Homeward Bound

Land-locked, two months now
(two months too long, without a breath
of blue-green air) I’m saltwater taffy dry,
and need to say goodbye to kith and kin,
to head back east for one last swim;
one final autumn day of perfect sun,
where thoughts are free to run
and come back tamed on ocean-driven wind.
I need to dig in warm, wet sand
for one last handful of summer breeze,
before the snows begin,
and sensibility rules my days, again.
