Masquerade

My head fills with words of pain and sorrow
But comes the dawn with hope of the morrow
And the private tortures haunting my dreams
Dissolve until all is not as it seems

These words in my head, as I start to write
Are supposed to be black, but turn out white
Instead of the angst, from being apart
I sing of the love that is in my heart

Maybe anxious poetry’s just not me
Perhaps that’s not what I want you to see
Nature and romance come more easily
Instead of the words I want to set free

So remember sometimes, these words will hide
Those caged ones that are burning deep inside ~

This is a beautiful sonnet, Nigel. I think it is wonderful that your dark words come out bright. Mine usually go from dark to light in progression, as I start to write about how I feel. It wasn't an easy decision to post my dark poems because I don't want everyone to think that is all I am about but it is part of what I am. What ever you write about is good because your are a talented writer with a big heart. Thank you for sharing. Love Robin
