Freedom It Is Not

If freedom costs so high a price in those
Who do not chose the path they take,
Then freedom it is not. And if one life
Is taken, destroyed by hands for freedom's sake,
Then freedom it is not. Why do these stars
And stripes eliminate the worth of life?

When holy words, with crystal beams,
From mouths that kiss the rings of kings,
Emerge and radiate over
The Mass of zealous heads of those
Who think themselves so high above,
Then freedom it is not. But what
Should we put forth to fight for rights
And pleasantries? Many
The wars and knocks loud
On the door of death
Resulted from the Lady Liberty's cries.
It seems that freedom lives only when love dies.

There are necessary wars when it is in defense of your nation. Vietnam, Desert Storm and Iraq are samples of the power hungry protecting the rich. I still believe we knew about 9-11 in July. We now know we knew about Pearl Harbor in October. We now have a complete government, three branches of liars and losers but we the apathetic bow our heads and accept it. We went from God Bless America to God Help America. Vince

Much to ponder in this poem. Yes, the cost of freedom is sometimes high. The questions give the reader pause for thought. Regarding the format of my poem "Liberation" and your question regarding it. It was written for a contest with the topic of fields--so I wanted to emphasize the first line in each stanza. I was fortunate to place first--a pleasant surprise. Thank you for asking about it. Keep on writing! Karen

I agree with your words. They are so bold and true. I also have a loved one who is fighting in this war.
