Just Listening

I'm only happy when I'm sad, she said.
When people say their glad,
I get mad because,
they used the word glad, she said, we laughed.
The things she said, I guess,
wouldn't seem important.
If you asked if she knew Shakespeare, she'd say,
when I was born he was already dead.
She liked autobiographies because, she said,
they were books about history,
written by people who were there.
She loved the new testament,
because of what a mess it is, she said,
how great it was that Jesus gave,
gave such a big storytelling gig,
to his four buddies who couldn't write a lick.
That Jesus must have been a piss,
to hang out with, she said.

Important or not,
I didn't want to miss a word,
whatever she said,
I never waited to talk, with her,
I was happy to be,
just listening.

The Grey In Between

The grey in between,
is where we will be,
we who choose to think,
we who choose to bleed.

We who choose to fight,
only to exist,
only to be unknown,
only to persist.

Only to evolve,
only to grow,
only to be in the now,
only to be in the know.

Yes we choose to bleed,
bleed in our denial,
we defend our own,
trial after trial.

Yes we choose to fight,
yes we choose to think,
yes we are a threat,
to all that you believe.

We aren't the colors of the rainbow,
we aren't the comfort that you need,
we are the shades of grey,
hiding in between.

Anonymous Hopes and Promises

I won't use your name,
because people like us,
like to sometimes,
remain anonymous.
I hope you make it till Friday,
I hope you find a place,
theres so much I could say,
how about just a couple promises,
from junkie to junkie.
I promise after Thursday ends,
Friday will begin.
I promise that you are,
definitely worth it.

I hope you make it till Friday,
I hope you find a place.
But what I hope for most for you,
I hope, for hope, for you.

I hope you do.
I really hope you do.

And So On, and So On

And so it goes,
I find myself,
alone, alone,
on a dusty shelf.

I am filled with words,
and pages unturned,
stories untold,
and no lessons learned.

My will is weak,
my mind is lost,
my insides black,
I pay the cost.

This life I've led,
has crossed the line,
I've sinned and bled,
ignored the signs.

And so I know,
I will not rise,
my never ending restlessness,
my welcoming demise.

From the bottom,
I'm looking up,
there is no light,
I gave it up.

Forever young,
my soul is old,
my body ash,
my story told.

The Pale and the Glow

Darkness is my time,
I dance the starry sky,
I look to inspire,
the what ifs and the whys.
Before the sun will rise,
and the light gets in your eyes,
I will be the shades of grey,
the truth behind the lie.
The coolest of the cool,
the dampest of the damp,
the everything in your dreams,
is everything i am.
I am the pale,
I am the glow,
time and time again I am,
half the world you know.

When In Doubt

My crooked smile,
my honest blue eyes,
will turn an inch to a mile,
while bleeding you dry.

I can be what you want,
I can be what you need,
I can put on a front,
I can make you believe.

The sharpest of minds,
the darkest of souls,
the solace you find,
the innocence I stole.

My heart made of stone,
my skin made of leather,
my will is my own,
and it will be forever.

The what you know,
is the when in doubt,
and the where to go,
is the when you find out.

My will is forever,
and ever all alone,
forever and ever,
forever my own.

A Date With the Night

Don't mind my disguise,
just look in my eyes,
let the air fill your lungs,
one plus one equals one,
your blood runs cold,
while the heat will scold,
like a volcano,
your fever spikes,
your temperature just right,
for a date with a night.

A little moon,
a little sin,
a little life,
ends and begins.

Incomplete

Don't ask me please,
because please I can't do.
My rubber backbone,
will only cheat you.

I'm a lonely disease,
I'm the cold in the breeze,
I'm on my knees,
my hands are tied,
and I've tried.
I've tried, I tried, I tried, I tried.
I've tired out,
I've died out,
incomplete.

Don't give me a headache,
it will last all week.
My bleeding feet,
need to hit the street.

The Disease of Humanity, Reprise

Simple to fall apart,
the dry broken skin.

The sunken eyes will tell you lies,
you can't hide that kind of fire,
once its blazing, its blazing.

Madness, sadness,
manic panic,
pressure, pulsing, pounding, pain,
you can only pray for rain.
If your lucky you'll go numb,
before your face turns to dust.
Hope your legs move,
when your head decides to run.

Disease received,
in the air that breathes,
the life into the lungs of humanity.

When the sunlight burns your eyes,

at least you know that your alive .

Being Short

In short,
I see myself,
walking with you,
in dark warmth.

By dark,
I mean black,
pitch black.
By warmth,
I mean a very comfortable warmth,
like the kind you find in a long and solid embrace.

In short,
this is where,
I always want to be.
Walking with a companion,
warm and feeling no pain.
