The Birdie

That birdie was singing a beautiful song
I pretended it was for me
The notes played like a musical flute
Its melody a symphony

I looked around that little bird
Sitting in an evergreen tree
What could make it sing like that?
Was it really singing for me?

Manna fell from heaven
As breadcrumbs found their way
And the birdie sang even louder
It had something it wanted to say

To live in the moment
And appreciate this gift
I look at the birdie
And my soul it does lift

For even heaven knows the birdie
Its every need and care
It worries not for tomorrow
It appreciates the breeze - the air

I want to be the birdie
Singing a beautiful song
Let me remember this moment
May it live ever long

Delicious

You stared me down
I couldn't look away
Soul connection
Sweetest confection
Melt my heart

I hear your voice
Drives me insane
Floating in the air
Remembering that day
Sea of Purple Haze

My heart simmers for you
Ancient soulmate recipe
Thoughts of you
Conjuring such deliciousness
Of how you taste

My hunger for you
Can't be satisfied
This desire's been coming on
Take me - to your table
Taste my lips

We can't outrun this
Tidal waves of lust taking over
I surrender to your raging current
Drowning and gasping
On delicious kisses

Mountains, Pebbles and Sand

Isolation from familiarity
Leaves me alone with my thoughts
Leading to insanity
My exterior facade of calm

Illusions of stability and repetition of life
Fear sneaks upon me
I stub my toe walking
This seemingly clear path

In this landscape
I see mountains
Imagine the summit's view
This trail requires faith -- not shoes

I choose to take off my sandals
Better to feel pebbles between my toes
Than to wonder about sensations
This adventure of life

Next time I stroll upon fine sand
I will remember the pebbles
Gratitude fills my heart
Familiarity blankets my being

Our Place

There is a place
We've been there before
Atop a barren rock
Overlooking a canyon
Where subtleties of life
Exist

There is a place
Where time stands still
Next to Oak Creek
Music of water splashing
Amidst life-like stones
Alive

There is a place
Quietly our eyes meet
Hands entwined
Together we find our way
In Love

Coffee From a Jar

Hey remember baby
When we were so poor
We drank our coffee from a jar
My baby we've come so far
The miles prove it in the car
And none of it means anything
To anyone but us 2

Hey remember baby
How we crossed the desert
Carving memories in canyonlands
How we climbed the Rockies holding hands
Your hat still shaded with red desert sands
And none of it means anything
To anyone but us 2

So back to the coffee My Love
My favorite part of the day
I get that flashback of us in the car
Sharing coffee from a jar
That's still in our cupboard by the way!
And none of it means anything
To anyone but us 2

Gasping For Care

I woke up this morning
A stormy pattern of thoughts
My pillow wet from tears
Feelings of isolation
Lack of love
Family desertion
I woke up this morning
Alone with my thoughts
Leaning over as I walked
Hunchback across the room
From my heavy heart

I reached out and asked
Why do you ignore me
Am I unworthy of your love
You enjoy the power play of separation
Do you not see my torment
From the isolation
My penance for speaking truth
A truth you wish to ignore
Let’s put our collective heads in the sand
The grains of pain will blow away if we do

And when I fell down
Slipping on my tears
My fear of rejection came true
With the simple question
What happened to you
With words of truth
You think I’m self indulgent and irrelevant
So I bury everything inside
Waiting for it to reappear
Another time when I’m stronger
Maybe I can handle your rejection

When I screamed to you
I need you
The deafness was shrill
Your collective heads in the sand again
It’s easier to ignore an ugly memory
Than to look fear in the face
You needed me in ancient times
When no one else could help
And yet when I reached out
You ignored me

All those years of pain
Come around again
I’m the easy target to place the blame
The old man is gone now
My ultimate fear of facing him down
In his time of dire need
From this distance I cared
While you chose to ignore him
And he died a slow death
And when he passed
You cut me out
And watched me bleed
Isolation is my penance
For loving the best I could

Years from now
If the circumstances are right
You might look back on this
And wonder what happened to the girl
Full of promise
Full of love
Full of expectations
The rubbish only remains
There’s no one else to blame
But myself for my weakness
For allowing your permeation of vengeance
Isolation is the name of the game

I don’t dare reach out
They will engrave upon me
Their version of their memory
While watching me
Falling into the crevice of deep sadness
Bleeding to death
The pain in my heart
And they don’t care
And I’m not allowed to share
So I’m left alone with my thoughts
Waking up to tears on my pillow
Drowning a slow death
Gasping for care

Into Many Lifetimes

In this lifetime the bond is blood
But these wounds go back eons
We hurt at something seemingly small
But the game of pain
Has a Great Fall of Fame
Into many lifetimes

Whether we choose to see what is
Our reality is this moment
Or taste disastrous recipes of loathing
The gift of the present is to forgive
As He forgave us
Into many lifetimes

If your promise was to show me pain
I felt the deep pangs of that sadness
And accept what is
Let’s leave judgment at the doormat
Love requires integrity
Into many lifetimes

I choose forgiveness
For no person is innocent
Like water under the bridge
But when I stare at the water
It doesn’t seem to move
Into many lifetimes

To truly forgive is to allow Being
Release brings evaporation of rooted ego
Forgiveness is the only way
The Truth and the Life
Created with cobblestones of love
Into many lifetimes

I forgive myself for my shortcomings
I release my fears and disappointments
This lopsided backpack of pain is too heavy
I forgot I could put it down!
As I walk the next path
Into many lifetimes

For My Father

Snowflakes fell on city streets
Silent descent from the sky
A soul's new journey to the earth
Sounds of a newborn's cries

Angels gathered in heaven
As the soul made its way
Their tears from separation
The joy in a mother's pain

The sunrise shown with graceful intent
And snowflakes melt away
A first gaze in his daughter's eyes
The father silently cries

Waves of time crashed the beach
Riptides of love and pain
Perfection of life's complexities
Drown melodies of lullabies

Waters recede, life goes on
Revealing our path of stepping stones
Letting go of pain, we lighten our load
Let's walk together again

I love you, Father
You see -- The sun's up again
Holding onto love, we have hope and faith
For I am your daughter

The Art of Faith

Fields of flowers
Fragrance so sweet
Springs life eternal
Bouquet of dreams

Children's laughter
Purest of joy
Life so precious
We are reborn

Life is the canvass
Your soul the paint
Colors so vivid
The Art of Faith

Rays of Light
The Angels above
Bring miracles - blessings
Renewal of life

Promise of love
Heaven's holy light
Bring comfort to you
Peace in your heart
