Rooster's Call

What can I say other than that I’m bound, bound by the rooster’s call. A clarion call of divine arrangement, calling me to duty and so with my water gourd well balanced on my head, I make my way to the river. The leaves dripping water from dew of the night before, annoying flies perching on my nostrils as if they are caves to seek warmth. Happy faces, happy voices, happy people going to and fro with their water gourds well balanced on their heads sharing dreams of night before and plans of the ahead.
My water gourd clutched to my ribs protecting them from morning cold. I look around to see the best spot to fetch from as gourds clutter and water swishing and splashing, mud everywhere. The trees bowing in obeisance to the river which keeps pulling away with royal dignity, not to be touched by the green leaves. Oh proud crystal river! The trees bearing green leaves adorned with yellow, burgundy and purple flowers only want to show gratitude for your support!

There it was
Looking at me
My favourite spot

Arms

Charity
                 Ideal, commendable
        Relying, supporting, promoting
    Orphans, destitutes, needy, helpless
        Rejoicing, laughing, shopping
               Settled, satisfied
                       Hopes

Pieta

Sitting on the floor with a bundle
in her hands, cannot let go.
Experienced before in a cradle
but then with joy and glow

With an aching heart she holds
on to him, praying an eye will
open for one last look, she prays,
in her heart it will be a thrill

The sorrow felt in her heart
cannot so easily be calmed.
Gazing at His face so sweet
But now sleeping and cold

With caution she mourns, there will be gain
of the promise that they will meet again

Painting’s title: PIETA
The sorrow felt by the Virgin Mary at the death of her son Jesus

Despair of a Child

Her eyes blinking hate
Or more like a bait
Inferno in her breath
Like Hades without a depth
So hard she tried to keep herself from bursting

Ten fingers clenched into a fist
Hard as an iron and ready to twist
Feet stomping like a rattle
And mind disposed to battle
“It is all your fault
So detached and you have no heart”

“I am sorry” in a most innocent voice
Said the child in who is no vice
“I did not know there would be a fire”
All I ever wanted is to satisfy a desire
Of having my parents back in my life
All I ever wanted is an end to the strife

Hello Hello

Hi, my name is Kechi.
Since I joined Poetry Soup
I’ve had new hopes in writing
and I’ve been having so much fun.
You are so wonderful
and warm in disposition.
Hey, how has it been writing
poems and seeing how they’re
viewed and commented on?
I’d love us to make the
world a better place
through poetry.
What do you think?

Confession of Guilt

Like the season I go to come again
The journey I go is not without guilt
Of things I do sometimes
The words in my mouth are heavy
The way to speak I know not how
My heart condemns and my feelings sentenced
The way to express I know not how

Like a bush of July flowers
That cannot but steal one’s heart
So the belles come flaunting
And my heart is locked with theirs
Even as a passing emotion
Then comes insurmountable guilt
With an air of authority ready to condemn

For one so bound in love as you
For one so fair on the inside and out
For one so encompassing as an oak tree
What more want I?
What more wants any endowed with you?
When I return I will be bound to you
And together live all the seasons as come

Majesty

You are beautiful
and nothing stands
near in comparison.
Your ears are always
opened to hear
and your arms
opened to embrace.
You are sincere
and a bearer
of burden.
You are wisdom
and very tolerant.
You are forgiving
and a ready guide.
All things were
made by you
and without you
nothing was made
that was made.
You reign in glory!

False Alarm

Heart pounding so fast
Upon the approaching steps
and then it was for nothing

Graceful Ageing

Way back I thought it was a drag,
suddenly it came to be my fate
then I realized what a joy
it is to be grayed.
And so peace came
in to settle,
taking its
place in
me.
How proudly I carry my gray hair
seeing how dignified I am now.
A wise fellow I have in
my later life become.
An embodiment of
wisdom I am
called by
those in
need.

August 3rd

It was on the third of August
Late in the evening, moon so
high
No other moonlit night will be a
waste
I promised, packing my gear
with a sigh

Trotting along, the moon leads
the way.
In an open space, I set my net
and gear
The grasses dazzling as the
branches sway
Gazing at the stars, a song to
hear

The night so temperate and so
beautiful
Sending me to slumber with its
lullaby
Dazzled by the beauty, my heart
joyful
Intended to watch but now I
stray

As my promise again I could not
fulfill,
I know your decoy will always
be a thrill
