The Farmer and His Corn

The Farmer and his Corn

Snug and warm beneath the earth
The field awaits the coming birth
It holds the richness that they need
Provides the anchor for the seed

The farmer by his hand did sow
Soon he knows his seed will grow
When length of day and rain is right
And sun above shines warm and bright

The rain has come the soil is moist
New life burst forth, it has no choice
With a sudden wondrous surge
A field of green does emerge

The farmer feels it in the air
He comes to see his field so fair
Quietly, just after dawn
His brand new field of corn is born

Quickly grow those humble shoots
Drawing goodness through their roots
All hot and hazy summer long
The shoots thrust upward, straight and strong

Golden now as flaxen hair
New seeds upon them they do bear
The farmer picks an ear to eat
To check then that, his corn is sweet

The farmer comes to field one morn
Another with him that day drawn
No face had he and yet was grim
The corn all knew that it was him

A shrouded hood, his face to hide
He follows just two steps behind
The mice whose nests the stalks had borne
Know soon there will be no more corn

Not daring now to take a peep
They know for them they’ve come to reap
Both the men they carried scythes
They know they’ve come to end their lives

The farmer lifts the implement
To cut them down is his intent
A shadow fell, with mighty stroke
The farmers gone, with man in cloak.

Hurricane Eileen - the Storm

A dedication to Eileen Ghali
for her prolific production of
inspiring work

Willow Tree = Keyboard
And that’s your only clue

Hurricane Eileen - The Storm

As darkness drew nearer
Light falling to drearer
I knew, the night was a foul
The windows were slashed
By her white lightening blast
Down the chimney old windy did howl

By her orchestrates
He rattles the grates
Appears round each gap in the door
Then in comes her rain
Through cracked window pain
As I witness her latest downpour

How the storm fascinates
With the show she creates
And I sit here and watch her for free
Down on the plain
Taking the strain
She batters the gnarled willow tree

Great thunder clouds form
In the head of the storm
And magic arrives in her sky
Come rivers of rain
With nowhere to drain
The water, a flood, rises high

Then happens a lull
To recharge to the full
Takes time out to contemplate
To be cruel or be kind
She rampages her mind
And comes back, at double the rate

With a boom and a crack
Bursts silver from black
A crescendo of noise fills the ear
And the gnarled willow tree
Writhes in ecstasy
By the pulse of her wild atmosphere

Mixed shadows are cast
By her white lightening blast
Her soul, for a while, exposed
For a moment in time
All is in rhyme
Till her story she chooses to close

As her elements soar
They’re at large with a roar
For hours they’ll dance and they’ll play
Blows the hurricane
Driving her reign
Till had, fulfilment of stay

With her forces unleashed
Her passions released
The storm passes over to light
Once more she has shown
By the tantrum she’s sown
Her strength… her power… her MIGHT.

Ghost Guitar

Ghost Guitar

I think of you and play you, any time of day
You understand my needs, understand what I must say
You’ve always been so close to me, been a cherished friend
You’ve always been there for me, and will be till the end

You know my moods so very well, you know when I am blue
You pluck a tune from out the air and make me play with you
Then we will strum a rock song or a golden oldie tune
Then I know it won’t be long, till I’m lifted out of gloom

Ghost guitar in my hands

I know that people laugh, when they see me tug your strings
But they don’t know the happiness that our duetting brings
You take me off to places where the memory lays sublime
We travel through the years, back and forth in time

And when my baby’s far away and I’m left all alone
It’s you I cradle in my arms and know my songs are blown
By the winds of love, across the earth, the mighty sea
Knowing she will hear them, and hurry home to me

Ghost guitar in my hands
Ghost
                    guitar
                                              in
                                                                 my hands
                                                                                  da da da

What Annoys Me

What Annoys Me.

The Wedding of Rubbish and Nonsense.

Dearest readers; Please stand, for the big day has arrived
The knot be tied, the vows be said, the promises contrived
Master of Ceremonies me, so first I’ll read the list
Of honoured guests as they arrive and each one falsely kissed

The banquet hall is decked, to dazzle and amaze
Bright silver, all the glitz, no doubt in hope of praise
Rubbish waits in patience, the collective to appear
Sweet Nonsense has excuses, if they fail, a ready tear

Along comes Decency, who sways this way and that
With Truth, who wears first one, and then another hat
Trotting by their side, their eldest son Deceit
A wilful little sod, a torture to defeat

Ah, Mr Racist Bigot: Will his head fit through the door?
He thinks in black and white, a tinge of yellow nothing more
Along with wife Supremacy, they both deaf, dumb and blind
For in their hearts there is no room, for any other kind

Enter Gold, with pockets bulging, watch him saunter in
With lady friend upon his arm, covered in his bling
Closely followed by, all who fall within his creed
Miss Digger, Mr Want-it All, Mr and Mrs Greed

In dodders dear old Justice, half asleep and slow to stir
He does his best to read between the lines that humans blur
He sits in judgement of the bad, but come let’s be precise
Too often does the gavel fall, for those who pay his price

In come the politicians slyly fighting for first place
Who look you in the eye, then lie straight at your face
Drunk with power, untouchable, sound bites, speeches, buzz
He’ll do this; she’ll do that, gets in, then never does

So if you ask me what annoys, expect an icy blast
Just a few are above, o’er which your eye has cast
Before I go we’ll look at those, who did not make the list
While all the selfish bas**rds there make merry and get pi**ed

Lurking close is Poverty with millions in his grip
Those displaced by war, out on a Nowhere Trip
The old, the sick, future faced with solemn Resignation
Another life consumed in the belly of Starvation

Still Rubbish marries Nonsense as they have from the start
With promises and vows, tied to a knotted heart
And so the celebrations, with back slaps they conclude
When everybody waves their arms and sing, ‘Hey Jude’.

In the Catholic Church, Jude, the patron saint of lost causes.

Across the Universe

Across the universe

Has there ever been a band,
That so many understand
Life changing music, made and played,
By courtesy, of their hand

Imagination limitless,
Creations lit the spark in us
Visions of a better time, unreal sublime,
Took away, the dark in us

Those were the heady days,
Absorbing us in many ways
Seducing ears, eyes filled with tears,
With how their songs amaze

Now I recall how sad we were,
At the setting of the sun
But all good things, must come to end,
When all is said and sung

I would wrap up all those lines,
That tingle jingle at the nerves
And send them in a rocket ship,
To burst, across the universe

Nothings gonna change their world
Nothings gonna change their words
Nothings gonna change their world
As they fly across the universe

Woman

Woman

The stars bestowed your eyes
The moon, your cherry red lips
The sun, that light in your mind
Heaven, those gold finger tips

The oceans surrendered your hair
Your form, fashioned by tides
Rivers tempered the spirit
Where patience and love resides

Strength, came from the mountains
The wind, sweet lullabies
Volcano’s forged the Passion
That lives in soul filled eyes

But where, oh where is completion
Makes the pulse race and dart
For this, woman must wait
Till a man, gives her his heart.

What Where Who

What, Where, Who

If I where asked the what, where, who
That drives me to write poetry
I’d say that if I only knew
I’d leave right now this misery

But I’m afraid I’m not the sort
To answer in straight fashion
I have to offer my retort
With words of heartfelt passion

For just the other day I found
Encounter gave me food for thought
Soon the words they were outbound
Jumbled as they rushed and fought

Though ne’er the less inspired me
To battle on my way
Look toward the end and see
Which words I could display

Confess do I quite openly
That I am ignorant
Of poetry’s technology
Coz grasp it I just can’t

I wouldn’t know a what’s it called
From a what’s its name
In my mind won’t stay installed
Confusion is its game

But I somehow, find I can
Muddle through at best
Organise a crafty plan
And set my brain the test

For out there I see loneliness
Suffering and pain
A world in turmoil and distress
That cannot stake its claim

I look for every trait in man
Into the soul I stare
At his betrayal and flim-flam
Also the ladies fair

Dear love will always be there
And so will Demon war
And my thoughts on these I’ll share
Of that you can be sure

Laughter I would hope to bring
Sadness sometimes to the fore
Of natures forces I will sing
The list goes on galore

Yes I will write throughout the night
With hope to de-confuse
I’ll try to offer some insight
By giving up my muse

So now you know the what and where
But what about the who
Inspiring people are out there
Who knows - it could - be you

And what about that misery
I spoke of up above
Well, I gave that up for music
Of the poetrysoupers love x

The Muffin and the Cupcake

The Muffin and the Cupcake

Little miss muffin was resting one day
When a cute little cupcake came looking her way
The gaze he held, was saying one thing
I'm coming over to pull apron string

She blushed an blustered and turned all coy
But couldn’t resist the touch of the boy
Was this the mix she had waited for
Since she had sprung from the old oven door

He ambled over, his eye on her crest
He touched her side to physically test
He needed to see she was not a mirage
For he was battered by beauties barrage

He felt the warmth that swelled from her heart
And swore that day that they’d never part
He said, “My darling, with me will you run
I’ll take you a ride and we will have fun

For you are my muffin and I’m your cupcake
And nothing will sunder the bond that we make”
She took, his word, their lips came to meet
Was there ever before, kisses tasting so sweet

The last I heard, they had run away
And merrily danced in their love so they say
So muffin or cupcake, next time you eat
You may have destroyed, but their love not defeat.

Uss Linda

The Seven Seas of Rhye
A mythical destination for all those that do wrong.

This write sang to the tune of
When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again, Hurrah, Hurrah

             USS Linda

She sails the high seas of the soup
HURRAH, HURRAH
Searching for a poetry scoop
O YEAH, O YEAH
Her eyes are keen, for she has been
A long time here, a poetry queen
She sails the, HIGH SEAS, of this poetry soup

The sailors standing on their decks
OUR DECKS, OUR DECKS
With kind words she will save our wrecks
HA HA, OUR WRECKS,
The dented bows, she will raise
With an irony, of praise
Then she’ll cast off, WISE ASS, continue on her treks

She sails along, she shows no fear
NO FEAR, I FEAR
Through stormy waters she will steer
WILL STEER, WILL STEER
She needs no man, with guiding hand
She lets you know, to understand
She makes it, QUITE CLEAR, she needs no buck-in-here

You’ll notice that she sports an A
A NAY, A NAY
Lets hope that B, she stays away
A WAY, A WAY
Cause I don’t know, about you
But I could never, handle two
If she ever, TURNS UP, it’s on your knees and pray

She steams through waters very deep
SO DEEP, SO DEEP
She’ll write you verses, make you weep
YOU WEEP, YOU WEEP
Then she’ll traverse, with laughter verse
Her every word, you will rehearse
And her smoke and, MIRRORS, into your faves you keep

Upon her stern, though don’t ask why
ASK WHY, ASK WHY
Poet Destroyer, six foot high
SIX HIGH, SIX HIGH
Upon the waves, you find you toss
But this one, you must never cross
Or she’ll send you, TO THE, Seven Seas of Rhye
~~~~~~  ~~~~~~~~~   ~~~~~~~~   ~~~~~~~  ~~~~~
~~   ~~~~~~     ~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~~~~
She might send me, ~~~o~   o ~~~~   o  ~~ o ~~~~
     ~ ~~ ~~~ ~ o ~~   TO THE,    ~~~~o ~~~    ~~~~
  ~~~   ~~~ o ~~~~  ~~~ ~~~~  Seven Seas of Rhye.
~ ~~ ~~~ ~ ~~~ o ~~ ~~~~ ~~ ~~~~ ~~~ ~~~~
                                 Hahahahahahaha
                                        Blurbble glurgle

            The Seven Seas of Rhye

Fear me you lords and lady preachers
I descend upon your earth from the skies
I command your very souls you unbelievers
Bring before me what is mine

Can you hear me you peers and privy councillors
I stand before you naked to the eyes
I will destroy any man who dares abuse my trust
I swear that you'll be mine

Sister I live and lie for you
Mister do or else die
You are mine I possess you
I belong to you forever

Storm the master marathon I'll fly through
By flash and thunder fire I'll survive
Then I'll defy the laws of nature
And come out alive
Then I'll get you

Begone with you short and shady senators
Give out the good, leave out the bad evil cries
I challenge the mighty titan and his troubadours
And with a smile
I'll take you to the seven seas of Rhye

Seven Seas of Rhye

Licia, a Mysterious Mind

Licia, A Mysterious Mind

A mysterious mind
You often do find
Is cluttered with all kinds of clowns
In your ear they speak
Quite often with cheek
And tell of your ups and your downs

Driving you mad
By being so bad
But without them, where would you be?
Those voices you hear
Are your friends my dear
Though controlling them can be deadly

Wishing to tell
How they give you hell
The run around with their demands
Every now and then
They rule your pen
Just to prove you obey their commands

It isn’t as though
They say hello
They just barge in, take over the roost
Where they get their prose
Only heaven knows
But the soup gets its comedic boost

Bawdy they be
Extremely naughty
Yet they have the knack with the crowd
With their crazy antics
Mind bending tricks
The reader’s soon laughing out loud

So please let them stay
Don’t chase them away
For the loss will not only be yours
Live and let live
So sister forgive
Those voices that this world adores

Book: Reflection on the Important Things
