The Spirit of Humanity

Lift me up
As I rise on shaky knees

Give me strength
To rise from this bottom of rocks
Willed in my determination
To climb back to this mountain top

Call me a Climber, ambitious
An Expeditionist

A Pilgrim on uncharted land
A Soldier on these battled bends
An Activist when I take a stand
Peaceful, but with determination

A Bird, I’ll go out on a limb
Holding tight against the wind
A Leader, I won’t hop the wagon with the crowd
Not back then, and still not now

A Dream of many faces, of many phases
Something courageous
Even in valleys we rise like nothing can break us
Even through opposition we rise together in greatness

Even when we stumble in our focused cause
We still hurdle boundaries and break down walls
In millions, we still pause
When a handful die by some madman's cause

There’s still something decent within us all

When we answer the cry of our fallen brother
Rebuild, pray, and aid in their recover
Because we are not one without the other

Reflections

(excerpt from a song I wrote a long time ago)

A loneliness remains inside my soul
Where your spirit flows nobody knows
Fantasies and illusions ease the pain
But nothing in this lifetime will stop the rain

Pictures of your smile reel through my mind
But sometimes it seems your face is hard to find
The details of an angel are slowly fading away
But the echoes of your voice will always serenade
In my heart, in my soul,

Is this moment surreal or was it the life when you were here?
Promise I’ll never forget; I’ll always keep you near.
A new journey with different paths, so many miles of a different sky
Leaves me wondering, without you, who am I?

The One Who Got Away

Stillness, Strong
A dark ocean of thought
Too deep to swim
But still I ponder at
The ripples of my reflection
Trying to see what he sees
View the world through his eyes
View me through his heart
But I can’t unmask the disguise
I can’t uncover the volume
Of thought that he hides
Hand out saying “Come on.
Let’s take this grand life for a ride.”
But he hesitates to reach
And just before he does
He leans back on his feet
And turns away from me
To his obligations
Heartbroken, I smile
And wait in hesitation
Before I drop my hand
To my side, empty
Empty as my heart
Hide the tears inside
Smile and depart

Sleepless Wonder

Inquisitive minds
Of any kind

             ....Loom...

In dark rooms
Until they bloom

Into bright places
Flourishing in light spaces

Upon UN-crowded happiness
Far too few find it …. Unless….

They leave the herd they travel with

And leave to the past old time
And the future that at present does not exist

The illusions that create the current emptiness

Only then can rigid thoughts bend
Like color bows
To a hidden pot of gold
                                             …Or buried gem

                                                          Discover… INgenious
                                                          Discover… YOUr best

It’s different for each
It’s not the fad of Everyday Street

As much as we are one
We are merely a piece
                               …unique

Inquisitive mind listen to an inner greatness speak
It’s not outside of you

It’s below your crown
And above your sole

Stop wandering
               Stop wondering

Search your soul

Growing and Passing Through

Life...

It goes on

but a piece of me

never quite moves on.

So if I exhibit immaturity

It's bc I'm still rolling on

Advice from the young (r.i.p.)

That you gave to me

To motivate me to be strong

And even though I've grown

                        .....into my own wisdom

Sometimes I revert back

To your greenisms (youthful philosophy)

So no ones to say

'Cause only God knows

Who we'd each be today

.....If you weren't on that road.

I would be different...

That's not a thought

                .....I too often face

But change, it's like

A ripple from the shore

                 ......that shakes the whole lake

God doesn't make mistakes

we're exactly where we're meant to be

But I still can't help but wonder

If things would have went differently......

I'm just writing out

My inner curiosities

                 ......No need to judge me

If I'm aloof and distant

Defiant and resistant

It's b/c I'm fighting and persistent

I'm all in with both fist in

Chasing dreams and running from demons

Sometimes the boundaries are seamless

Sometimes I land the blow

Sometimes I feel the sting

where life's swing is

But I march on like King did

Keep sight on what the dream is

He said follow my heart

To find happiness

                ....Even if it's not his

Sometimes I feel like

....he's the only one who knows me

He sees my greatness

And beautifies the ugly

He's seen it all

And he still loves me....

so if I'm wiser

Than what I should be

I'm lifted on the shoulders

              .....of his maturity

Salvation In Spring

Sunshine on my skin
Warmth inside my soul
Leaves brushing in the wind
On this long and winding road

Rapids unbridled in the creek
Running wildly with the road
It's not a race of speed
But how far that we can go

Like squirrels chasing up a tree
Or dragonflies dancing in the wind
The creek and road twist
Upon each other every bend

How far can we go?
This yet I do not know
For I stopped in awe of its beauty
And stood there on the blacktop bow

I skipped out of my shoes
And rolled up the cuffs of my jeans
Wading in the creek
Ice cold water swarmed about my knees

The March wind tangled with my hair
Strands jumping like the leaves
Had me laughing like a child
My soul buzzing like a bee

Bloomed wisdom like Spring flowers
For there I did discover
An answer to a question
On that day I did uncover

I was searching for religion
But instead I found my faith
It was there I laughed with my Father
When my Mother called her child to play

Transition

When the summer walks away into the fall Holding hands with our childish ambitions; Our time Not looking back at all I will place the memories in my back pocket So they are not too far behind But I will look forward Knowing I'm on borrowed time

Fireflies

In the rust silhouette of the sunlight
Simmering behind the horizon line
I find love in your kiss
I find love in your touch

An evening walk beneath the summer purple skies
Or waking in the morning yawn of a pink sunrise
I find love in your kiss
I find love in your touch

Your love lights up my life
Like fireflies

In the mid-day summer scald
Vanilla scent melting beneath a light camisole
I find love in your kiss
I find love in your touch

In the midnight glow where intimacy unfolds
In warm resolve only our souls know
I find love in your kiss
I find love in your touch

Your love lights up my life
Like fireflies
