Look Farther

They always tell me "stop seeing what isn't there"
I say, look harder... past the appearance... through to the bare
They look at me confused, stuck like a deer in a glare
Seemingly refusing to adjust their stare
Still dumbfounded they ask "where?"
I say, past the acrylic nails, color contacts, and extensions of hair
Past the skimpy dressed body shaped like a pear
Past the facade of "I don't care"
Into the soul that's experienced a couple of tears
Into a life that's had to walk through the devil's lair
Without judgement, to see a human being, to you I dare

The One

You are an amazing shining star
Your dedication and dreaming will carry you far
What is it about you? You don't know why?
It's how the sun reflects and twinkles in your chestnut eyes
It's how your lips slightly curl when you flash a cunning grin
It's how you radiate energy and are built to win
It's in the robust and brawniness of your voice
It's how you trudge through the darkness still making the right choice
It's in the aptness of your mind
Further proving you are one of a kind
Fascinating, dexterous, attractive, and adept
You stole my breath and off my feet I was swept
Against you, competition there is certainly none
In a class by yourself, you are certainly the one.

The Night

Nightmares and sleepless nights
Internal spiritual fights
Everything comes alive at night
Daytime visions just don't seem right
Ghosts haunting black knights
Glimmer and shine make it seem contrite
Moses escaping Pharaoh's palace in the night
To find God, cause ain't no church in the wild alright
Coldest is the darkest night
Enlightening is the bush burning bright
Escaping demons giving chase in the night
Is there no end to this in sight?
Putting full armor on black knights
Artistically soaring colorful kites
Escaping but contributing back to the night
Tryna keep the bond of peace tight
Perseverance comes from the night

My Heart's Song

Do you wanna hear my hear my heart's song?
The rhythmic beat of a bittersweet song
The sound thriving so strong
Do you wanna hear my heart's song?
How hard it flutters to carry on
A low hum it as it goes along
Do you wanna hear my heart's song?
A melancholy ballad when it's done wrong
There are various sounds to my heart's song
Do you wanna hear my heart's song?
That low palpitating beating so long
A soulful melody plays on and on
Do you wanna hear my heart's song?
How very tender, but yet so strong
Beating in love until the beating is gone
