I Fought Old Age

I fought old age with anger
I fought old age with fear
I fought old age with denial
But still old age is here

I fought old age with pills
With decoctions and with wine
I fought old age with prayers and anger
But still old age is mine

The body is slowly wearing
The mind it slips at times
The heart is slowly fading
But for now I am just fine
For everyday I am thankful
for a life that is full and bright
I enjoy each day of living
And no longer need to fight.

I Would Like To Rest Before I Die

I'd like to rest before I die
before my final trip
In the warm ocean waves, my feet I'd like to dip
walking on sandy beaches, hand in hand with my soul mate
I'd like a final holiday, before I reach the Heaven's gates.
I'd like to see New York
a lifelong dream it's been
or have a chance to stay, at a fine old British Inn
I'd like to touch the shores of Ireland
Then land of heart and kin
Then when I went home
I'd say what a trip it's been.
I'd like to go to France, rent a studio and drink wine
spend a week or two at the cafe's , now wouldn't that be fine
see all the galleries and take in all the sights
walking benath the Eiffel Tower with my love at night.
I'd like to see the Vatican, the galleries and museums
I'd like to go to Venice and see all the great scenes
I'd like to go to China and shop in the side streets
And spend some time just watching , all the people I would meet
I'd like to ride the railway and travel coast to coast
I'd like to see Canada, the country I love most
We'd dine on the fine China , while the country would fly by
and in the travel car, you can see the open sky

if I should never get to do this
don't be sad for me at all
who knows for sure the hour ro day
That God will come to call
for I've seen so much and had my time, upon this planet earth
I've been loved and have loved , before I rest beneath the dirt
I'ts more than some have had, I've been blessed I always say
And though I hope to always dream
I've had quite a fine stay.

Wide Angle Views

wide angle skies filling the windows with mosaics
moving, ever chnaging; light, dark, blue gray, yellow
signs inviting curiosity
Eyebrow, Elbow, Keller, wherever
Houses falling apart, their eyes plucked out from years of neglect,
beside new homes standing like beacons
announcing a prosperous future
The old the new shall not abide together.
Coffee rows, rows of cars at a standstill
waiting for the gossip to end
and around another bend
another invitation to see
how the other half lives

Time

when we want time to walk
it runs
when we want it to run
it walks
time is a minute
at a time
no rhyme or reason
holds its sway
but when all is said and done
there is still only 24 hours
in a day.

Loneliness

When I call into the night
Calling out your name
And the depth of silence
Answers my pain.

then I have met loneliness

When I reach out a hand
To find stability and balance
And I find just empty space
Then it is loneliness I face

When in the looking glass of life
There is only one face I see
I know that truly lonely soul
is me.

How Much Like Sheep

how much like sheep we are

how much like sheep we are today
how easily we are led astray
we seek out gossip like cool green grass
then we become not sheep but ass
as asses we do bray
more lies and slander upon our way
until the clamour falls loudly upon our ears
causing so much heartbreak.and many tears.

we should instead be like birds of love
cooing gently like the dove
or keeping busy like the bee
or like the deer living quietly

No Happiness

Happiness eludes us even at close range
The heart and mind seem to wander freely into pain
Pushing away the love, barring the doors tight
Preferring to close the drapes
Keeping out the light.

Whom ever wanders through the corridors,
The maze of life and pain
Will not speak lightly of the souls death
the emptiness that remains
Those who know what it is
to accept happiness and breath
Will have known what it was to
have walked, the edge of death.

How the Tongues They Wag

The tongues they wag, with constant chatter
making such a noise, making such a clatter
spreading all their lies thinly , on their toast with tea
How I wish their tongues would stop, wagging about me.

So and so was seen it's true, I cannot tell a lie
Going somewhere late, with another guy
did you hear the latest about that Mr. Jones?
He's not going to the Coast, for he has lost his home.
Did you see that woman, the way she wears her dress?
what could she be thinking, I could never guess.
I heard the other day, the most dreadful thing you know,
He's so absolutely vile, that Mr. So and So.
How the tongues they do wag, with constant dark delight
Spreading all their hate, it just does not seem right,.
