My Looking Glass Self

I fear not the unknown
but what I cannot unleash and interpret
stifled emotions blur my vision
leaving my looking glass self – unclear

my insides are in disarray, like
shredded confetti propelling in the wind
scattered pieces lose their bearing
leaving my looking glass self - astray

bewilderment surrounds me now, while
revisiting an exhausted road
heavy footprints convey a story
leaving my looking glass self - questioning

life’s sophistication is a struggle, akin to a rubix cube
to succeed with no difficulty - cheat
moulding fate to the desired outcome
leaving my looking glass self - discreditable

I excavate buried courage, and
confront the image gazing back at me
suffering has been endured, however
the reflection stands upright and determined
despite life’s battle, survival has conquered
leaving my looking glass self – intact

Bullysoup

whopping bully
torments soupers fully
picks on others writes
although her writing bites

great big bully
eyes must be woolly
she attempts hurt
with words curt

“poetry is freedom of expression. Soupers should feel free to share their innermost thoughts without fear of being persecuted. Nobody likes a bully. If you do not have something nice or constructive to say, don’t say it”.

Everlasting Love

Devotion of a rare hue
Canopies dusk; fashions dawn
Ceaseless esteem journeys far
Triumphs without doubt

A Letter To Myself

I’m sorry for the nightmare I allowed to be your reality, and
I’m sorry I failed to illuminate a way out
I turned my back on you when you needed me most
I’m sorry I was a coward

I’m sorry for all the damaging words I said to you, but even more
I’m sorry I made you believe they were true
I took you for granted and battled with you every day
I’m sorry I did not think you were good enough to be treated better

I’m sorry for laying too much pressure on you; nobody is perfect, so
I’m sorry for making you believe you had to be
I did not trust you, respect you, listen to you, or appreciate you
I’m sorry I took you for granted

I’m sorry that I pitied you, and
I’m sorry I made you feel foolish and unimportant
I failed to treat you like the remarkable person you truly are
I’m sorry I made you feel you were alone

I’m sorry I did not love you
I’m sorry that I am apologizing to you; the
one person who will be with me always

HOWEVER

I am not sorry for a single tear I wept
each drop represents all that I have endured
I have learned much about life, relationships and most importantly – YOU
pain is temporary
for every burning tear that escapes, relief follows

I will be strong again
I will live again
I will love again
I will trust again

I will survive another day

The Truth Will Set You Free

You are scared to let go of the familiar;
the familiar has a feigned ignorance of making you feel safe and comfortable.
You dismiss the voice of reason,
because you are blinded by the sole thing that barricades you.

Be true to yourself:
“If you shut up truth and bury it under the ground,
it will but grow, and gather to itself such explosive power
that the day it bursts through, it will blow up everything in its way” (Emile Zola; 1840-1902)

You must find strength.
Surround yourself with what is positive.
Be strong.
Strength, truth and belief in yourself are the keys to unlocking
all that binds you.

You are a free spirit;
No person characterizes your being;
No person dictates how you think, act or speak;
No person controls your life;
No person except for yourself.

Charlie Brown

poor Charlie Brown
exposed as a clown
Lucy positions the football upright
Chuck Swings, and she yanks it from sight!

(not sure if this is a clerihew???)

Frog-Flirt

she winks with her right
and sounds her most tuneful croak
yet, he sits unmoved

she tries her fly skills
which should impress any frog
yet, he does not flinch

she gets impulsive
takes a leap onto his pad
yet, not even warts

she is all wound up
she hops away insulted
it is so his loss

Underwear Made For a Boy

If you sit tight, and promise not to spite
I will tell you a story, when I was not in my glory
grade one, a new chapter
who knew my teacher would be a captor?
that’s right! I said it!
a washroom run, she did not permit
there I stood
as still as I could
but I couldn’t help wiggle, then jiggle, and out popped a nervous giggle
first I got a casual stare
not two seconds later, a frightening glare
Oh no! I thought
a quick exit I sought
I could feel the rush coming
my small feet started drumming
how could she be so cruel?
this has got to be against some rule!
and there it went
the warm stream I could not prevent
I could tell she was mad
but I had to go SO bad!
she pointed the way out
boy! Did she shout!
“go to the loo! You twitsy-poo”!

Oh. So you thought that was it?
why don’t you take another short sit
to the principals office I walked down
sporting a most shameful frown
she also looked unimpressed
thank goodness, I was wearing a dress
my underwear was wet but my clothes remained dry
if I had to wear lost and found clothes again, I surely would cry
I pictured Mrs. Marriotti as a belly dancer
while she called mom for dry underwear, but there was no answer
I was vexed, with what happened next
you’ll never believe me
the travesty that was caused by my pee
not only was I humiliated, and my new teacher I did annoy
but the underwear I had to wear for the day was made for a BOY!

Levi Love

Once upon a time, not too long before
You were adored by me but not anymore
You are mega lame
What a crying shame
Since your buttocks in Levis, I adore
