Jessica Lineberger Poem
Why do people always say this?
Just because these people are our parents doesn't mean
We have to be just like them.
Everyone assumes I'm like my birth father
When something goes missing
I am blamed because
HE was a kleptomaniac
When my sister is hurt
I am blamed because
HE was abusive
When I do something wrong
They say it's because I'm like him
Because HIS blood runs in my veins
When I am telling the truth
They assume I'm lying because
HE was a pathological liar
I hate being related to someone like this
I hate that HE is my father
But most of all,
I am afraid of turning out like him
I hate when people say
The apple doesn't fall far from the tree

Jessica Lineberger Poem
They always used to say “You’re so lucky”
If only they knew the truth
What happens behind closed doors
The kids who think I’m weird
I shouldn’t be so upset
My life is perfect
One sibling, two dogs, parents who are still together
Lucky me
Walking on eggshells
Trying not to give him a reason to notice me
Lucky me
Hiding the bruises
Always so hard to sit down
Lucky me
Trying to live up to impossible standards
Trying not to let him see me cry,
To see me weaken
Feeling his hand across my face
The sting of the slap lingering for hours it seems
Lucky me
Having to claim this man as my father
The one who should love me the most
All I want is for him to say he’s proud
Well I can’t try any harder
Why doesn’t he love me?
Why am I his personal punching bag?
I just can’t take it any longer
The thoughts of suicide pulling me in
More inviting every day
Like a warm blanket engulfing me
They always say “lucky you”
Yeah. Lucky me.

Jessica Lineberger Poem
Complete, utter bliss
never wanting it to end
it is, my first kiss
I hear bells tolling
Oh wow! are those fireworks?
Does he see them too?
Well it must be love
Yeah it's lame, it's sappy but
Im head over heels
Never felt this way
Wait a sec... where's he going?
He has a girlfriend?!
But i heard bells! and
What about the fireworks?
how is it not love?!?!
Oh, wait a sec...
Forgot, it's fourth of july.
Stupid Fireworks!!!

Jessica Lineberger Poem
More than just a mom, a friend, a superhero in disguise
Always there, always by your side
Never doubtful, tells us to shoot for our dreams
Strict when needed, but never mean
Someone to tell secrets, a shoulder to cry on
A person you can always rely on
A buddy, a chef, a wizard, a chauffer, so many words to describe her
A mentor, for sure
Need help? Go ask a mom
Preferably mine
She's the bomb!

Jessica Lineberger Poem
that four letter word
why won't you just spit it out?
means so much to me
you're my everything
never felt this way before
just say, i love you

Jessica Lineberger Poem
My baby Bella
Those big blue eyes
That gummy smile
She flashes me when
I make a face
Those reddish blonde curls
framing her chubby baby face
She's so adorable
The only thing that keeps me sane,
that keeps me alive,
is her laughter
15 years my junior,
but she's my best friend
I love you Bella Bean

Jessica Lineberger Poem
I dont know who to believe
and who to leave
you say you love me
she says you love her
all i know is i love you
even though youre unfaithful
im so drawn to you
your my drug, my secret desire
i feel like i need you
want you
could die without you
you are mine
i am yours
