The Glass Bangles

The glass bangles
The red glass bangles
The red glass bangles that adorned
The brown, round wrist
The translucent, red glass bangles
That so beautifully captured the sun’s beam
To imprison it within itself
And subtly gleam
The red glass bangles
That adorned the brown, round wrist
Restlessly waiting to tinkle
At the slightest tilt
It decorates the plump wrist
Like the rainbow in the sky
Making the wrist more feminine
And appealing to the eye.
The delicate glass bangle
Cannot boast of a long life
But in the short span of time
Cause splashes of happiness
To a life full of strife…..

Life's Balance Sheet

When the mind with numbers grappled
The heart with thoughts dabbled
When the eyes on the ledgers are fixed
The soul with different hues mixed
To keep the different personas
From trespassing I strive hard
When one dominates the other
The other retards
The heart disobeys the mind
The mind reproves the heart
The tug of war continues
The form bearing the wrath
At last the form too rebels
Expressing in its own way
This story is not new
Has spared only a few
Some say follow the mind
Some say follow the heart
But is not the mind incomplete
Without the company of the heart
One signifies necessity
The other desire
To strike a balance between the two
Lies the success of the affair

Truth

The voice within shrieked
You are beautiful within too
The voice soon cracked
No one cares,is it not the truth?

Koel

The song wafts down with the wind
Pulling at the heart’s strings
Its sweetness lifting my fallen spirits
Gifting them with invisible wings
To soar high in the sky
Releasing the constriction
That comes with being tethered
To worldly inhibitions
My eyes search in vain
For a glimpse of the one who
Owns such melodious strains
And yet wishes to remain unseen
I withdraw my steps
Allowing the space
So fiercely guarded
Somewhere among the green
Am happy that I have
The sweet voice to listen
When the maddening world
Crawls up to my inner being
Our dens are amidst the din
Yet one remains untouched
While the other’s soul
Lies tormented and scorched…

Crossing the Desert

The road through wilderness snaked
The ocean of sand its bosom bared
Thorny plants skywards stared
Mirages stood, in falsehood draped
The rain too made a hasty retreat
No sound to break the eerie conceit
The nocturnal beings too walked in stealth
The dunes too, unsure souls, mislead
The lonely traveler felt a void in his chest
Where the heart had once snugly dwelt

Alter Ego

I know you too well
To believe ,that which is not.
My eyes sees the child vulnerable
Behind the face so palpable
The firm jaws fail to hide the fear
Exposed by the quivering lips
Your ego, made up
Tries hard to cover a gentle heart
Your insecurities and shortcomings
Crouch under an anger false
Your awkward little movements
Draws out the little lad
Your pretension so transparent
Peep through your eyes unguarded
Why try that which you cannot
For you are dear as you are
Be true to yourself
And watch the world love you
To advocate falsehood
Will cause you no good.

Wind and the Speck of Dust

The wind once took fancy on a speck of dust

Her joy knew no bounds when she discovered her luck

She twirled and she danced at the wind’s will

He carried her along over vales and hill

When he raged all bowed before him

He razed to the ground those who confronted him

The speck of dust saw his different forms

Missed the gentle touch with which he had lifted her from the ground

The little speck of dust lived in constant fear

She ceased to recognise her once gentle wind dear

The fear of being abandoned clawed at her soul

Though she danced to his whims his eyes were fixed on greater goals

When quiet, she would settle down on the ground

She knew the quiet was a farce a forerunner of greater fury and sound

She found herself being lost among the things he gathered in his course

Her sorrow knew no bounds and tears flowed out in full force

Her heart grew heavy drenched in her tears

Stranded she was on the ground for even the wind could not lift her

The wind being the wind had to blow for it was his nature

The speck of dust was left alone devoid of happiness and cheer.

Anti Thesis

She was chirpy
He was perky
They took the road
That was bumpy
One was called Humpty
While the other was Dumpty
They never had a fall
For humpty had dumpty had humpty :)

Deathbed

A bed half eaten by termites

She lay on, like her ancestors

Before her, ripe of age

A leaf that had been dried

Between pages yellowed with age

Threatening to fall apart

At the slightest feel.

Her eyes no longer

Windows to her soul

The black holes they were

From which nothing escaped.

She breathed day and night

To the dismay of her children

Who stood by her bedside

Doing nothing but helplessly sigh

Even the tattered blanket

Seemed to mock her

When pulled over her head

Let her scrawny feet peep out

The wait seemed endless

Making all wonder

Was it death refusing to claim her?

Or her refusing to quit?

Divine Consort

He who creates, preserves and destroys
To Him I am wedded.
The alliance fixed
Even before I am conceived.

At an age tender
When a girl’s friends are the dolls
All my dreams are rendered false
And my life torn asunder

The confines of the temple
Become my world
Hardships and toil
Are at me hurled

A day in a year
Is all that fate permits
Without any fear
For me to walk the streets

Then am the divine consort
Respected by all
The rest of the days
Men lurk to pounce and maul

I desire not
To be the consort of God
With a man of human flaws
Is all that I desire to abode…..
