A Seed of Poetry

Like water that flows in a river
Time will not stop and wait
It comes and then it goes
And now will soon be late
The sun will not rise
And forget to set
Today will not stay here forever

Time was born and passed away
While I was chasing dreams
I never dreamt of
Dreaming of things that were
Not for me to dream about

I didn’t know at first
That in my inside
There is a seed germinating
Deep in the roots of my heart
Where veins and arteries
Carry blood in and out

The eyes of my eyes
Could not see
The ears of my ears
Could not hear
The tongue of my tongue
Could not taste
The nose of my nose
Could not smell
The mind of my mind
Was uncounscious
As this seed
Was patiently growing

It was watered by tears
That couldn’t fall off my eyes
When I cried
It was fertilized by my deep thoughts
That denied me time to rest
The pain I felt within
Was manure to it

And now it has grown
It has grown into a tree
it has grown into a green looking tree
A tree that sprouts colorful flowers
And I am hopeful
Hopeful to reap tasty fruits
Of this seed of poetry
Sown in me by God

Come, Oh the Wind

Come, oh the wind
with the muscle of a wrestler
come to sweep through me
fiercely I say
and carry me away
away from myself
to a place so desert
and there I will find peace

Come, oh the wind
come so fast and fierce
to rake through me
and blow my sorrows away
to the wilds I say
and let them perish

Come, oh the wind
come like a hurricane
and rush through me
inflate my dreams with hope
and let them rise like a balloon
to reach the stars and the moon

Come, oh the wind
come let me be
a soul I wish to be

My Heart Speaks

It speak what it feels
Because of what I see
Because of what I hear
Because of what I taste
Because of what I smell
Because of what I touch

Whatever it feels
Rushes into my veins
Flows in my blood
All the way to my fingers
And through my fingers
It diffuses into the pen,
In to the ink

Through the pen’s point
The ink oozes
Into a piece of paper
Sitting before me
And I scribble
What my heart speaks

Let Us Walk Together

Let us walk together
to a garden of flowers
beneath a clear
blue sky of spring weather

we will when we get there my love
while away time
sitting under cool shades
of sinuously swaying trees
as we listen to the mellifluous
harm of nectar sucking bees

and the enchanting songs
of flower birds and watch
as butterflies of all glorious
colors grace the place

and when we are deeply satisfied
I will pick for you the flower
most admired by bees,
flower birds and butterflies

and we shall walk back home
dreaming of love
which does not wither
as time grows old
with a vivid picture
of a never aging flower garden
painted on our minds

See How the Rain

See how the rain oils
the dehydrated skin
and heal the excruciating pain
of the starving mother earth

see how it brings
long waited for salvation
to the malnourished
fauna and flora

see how it brings
life to the dead
yet patient rivers
having waited for so long
under the hot burning
merciless sun

see how the rain fills
people with hope
joy and excitement
and washes away their fears
drowning them
in water filled rivers

see then how the land is
dressed in colors
captivating to the eyes
and how the air is
heavy with pungent aromas
and sweet with melodic songs
of birds caressing the skies

Two Minutes To the Graduation Ceremony

We will on that long awaited Saturday of October
at a ceremony graced by men of great stature
be officially declared victors in academics

We will take a well-rehearsed parade
towards the podium where we will shake hands
with professors and be crowned
with a title no one can ever take away from us

oh fellow graduate, do you recall those times
when we were often in helter-skelter situations
scurrying on pavements with heavy bundles of books;
heavy with unsolved problems?

We fell sometimes; yes we fell
but we dared to rise and regrouped our focus
and now we shall wear these gowns,
we shall wear these clothes tagged success
and shoes free of dust; proud of ourselves

For we eyed for this title
we eyed for it with determination
and we have it on our own hands now
and no one, no one can ever take it away from us

Victory

There was silence across the land
People had been forced indoors
By the fear of living in the dark
On a thick black sky
Appeared multitudinous tiny stars
They seemed to be helpless
Defeated by the seemingly undefeatable darkness
Then from a shadowed horizon far east
Ascended an angel, the moon
Her garment pure white as snow
She rose up very slowly and confidently
And fought bravely against darkness
Until he was reduced to ruins
And suddenly all over the place
Started a hullabaloo of cheerful fowls
The death of silence across the land
Declared her victorious
The moon an artist; painted the sky in white
Carved the world into casted shadows
Her victory melted fear away in the dying night
And made the world look romantic instead

A Poem For My Mother

I am a seed which
From you germinated
And you a place
Where I was sown
Grew and firmly rooted

I am a flower which
From you sprouted
Grew well in the comfort
Of your cosy arms
Which like sepals
to petals
In a flower wrapped
Me with tenderness

Your love was
A fertilizer for my growth
Food for my hunger
My warmth in coldness
It was Like water,
Air and sunlight
To a germinating seed

My Name Has a Meaning

My name, Bojosi
Is a fire which started
In my mother
And consumed
Her inside
When she delivered
Me to this world

She says
“ When I was imprisoned
   in a maternity ward
   at the hospital
at the time of your birth
   son
   I was alone, none
   of them
   I call my relatives
   I call my friends
   visited me
   when I needed
   their love most
   and when they asked
   me, the nurses in white
what name I give to you
    I called you Bojosi ”

my name, Bojosi
short as it is
is a poem
that my mother
composed
when joy and pain
of giving birth
prevailed in her life

my name has a meaning…..

Obscure

Sometimes I sit on my loneliness
In a place full of quietness
and Listen as my heartbeat
to the rythm of time
And dream that one of the days
A voice trapped in my inside
Will come out as loud as thunder
To make a sudden impact
To be admired by the whole world
And free me from this
Prison of obscurity
I sit there and wonder
If really the talent I possess
Is the right weapon
To hunt for this desired success
And start to feel my confidence
Repelled by demoralizing thoughts
And feel myself a tiny star
tiny enough not to be seen
Yet I do not stop dreaming
Of one day being freed
from this prison of obscurity
