Politician Chops A Tomato In His Kitchen, Another Politician Sips Tea In His Second Kitchen

Politician chops a tomato
in his kitchen
Now he's chopping a lettuce
in his kitchen
He's saying things at the same time
in his kitchen

He's endowed with multi-skilled sets
Yes he must live in the real world I've guessed
He can chop a tomato
And then a lettuce
And talk at the same time
I've never chopped a lettuce in my life
in my kitchen
I have chopped a tomato though
But it wasn't in my kitchen
It was in someone else's
kitchen
It was a pretty weird situation
That pretty weird kitchen situation is for another poem
And probably one you won't want to read
if I'm being honest
So I won't be honest..honest.

Well that tells us all we need to know
I'm convinced
I always wondered whether he could chop a tomato
in his kitchen
It's not easy at the best of times
You know that
I know that
Let's not pretend
And he did it all in front of the cameras
in his kitchen
Chopping a lettuce truly earns my respect
And should earn yours too
A man who can chop a lettuce and talk about not wanting to be prime minister for a third term
When he's still in his first
To think that far ahead
in his kitchen
While chopping a tomato
and then a lettuce
in his kitchen
Talking at the same time
in his kitchen
About not wanting to be prime minister for a third term
When he's still serving his first
That truly earns my respect
Like watching a marine punch a gazelle..

And regardless of whoever's kitchen I happen to be in
Were I to be in your kitchen for example
I would feel that same swell of admiration
And I promise I would never chop a tomato
in your kitchen
And definitely not a lettuce
Just in case you're wondering
I don't eat lettuce
And even if I did
I would never chop it in your kitchen
Even if I were to be in a really bad mood..

And here's another politician
This one is in his second kitchen
Conversing with his wife while drinking tea
in his second kitchen
I know that could never be me
I don't have a first wife and I don't have a second kitchen
(and I don't really sip tea for I'm an uncouth gulper
probably my Indian upbringing)
Thus I could never be a democratic socialist leader
Although I'd like to be
Who could believe in me
When I don't have a second kitchen to sip tea in
with a wife which I don't have
Listening attentively to my democratic socialist thoughts
While sipping tea which I wouldn't sip anyway
Being more of an uncouth gulper probably because of my Indian upbringing
in my second kitchen
which I also don't have..

To be that man who can sip tea so nonchalantly
Not even in his first kitchen
But in his second kitchen
The one that he's not used to sipping tea in
That's beyond the call of duty
So beyond you
And me
So who really lives in the real world
Well I think that's plain to see

Poet Destroyer Parades and Carnivals

Poet Destroyer - Parades and Carnivals

Soft feathers gather up with color
On the wind to play as friends
They come floating first above the boulevard
Kind thoughts there elevate, somewhere between the innocence
Trumpets, drums and violins come thumping on the street
Poet Destroyer is there to keep the peace
Hiding in disguise as Linda
She jumps up one thousand feet and lands
Right in the heart of Poetry Soup with marching bands
Flutes come alive while she eats fire
Catching knives between her teeth, and bullets just for fun
While petting hungry tigers, yawning all the while
Parades fill in the rest of life with yellows reds and peach designs
When PD comes marching down the streets all smiles
She wakes up, takes on greater feats
Casting royal colors in purples, gold and lavenders
Announcing the start of carnival
Trusted, serene, sweet dreams and memories
She speaks of dragons flying by her side in times gone by
But today, arise!... carnivals, parades, and dancing happy feet
Bad memories sink out of sight
Diabolical forces, hard matters, enemies of play
Will have to gravitate their weight some other day
No draconian measures or moments here
PD has come to host parades and gaiety
Delicious love and fun gather up the sun
You can certainly feel the warmth
Rising lighter than the feathers to tickle everyone
Linda jumps again and does it just for fun

Beatle Mania

Beatlemania (The Fab Four As Lovers) Once a choir boy, John turned to romance, Fell for Yoko almost at first glance. In full public view In bed with her too - Showed the world how to “give peace a chance.” Quiet George played much more than guitar. Lost his wife to another rock star. Layla left him because Of how hung up he was On the music he made with his sitar! Ringo acted in “Caveman” and met His wife Barb (once a Bond girl) on set. Though the film of this drummer Was dumber than dumber, Wise in love, he’s not left his Barb yet! A heart breaker, Paul left Wife "One" For Linda, and made her a vegan! On their farm smoking pot, They made money (a LOT)! He’s a genius whose life sure seems fun! written Oct. 13, 2013 for the BeatleMania Contest of Rhonda Johnson-Saunders

THE GOLDEN PEN

Lightly the rain falls upon the lamp lit streets, the shabbily dressed figure
Walks with an air of uncertainty down the cobbled stone streets, leaning,
On his rickety cane, the elderly gentleman huddles beneath his umbrella Of refuge.
Shadows of the tenement brownstones line the edge of this rough necked
Part of town, here is the sheltering halls of the forgotten do dwell, the poorer
Venue that slum lords build their fortune’s foundation’s upon.
The gentlemen approaches his own dwellings dormancy with hesitations
Beating heart throbbing within his small fragile bent frame, for he knows
Tonight shall be his last night on this ethereal plane of existence.
For one last moments belief reflection he remains completely still, just to
To feel the autumn breeze against his bare flesh, to hear the rain drops hitting
Against the window panes, and to bid his final farewell to humanity.
Taking out his keys with his wrinkled twisted hands, he unlocks the doors
To his apartment, turning around to look outwards the gentlemen sighs, it has
Been a hard life, but I’m resolved to meet the next adventure, then he shuts
And locks the tenement’s door.
Weary from his days traveling the elderly gentlemen, climbs his steps upwards,
Towards his little room in the back area of his apartments, then he sits at his office
Desk for the last and final time, now to complete my journeys final entry, he thought
To himself this writer of the super natural’s acclaim.
Dipping his quilted golden pen into his ink well, the master writes one last line,
The end, or is this just the beginning?
Clumping over, clasping upon his desk the elder gentlemen’s heart lies stilled
As if at perfection’s final rest, his golden pen now runs crimson, bleeding downwards
Across the aged parchment paper, dripping onto the old wooden floor boards below.
The office door blows open a tall figure thus so enters, dressed in a raggedy robe of black,
Thread borne and full of tares and wholes, the creature approaches the dead gentleman,
As if in a screeching howl, the Grim Reapers touches him, ripping his spectral spirit
Free from the fleshes boney shell.
I’ve come for you old man, resist me not for your sins are heavy, and I’ve no time for
The ranting or ravening’s last pleas for salvations from one such as yourself, I have no
Last wishes qualms my friend, take me at your leisure, for I’ve grown weary of this life,
And it’s lonely emptiness.
Then the room grows cold, the ethereal disturbance ends as quickly as it had begun,
Leaving only the shell sitting at the old wooden desk, what happens when the writers
Golden pen runs crimson, bleeding downwards across the aged parchment paper,
Dripping onto the old wooden floor boards below?
The world of humanity thus so weeps for him, for he is the grand master of darkness’s
Written word, the skilled craftsman’s whom reveals what lies beyond the darker realms
Ebony gates, by his darker words of wonderment.
Farewell Mr. Edgar Allen Poe, we shall miss you always, you whom welcomed death
So easily, but the world of men is left empty without thee, as thy golden pen thus so
Now runs crimson and lies stilled forever.

Meeting The Soupers

"Your first poem was an
excellent poem....you are
welcome...." Commented
skat on my first poem.
"Wonderful and deep
poem....you are welcome
to poetry soup..." That
was Poet Destroyer.
"Wow you have touched
my heart in a special way
with your poem.....your
new friend Leonora
Galinta" said Galinta.
"Well penned" said
kithinji and so many
special poets.
Hearty words from these
unique poets spurred me
to write better poems.
Which they appreciate.
Poetry soup is safe haven
where feelings and
emotions are expressed
in tangible forms.
An educational enclave
where different forms of
knowledge are
exchanged like two
hands washing eachother.
Am most humbled to
meet these dazzling
gems radiating warmth
like the sun-a privilege it
is connect to parts of the
planet.
I believe we all will meet
someday,not in the after
life.
Leonora Galinta is an
angel to meet,whom I
admire amongst others.
Love to set my eyes on
her delicate and graceful
nature. See her graceful
carriage, feel her gentle
hands and smiles as she
exudes sweetness. I pray
hand of time will
backwards when that
day appears as we walk
in the woods leading to
silent deep blue sea with
gentle breeze
whispering...... A prolific
writer as well.
PD will I meet
someday,love her
amiable nature,full of
grace and charm. A
prolific poetess.
Skat is lovely with her
immeasurable words of
encouragement.
Kithinji will I love to
behold,to learn from him.
Have drink with Robin,
Alian, shake akinyemi,
stroll with Joe, hv a hike
with
Sibanda, dine with Ralph
and you.
Saying hi and hugs to
Paz Samelo.
Meeting the soupers is
making a happy family.
   Am gliding like the
eagle,soaring higher as
the day pass by.
you soupers are my
strength.

Celebrity

They are not rich.
They have no car.
They have no fat.
They have no dream.

They are not so-called educated persons.
They are not news.

They are struggling for existence.

They have not any exceed of life
Which is poison.

They live with their old parents.

They have innocent smile and intuition.

They created their poor house as rich home.

They are my celebrities.
But I am not communist.

Nurse Anne

            Nurse Anne

Snow steeped in mountains and mountains steeped in snow
Evergreens and pine trees hold the earth with purpose
Nurse Anne steps into hospital from brutal winter cold
Measures stethoscopes and takes gentle pulses
Takes care of bullet wounds and children on her rounds
Wears white, green or blue uniforms or gowns while working
That’s pure speculation as you know
Nurse Anne is not a lawyer according to close sources
She writes poetry on line, refines them in her leisure time
Her prescription for good health and life is simple
Eat vegetables, fishes and less meat
Most importantly, Breath, (it helps a lot)
Take moderation in everything
Get plenty of rest and sleep
And if you can’t be intelligent or stay on your toes
At least stay on your feet
Naturally a life spent vertically is not advised
Nurse Anne wants us all to exercise
She will help you to get by and back to skiing
With her good guidance and by being wise
She does her noble work then travels home
Returns to evening
To writing poems at her own leisure

It's All About Me

            It’s All About Me

Truer words were never spoken
When people say or do something bad to someone else….
Especially Catie!
They diminish themselves as human beings
Making Catie shine, through the mire, above the fray

Hard work and harder play, make us who we are
Our spark of humanity comes from that
Not from the gutter or mouths of others
Sweet Catie is on all our loving lists at Poetry Soup
She is our sister, that is no mystery

We share our minds and souls with her together
In this mortal battle we call life, we write against the tyranny
It is our pleasure to call Catie one of us
With thoughts of kindness, we share her feelings
Lift her through this darkness and pray that better weather comes

If Catie ever visits us, here at the Soup, we promise not to stick gum in her hair
We promise to play fair and only tease her on alternating funny Sundays, with loving care

Superman

Superman
My superman
He doesn't wear a long red cape or fly in the air
he can't kill off evil villains with the power of a single glare
But what he does have is rare and cannot be seen
I can't see no wrong in him, he's hardly ever mean
He has a heart so pure and a charm so sweet I think he's heaven sent
All the girls get googly eyes but they can't have my Mr. Clark Kent
But ladies don't be discourage there's a superman out there waiting for you
God will give a man that will change the world from the earth to the moon

Leonardo DiCaprio

Dedicated to my love: Leonardo DiCaprio

For how many years have I loved you
I think it has to be about eighteen
We were both so young in those days
But I still longed to be your queen
With each film I fell more in love
With each role you reminded
"This is what true talent is made of"
Beautiful Leonardo
How keenly I feel
How much I love you
Probably too much, but still
You have shown true beauty
You have shown true grace
You're a perfect specimen
Of the human race
You are of the greatest actors
Of this generation and more
For there will never be another
That I so much adore

he is leaving home

In great respect of the band I grew up listening to
as sure as Mom passed down Saturday Chores
for I had been chosen to scrub bathroom floors `

Yet a familiar sound would bring me to keep scrubbing
The red album, The blue album , The White album
Then .. Abbey Road , always remembering the sad look on
Ringo's face , something hard to understand underneath~

I get it now, what you were saying all those years ago ,
the many sad lonely tears , secret tears , secret fears
For Maxwell's Hammer was a real one . It wanted silence

Going back ..remembering when John Lennon died
I was in Arkansas saddened with the world .
Then seeing his face saying " Drag isn't it "
No .. this was not my hero in music and song .

he was a stand in hired William , he filled his shoes
bringing diversity to create so much beautiful music from loss

One left standing , alone;; grief struck on back cover ~
The other identity hidden, tried to be part of ..coming together

                            his world of secrets
He to suffers today , in fear , Faul~

Too many years gone by .let us tell the Truth. Let us be free
The very sad long and winding Road ~
Let us Bury our real Paul.

No more " Mystery tour "
                             No more fear
Let him be in peace ~

the day you flew to Heaven

We knew , it was if a moment stopped in time
hearing the news before most of the World did
He loved to fly his plane from Colorado to Monterey Bay
He was a avid golfer at Pebble Beach respected

He had loves and passions from many places
deciding to fly low through the overcast red sunset
Not only did he love music and inspire all
He loved his Plane , he will always remain a beautiful Soul

The next day it was confirmed ..all saddened
It was John Denver's plane that went down
Today in Pacific Grove stands the Memorial
So Kiss me and smile for me we will ~

The country gathering

The country gathering

Sometimes the folk all got together
In the little country house
Now there was Tom the tiny tiger
Well, he could be a louse
But could he play that old guitar
Man! he made it speak
And when the folk did hear him play
He made their legs go weak.

There was Winifred the otter
How she did those drums
Her rhythm it could suck one in
If you were feeling glum
You’re legs would start to dancing
As you’d rise up to the sky
And all those troubles that you had
They’d fade away and die.

Now Mugly Minie, could she sing!!
She was the porcupine
She’d stand there with a glass of wine
And she’d just blow your mind
As Billie basset, the friendly bear
Would play that bass so cool
Now he was quiet, and very shy
But lord, he had it all.

People came from miles around
To hear those fellows play
They’d dance and sing Chicago blues
Their hearts alive and gay
They’re going to be a big time band
One day, they all know this
But all they really want to do
Is play, that’s how it is.

Renaissance Reed

Lou Reed , Mistral of his time
so you walked this road on the wild side
unique in music , never selling out
believing in Art instead of commercialize

Lou Reed the musician never compromised ~
Sweet Jane not enough for our crowd of eccentric rockers
still will live forever with the many that left before you
one can imagine from John Lennon to Johnny Ramone

a party in Heaven of the finest rock bestowed
no text , no MTV when they pursued a dream
New York, hotel Chelsea an age of Renaissance
ragged jeans and leather jackets ,Art on stage

No, your Rock not ever fade away , it will stay sweet Jane forever ~

For the fine Man with words , ode to Lou Reed .

Why do we

After reading all the shite about colony this morning this just came. Might not be appreciated by some, but you’ve got to admit there is truth in it…peter

Why do we?

Why do we give our power away?
Put folk on pedestals
I see it happen all the time
It drives me up the wall
Presley, Clooney, Pitt, and Jolie
And all the rest of them
They’re just people nothing more
Yet folk treat them like gems

Why do we worship sports hero’s
And guys who reach the top
Hatred, fear and all such things
These folk they still do cop
They’re just like us they eat and sleep
And all those other things
They cannot fly like angels do
And still bad luck life brings

Why do we have Gods in the sky
Each group a different one
Why can’t we worship all of life
From the flowers to the sun
And know that we’re all just the same
Quivering heaps of fear
If each of us could find ourselves
This message would be clear

AM GLAD YOU DO

___I'm glad you do___

I'm glad you feel me
I'm glad you free me
I'm glad you do help me
‘o sing again.
I'm glad you move it
I'm glad you roll it
I'm glad you do pop it
‘nd make me whole.

In the history, those days won’t soon be forgotten
‘till this time, your words still worth a fortune
They will go nowhere; they will be with me forever
Those nights we shared, they will grow in me as ever.

I'm glad you feel me
I'm glad you free me
I'm glad you do help me
‘o sing again.
I'm glad you move it
I'm glad you roll it
I'm glad you do pop it
‘nd make me whole.

As ever, you're the light I use to see
You're my savior, the one that set me free
You're an angel, that angel at the fore
You're a heroine, that heroine of the war.

I'm glad you feel me
I'm glad you free me
I'm glad you do help me
‘o sing again.
I'm glad you move it
I'm glad you roll it
I'm glad you do pop it
‘nd make me whole.

You set me free and still stay by me
You let me feel… the fresh of where I be
You succor to the battle you do not begin
You let me live… though you do not commit a sin.

I'm glad you feel me
I'm glad you free me
I'm glad you do help me
‘o sing again.
I'm glad you move it
I'm glad you roll it
I'm glad you do pop it
‘nd make me whole.

You're my light, the one I use to see
You're my savior, the one that set me free
You're an angel, that angel I met at the shore
You're that queen, my queen for sure.

I'm glad you feel me
I'm glad you free me
I'm glad you do help me
‘o sing again.
I'm glad you move it
I'm glad you roll it
I'm glad you do pop it
‘nd make me whole.

I'm glad about what you do
You make my heart brand new.
I'm proud of you
I'm glad you do...

BOTH SIDES NOW

I once was a frustrated musician in the city park
Just an unknown artist who stayed way past dark
My audience was mostly the squirrels and birds
Not a soul knew the man who painted with words

One day I was discovered and everything changed
From morning to late night my schedule rearranged
Fame and money so much more than I could believe
Had it all, but there was always, even more to achieve

I've looked at life from both sides now
From lows to highs, and still somehow
It's life's illusions I recall
I really didn't know life at all

Slowly all this popularity began to suck my soul dry
A slave to handlers and schedules felt like I would die
So I hatched a plan and borrowed a friend's name
Hidden in obscurity Poetry Soup started as a game

But something surprising happened along the way
Began to fall in love with other poets more every day
A poetry contest for simple glory totally captivated me
And it was in this bowl of Soup I began to clearly see

I've looked at life from both sides now
From lows to highs, and still somehow
It's life's illusions I recall
I really didn't know life at all

That musician in the city park actually had it made
Surrounded by nature's beauty while the artist played
The night sky incredible, something money can't buy
The audience that matters dwells in Heaven on high

It's nice to be loved and valued without the aid of fame
To woo only with your words, riches can't be blamed
But how would things change if I revealed my identity
Would my fellow soupers forgive and love me for me

I've looked at life from both sides now
From lows to highs, and still somehow
It's life's illusions I recall
I really didn't know life at all

Note: The contest is themed after Joni's famous "Both Sides Now" song. To play
off of her song I quote almost verbatim her concluding chorus. I do so three
times intentionally for effect and give full credit to Joni Mitchel as the original
writer of said chorus.

Contest: Alfred Vassallo's "Both Sides Now"

She Is A Cougar

you were sexually charged through all the parties you barged ready to motor with the crowd proud, looking for the well endowed still you danced with all the boys blended into the background noise a cougar in the skin and bones of a young girl well preserved, vanilla with a cherry swirl they never heard your roar little men never do anymore you hid under the vapour of your vodka you hid in the guise of your drama grabbed your willing prey you never did anything halfway kept them all on standby blamed it on a twenty six ounce high you don’t need wings to fly or an excuse to tell a lie you’re dressed like a woman with class but you know you've rolled in the grass with the body of a lady long legs and more you keep a room with a revolving door like a pro you moved to the beat grabbed your sacrificial hunk of meat
