Dungeons of the Soul

Beware the secrets castles keep,
In empty chambers tucked away,
Within your soul they do not sleep.

There, quietly within they creep
Kept hidden from the light of day.
Beware the secrets castles keep.

Lost down behind where conscience weeps
The secrets know they cannot stay.
Within your soul they do not sleep.

Through many walls it slowly seeps
Till when our peace becomes the prey.
Beware the secrets castles keep.

We're warned that what we sow we reap.
At harvest time we'll have to pay.
Within your soul they do not sleep.

Loud echos from within betray
The secret truths that were delayed.
Beware the secrets castles keep.
Within your soul they do not sleep.

Wish

Holding onto a dream without a face
Paralyzed in limbo, not here or there
Following a road that leads no place

Where are you , please leave a trace
I'm overwhelmed by things to share
Holding onto a dream without a face

Desiring only to have my little space
Existing happily only one single care
Following a road that leads no place

Wanting once to not end in disgrace
Taking this for granted I do not dare
Holding onto a dream without a face

I don't understand this, I have no base
Sorry, I don't know how I can prepare
Following a road that leads no place

Fatigued in this never ending rat race
Ultimate failure, I'm not able to bear
Holding onto a dream without a face
Following a road that leads no place

Blooms of Color

A cherished world of light and dark and colors in between
delights the eye and heart and mind with sights which make us sigh,
blooms red, to pink, to lavender, to orange, blue, and green.

The forest's filled by morning light in amber and citrine
reveals the white tail doe who leaps, as blackbirds sound the cry.
A cherished world of light and dark and colors in between.

Upon the mossy shore of playful brook the frogs careen
leaping past the level pads of water lilies pink near bye.
Blooms red, to pink, to lavender, to orange, blue, and green.

And men exist to fill a niche from onyx to casein
our skins transformed by natures heat under foreign skies.
A cherished world of light and dark and colors in between
Blooms red, to pink, to lavender, to orange, blue, and green.

Hell on Earth

Each day I rise wondering what has happened to humanity Is it the end of times, it seems things can't get much worse They toil and run on a wheel like rats to their own calamity Seeking things which once were called of the flesh, of vanity Every word out of their mouths, brings down another curse Each day I rise wondering what has happened to humanity What misfortune we bring upon ourselves, risking our sanity Could there be new vile thing left in which we could immerse They toil and run on a wheel like rats to their own calamity Stories they believe of a world once purged by a great sea They say they believe, but all of their actions very diverse Each day I rise wondering what has happened to humanity Money, greed, and corruption is the root of all evil you see Salvation, grace, nor love will be traded for contents of purse They toil and run on a wheel like rats to their own calamity I am not innocent of anything as I make this lofty decree Only a small hope of seeking right can I possibly nurse Each day I rise wondering what has happened to humanity They toil and run on a wheel like rats to their own calamity

Storm Approaches

The light is absorbed within the great wall The darkness fills all that’s here completely The light condenses, becomes the dark call Rain comes crashing in with clouds quite tall There seems to be lots of insanity The light is absorbed within the great wall The wind blows, it whips around on a ball Hopelessness hits a few, fear hits many The light condenses, becomes the dark call It’s so dark, and so slick you sure might fall Sour look is from lack of tranquility The light is absorbed within the great wall Fortress that the storm emits makes you crawl The dark sky makes sure it’s light you can’t see The light condenses, becomes the dark call Storm rages, nothing about this is small Light fades fast within the dark certainly The light is absorbed within the great wall The light condenses, becomes the dark call

Sorrow

Light fades fast into darkness, forever a word of past
Hope hides helpless now, in the midst of this turmoil
Lost lonely sorrow, no pleasure, for now nor morrow

Better days will come, to this it's taught stay steadfast
Covered by black storm clouds, faith continues loyal
Light fades fast into darkness, forever a word of past

Happiness of youth, an idea we temporarily borrowed
Time moves fast making body, soul and heart spoil
Lost lonely sorrow, no pleasure, for now nor morrow

A day will come when we will have to face our sorrow
We look, examine our lives, many, sadly left to recoil
Light fades fast into darkness, forever a word of past

To one end, weak or strong, we all do tend to follow
For that purpose, all strive, search, conspire and toil
Lost lonely sorrow, no pleasure, for now nor morrow

Finding meaning in life, a quest that is never shallow
However it's always elusive, at times angers to a boil
Light fades fast into darkness, forever a word of past
Lost lonely sorrow, no pleasure, for now nor morrow

Soul of the night

Have I looked upon the darkest hour
Cluelessly cleansing, experience dire
Renewed regret, taste of the flower

Cunning clever concoctions, now sour
Triggering a transformation by fire
Have I looked upon the darkest hour

With witty wings I flew, now I cower
Restless reasoning, ready to inquire
Renewed regret, taste of the flower

Tantalizing temptation takes power
Honestly only one thing that I desire
Have I looked upon my darkest hour

Written rhythm and rhyme I scour
Savvy sayings of saints, I don't tire
Renewed regret, taste of the flower

A blundering bluntness as I devour
Wicked witchcraft have I called sire
Have I looked upon the darkest hour
Renewed regret, taste of the flower

mother WHO i HATE

Mother, mother can't you see?
How much are you putting the needle,
Deep inside of my heart?
I know the pain won't go away!
I know you are blind to see the truth!

Pain pain pain,
When will you go away?
Anger, hate & discouragement
Always comes my way!
What am I supposed to do?
I feel alone deep inside,
I feel the empty pressure against my chest,
In a prison of hate,
I am sick of the people who I love,
Betraying me & ruining the trust,
God above who sees your actions,
I hope He will never forgives you,
For you who keep on sin.

One day you will see
Throw my eyes & my pain,
One day you will stop on pretend,
Realize your mistakes,
It will be too late,
I will be gone far away,
I will never come back again!

Child

Remember your fear of the dark, child,
When sleep attempts to steal your sight,
And monsters creep in, tall, sharp and wild.

Sharp teeth, sharp claws, all to make you mild,
They close in, trying to steal your light.
Remember your fear of the dark, child.

Imagine yourself a hero, riled
Up with holy fury and banishing might,
When monsters creep in, tall, sharp and wild.

Hissing, screaming, from your room, exiled,
But not forever, just for the night.
Remember your fear of the dark, child.

When morning came, you childishly reviled
their failed attempt to bring you fright,
When monsters crept in, tall, sharp and wild.

Do not think that they can be beguiled
Into staying away another night.
Remember your fear of the dark, child,
When monster crept in, tall, sharp and wild.

Delusion of Light

Once captivated by your light that shined bright
Smooth sailing seas, but I now resemble a shark
Your presence in times of sorrow, once a delight

Again I move through the cold, this is my plight
A weary werewolf under dark moon, not a lark
Once captivated by your light that shined bright

Freezing wind blowing I move from left to right
The bitter bite foreshadowed by a familiar bark
Your presence in times of sorrow, once a delight

Confusion sets in and now, insanity with insight
This thing threatens, but I’m obligated to hark
Once captivated by your light that shined bright

Weak in soul, but my mind feels a strange might
The pleasant placating voice has to now embark
Your presence in times of sorrow, once a delight

If it’s a phase, I promise it is not done from spite
This clever close alliterated, a remaining remark
Once captivated by your light that shined bright
Your presence in times of sorrow, once a delight

Don't Let Me Fall Back To Sleep

My love, please, don't let me fall back to sleep
But hold me while I cry soft in the night
My dreaming is full of nightmares, my sweet

Yes, I'm tired, but this price is too steep
You see, in each dream I lose you, each time
My love, please, don't let me fall back to sleep

I was in a crowd, all blank-faced as sheep
I looked for you; you were nowhere in sight
My dreaming is full of nightmares, my sweet

I was running through a forest, running through trees
Then I saw the snakes lunging in the half-light
My love, please, don't let me fall back to sleep

Never have I known dreaming to be so bleak
Never had something to lose, to for fight
My dreaming is full of nightmares, my sweet

I don't want to sleep alone; come now please
Come to me so I can finally breathe
My love, please, don't let me fall back to sleep
My dreaming is full of nightmares, my sweet

Cornered

Hollow halls seem empty devoid of life, consumed.
Much that is, is hidden now, deep within the gloom,
waiting just waiting for life's breath to be resumed.

A child who has gone missing, her small death presumed,
sits huddled in a corner here, waiting for her doom.
Hollow halls seem empty devoid of life, consumed.

He searched for her, knife in hand, her scent like perfume,
her blood and sweat, and her fear, fell about the room,
waiting just waiting for life's breath to be resumed.

Outside the stable, saviors shout, the bark of dogs resumed,
cowering in the midden, hiding from the groom,
hollow halls seem empty, devoid of life, consumed.

They had found her coffin, but no corpse was exhumed.
A shot rang out, she saw him die, bloody-chest abloom,
waiting just waiting for life's breath to be resumed.

Great gagging gasps, bellow's breath, rose in heated plumes,
as dogs and men came running, at the rifles boom.
Hollow halls seem empty devoid of life consumed
waiting just waiting for life's breath to be resumed.

What My Dark Knight Wrought

My love for him I’d finally abjure. My grief was brief ; he was a heartless fake. But what my dark knight wrought will long endure. He flew in on a steed, a soul cocksure, A vision that I even now can’t shake. My love for him I’d finally abjure. No humble cavalier, but saboteur, He bore a two-edged blade and was a rake. But what my dark knight wrought will long endure. A grin, black eyes that burned me through - his lure. And when he spoke, I felt my body quake. My love for him I’d finally abjure. My sense of what was right, though grown obscure, I managed to maintain and not forsake. But what my dark knight wrought will long endure. Could passion that he breathed have been my cure? Unlikely. . . but I reveled in the ache. My love for him I’d finally abjure, But what my dark knight wrought will long endure.

WHY IS LIFE EITHER DARK OR BRIGHT

Why is life either dark or bright,
dreary as death and joyful as birth?
Why can't it be brighter than light?

Some aim high at claiming their birthright,
their thoughts are rooted in worth;
why is life either dark or bright?

For many days and nights are cursed with fright,
often failure becomes an unbearable torment;
why can't it be brighter than light?

Could anyone restore a man's blind sight,
or multiply a fish by invoking a thought?
Why is life either dark or bright?

And should all who seem impeccably right,
hide hatred and envy by not rising a doubt?
Why is life either dark or bright?

Must I remind everyone how fragile is might;
wasn't life created from water and dust?
Why is life either dark or bright?
Why can't it be brighter than light?

Danger Lurked

Danger lurked in each alleyway
pungent smells could not overcome it
fear gathered hanging darkly

Terror striking minds all edgy
creeping fear filling the dark pit
danger lurked in each alleyway

Draughty eerie winds blow fiercely
ahead a faint glow, a light lit
fear gathered hanging darkly

The screams I can hear not earthy
what on earth can be the culprit
danger lurked in each alleyway

An apparition all ghostly
clothed in a scary outfit
fear gathered hanging darkly

I stood peering, the night inky
the shadows moved seeming to emit
danger lurked in each alleyway
fear gathered hanging darkly

Eldritch Dark

The things that lurk I dare not lark
For nothing is ever what it seems
In that lonesome and eldritch dark

Sounds of melancholy lark
Harboring thoughts that suddenly gleam
Those eerie sounds I dare not hark

Kids that once laughed through out this park
Now swallowed whole by nightmarish dreams
In the lonesome and eldritch dark

It comes to me, sudden and stark
What was there in the light of moonbeams
But, no, I mustn't stop to hark

Something as rare as Noah's ark;
A shadow a-midst a silent stream
In that lonesome and eldritch dark

The devil himself won't embark
I solemnly swear I've heard his screams
And lord have mercy, I stopped to hark,
In that unforgiving eldritch dark!

Something Stirring

As night descends, casting darkness
all is silent and so very still
waiting, listening, and breathless

Into the dark of nights coldness
do you feel it, that stone cold chill
as night descends, casting darkness

The cold seeping chilling denseness
it seems to invade , to instill
waiting, listening, and breathless

Something stirring in the blackness
the noises now loud and so shrill
as night descends, casting darkness

Death shows his face full of graveness
in the dark stands waiting to kill
waiting, listening and breathless

Now life seeps away, its painless
just a gasp then it flees noiseless
as night descends, casting darkness
waiting, listening and breathless

Eternal flight of dark and light

The shadows of eternal light
Reason by virtues light complete
I lift my eyes and raise my hope

Dark are the passions of my hope
with sorrows eyes I know not, how to cope
The shadows of eternal light

Dark are the passions of my love
with sorrows love I can not dream
I lift my eyes to raise my hope

Gone are the shadows of my doubt
with dreams I see tomorrow shout
The shadows of eternal light

Dark and grey tomorrow, knows no bounds
yet dreams are built on yesterday
I lift my eyes to raise my hope

Gone are the days increasing blues
raised to levels yet unknown
the shadows of eternal light
I lift my eye's to raise my hope

Rhyme battle round four

The Thunder Clouds are Rolling in...

The thunder clouds are rolling in
Midday sky as dark as night
Goosebumps prickle across my skin

It’s now as dark as sin
From the rapidly fading light
The thunder clouds are rolling in

I wish the rain would just begin
And relieve some of my fright
Goosebumps prickle across my skin

I feel the flutter deep within
It fills me with delight
The thunder clouds are rolling in

Oh dear rain, where have you been
I wished for you with all my might
Goosebumps prickle across my skin

Now everything will be alright
I’m so happy I could spin
The thunder clouds are rolling in
Goosebumps prickle across my skin

Before his hands form frost upon my breath

Before his hands form frost upon my breath
And pierce me with his dark immortal night
I plan to play a game of chess with Death

Distant and in the dark he took my Beth
I fear not; but her eyes...this fright I'll fight!
Before his hands form frost upon my breath

Must I intake myself amounts of meth?
To win a match and moments more of light
I plan to play a game of chess with Death

My strategy shall speak of Cain and Seth
And Abel's life, trapping his king and knight!
Before his hands form frost upon my breath

Methinks myself more morbid than Macbeth
My throne is life, fear vanish from my sight!
I plan to play a game of chess with Death

Before my coffins' head is crowned a wreath,
Before my eyes evolve forever white,
Before his hands form frost upon my breath
I plan to play a game of chess with Death

Martyr

Down in deep dark Rwanda you will see
my martyred soul staring you in the face
will you be my savior or will you flee

I call you for help and you say just be
you tell me to wait and stay in my place
down in deep dark Rwanda you will see

why don't you come and at least set me free
my children will stay and keep their own pace
will you be my savior or will you flee

my best friend went on her own killing spree
all I could see was her agonized face
down in deep dark Rwanda you will see

I stood like a petrified dark black tree
stuck in an never ending deep dark haze
will you be my savior or will you flee

all I can offer is a humble plea
please come and stop this never ending chase
will you be my savior or will you flee
down in deep dark Rwanda you will see

Forbid Them Not The Gentle of The Night

Forbid them not the gentle of good night.
Old age welcomes the rest at end of day;
Sweet to tired eyes the dying of the light.

Wise men who know the dark of light is right
Have shared their knowlege with wild youth and they
Go very gentle into that good night.

Good men while young, enjoyed the daylight bright
And have put follies of their youths away.
Sweet to tired eyes the dying of the light.

Strong men who worked while sun was in its flight
Have earned the right to wave it on its way.
They now go gentle into that good night.

Brave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Must shield their eyes from sunlight's brightest ray.
Sweet to tired eyes the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the bright height
Bless me, your child with welcome smile, I pray.
I now go gentle into that good night,
Sweet to tired eyes the dying of the light.

Joyce Johnson 12/26/08

Rsvp to Dylan Thomas' "Do Not go Gentle Into that Dark Night.

Crying Deep in the Dark of the Night

Crying deep in the dark of the night
Only a single tear piercing the skin
A gentle kindness to never-ending plight

The bitter screaming, I try as I might
To drown out the memories with a soft grin
Crying deep in the dark of the night

Desolate thoughts, the blurry images, deluding my sight
Learning to cope with unbearable sin
A gentle kindness to never-ending plight

Peaceful quiet, no yelling or sounds of fight
I wipe the tears from sleepy eyes, holding up high my chin
Crying deep in the dark of the night

Sitting alone, wrapped in blankets real tight
Blinded eyes burning from unseen pins
A gentle kindness to never-ending plight

There you are, with weeping orbs of hidden light
And here I stand, with a single shudder, determined to win
Crying deep in the dark of the night
A gentle kindness to never-ending plight

Road To Home

Wash boardy ruff country roads leading home
Sun dried each day of your long useful life
Over dark green fields no more will I roam

Those dark green fields that are wide leads to wrong
Not warmth, love, understanding, only strife
Wash boardy ruff country roads leading home

Harder to climb, narrower close to home
Nearer, nearer begin to see great sights
Over dark green fields no more will I roam

Drawing, drawing come, long hill top see dome
There are friends, family, offering life
Wash boardy ruff country roads leading home

The fields were greener, there was fun, the songs
Offering entertainment glitter sights
Over dark green fields no more will I roam

Now sights focused on heavenly song
Lights brighter at end of the narrow way
Wash boardy ruff country roads leading home
Over dark green fields no more will I roam
