The Other Side of Winter

(A Villanelle)

The winter’s dismal path is long and gray,
a never-ending march of cheerless dark
with skies whose colors bleach in dull array

where forest scene gives one a true display
and leafless limbs provide a raptors' park.
The winter’s dismal path is long and gray,

and through the open grove a new ballet
of life and death beneath the brittle bark
and skies whose colors bleach in dull array.

A wind unites with rain while leaves decay;
each limb begins to dance a graceful arc
in winter’s dismal path so long and gray

till snow appears and hides the hunter's prey.
New scenes occur of softer landscape mark,
tame skies whose colors bleach in dull array.

Resplendent white now blankets to allay
our thirst for beauty with a lustrous lark.
The winter's dismal path is long and gray,
with skies whose colors bleach in dull array.

Christmas Snow

On wings of swept sky, the dawn’s sun adorns
the shimmering snow in magical light,
from winter’s first snow on snug Christmas morn.

Innocent faces gleam, old are reborn
as fanciful flakes seem to rise in flight
on wings of swept sky, the dawn’s sun adorns.

Powder settles, softening sharpest thorns
as spring’s flowers sleep beneath drifts of white
from winter’s first snow on snug Christmas morn.

Oh, joyous wonder, no past years to mourn!
The hills and trees sparkle like child’s eyes bright,
on wings of swept sky, the dawn’s sun adorns.

Our gifts are unwrapped, the day’s all but worn
and festive flakes frolic well into night
from winter’s first snow on snug Christmas morn.

Through frosty pane, we watched peaceful day born
with glistening nature’s brilliance in sight.
On wings of swept sky, the dawn’s sun adorns
from winter’s first snow on snug Christmas morn.

A Peregrine Falcon

A peregrine falcon masters the sky
its wings majestically arched with flair,
soaring with the elements eye to eye.

In a flurry of speed it flashes by
serenely aloof untethered and rare,
a peregrine falcon masters the sky.

Sunlight gilds feathers as soft as a sigh
flickering flecks that ignite in the air,
soaring with the elements eye to eye.

Naturally nimble graceful and spry
inspiring both audacity and dare,
a peregrine falcon masters the sky.

Riding an invisible thermal high
it swoops me up and then I am there,
soaring with the elements eye to eye.

Like poetry in motion wingtips fly
and awed by its beauty I can but stare.
Soaring with the elements eye to eye,
a peregrine falcon masters the sky.

BEAUTY OF MAGICAL FOREST

• * ) Forest of stars all clad in jade Varnishing buds with hints of cream, As magic weaves through sky’s brocade. * Lucent veil lifts trance of nightshade Garlands tossing my hair, agleam Forest of night all clad in jade. * Leaves dancing, O wings on parade Butterflies reel to catch my dream; As magic weaves through sky’s brocade. ~ Tinsels from grass drip to cascade Such loveliness cruising downstream *Forest of stars all clad in jade. * * Then, pixies dart on rock’s glossed shade My breath enthralled by stardust beam; As magic weaves through sky’s brocade.~ * *) Homeward bound, tasting mystic glade Fey whispers like child-like hours' dream. Forest of stars all decked in jade, ~As magic weaves through sky’s brocade. The Magical Forest Contest of Roger Horsch

If I Were Poor

If I were Poor would You still reach for Me?
Would You offer Me Your Hand to hold?
Would You Heal Me as this unfolds?
Would You offer Me a bath and cleanse Me?
Would You defend Me from Meanness as We see?
If I were Poor would You still reach for Me?
Could You ever just Be seen with Me as I Be?
Could You pray with Me and help Me Sleep?
Could You walk with Me and Show that You care?
Could You cloth Me and show Me You share?
If I were Poor would You still reach for Me?
Should You help keep a roof over My Head?
Should You furnish a room with a bed?
Should You Hug Me and hold Me tight?
Should You Protect Me from a horrific fight?
If I were Poor would You still reach For Me?
The Old Beggar consoled with Two Rich Men that pondered.
The Two Rich Men just walked away and moved on yonder...
Then The Old Beggar cried in Mercy,"I just begged You to try..."
The Two Rich Men showed no remorse and never answered His Cry...
Then The Old Beggar just stopped and stared when He was apposed...
There The Old Beggar turned away with His Beautiful Angel Wings Exposed!

I Changed the verse by inserting a question every verse. Then The Beggar Himself became an Angel that was hidden the whole time the ballad was told.

MEADOW'S ROBE

When meadow flaunts her robe of green
and covers me in tender lace
her perfumed view lights up onscreen.

From mantle wrapped by pure citrine
a peaceful view my breaths embrace,
when meadow flaunts her robe of green.

Cascading dewdrops quite serene,
wheels gently to enshrine my face
her perfumed view lights up onscreen.

A nightingale takes wing, unseen
to pipe last croons within this space,
when meadow flaunts her robe of green.

She glides around like myth's Celine
oh beauty lit by skyline’s grace,
her perfumed view, lights up onscreen!

The newborn dawn will spread its beam
lingering through mild slumber’s pace.
When meadow flaunts her robe of green,
her perfumed air drapes path’s onscreen.

Last night I dreamt

Last night I dreamt, a picture my only inspiration
How the world has changed in the passing of years
The memory even now can lead to temptation

I pass now through my own trial and tribulation
All these things leave me with a multitude of fears
Last night I dreamt, a picture my only inspiration

So vivid and so distinct I could feel the sensation
A happiness that could almost bring me to tears
The memory even now can lead to temptation

I have learned through experience and trepidation
Of the ideal of a person and how then it endears
Last night I dreamt, a picture my only inspiration

Abstraction ultimately needs some cultivation
The congregation of people and their peers
The memory even now can lead to temptation

Everything said right now I still live in jubilation
Enjoying every aspect of the moment jars and jeers
Last night I dreamt, a picture my only inspiration
The memory even now can lead to temptation

BEAUTY IN LIFE SPONTANEITY

Blank pages of life - spontaneous, unscripted, undefined
Experiences uncovers blues and rhymes one couldn't find
Begin to indite, though endings pave unsure and unplanned

Culture, law, ethics and education; man learns and understand
Defining, refining and reminding they try to do to mankind
Blank pages of life - spontaneous, unscripted, undefined

Attempt to break traditions,"outside tries", don't be confined
Falling and committing mistakes will not leave anyone behind
Begin to indite, though endings pave unsure and unplanned

Reach for something in the distance, consider a wise stand
Drench without inhibitions, "LA VITA E BELLA" bear in mind
Blank pages of life - spontaneous, unscripted, undefined

Anxieties, fear, poverty and inferiority they can blind
Yet, live! live! embrace whole life! don't ever decline!
Begin to indite, though endings pave unsure and unplanned

Remember! NOT everyone can be given a fair second chance
Affectionate at heart and sagacious mind, manage to combine
Blank pages of life - spontaneous, unscripted, undefined
Begin to indite, though endings pave unsure and unplanned

A mothers Love- A viianelle for all wonderful mothers

A mothers love is without compare
It will not fail under the hardest test
She gives all but always has to spare

Judgment is witheld from her stare
She knows your situation isn't jest
A mothers love is without compare

Even when she's hurt she will care
Your never a burden, never a pest
She gives all, but always has to spare

A long speech she won't prepare
Mom always knows what is best
A mothers love is without compare

Unconditinal love is so extremely rare
Mom is never counted among the rest
She givees all, but always has to spare

The judging father had better beware
A Prodigal son, by his mother, blessed
A mothers love is without compare
She gives all, but always has to spare

A Beautiful Song Takes Face

A beautiful song he heard in the air
Music in the distance approaching near
He succumbed to the music without care

He didn’t question it no he wouldn’t dare
It sounded as though soon it would be here
A beautiful song he heard in the air

So nice was it that it gave him a scare
Getting closer and closer waiting in fear
He succumbed to the music without a care

The score was very beautiful to be fair
But nothing compared to what did appear
A beautiful song he heard in the air

The beauty he witnessed now could ensnare
To him it became oh so very clear
He succumbed to the music without care

He could spend hours in a single stare
Probably more than hours, maybe a year
A beautiful song he heard in the air
He succumbed to the music without care

Attired in beauty

Beauty lies within the seasons trees
In winter's wrath they stand silently
With outstretched limbs, the wind to seize

Springtime releases them from the deep freeze
As their blossoms sail in the wind freely
Beauty lies within the seasons trees

Summer puts them more at ease
As they wear their gowns of green beautifully
With outstretched limbs, the wind to seize

A butterfly floats on a summer breeze
As a nightingale sings a lovely melody
Beauty lies within the seasons trees

Autumn attires them with with red and golden leaves
With a tune that echoes with melancholy
With limbs outstretched, the wind to seize

Their attire changes in varying degrees
As they await each season patiently
Beauty lies within the seasons trees
With outstretched limbs, the wind to seize
                                  ~~

Diwali- Festival of Lights

Twinkling stars in courtyard light up the sky,
On an absolutely dark moonless Diwali night ,
Sprit of festival comes in alive !

Everyone looks glamorous, in best of attire,
Colourful lights and candles glow bright,
Twinkling stars in courtyard light up the sky !

Warm Embrace puts an end to enmity and satire,
Sets off every mood exactly right,
Spirit of festival comes in alive !

Colour display of crackers, no fight fire with fire,
Exchanging sweets and gifts gain new height,
Twinkling stars in courtyard light up the sky !

Beauty in ideas beyond diamonds and sapphire,
Vast hearty emotions walk in equal delight,
Spirit of festival comes in alive !

Return of Lord Ram to Ayodhya we celebrate,
Worship of Goddess Luxmi, prosperity to plight,
Twinkling stars in courtyard light up the sky,
Spirit of festival comes in alive !

Winter Light

For Joyce

My hands remember your brightness

Your face graces the morning

Lights up the winter darkness

You light up the winter darkness

Common serpents curse winter suns

my hands remember your brightness.

My hands remember your brightness,

the windy blood in song, on a clay harp sung,

You Light up the winter darkness.

Your warmth lights the frosty air

And you, my love basking in pale light

Thinking of you wrapped in sunlight,

My hands remember your brightness,

You light up the winter's bleakness.

From merry green, the dream ascends to Skylands

From merry green, the dream ascends to Skylands.
Comely words of comfort put the comma in the gray;
Hushed roads are dusted with sugar in the sun`s hands.

Hesitating white clouds meet the night`s dark commands,
But bring the dawn`s serenity for the a golden bay;
From merry green, the dream ascends to Skylands

Luminous black jack oak stopped the moving sands;
The winding road might have danced on the hills` clay;
Hushed roads are dusted with sugar in the sun`s hands

Recollections` last wave in the glass blowers` light stay,
Smiling from Spring Lake to Thistle Shimmer`s way,
From merry green, the dream ascends to Skylands,

Pine Barrens` silken grasses are kissed by birds of height,
Chateau Inn looks at the grave laurel and blueberry gay,
Hushed roads are dusted with sugar in the sun`s hands.
In Paradise, rivers flow under Blueberry Month` sight.

The Beauty of His Shield

There’s beauty in His word though we don't see His shield.
Are we caught wand'ring round while others focus in?
Beauty is encountered each time His arm's revealed.

Think you need a coat of mail on your mission field?
Do you require a gauntlet, helmet past your chin?
There’s beauty in His word though we don't see His shield.

Refuse the body armor, with sure fervor wield
the treasured sword of prayer and praise, its mighty twin.
Beauty is encountered each time His arm's revealed.

Though we pray constantly for sickness to be healed,
know there’s joy in suff’ring and find Christ’s pow’r therein.
There’s beauty in His word though we don't see His shield.

When doubt comes upon your mind, do not stop or yield,
leave that villain in the dust, Christ forgave your sin.
Beauty is encountered each time His arm's revealed.

Do not thwart your Lord, by His Spirit you are sealed.
Give Him wreaths of glory, amid the thick and thin.
There’s beauty in His word though we don't see His shield;
Beauty is encountered each time His arm's revealed.

Oh Vulnerable Woman

What a beauty you are!
In this very life, my life!
Oh vulnerable woman!

In your fertile womb,
Precious little life,
What a beauty you are!

Lovely soul takes life bids,
Without hesitation,
Oh vulnerable woman!

Without your weakness,
You would not offer love,
What a beauty you are!

Selfless is your existence;
Yielding self to a small one,
Oh vulnerable woman!

Your delicate body gifted life,
And life gives peace as price,
What a beauty you are!
Oh vulnerable woman!

It's All So Wonderful

It’s All So Wonderful

I love my life, Oh, how I love it all
I see the God of love in everything
Oh, I love beauty. It’s so wonderful

I love the birds; I love to see rain fall
The flowers, and the trees, such joy they bring
I love my life, oh, how I love it all

I love my life, oh, how I love it all
I love the winter, and the summer too
I really love the spring; adore the fall

The power how she loves my soul to call
When morning sun she does always shine through
I love this life, oh, how I love it all

I love this life, oh, how I love it all
I love it how the trees dance with the breeze
I love it how these trees they grow so tall

I love a thunderstorm they’re beautiful
Oh, how it makes my heart feel so at ease
To watch those lightning flashes as rain falls
I love my life, Oh, how I love it all

Buorbon Rose

She blooms along the old stone wall,
the puissant scented Bourbon Rose,
intoxicating one and all.

Tenacious strength, green vines grown tall,
tender pink and thorns juxtapose,
she blooms, along the old stone wall.

Bountiful blush, sweet siren call
when soft summer breeze fragrant blows,
intoxicating one and all.

Upon the street pink petals fall
the path to paradise disclose,
she blooms along the old stone wall.

Delicate beauty fates enthrall,
to each a peaceful place transpose
intoxicating one and all.

Each blossom yearns, so sweet and small
where love’s magical beauty glows,
she blooms along the old stone wall
intoxicating one and all.

Lured By Your Heart

Lured by your heart, I discovered your soul,
an ethereal spark that drew me in,
allowing me to relinquish control.

When first we met, my heart was far from whole,
yet somehow I felt the healing begin,
lured by your heart, I discovered your soul.

Although my future seemed as black as coal,
I believed love was in your heart, not sin,
allowing me to relinquish control.

Past misfortunes exacted a heavy toll,
and though my chances were extremely thin,
lured by your heart, I discovered your soul.

I clung to hope and let the dice roll,
heeding the voice whispering soft within,
allowing me to relinquish control.

I was like an actor without a role,
then suddenly it was my turn to win.
Lured by your heart, I discovered your soul,
allowing me to relinquish control.

Scintillating love

Enchanting scent of roseoil and neroli filled the air
Her heart thumped with excitement sealed for
eternity
Sweet love had bloomed true and fair.
Satin frills and lacy gloves adorned this lady very fair
Warm cuddle and kiss of trust portrayed symbols of unity
Enchanting scent of roseoil and neroli filled the air
His adorable style, her bright smile, his wavy locks, her curly hair
So intense and deep was this blend and angels blessed this love of purity
Sweet love had blossomed true and fair
Displayed their union-crispy themes of pleasure, submission and care
Oath of commitment with emboldened spirit of veracity
Enchanting scent of roseoil and neroli filled the air
Disappeared without any trail behind, the saga of nightmare and great despair
For tides of true love had in their life lashed with fullest capacity
Sweet love had blossomed true and fair.
Diamond ring in her finger added the everlasting feel to this graceful affair
Fertile bonding of two humble souls and loving hearts sans vanity
Enchanting scent of roseoil and neroli filled the air
Sweet lovr had blossomed true and fair.

Tomorrow is Another Day

Tomorrow is another day.
But today God has blessed our sky.
With reds and yellow, such greens and gray.

As light reflects off our desert clay
Such beauty can seldom fill an eye,
Yet tomorrow brings another day.

More than this, we could dare not pray!
Above the color we see so high
With purple and pink, with greens and gray.

Heavens sent such a grand bouquet
Goodness of life can we not deny.
Still tomorrow shall be another day.

In tomorrow, will we find our way?
Can clouds hide: will beauty be shy,
With violet and blue, such hues of gray.

Thankful we are for such grand array,
Today His sky just seems to cry.
Yet tomorrow is another day.
With reds and yellow, such greens and gray.

When Love is Pure

When love is pure, a beauty calls my name,
to see her light upon my guilt and fear,
I hide my heart behind these walls of shame.

I used to think that love was just a game,
and played the best but never drawing near,
when love is pure, a beauty calls my name.

Until the day she took my heart to tame
with gentle kindness, love then became clear,
I hide my heart behind these walls of shame.

In her embrace, my past remained the same,
how can I be worth this, her heart so dear
when love is pure, a beauty calls my name,

In that first kiss my soul released its blame,
her love dried the very last lonely tear,
I hide my heart behind these walls of shame.

Her touch incites my soul to dance in flame,
to enter in the light within her sphere,
when love is pure and beauty calls my name,
I hide my heart behind these walls of shame.

Her Beauty

Was so carried away by her beauty
Yes, physically, but the heart was ugly
Now, I feel so empty.

Though it was quite a shame,
I had to take the blame
For it was all about the fame.

He holds me as flavor to make me his savor

He holds me as flavor to make me his savor

He holds me as flavor to make me his savor
what makes him take me is what makes me wake him,
forever in love to thus far is what makes him my sailor.

Life goes high to make us haler
when our walk of love goes out so dim,
he holds me as flavor to make me his savor.

He takes me with his love and leads me to the river
for me to behold the beauty in the calmness of our dream,
forever in love to thus far is what makes him my sailor.

In the dream of our brim there lies our favor
when our sight is filled with trouble there we rest for a trim ,
he holds me as flavor to make me his savor.

Wherever life takes us till the end we aver
to make our true love the best as we aim,
forever in love to thus far is what makes him my sailor.

Forever we flow and row to be the engraver,
with the beauty of our art though we skim
when things go wrong in each love layer,
forever in love to thus far is what make him my sailor .
