50TH INDEPENDENCE AND YOU

It is fifty now
Yet what a pity now
It is difficult to say how
But at last you can't wait to shout wow!

Prior to independence were dead stones without ears
Ere half their days in a dark world and wide
Dancing to the rhythm of extortionist leadership for years
Wow! thank God for independence to confide

Optimism was our next option
But could nepotism ever let this option function?
creating a pseudo leadership and fellowership in duo
Oh what a pathetic status quo

Still swinging to sweep the days of the traitors
Their songs are wrong for these days
Let's blend their rhythm with our composition
And create a new song for her

Our Twenty-Nine

Our Twenty-Nine
©2012 C. Brent Cloyd

You have been my darling for twenty-nine
Traveling state to state, place to place
My partner, my lover, my valentine.

We’ve had and held on in good times or bad
We’re not rich, nor poor, but our house is full
You have been my darling for twenty-nine.

You brought forth three children into our home
Two have moved away, one remains with us
My partner, my lover, my valentine.

Daring to believe we pursued the wind
We chased dreams, some saw light and some faded
You have been my darling for twenty-nine.

Faith, hope, love, and adventure paved our path
The call to service has been our highway
My partner, my lover, my valentine.

We have known joy and we have known sorrow
But our journey has brought satisfaction
You have been my darling for twenty-nine
My partner, my lover, my valentine.

SYLVIA WAS AN 'A' STUDENT

SYLVIA WAS AN ‘A’ STUDENT
and Alpha woman

The Abyss was bared, and malevolently yawning,
The deep black pit of endless loss to rile
You, and you didn’t know the world was turning;

And you saw the winter trees in mourning
You weren’t short-changed on their willing lack of guile
In the Apollonian myth - your soul was burning.

Telling time too true, that spring was coming,
But you let the yellow sorrow of your bile
Flood the Arcadian dark your soul was scorning-

So, you died, without ever learning
That your Attic grace would give time its shining dial,
You did not know it then, but the world was turning,

The aureole of dawn crept in, to us a warning
We only have our children for a while
The Austrian angst in which your soul was burning,

The sense of happiness missing you by a mile –
In our Aphasian gloom, your words are burning
Up rivers, mountains, roads, with a killing style –
You didn’t know it then, but the world was yearning.
