The Eternal Tree

I am Alive Forever and always Essence Rebirth Renewal
I have earth to ground me I have wind to move me I have fire to cleanse
my spirit I have rain to quench my thirst for growth
I have sun to enlighten me feed me I am my own mother
and an extension of the whole I am Earth wind
rain sun fire I am as old as life and I am as young
as time I am shelter to those who seek me I am a bird a flower and the breath
of the earth itself I am exactly where I want to be I am life
I am first and last the beginning and the end I am one from many
I am what I am I live I grow and I die. I am Reborn unto myself
                                                          I am the great circle
                                                           My limbs know no
                                                           Boundaries; while
                                                           My leaves whisper
                                                           The one truth of the
                                                           Whole through the
                                                           Seasons changing
                                                            Colors that I wear
                                                            Upon my heart's
                                                            Sleeve, I'm home

Out of the Sun

             in the sun
              to long
The skin became the bark of a tree
the soul turning to brittle scars
 for uncaring worlds to see.
             my face
            is a pile of
           old owl bones
sewn into banks of midnight creeks...
even the plump, over ripened ones
no longer look at me...
but if their car was desert flat,
their oil grim reaper black
they'd paint a wormy, water colored smile...
slide it through my barbed wired heart
so long as I could spin the jack...
so I spin it until their potholes turn to satin-
              in the sun
               to long
the mind has smoothed over
like pebbles in Saturn rings..
a forgotten spice in the conversation of life
an hour later the word snuggles up to me

Tomorrow or forever( which ever comes first),
I'll stay wrapped inside
till my skin turns back to ivory
to an easter egg yesterday
to a time of bouncing ball and spinning jack,
when the mind was a great silky nest...
the face a flowered meadow place
where watercolors swirled all day,
the heartworms kept at bay.

I'll stay hidden within the briar,
till the jewels of memories sooth
every scar - every stripe,
the molten knots of cruelty,
till the sweetened fruit reclaims the tree.
until then only my curtains breathe...
       ...stayed in the sun
              to long

Indian Summer

Memories of autumn linger still
The pale sun loiters on the hill;
A prodigal year now grown old
Is gathering all her days of gold.
Flocks of birds now eager to go
We share the dream with footsteps slow;
We meet beneath the apple tree
Join hands in silent company.
We will not part love, oh not yet
Too soon the weary sun will set.

The crickets cease to sing their song
The gold and russet wilt away;
The crimson trees stayed too long
And all the sky is wet and grey.
We know at night the frost will fall
And scar the asters on the hill;
The golden rod and sumac all
Will feel the hand of winter's chill.

But love, it is not the time to part
I need to hold you near my heart;
Yesterday was such a golden smile
Today we might love awhile;
Till autumn dies and love forget
And we must leave, but dear not yet.

Leaves of Trees

O dried up leaf lying there on the ground Fallen from the top of a sturdy tree Where you viewed everything that was around While you bathed in the sunshine's glory You manufactured food from the sunlight And together with the help of the roots Faithfully nourished your parent just right Creating a sturdy tree bearing fruits In spring and summer you wore brilliant green And supplied shade to others from the sun In autumn you became more colourful and before winter dropped off one by one Even now as you lay there on the dirt Nature must move on in its cyclic line You shall soon become a part of the earth And become food for others of your kind

Summer Dreams

Golden goddess up above,
shine down on me rays of love.
Summer dreams, they come to me,
bright white sands on the beach.
Rays of sun that warm my skin,
waves of blue come crashing in.
Sailboats sailing in,
summer breezes, summer wind.
Sandcastles along the shore,
summer rains, they always pour.
Summer dreams they come to me,
children playing on the beach.
Rays of sun that warm the sand,
couples walking, holding hands.
Baby blue summer sky,
summer dreams of you and I.

The Sun Rises- -The Moon Sets

These were set in motion from the beginning of time.
Heavens abound in each of their glory, power sublime.
Every excursion that they set upon revolves in rhyme.

Solar orb that secures life upon this planet we dwell.
Universally seen around our globe, for all to tell,
Never tiring it revolves, captured within its cell.

Rising up from its core, flares of powerful streams.
I respect what has risen from the sunny beams.
Sharing the glory that it has upon everyone, it seems.
Evident by the life that it supports even in dreams,
Solar star of daylight hours continue as nature deems.

Till nightfall approaches while another completes the set.
Helping to guide travelers for centuries the positions to get,
Evening ignites different phases upon this satellites debt.

Monthly revolutions of this celestial body sway the hours.
Orbital bliss has spoken richly along with romantic flowers.
Opening souls in sensuality and fulfilling romantic powers.
New moon to which many have fell into its magical showers.

Splendor of the night as it falls to set upon the new dawns light.
Exemplary versions follow a pattern, which marvels natural sight.
Take notice of what you may be missing each upcoming night.
Said, I’ve heard, old sailors delight, shining, enchantingly bright.

At last
At last we know
He was not always to be
He was not permanent
Not the everlasting punished
Not the everlasting punisher
Not some northern Prometheus
Caught stealing ice and snow
From a northern God’s Olympus

Today I see
See the slush-puddle formed
Where he stood
Where the snowman stood
‘Neath roiling blasted skies
Looking out
Looking straight ahead
With cold blue-crystal eyes

Today I see
See the clear puddle formed
Faintly rippling in the wind
Reflecting VICTORY!
Reflecting sky’s ultimate
Her searing golden eye

The trail of the dying sun

The trail of the dying sun
told me of your tears
and the west wind
brought me your name

The river spoke
of all our fears
the ocean
felt the same

The earth waits to receive your bones
and your spirit be cradled by sky
all we are is dust and thought
dust and thought until we die

This Time of Year

The air is fresh, mornings crisp and clear
God I do love this time of year
Vibrant colors abound on the trees
Gracefully falling with the breeze
The workday runs from sun to sun
Until the "Bringing in of the crops" is done
I am a lucky man to live this life
Respect of my community and loving wife
Sometimes in life the land yields plenty
The blessings throughout the day are many
As I watch the sunrise to the east
It gives my soul a spiritual feast
For all my friends everywhere
To my Lord a silent prayer
To the north her majesty appears
For all to see beautiful and clear
Forever snowcapped and standing tall
Lady Shasta watches over all
To the south another blessing to see
The Sutter Buttes clouded in mystery
It was the Lord that gave them their birth
The shortest mountain range on earth
The coastal mountains to the west
Offers the sun a place to rest
Followed shortly for all to see
The "Harvest Moon" clear as can be
Then comes a moment that is hard
As I head my "Cat" off to the yard
My final ride of this year
My face accepts a single tear
My heart becomes full of sorrow
I inject myself with poison tomorrow
Thats the price that a junkie must pay
Years after he has changed his way
The reason is very clear to see
I put myself "At risk" to hepatitis C
I can't stop the fear from flooding in
What will it be like to hold a rig again
Through all the loss and all the gain
I reckon that moment will bring me pain
But through the pain I'm able to see
God has his angels covering me

The Seasons

The cold weather is breaking its grip on the land,
Tiny bulbs are shooting up and showing their color in the sand.
They look for the heat from the sun to open their leaves,
Just like we do when we roll up our sleeves.

Snow still lingers here and there,
Frost wont give up until the land is bare.
Once spring sets in and the sun gets warm,
You will see young bees gather in their usual swarm.

New buds will appear on the branches of trees,
Soon they will open and show their leaves.
A very bright color ,when the leaves finally open ,
To make the trees look alive as all are hopping.

Light winds are blowing,to help them spread,
As the last dead leave blows off and rest on your head.
Now is the time to pick up broken branches,
That had fallen in winter, and now lost their chances.

Summer is not that far away,
A lot of people wish it could stay.
But its the changing seasons that make this world great,
They even help to put food on our plates.

A long walk in the forest in early spring,
Shows us just what each season brings.
The Lord and his goodness watches over our land,
He shows you His love , when He opens His hands.

Healing Season

Autumn came this summer
on a cool winter's day
Then spring walked in behind her
Then spring soon danced away:
A flower grew beside her
from a freshly fallen pile of snow
And the petals fall onto the ground
shortly after the winds blows:
As quickly as the seasons change
so the same, time does pass
and the memory of frozen ground
is soon your bed of grass:
The time which a flower bares it's bloom
or clouds share their summer rain
Quickly passes with the shifting winds
As it guides away your pain:
My lover spoke just as a friend
As a stranger, then took my hand
As one beginning drew to another end
the setting sun made me understand:
The Earth is not that far around
The sun rises in the day
And as quickly as the lightning strikes
The storm can roll away.

A Kiss of Sunshine

The world that once was slumbering
Beneath the quilt of Winter's snow
Is now set free to gladly see
The rays of golden sunlight

He peeks at first so shyly through
The drifting clouds of leaden grey
And then, behold his beams of gold!
A kiss of gentle sunshine

The trees are budding, flowers bloom
And shades of gentle green abound
The birds of spring so sweetly sing
While kissed by rays of sunlight

How father-like the sun looks down
In glorious warmth and light
To see the things his fire brings --
The miracle of sunshine

From east to west he travells on
In grandly royal golden robes
A pilgrim man, that once began
Benignly sending raylets

As here I watch th'unfolding spring
And bask in beams of heaven's king
I think of monarchs, once divine
Whose wond'rous kingdoms once did shine

This sun hath missed not one poor soul
But fondly with a tender touch
Hath kissed the maids that dwelt in glades
Of distant lands now vanished

Now all, I think, once gently kissed
Have sung the praise of heaven's rays
And all, it seems, that Sun hath wist
Have tracked his run throughout their days

His rhythmic climb and equal fall
While heeding Nature's firmest call
His constant change, yet still the same
When once returned from whence he came

A mystery, a miracle
At times a friend, at times severe
But each new day at Dawn's approach
Reveals the kiss of sunshine

A Changing Heart

Longing for heart-quiet
in the inevitable fall
into Winter’s short days of sun
forwarding to Spring’s
longer days — a circling back
in the sameness of time.

Heart-and-mind-numbing time
with no respite. A longing to quiet
those thoughts playing back
battle after battle. The awful
repetition. Mind and life wasting.
And, in the darkest season,

the conviction that the sun
will only half-rise in this lifetime
of mine. Feeling that sting
as from a bee’s disquiet
of green slumber. Swelling to a fault,
every damned day. Slamming me back,

season upon season. Holding me back.
Chilling me with doubt that sun-
shine can overcome rainfall
and that, invariably, given time,
better times will come and quietly
advance into Spring. Fast forward, past Spring

to Summer, and onto Fall springing
back to Winter, and round again. Flashbacks
ever more glaring under the sun, then, quite
out of the blue — a glance, a nod. Overrun
with fluttering, my heart paces in time
with fledging love’s free-fall.

And, with the passing of another Fall,
Winter heralds in the sweetest of Springs:
daffodils and Easter bonnets — a lifetime
of celebration ahead, no looking back.
Past risk and reason, I bask in the sun
that is love’s shine. Rain or shine, quiet

in the peace of it all, Fall after Fall, back
to Winter, Spring, Summer. Quiet as a Spring sun
bursting through clouds. Love, for all time, requited.

Autumn Colors

The glistening yellow sun shines down upon the golden brown fields harvested today.
Our gardens are cleared of the red, green, yellow vegetables and our canning is underway.
As we look across the orchard the pickers are on the last of the apples to be picked and sold.
The rustic color of the leaves are beginning to furl and we remember that fall has been born again.
As the sun sets it looks as if a fire was set to the orange, yellow, brown, red and green leaves.
A light breeze sets in and we hear a rustle as the leaves drop lazily upon the once green grass, as we drift off to sleep.

Round and round

Round, and round

Round and round, and round it goes
Circles everywhere
Every mystic always knows
This he always tries to share

Life, it goes in circles too
Round, and round, and round, it goes
It don’t mater what you do
That’s the way that all life flows

This be the way that we do grow
The seasons move in circles too
Round, and round, and round it goes
My friends, and really so do you

The moon and sun and everything
They move in circles don’t you know
Those circles back each thing will bring
Round, and round, and round it goes

The last tree

A pretty oak sits outside my window pane in the snow and in the rain
Covered with life, outside the balcony fifty steps away
Decorating the tree with flashes of red, black, grey, yellow and white,
are his friends the cardinals , squirrels , chickadees and the tufted titmice
They sing , chirp, and chatter in harmony of song
As the seasons pass, we live thru heat, drought , cold and rain all year long
I keep my feeder close at hand and watch as they load up in waves of two and three
to make their run at the seeds and grain
The leaves are green now and vibrant with life, in the fall the acorns grow and my tree stands tall
At winter they covet the warmth and provide a shelter for the thick furred grey squirrels
A lovely little hole in the crook of the branch big enough for two to snuggle and borough
They race down these pathways in the sky, playful as skilled acrobats
October mornings the leaves are falling , making noisy whispering sounds
the first rays of sun turn frost into a million twinkling stars on the ground
The two winged take refuge in their nest , built carefully for warmth and rest
To nurse and raise their young , making them fit for another generation of the best
The seasons flow as a quiet pond and like our beautiful life
everything is real with very little strife
Among the colorful citizens of this merry place I give life in equal exchange
for joy and a chance To sit and watch my friends as I grow old and enjoy life in the sun
But life changes, very unfair , and I am denied my playground in the sky
one day some men came and cut all the beauty down
Now its gone all butchered and bare nothing left but a big hole in the ground

Gentle Ripples Passing - Lake Kariba

Water lapping at edge of the boat beneath the silence of the sky
Swaying branches of mopane trees and fish eagles cry
Wind of changing seasons and melting palates of hue
in the blood red sunset glow and murky silvery water blue

Elephants in numbers dot the shores
hippo’s and crocodiles are at the core
of many memories and visions of old
Lake Kariba, in land sea
full of tiger fish and bream

The endless blue that roles into the distance
where the sun rises and falls in panoramic vista
The skeletons of petrified monuments scattered in the sea
forests of pre historic trees swaying in the breeze

It wasn’t always peaceful, tranquil, and still
nature has no chance to relax and withdraw
Scheming and dreaming in the depths of men’s mind

Up Up Up goes the building and climbs
Man made dam, Damn big problem
How could this feet of engineering the power of ages old be so easy
to tame such a wild beast as the zambezi

Animals and people lost in the rising tide
from river, to dam, to lake to inland sea
Great and panoramic became the horizon wide

Like a whisper on the edge of wind
was a grand concert of ages gone by
Played out by wildlife, land, water, and sky

A harmonic existence of sublime serenity
Life here brings closure to one’s perspective
the sent of dust and adventure is quiet infective

The place of the skeleton trees, mountain passes, and copper sun still
where the stars in the universe, scatterings like lost thoughts, visions, and chants chill
across the forging path, that strides through this african wilderness blue
Lake Kariba, the artery of the north, run straight, run true.

- There Will Be A New One -

                            Having wonderful summer memory
                                it warms our hearts long
Summer memories that we can bring back
on the cold windy autumn evenings
Summer memories we can dream of when
                              snow falls during the winter
It will warm our hearts in front of the fireplace
                                  on a cold winter night
Summer memories is a new journey
                                 when one thinks back
Yes, we can almost feel the sun warm and the
                                 smell of beautiful flowers
                          Close your eyes......running barefoot in
                                  a meadow of timothy
Watch the sunset..... sun bathing in the sea
                                         Ah yes.....
Yes, it was quite a summer
After the fall, winter and spring comes summer
again and we can create new memories
that we will take good care of

Change Of Seasons

The earth slips into a deep sleep
all beneath its surface now dormant
sleepy animals curled up in their dens
soon to fall into the sleep of hibernation
all now slowed down awaiting the snows
trees now denude of their canopy of leaves

Jack Frost comes creeping with icy fingers
covering everything in stark bright white
hoar frost, branches sparkling with icicles
softly, come the first snows just a sprinkle
a promise of more, laden sullen skies above
in the morning, a world of brilliant white

Fresh and crisp unmarked by human tracks
just the odd three toed marks of birds
deer trails pass through so distinct
the flash of colour from Red Robin's beast
drifts of snow, some very deep lie in wait
for unwary travelers tempting with beauty

Slowly, oh so slowly the thaw arrives
everywhere a-run with water trickling
now appears the odd patch of faded green
Winter releases her hold with reluctance
fighting to the end, then slips away
leaving Spring to awaken the land with warmth

Now the birds are busy, gathering the twigs
also moss and feathers with some sheep's wool
busily building nests all shapes and sizes
the males preening and showing off to hens
fighting for the rights of lady and territory
the winner, the one who's chicks will be born

Leaves unfurling on the trees reaching out
sun bathed they quickly grow and bush up
to give shelter to birds and tender plants
bulbs now pushing up snowdrops appearing
followed by gay crocus and waving daffodil
finally come the roses, tulips and lupines

All now a splash with colour gleaming in the sun
Summer has arrived with her hot sultry heat
languidly the breezes flow over the landscape
an earth that is now ablaze with vibrant greens
emerald vieing with turquoise, lime and pea green
scarlet beside pink and red, a vision of beauty
pure white of daisies and yellow petals of roses

Too soon, far too soon slowly the nights lengthen
a chill is felt in the air as daylight fades away
leaves start to turn to various shades of brown
then giving up their grip are carried by the wind
plump apples fill the orchards they taste so sweet
corn and other crops are now ready for the harvest

Bare trees now greet us as the days shorten quickly
Autumn drifts gently in, time to light the log fires
to tuck one's self up with a book and mug of cocoa
ponder on the year gone by, the highs and the lows
the cycle of seasons complete for yet another year
life reaffirmed and ready to face whatever is ahead

Song Of A New Season

Gazing out my window screen
I picture fields of gold.
Beholding sights so long unseen
and stories gone untold.
The wonders of Spring unfold.

Sunshine dripping from the sky
and falling on my shoulder.
Flowers giving another try
and squirrels growing bolder-
the earth's another year older.

Easter bonnets soon we'll wear
and dresses made of lace.
Ribbons and flowers in our hair
put smiles upon our face.
Of snow there's not a trace.

Sunshine fills the freshened air
while everyone's delighted.
Buds are blooming everywhere
and butterflies are sighted.
Winter's wrongs are righted!

MY UNIQUE LINE : JSL -------A Day Of Ones In The Sun---

Inundating radiant sunshine beams down on my face fervently tracing crows feet nearing the frown I can taste obliterating tear streaks transmitting them into the depths of outer space introducing an iridescent spectrum of piercing waves golden ears fear in the race Electromagnetic oscillation inspiring me to rely religiously upon solar energy photosynthesis eradicating unwanted toxins by chasing them vehemently So on this sacred date of "ONE"… negative energy is trumped by the positive tsunami of the sun and as she dares me to stare into her face of grace ninety three million miles away… I sigh as her radiance blasts my face in such a merciful way suddenly my shaking knees give way to an epiphany that this day is laced with sanctity Finally the world's eyes feast upon an auspicious uniformed alignment five ones standing side by side gold adorned a spiritual aspirant making change the world will see... "The Sun's Seven" pronouncing a unified spirituality

It's mid-summer again with its mild and moist morning,
Soon whisked away by the mid-day sizzling breeze.
The gorgeous wildflower drinks of the sun's offering,
While butterflies sip of the lily blossom's wine on the lees.

Mid-summer is a time when love beads of rain cool the air;
The gentle beat of its falling seem a song of beneficence.
Then using the rainbow with his incomparable epic flair,
The Great Poet punctuates this grand verse with elegance.

As the birds are resting from their morning serenade,
They now allow the cricket its course at center stage.
The songbirds are cooling their throats in the shade,
Letting the hot sun with its prickling heat fiercely rage.

As the summer sun begins to appear as sweet red lips,
Like a dessert of refreshing sugared berries before me.
The evening breeze cools and my brow no longer drips,
As my eyes grow heavy and I dream of the new day to be.

Crape Myrtle Tree

Crape Myrtle tree, a beautiful sight
Blooming in summer as days turn warm
Purple petals fall, a visual delight
Crape Myrtle tree, a beautiful sight
Delicate blooms, soaking up light
Flowering in splendor with unique charm
Crape Myrtle tree, a beautiful sight
Blooming in summer as days turn warm

Flourishing tree, reaching to sky
Summer sun sizzles, beauty remains
Lush branches touch birds flying by
Flourishing tree, reaching to sky
Sunshine streams through clouds on high
Children seek shade in wind song refrain
Flourishing tree, reaching to sky
Summer sun sizzles, beauty remains

October's Crown

The growing dusk draws this fall day to term.
October crowned in warmth and brilliant light.
The sun across it arc shines to confirm,
that these fall days be passionate and bright.

Heroic are the colors autumn wears.
Yet, soon its rich-hued robe will fade away,
to know the sting of winter's icy airs.
We wish our coldest season would delay.

The gleanings of these golden days are rich.
We hold such gifts within our hearts, sublime.
Nostalgia is the providence from which
we warm our souls the span of winter-time.

Stand firm through dormant seasons, sharp and cold.
Soon warmth will grace spring's light to be extolled.

The Defiant Tree

Oh, natures tree, how are you blooming, When Winter is arriving so coldly? With colors so vibrant, how do you reflect the dimming light, so boldly? Were you confused by the sun that rises too early, or conflicted by the manipulation Of season? Or defiant, to natures authority, and just decided to create Your own reason? Buds blooming, with a brilliant color. . Branches Reaching to skies with absent sun rays; Surrounded by browning and wilting Life; Yet your brilliance, Your beauty, and Loveliness stays? Oh, Valiant tree, why bloom now? When all that's Left here is the rain? Darkly tinted shades Of grey, Dying life Laid at your roots. . And yet, you're blooming All the same. Your golden hints of Sunshine Though clouds fill The sky . . Your branches' room For lovely birds, And yet, they all have Passed you by? And still you bloom, Defiantly. Growing with nothing But self desire, Detesting before, As natures core, But my soul Will forever admire

Seasons of the Sun

The Seasons of the Sun ©

angle of fall’s sun
so different from spring’s rays
dapples the sun porch

end of hot summer
the crisp, sharp tang of fall’s breath
smokes the air about

a waiting for sleep
under the blanket of snow
until spring sun beams

Summer creeps in with
Unwavering heat beating down
Merciless upon face and core
Minds racing thinking of
Every way to stay cool
River rafting, wading in cool water with
Some cold lemonade or iced tea
Ocean breezes, salty water
Lapping at your heels while the
Sultry hot summer days cause
Trees to stand so silent
In the hazy summer air as the
Countryside is bathed in a brilliant sun
Engaging all in summer fun
