Gentle Summer Rain Art

Featuring:) Giorgio Veneto

She writes about Fall's beauty in the rain
The falling raindrops' dance ascribing thence
Bespoken verse that lightens her refrain
before the time they met - her steps commence.

She listens to the soft and rhythmic thrum,
her love turned to escape and cloudy string
Where nimbus mistletoe fell, tears to become
Their kiss of Autumn was symbolic ring.

The first light cotton mists with summer rays
While skyward cheerful laughs adorn the land,
their ceremonial dance diffuses grays,
affectionate embrace, where dreams expand.

Upon September's sky the raindrops gleam
With half of hidden Sun to laugh and beam.

A Shady Tree

I know its the summer time because of how naturally
Your beauty compliments the caress of a summer breeze
As I watch the world from beneath a shady tree
I take in the delightful comfort of everything I see
But in the same breath I am holding up my hands
Lord will you please give me back the things I no longer have
They are even more a part of me now that they are gone
As the sun falls below where the horizon is still holding on
Somewhere between the falling light and a star lit night
Is a dream that last forever and will never say goodbye
As the wind gently blows through the brush and shakes the leaves
It begins to hum a melody that I want to sing
At that very moment I smile for all the joy I have
Its so uplifting for me to see melancholy dance
Soon the morning sun will rise and capture my eyes
As I watch the hand of God paint a brand new sky
With every stroke of color I swallow all my pride
And I find a new place to dream of endless times
If I should ever get to the place I left my broken heart
Only then will I believe this brand new day will start
Again Im reminded of why my heart beats so restlessly
Only the speed of thought and my soul beneath this tree

Silly isn't it

It's silly isn't it?
That I could fall for you so easily
And you not give two shits?
You spoke your drunken words
And admitted to always loving me
It was the best thing I had ever heard.
When we hung out soon after
And I left you with a kiss
I didn't think the feelings mattered.
But as we spent time apart
I realized it wasn't the same
You had won my heart.
I got drunk and spilled my words
And you said you still felt the same
I was happier than a bird.
We made plan after plan
You always fell through
I felt like a speck of sand.
You told me you were trying to get a girl
I smiled and bared the tears
I had hoped to be the girl.
You soon stopped replying
I started to break down
I was almost done trying.
But no not tonight
I got drunk and spilt more words
I hope I did what's right.
I thought we were the perfect fit
I fell for you so hard
But, that's silly, isn't it?

Ana

She writes her songs and her poems,
not one person know 'em.
She listens to the sound of her music,
she's stuck to it like a tick.

If someone took the time to listen,
her true colors would glisten.
She's put on a mask,
and hid everything when someone asked.

She was the type of girl who would always laugh,
making you wish it would last.
She was the type of girl who would smile the day away,
too bad it is no longer that way.

She is now the girl who is depressed,
I bet you're impressed.
Since no one could tell
that she was going through hell.

Everyone thought she was happy,
when really, she felt crappy.
Everyone thought she was having the time of her life,
who would have guess her best friend was a knife?

She spent her days alone,
she seemed to do everything on her own.
Never once wanted help.
Thought she could do everything herself.

Then the day came,
when she lost the game.
She fell apart,
and everyone saw her broken heart.

They saw the way she overreacted.
Oh, if only you saw the way she acted.
She bruised herself, scratched herself, and made herself bleed,
no one knew what it was that she needed.

They saw her tears,
and that was what she feared.
They found out she wasn't okay,
oh, she hated that day.

Everyone found out about her secret,
and she wish they'd just forget,
but she knew they couldn't,
and that they wouldn't.

She left that town and started over,
no one knew she went undercover.
She said she got better,
when really... something else occurred.

She secretly hurt herself,
and walked away from help.
Everyone thought she recovered,
when really, she was undercover.

She secretly wanted to get worse,
no one knew of course.
No one cared to ask,
if she was wearing her mask.

Now it's too late,
she locked the gate.
Killed herself,
everyone had forgotten she needed help.

Goodbye cold world,
this was a story of a girl
who once loved everyone
then feared who it was who won.

Jennifer Part 3

She has so much pain inside of her,
she doesn't know how to address it.
So she turns the pain into anger,
after she explodes, she becomes quiet.

She goes up to her room, upset.
Why does the world hate her so?
She thinks to herself, “That’s it!”
But in reality, it isn't though.

She lies on her bed,
Pulls out her book and reads.
As she turns the pages, she loses her head,
In her mind, she thinks “This is what I need.”

A place to escape the world,
Somewhere she can run.
For it seems everyone hates this girl,
And nothing she does is fun.

She plays her cello
And loses herself in the music
She does this when she feels low
Then she plays the song of her pick

She listens to the beat she makes,
Trying to make it sound perfect,
But oh, she keeps making mistakes,
She thinks that she will never get it.

She leaves the cello alone
And watches her shows
She then grabs her phone
And tells her best friend the show as it goes.

She leaves the TV on,
Then she enters her laptop.
She stays on till dawn,
She just can’t seem to stop.

She loves the idea of leaving the real world
And entering an imaginary one.
That’s the story of the girl,
Who is never done.

End of summer for sure - Version 1 - Sad

Looking out my window this 38 degree morning
I saw that:

The bushes are weighted down
with the moisture;
the droplets on the verge of
morphing into ice;
hunkering against the cold.

The weeds are dead and stiff
with the end of a dry season;
now wet, turned into intensely
deep shades of brown
and ochre.

The tall un-mown grasses
are matted down
by fallen leaves,
saddened by season's end
and wet with shiny tears.

Can you feel me

Feel me standing there
on the draw bridge
that stands stubburn and erect
over the rushing waters blown by the wind
back and forth.
I listened to the crows
posted on gargoils designed
of eightenth century Gothic architecture
singing their death songs,
when the sun is setting in the far.

The voices of women passing
startle me with a feeling of sorrow
I can't breathe, I am dying.
Feel me, can you feel me rot away?
Slowly but surely rot away
as time passes with ease,
and taxi cabs take smiling, intoxicated faces
to wayward cafes, oh how they screech to a halting stop
and wave to me to get in.

"No thank you, I'd rather walk." I say to the smiling faces
highly intoxicated with the thought of the birds and the bees
rattling around in their empty minds.
Then they drive off, into the city lights and turn a darkened corner.
I look at the rushing water
and feel myself rot away
slowly but surely rot away.

Can you feel me?
Can you hear me?
Can you see me?
Feel my heart thump with slow paces
that manage to keep up with fast melodies.
Of songs that play in your mind
only the ones that make you sigh
and think those one days in Spring time
as you walked over the draw bridge
and paid no mind to the water underneth.
I hear no more talk of you and me, I hear no more talk
of the good old times we all shared.
Time has passed, as I take my last breathe
and hold my chest and shead a tear.
Feel me, can you?
If you can, put your hand to my weak heart
and feel it thump away with every second wasted
on useless items.
Now, see me a man of one time greatness
reflect his life with a reflection in the water below.
How I sigh and cry and breath heavely,
as I feel myself rot away.

The voices of woman pass me by.
Tomorrow is a new day,
for the smiling faces in taxi cabs will go home
and soak their raging hangovers with cool, wet rags.
As I still stand on the draw bridge singing with the crows,
feeling myself rot away.

Can you feel me without you, rotting away?
I surely can feel myself rot.
Such a heavy word, "rot"
So vulgare, yet a great description of me,
without you.

I pull out a shawl you once wore and I kiss it.
As the wind gusts and the sun rises and my shadow
comes to meet me, the wind shall take my last memory
of you away.
And I shall weep no more.
Then what will I do? Shall I walk the streets
and think of you.
Yes you, still rambling all throughout my head
like a lose screw.
Can you feel me? Feel me rot away
feel me think about you, and all your works.
Can you feel me?

Daybreak

I wake on the sand
Right near the beach
You have yet to awake
Far out of reach
And Daybreak has arrived
A beauty unlike any other
Comparable only to us, girl
And how we love each other

So I gaze up alone
Marveling up at the sky
The warmth of the sun
Drying my eyes
I'm reflecting on us
Oh how each other we trust
I'm just so happy we're together
And I think to myself,
Just as this sun, we'll last forever

Then returning to be with you
I lay again now
Place my hand gently
On your warm tender shoulder
While I think of our lives today, love
And how they'll be when we're older...
I know there'd be no other way
So "I Love You" I make sure I say
To you, each and everyday

Debutant's Lament

Summertime…they say the livin’ is easy,
Flowers growin’ and the sun’s sittin’ high.
They say your Daddy’s rich and your Momma’s so good lookin’;
So hush now pretty baby…there's no reason to cry.

One of these days, you’re gonna rise up smilin’.
Take a look around and think you’ve got it all.
You’ll have your Momma’s looks, all your Daddy’s money,
And all the boys in town at your beck and call.

Summertime…Yes, the livin’ is so easy,
Laughin’, singin’, havin’ so much fun.
No time to stop and think about your future
And what life will bring when your Summer’s done.

‘Cause Summertime, it don’t last forever.
Breezes cool and the leaves begin to fall;
And in your quiet moments, you'll sit and wonder
How you came so far, but have no love at all.

Summertime....They said the livin’ was easy;
Ain’t it sad how fast the good times fly;
And now, your Momma’s looks and all your Daddy’s money
Another sweet, warm Summer’s day they cannot buy.

Holding on to summer days

Invisible bars on my window sill
Summer breeze set me free
Popping seaweed bubbles on the beach
Screaming out but never heard

Summer breeze set me free
Beach sticks on a shard of glass
Screaming out but never heard
Innocence being swept away

Beach sticks on a shard of glass
My Baby self never was
Innocence being swept away
Holding on to summer days

My Baby self never was
Invisible bars on my window sill
Holding on to summer days
Popping seaweed bubbles on the beach

Just one More Glass

Just one more glass to quench her thirst thirst of a desert nearer to sea she ordered for another glass she was just on a drinking spree. Thirst of a desert nearer to sea so close to it, yet so far she was just on a drinking spree to forget her pain,to remove her scars. So close to it, yet so far to touch the sea was not easy to forget her pain,to remove her scars again to get that happiness key. To touch the sea was not easy drinking her pain with every glass again to get that happiness key "Another .. g l a s s!",ordered the lass. Drinking her pain with every glass to delete her past as much she could "A n o t h e r ...g l a...!"ordered the lass as glass was only her escape route. To delete her past as much she could at least for this summer night as glass was only her escape route her mind was now a flying kite. At least for this summer night she ordered for another glass her mind was now a flying kite just one more glass to quench her thirst. ========================= Contest:And with a sip Sponsor:Paula Swanson

Searching for Summer

Nasty old winter is getting me down
I'm looking for summer all over town

I lift up a blanket of snow off the ground
Sadly there is no green grass to be found

My very next stop I'll go down to the beach
With waves and sand summer may be in reach

The lake is solid like a piece of glass
No sign of summer I'm freezing my ass

Summer summer reveal yourself to me
Sun warm my face place leaves on a tree

Hey wait a minute is that a red Rose?
I pick it up, place it under my nose

I'm so sad to say, the rose isn't real
You can imagine how sad I now feel

My search is over I know when I'm licked
As I head home I'm feeling real ticked

I see a young woman walking my way
Wearing a bikini on this cold day

A glimpse of summer my heart starts to race
I'm confused, yet there's a smile on my face

Tragic Feather

Oh, tragic feather what is thy tragedy
No longer freedom gay or certian loft
How is this thy new translation
From a majesty, unto a wing thou hath mighty dropped

Were thou thus, shunned, cast away
Or merely, cut out or off
As limb from downward spiral angel
Perhaps, a troubled finch or insanity in wayward hawk

Lie, if thou must, be it amidst a deafening silence, lonesome soft
But, I plead, please tell me fallen feather, what hath befallen thee
Thy tuft to ne’er evermore touch again
What life should be, warmth of the summer's breeze

Sleep, sleep now 'neath the alley's gutter greys
Catching Weeping Willows damning drops
Adrift as the drowning lily dying
In seas of the myriad scattered rots

An accomplice I shall say, within a winter's willing white
And alas, buried ordinary in this doth the corpse delight
Far beneath the crowds held at bay and forever lost
Now thou hath become the naked grove of wicker and then...
the more of naked souless crops

Yesterday's Summer

Summer

A lovely day that brought for series of endearing moments -

From the boat ride on the sea shore to the horizon of wide blue-green ocean
His eyes wander- like a fisherman’s hope-
Waiting, counting, and watching in close detail every scene to observe
The waves touched the wooden paddle with astray -strong hump.
His hand grips mine, a careful touch of comfort
I guess he was scared from the uncertain buoyancy of water waves to balance.
Then he gazed up as if trying to catch the approaching sunlight beam
and inhale in deep gratitude for the next tides were about to catch.
My Heart stops—and beats aloud.
I was astonished for a moment, captive by the boy,
How he become someone new- Someone who attracts vulnerability of natures beauty and deceitful threads on fear of the unknown.
Should I smile dearly to hide my amusement?
Or let the clear blue waves mirror the admiration of my heart?
I let be.
Reaching an island of hopes and wishes,
We walked to discover what lies beneath.
I found the lovely pebbles by the sand then collectively picked each purely form corals
He told me- These could mean more than the Jewelry I have to treasure.
He- then, found a solid rock formation from the mountain floors-
I told him, this shelter can make you feel haunted and home
And we laugh with ambivalent for our mischief.
By noon we swim with the fishes
And patiently waits for the sunset to kiss his lovely sea,
just like how it kissed our skinned to tanned.
He leaned and gave me embraces as the sky slowly turned
to a beautifully lighted darkness-
I felt warmed, and secured by his unexplained gestures.
He lie next to me, as He count my wishes as a cursed
To the stars that have to sacrifice and die.
I told him- not to worry about the dying stars instead live gazing up to thank them every night, and he smiled forcefully.
And we slept together through the calm sea sand bed..
He was all with me in an island of yesterday’s summer
He was completely there, before I close my eyes,
Before the wind blows cold, before the sunsets turned grey-
And my ashes returned to seas.

Paper Thin

Your paper-thin porcelain skin,
I know how to get right under it.
For kicks is why I do it now.
You tell me to love but I never knew how.
Our feet hitting pavement,
We spent the day in sunny California with sun kissed skin.
I’m learning to forget and how to fade scars,
And you let me let myself down so hard.

Your paper-thin porcelain skin,
I know how to get right under it.
And now I just do it for smiles,
We’ll never see flower girls stumbling down aisles.
I’d lose my head just before that chance,
But if you want we can still have a first dance.
Cause I think I say things that I don’t mean,
Once upon a time you meant the world to me.

Your paper-thin porcelain skin,
I know how to get right under it.
But I’m trying to refrain,
To make this not all end up in vain.
Maybe I can learn to love like some people do,
And you can learn to love yourself a little too.
Or it is in all fairness to let this go?
I guess we can try but then we’ll never know.

Goodbye my Summer Love

Though the midnight summer rains
as we sit together under the geraniums,
hanging low and at full bloom,
we hold hands and talk of old times;
times that were kind to us and our youth.
As summer storms light up the night skies
We kiss the storm away, as it rolls through the grey skies
and the lighting cracks the clouds in half,
riping a hole in the universe, as we kiss the night away.

We sit throughtout nightlong summer dreams
and talk, and we hear the storms roll into the golden hills
of summer meadows filled with roses and a field full of daisies.
Love rests in time to see us grow old together,
and love strengthens its walls and pulls us closer together.
We shall go now, as day turns to night,
into our chamber of love and sleep the night away, together.
Hold us close to each other, as I rest my head on you sweet bossom,
and you nurture me to life of talks of love and beauty.

Nature whispers and sings us songs,
as we kiss and go for walks through the countryside
looking at the golden hills soaked in the rolling storms
that summer offers every year, upon a silver platter.
Sooth me, my love as I tell you of the sorrow I have witnessed.
Embrace me with your curiousity and tell me of the beauty in
the secrets of life and its hidden messangers
that hold secret letters from Devils that send temptations
to destroy something that we share, that is so beautiful and true.
Tell me that life will be okay, and my love is still true and with you.
Tell me my sweet and beautiful love, tell me if everything will be alright.

Love has seen us come and go, through the narrowed and sprinkled streets,
as we move through life fused at hands and eyes blind, not noticing the possiblities of death at any moment stalking us with knives jabbing at our backsides.
We are blind, for we see each other and only each other.
As we live life eyes a blazed looking at the sun, we do not notice the obvious between us.
Caring from me, at my time of need I never noticed the betrayal of our love.
My heart sees, but I deny the obvious and see what I hear.

As I see the knife drive deep in my heart,
you with a suitcase in hand,
I stand on my front steps and I watch the summer storms
come back over the golden hills to say, "hello"
Love is the same everytime, like a summer storm;
beautiful to watch, but when it leaves, it is depressing to say, "goodbye"
Now I sit, as the geraniums dry up and die
and the wrinkles at my eyes make me blind,
I see love walk past my house and mock me with lone kisses.

Death, it is a sad way to go

Death, it is a sad way to go,
to leave this earth, dressed in your Sunday best
While faces surround you with tears
breaking the barriers of their emotions
tearing their hearts apart, looking down
upon my stone face, upon the face, lays a simplistic smile
that shows no emotion, no teeth, no life.
Death, it is a sad way to go.

People hurry, say their goodbyes,
but when your alive,
they never come around, they never call, they never even think
of you and how you are feeling.
While you walk the streets, with a smile on your face,
nothing but knives stick sharpe in my back and gossip
burns a hole in my soul and heart;
but I keep on walking and smiling.
I keep rolling on through like a summer hurricane
tears apart a coastal city in the heat of June weather,
Walking till death comes to shake my hand and grin at my soul.

Then as you lay their in your casket
with a buqouet of your favorite flowers, (Roses and Tulips)
they sit around you, the same faces, the same blind eyes
and they all shed tears and says good things.
Too late for that don't you think?
Death, it is a sad way to go, but what relief you get,
when finally departing in peace and leaving the drama
and careless people in your life.
After I am put six feet under, a week of crying passes,
After two weeks I am lost and long forgotten,
nothing but a stone at my cranium to keep me company
and my new friends, who sleep along next to me.
Dead and forgotten, but the dead never forget their fellow lost souls.
Only the living forget such souls that were so good to them,
now they are gone,
I am gone.
How do you feel, now that I am gone?

Death, it is a sad way to go, but what peace you recieve in Paradise.

Summer Steam

Thinking back now my dreams are eerily reminiscent
Of every mistake I made in my decent.
Of every joke and priceless muse,
Every smile that she gave me, as her mind I perused.

I hate summer, it never gave me hope or want,
‘Till she came in, giving me memories that still haunt.
The sight was so familiar, an air of innate grace,
The mix of unrefined Circean beauty, painted so perfectly on her face.

Oh, Wanton lust, adoration unbound,
Betraying my every move, I could never gain ground.
It happened, we happened, the unceasing desire was filled,
But with a single mistaken word of betrayal, my fate was sealed.

Still I wish for it, to take back that un-kept promise,
To return to her, what she readily gave to me, a glimpse of solace.
What takes years of readiness, sometimes a lifetime to find,
I had for just one moment and then left it behind.

This reoccurring dream keeps telling me that I shall never find,
Not one moment of hearts peace, no more placation of mind.

Distant African Nights

Those Distant African Nights...

1.

The shadows swayed in your candlelit room,

a cool breeze teasing your bare back,

streaks of lightning forked in the Johannesburg night,

as my hands stroked your hair,

kissing your soft mouth,

holding you,

ever so tight.

2.

You whispered that you loved me,

and I kept silent,

the rain fell,
shadows danced,
thunder rolled,

the breeze teased your naked back,

you whispered that you loved me,
as my lips found yours,

the rain washed over our tender nights,

lightning and candlelight,

etching poems on your burnished skin,

yet,

a fear gnawed at me,

deep within.

3.

We parted ways,
and you could never forgive me, you said,

now, after numberless thunderstorms,

the rain that falls,

echo the countless tears that I have shed.

4.

You are long gone,

far away,

happy, I pray,

yet the memories persist,

those precious moments shall never,
ever,

like the Jo'burg rains,
trickle away,

and I wish you well,
for loving me as you did,

for it was I who was not worthy,

then,

and it is I who is not worthy,

now...

5.

You were always true,

it was I who always,

always,

refused to,

to give myself,

completely to you.

"A Dark Day in Summer"

The darkest time for me would be loosing my Dad...
That day chills me forever as my heart is still sad...
A summer day like every other, but didn't see the
horror I would discover...
I walked into my parents house to help my Dad
carry some boxes from the porch...
And there he lay on the floor cold, as my
soul was like a blown out torch...
I quickly called for help and knew the next phone
calls would change my families lives...
To this day its still hard to call my Mom at work,
not knowing if my voice brings back her cries...
We all became closer as the family pulled together
as one and I am forever proud
for I will always be his Son....

RETURN TO THE CITY

Grass clings to our arms,
And sweat-lines of dirt,
Nestle in the folds of our necks.

The sun beats down on crew-cut heads,
And bare feet are cooled,
In the tub that waters the cows.

Our playground of trees and fields,
Unchanged since we arrived,
Makes summer’s end unthinkable.

Then comes the morning when all is packed,
And a cloud of dust masks a last view of paradise,
Once visible through the car‘s rear window.

Moving from road to highway,
Greens fade to gray,
And pastures and trees yield to asphalt and cement.

Bricks and mortar replace wood and nails,
As cookie-cutter buildings,
Blot out the sun.

Our arms sense a chill,
As the shadows grow long,
And without fanfare, it is fall.

Some Romantic Afternoon

Some Romantic afternoon,
I will hear that haunting tune,
The one that I would softly croon,
By a lagoon.

We'd go sailing on a summer breeze,
So serene such a scene of bliss,
Now it all seems just a myth,
Like Brigadoon.

Sometimes I dream of Southern Spain,
I see those sweet sweet streets again,
My youth has gone forever,
Not to return,

Sometimes I can't control the tears,
How they burn my eyes,
As I look back
On those lost years.

Some Romantic Afternoon,
I will hear that haunting tune,
The one that I would softly croon,
By a lagoon.

Summer School

One year I went to a summer school.
And there was a girl there
With shining eyes and
An award winning smile.
She was kind to everyone and
Excluded no one.
She always laughed with others
But you could go to her when you
needed it.
We talked for hours and
Quickly became friends.

Last year I went back to summer school.
The girl was still there.
She had sad eyes but
Kept the award winning smile.
She was kind to everyone yet
Excluded herself.
She never laughed properly
But you could always go to her
when you needed it.
We talked for mere minutes and
I guess I lost a friend.

This year when I went to summer
school
The girl was no longer there.
Rumours of suicide surrounded
Her name
And no one was kind to us all.
Everyone excluded their-selves.
Silence consumed every thought and moment
Because no one was there when we
truly needed it.
Memories of talking haunted me and
I couldn't help but miss my friend.

Break Up

This is the part where I open the door,
Give him a kiss, and say goodbye.
Knowing that our love is almost no more.
Knowing that tomorrow I will try not to cry

Give him a kiss and say goodbye
Let his headlights fade into the warm summer night
Knowing that tomorrow I will try not to cry
The next time we speak our words are lit by cell phone light

Let his headlights fade into the warm summer night
And I will remember his voice, till once again he is mine
The next time we speak our words are lit by cell phone light
I put down the device, and tell everyone that I'm fine.

And I will remember his voice, till once again he is mine
But slowly, ever so slowly, my hope is diminishing.
I put down the device, and tell everyone that I'm fine,
That its a sad movie that I was just finishing.

But slowly, ever so slowly, my hope is diminishing.
He looks at me with a hardness in his eyes
Like in the sad movie I was just finishing
Where two lovers said their eternal goodbyes

He looks at me with a hardness in his eyes,
I know that our love is no more
Where two lovers said their eternal goodbyes
This is the part, where I open the door.

Misunderstood

Praying, trying not to let my enemies
break me. Same stuff but just a different
day for me. Not the type to write roses are
red violets are blue. Because I feel like
nobody understands me but you. Asking
myself why are people using me. If my
heart had lips it would scream out stop
abusing me. I wish people would just
listen on what I had to say. Instead they
make fun of me and point fingers and
send me on my way. Don't let my
appearance fool you I may smile but it has
strain, hiding all my tears and the pain.
So Misunderstood

A Sad Southern Summer

Oil contaminating the Gulf and the shoreline
Dead wildlife is not hard to find
Boom here and boom there
Boom floating everywhere

Life will never be the same
A sad situation and BP is the blame
A loss of culture and a way of life
A sad way for wildlife to die

It's a sad southern summer here
The people have many fears
The road to recovery is very long
Help us God to stand strong

O' The Summer Breeze

O' the summer breeze
Cool and satisfying winds
A soothing whistle

O' the summer breeze
Now gone, for winter is here
O' the frosty winds.

Good Things Come

The bones of an animal
Who died in the cold
Have dried in the sun
Only a month or two old

Long Summer Days Soon

She had a baby
today. She's only sixteen.
Long summer days soon.

All of This Education and No Summer Vacation

All of this education
And yet no real
Summer vacation.
I recall all of my
K-12 years
9-12 especially
That was the essay
Question that I often
Hated. Where did you
Go this summer?
I didn't leave Monroe.
Hearing that question
Over and over again
Each year filled my heart
With drear and tears
Wanted to fall
But I had to be tough
Hold those tears up
Build my imagination
And lie about the places
That I wanted to see
Across the nation.
I write I went from
Sea to shining sea
To see historical beauty
Of Washington, D.C.
To view the presidential
Library of JFK in Boston,
Massachussetts,
I was truthfully speaking
When I was in downtown
New Orleans eating po-boys
And tasting bananas foster.
I went back to a lie
To the city of brotherly love,
Philadelphia,
Named by one of my favorite
Scientific statesmen,
Ben Franklin.
I want to travel past
The southern region
From the East coast
To the West coast
For real instead of
Telling a story.
I've worked hard
To gain an education
I want to travel the
Nation on a summer vacation.
I will say today that
I have all this education
and no summmer vaction
I want it to change
Starting this year.
My traveling from
Sea to shining
Sea is near.
