Above The Clouds

Above the clouds, I long to be
Among the other things I see
Where I can stand and shout out loud
Here I stand, above a cloud!

Where whispy trails of jets in flight
In blue skies, patchwork quilts of white
While here below I am, a grain of sand
As people travel from a far off land

Above the clouds on a pitch black night
The moon peeps out to share his light
The stars still seem to find a way
To dance around the cloud's display

I'm amazed at the ability of man
To send satellites soaring, like they can
Above the clouds and far beyond
Like they posses a magic wand

But, most majestic of them all
Is that snowy mountain top so tall
Where I can stand and shout out loud
Here I stand, above a cloud!

Confusion

~Confusion~ The sun kisses my fresh washed cheeks It’s warming on my face The breeze rustles my just brushed hair The mist disappears, its fingers leaving a wet trace. The birds start to sing They are late it’s already past dawn The insects start to buzz On this fresh brand new morn… We are happy to awake A new day to explore New challenges we take As we exit through our door. A chance to do good or bad The choice is up to you To be happy or be sad Or spread a smile or too. The pink fingers of cloud in the east Mean red sky in the morning Will the old saying come true? Is this a shepherds warning? As the sun set in the west Only sunset just last night The red sky was at its best That should mean shepherds delight… Is it shepherds warning or is it shepherds delight? Now I am so confused, is it morning still or night? Is it going to be fine, or are storms on the way? I wish the bloody shepherds would make their minds up today.

Peaches and Cream

She was looking my way, I had nothing to say,
Though I'd dreamed that this day would transpire;
With her beaux all around, why would she look at me
With such interest and playful desire?

She was heading my way, what on earth would I say
To the prettiest girl in the town?
And how could I bear all her sunshiny hair
Or her eyes, speckled golden and brown?

I thought, "This is the one! Mercy, here comes the sun!
If I stare, I shall surely be blind:
Though I be somewhat plain, if she choose to remain
I'd be last in the county to mind."

Then my eyes turned away as she sweetly did say
Pretty phrases I cannot recall;
And I mumbled replies, though they might have been lies,
Since I cannot remember at all.

Of that bright day in May but one thing I can say,
She was dressed in a soft yellow gown;
'Twas a lemony hue that was buttery too,
And with eight shiny pearls buttoned down.

Then I asked if she'd dance at the Cunningham's manse,
At the ball on the fourteenth of June;
She replied, "Oh, how good! Yes, I certainly would;
And I hope I shall talk to you soon."

What a wonderful day! Still with nothing to say
I just whistled an old happy tune;
Having primrosy dreams of sweet peaches and cream
As I counted the hours of June.

The Face of an Angel

So many poemless years,
   Not describing your true beauty.
You’re more than an Angel,
   Here on angelic duty.

Your face echoes truth,
   Of divine radiance on earth.
Your presence warms my soul,
And gives my life its worth.

You’re the one I think about,
With an honest heart so true.
I just want to speak from my within,
And wish a happy birthday to you.

As I bring you a little closer,
   Your angelic dust disappears.
I have always wanted to whisper,
   Happy birthday in your ear.

Today is the day of reckoning,
As my lips whisper this greeting.
And praise a wonderful day,
   While in our secret meeting.

Not a meeting of lustful acts,
But a meeting of a warm embrace.
I have always been mesmerized,
When I look upon your face.

Linda-Marie

Angelic force,
draping over me, her canopy.
Unmasking the wonder of this youngster,
her spirits alive within me

You helped erect my "secret window"
Ambitiously chasing what I hunger!
Her spirits alive within me,
unmasking the wonder of this youngster!

Our poetry sessions, I sit and reminisce.
Stress free, under this willow tree
Unmasking the wonder of this youngster,
her spirits alive within me!

When depressed and blue you come through,
relax me when feeling vulgar.
Her spirits alive within me,
unmasking the wonder of this youngster!

Every verse meant to impress this poetess,
an essence of the empress I aim to please!
Unmasking the wonder of this youngster,
her spirits alive within me!

Harshest critic yet my biggest fan,
imperfections cast asunder
Her spirits alive within me,
Unmasking the wonder of this youngster

Death cannot take the gift I was given,
Linda-Marie!!
Unmasking the wonder of this youngster,
her spirits alive within me.

Wine Makes Me Feel Fine

A swig of wine makes me feel fine
We have some every time we dine
Pinot Noir or Chardonnay
Zinfandel's the best says my fiance'

Hard core liquor gives me a buzz quicker
Then me and my man start to bicker
We squabble about mundane things
Like why he won't buy me diamond rings

I deserve it because I'm good to him
I workout often just to stay slim
What we have ain't superficial
And it's not based on purely physical

I love my man with all my heart
But I feel we need a fresh start
A chance to fall in love again
To feel his touch on my skin

A Sunshine Spreader

Don't quite understand The ebb and flow of reviews One day they flow in like water Next day there's just a few I don't think it's my poetry There are other forces at work Could it be just the weather Or some other unknown quirk Guess I'll just try relaxing Let things be as they may In the big overall scheme of things Our attitude makes the day So smile all you buckeroos Your faces surely won't crack You'll feel up on top of the world Happiness you'll never lack Wow what an upbeat poem Bet you're feeling a big bunch better Keep on singing those happy tunes Be a joyful sunshine spreader © Jack Ellison 2013

Wish I Knew

It was just words that we would whisper
To get us through the nights
Or dreams that came to visit us
When life just wasn't right

A comfort from being lonely
Thoughts to occupy the mind
Never really possible
It was never the right time

And after I was quiet
When the lines began to blur
You found where I was hiding
Knew right where my thoughts were

And you swooped in and won me
Took me right off of my feet
Showed me what is really out there
When two unselfish hearts meet

Showed me how to share in a moment
To be kissed without a rush
To be held onto with a passion
And be graced with your soft touch

Now you've set up camp inside of me
But you've gone so far away
So the part of you that's mixed in me
Misses the real you every day

And you took some of me with you
I'm not sure you even know
If you feel me thinking of you
Wishing you didn't have to go

Always waiting for a word from you
Hoping you're happy
Wishing you the best there is
Even if it isn't me

But somehow looking for the happy end
Hoping you miss me too
Wondering where our story leads
I really wish I knew.

Shhhhhhh Listen

Shhhhhhh, listen very carefully D'ya hear that happy sound The corn is high five-ing each other The rain's finally pounding down After a record hot dry summer Getting buckets of that miracle stuff The grass is giggling just like the corn Sure hope it ends up as enough Nature is quite unpredictable eh One year to the next one following We never know if it's feast or famine In self pity we're always wallowing Should know by now nothing's for sure The weather will do it's own thing The only event we can rely on each year Is that winter is followed by spring Shhhhhhh, listen very carefully D'ya hear that happy sound Mother Nature's shining down again With her shimmering golden crown © Jack Ellison 2013

One Of The Lucky Ones

Hope I'm not putting a big hex on myself But till now I've had no serious medical problems Don't know how many can say that at seventy-eight But you can place me in the “fortunate” column Haven't done anything out of the ordinary Thinking maybe I inherited some very good genes My whole family before me all lived to a ripe old age So what's this guy... a can of baked beans! Seven sisters all lived longer than eighty A pattern seems to have been established here Don't want to break the spell or cause any problems I'll just motor along and have another beer Don't think I'd like to be around at one hundred Soiling my jockey and mumbling away Just wheel me out to the back veranda in the sun And forget me for a couple of days © Jack Ellison 2014
