Spider songs

Blades of grass, wet under foot, insect eyes
Dusk, offset by the cricket orchestra
Muted and receding into the trees and bushes,
Tickled by the wind, rattling snake tail wind
While we may be in the company of wolves,
A long legged friend is late for the party

Eyes, little iridescent stars
Attending to each one, and look there,
There she is, making the most beautiful geometry
Parallels within the octagons, pulling silks
An arm for every task, little perpetual motion machine

Is that the Queen of the Night under the rusted iron?
A forlorn lady, black patent leather, kill a man, maybe two
With her danger red symmetry, oozing with youth
And a penchant for paralysis, no one can resist her wine

Then there's the hall of cob webs, threadbare handkerchiefs
Left by ladies who exhausted all of their company
To be a spectacle under the moon, in the wood pile
Dressed up in the finest furs, all earth tones
Stepping out to introduce themselves in girlish droves

Venus of another sort, these little cursed jezebels
Hovering on the skin of the water, or on the red brick wall
Must frequent every happy corner, and slip away at a moment's notice
A real lady always knows when to say goodnight
Such graceful exits through cement cracks
Back to the parlor, to glow in the dark
And they become spiders again

Moon Light Moon Night

We hold hands walking under the bright beam of God’s Moon Light,
And stop and kiss so intently in the soft cradle of the dark Moon Night.

The passion and rapture together we feel so on this cold black night,
Is reflected and majestically warmed by the touch of the Moon Light.

I look lovingly into your eyes on this quite special dark Moon Night,
Marveling at the love so reflected in your eyes by the Moon Light.

This is an enchanted sight to behold by All who love the Moon Light,
Reflecting the beauty and meaning while savoring all the Moon Night.

A deep Cosmic Blackness pervades the canvas of this great Moon Night,
While God’s grace and love pleasure us with a most bright Moon Light.

Almighty God in Heaven gently modulates the tone of this Moon Light,
Bringing constant wonder and glory to All on this most dark Moon Night.

My love and I now understand the mystical meaning of this Moon Light,
As we ponder and hold so special God’s emotion felt on this Moon Night.

Haunted

A hole in the head shooting pain trembles
nightshades coldly down the spine
a soul lost in the land of the living
carried away in darkness
flying inside dark clouds holding just a dream

Distant thunder roars lightening splitting cracks
sure as the crow flies crawling opens Hell's gates
dark jewels of the night
charred remains churning in a cauldron
boiling goodness tears of thoughts

Piercing screams spawning nightmares
holding a promise once made
walking in a valley amongst the dead
shadows now smile hearing animals scream
as the moon plays silver dancing light

Dreams snatched away from reality
the crow calls echoes in silence
victims of this world howling over and back
tragedy cries in their pain and suffering
eyes seeking light
whispers through the branches
a heather bleat creature of the night calls

Haunted by humans chained to the earth
awaiting shadows and sunsets
a cursed banshee wails supernatural screams
from everywhere and nowhere

Mind numbing winds passing through
a white silhouette shredded shroud
around a heart entombed
in agonies' twilight shades clouds darken
storms brewed stirring specters chase the wind

Cold rains become lost tears
the willow weeps in eternal sorrows
a lament for the dead
as the silver crescent moon smiles goodbye

Blends in clear as day after sunrise
forgotten in a valley of unrest
death bell's toll out from the past
onyx feathered crows call painful cries

Forever seeking heaven's gate now sealed
that promised choice was lost ages ago
only burning Hell fires
or cold earthworms await

The desires of love, they demand yet make no claims
Opening hearts leads to bloodshed, despair, agony
The dance of desire leads only to emptiness

A Night To Remember

So sweet a kiss
The murmuring tunes of Spring
In the fragrant breath of night
Hums within my slumbering ears.
Like the whispering trees dancing
In the softest dews descending
From the vapours of the skies
When the soothing night
Was young with the glimmering moon of May.

The poor labouring clouds expanded wide
In the muted distance ripe with coldness
While the storming of the Eastern wind
Drifted through the blossoming fields
Graced by the sultry springs in the lulling hours.
I pulled the weary drapes
When the night grew old with silence
From a crystal window
Mirrored against the dumb fields
Black with the night.
A soft mist exudes the dead wind
Curled around the nodding branches.
Then I stealed away to the vacant spot
Where a crackling fire
Invaded the mournful breath of silence.

Lipsing sounds intrudes the night
Upon the quiet slopes and verdant span
Where the blossoms gently bow
Kissing soft the silver spray
Fluttering in the starry distance.
There sauntered I
Under the gladsome sky
To pluck a cherry from its stem
Outstretched beneath the sobbing moon
That in the dawning misty hours
That silver orb of light expires
When the sun had greet the day
With a golden sigh!

The Night Owl

Hoot! Hoot! Came the call
In silence I listened,heard
Nothing.
Suddenly, hoot! Hoot!
Came the cry,tree
Branches rustling,wings
Flapping.
Seems the world was in
Oblivion-the absolute
Silence.
Went I to the window
and Looked into the
empty Darkness. As I lay
down,I Knew somewhere
I would Hear that sound
again.

Silver Ships

Written May 31, 2013

The sun does rise
Over silver ships sailing in the sky
Rain on down on our parade
In a concrete jungle
The kids come out to play
Masked by this dreadful masquerade

A cosmic dance where stars collide
The kids and parents run to hide
Shelter from the enemy above
Who light up the sky with lightning bugs

The land is dark and the sky is black
Mothers pray the birds will not come back
Be it by barren land or vicious sea
Lord just hear our plea

The sun does rise
Over silver ships sailing in the sky
Rain on down on our parade
In a concrete jungle
The kids come out to play
Masked by this dreadful masquerade

Whispering Night

In a strange
environment under gross
darkness and whispering
night,I found myself with
a companion.
 We walked an endless
journey across the
woods..eerie sounds we
heard,a crack! then the
undead resurrecting from
marshes,we ran seeking
for cover.
  These creatures howled
as they drew near with
blood dripped
mouths,my fear
deepened,I called out to
my friend a flesh eater he
became.
  Under the whispering
night I stood alone,
seemed the world stood
still,as these monsters
encircled me,I closed my
eyes wishing I was not
born.
   Suddenly,a bright light
shone,dispersed
darkness,repelled these
zombies-then eerie noises
ceased, and the world
revolved once again.
  A knock,I realized I
drifted to sleep as my
companion entered my
car.
  We zoomed off towards
the horizon under the
bright sky.

The Autumn Affect

There's something unspecific about the autumn nights
A certain shade of color that uplifts my inner child's eyes
Beside a cashmere moon Venus and Jupiter shine bright
Complimented by a sea of blinking infinite twilight
The scent of burning oak lingers in the air from home made fires
Reminiscent of a time when this man was just a child
Careless and so free to dream and any dream to live
Like feathers floating across a field carried by the wind
As a gentle breeze blows through the leaves shivering delightful gloom
Unlike flowers of springtime the disheveled autumn vibrance bloom
Leaves crackle beneath my feet along the skeleton tree path
Where I try to find my peace or a song to make me laugh
The air is so much crisper and also soothing when I breathe it in
Underneath a starry sky and brighter constellations of Heaven
Amidst the trail I pass a lovely couple holding hands
While their children run aside frolicking in a playful dance
An old man and his wife admire the view from a wooden bench
With smiles on their face as if nostalgia is still their closest friend
Its these specific autumn affects that bring me sorrows and joy
Reminding me of all theses things Ive wanted as a man since I was a little boy
Its times like these that I wish I wasn't always so alone
Because I would light an fire with my family and call it home

Three Inch Cliches

The Soul is the Beautiful Light of Love
Shining like the sun through the
NO
As the reader, I’m going to have to cut you off there.
Here’s a metaphor for you…
Reading is ****ing.
And your words hit our auditory canals
Like a hotdog down a hallway.
As an experienced reader, I’m after
The virgin vernacular
The aphrodisiac aphorism
You know- the big… black words
You feel me?
Because a line is a flashlight, exposing the world’s nudity-
And we’ll never get anywhere shining it in the same spot.
So kiss me with classy couplets
Smack my assonance!
Bring me to the climax-
And we’ll share a smoke together,
Warm beside the fire of your Three Inch Clichés.

Time

I want to say good night
But its night as yet to you
I can see darkness now
If maybe you never left

I have to say good night
Darkness has defeated me
Only your love can resurrect me
I am afraid to go now
But I have to go and live under the shads
Love me to my silent place

Good night when you see the moon
Flower me with roses from abandon garden
Cover me with what i was and be now
Good night sleep with elevated power

Sleep Madrigal

Sleep's the Great Healer—
Sleep's the Revealer
Of hidden meanings,
Unbidden gleanings.

When sorrow aches us,
Sleep overtakes us—
Stealing away grief,
Like a welcome thief.

Night is the coverlet
For a longing lover— yet
It's Sleep who delves
Deep into our selves,
Finding dusty dreams... on shadowy shelves.

When life's a jailor,
Sleep's the unveiler
Of an inner key...
To set us free.

Sleep's our best friend
At a hard day's end—
Weaver of fantasy... with reality,
Make-believer of what could be...
Sleep's the Great Healer... of you and me.

Lilith Invoking

Winds blowing thru the land.
Creatures of the night lurking.

Beware as the spirits take flight.
Over there in the ruined church yard.

There lies the cracked bell, some say,
It can be heard on the nightly breeze.

Suddenly, I hear the screeching night owls.
She's going to take you thru the tunnel of night.

I could barely hear a voice whispering my way.
Just out of the shadows, I see her gazing at me.

She comes from heaven, earth, lives in the underworld.
As the sea ebbed and flowed in honor of it's dark lord.

And you slip naked between my sheets of silk .
Beware that you do not step and lose your way.

For the night is long, and the sea is deep indeed.
As I drive your sons and daughters into ecstasy .

I love how you forbid your sons and daughters.
To commit the sins that you, yourself committed.

I travel thru mirrors along with the owls of night.
I wed thru adultery , and conceive thru murder.

Beware that you do not lose your way this day.
Or your pleasure with life will not last long.

Though you can be sure I will be there, to welcome,
Those who come to me, into the night , eternal !!!

Foggy Night

FOGGY NIGHT ©

The white orb, saturated with
tidal flows, peers through the
veil.

A ghost ship slips up the fog
laden channel.

Night gulls. sing with strident cries

fog seeps in, the tide rolls out,
day is gone, the night creeps on.

Trees, dressed in ebony, drift by.
Water glistens, gold and wet.

Edges blurred night is soft and
tender, damp seeps into cloth,
hair, bone.

Tents of light spread over the
foggy landing.

Hunters of the sea know not day
nor night, fishers all,
white feathers stark against the
darkest shadows.

Palm trees, silhouetted in
ochre gauze, black brushes hard
with paint.

Pilings sway, their waists cinched
with rope.

Matronly sentinels, the craft finds
the woody bosom.

Infinity

Cannot be defined,
cannot be contained,
never even seen it,
will make me go insane.

always unknown,
keeping my eyes wide open,
quicker than the slowest liquid,
steeper than the smallest mountain.

deeper than dished pizza,
bigger than beaches on Ibiza,
can't even believe it,
always deceived by it,

thicker than mocha,
tastier than hot cocoa,
tried to touch it,
can't put a smudge on it.

tried to hear it,
but it's already gong,
star dust in an unparalleled wind,
like an old cherished song.

time for the next puzzle,
everything falling to pieces,
gone like strobes in the dark night,
ready for a new lease of light.

Darkness

when you're fast asleep
and thoughts creep into your head
and flood your brain until it weeps
and your mind descends dark and deep
into a land of dead end worlds
where the only way out
is the way you came in
but the road is way too steep
and your feet are made of lead
and every smile is just pretend
and nothing is to be believed
and you're going off the deep end
bleeding rivers of hatred
into a pool of shallow deceit
where every thought is colored red
and every shade of black completes
every nightmare ever conceived
born of blood-stained dreams within dreams
where that person you used to be
is falling into skies of silent screams
and contemplating death
all the while wishing
to be alive again

SHADOWS

Could spectres conceal inscrutable plot,
while following lives with clandestine eyes:
mocking each movement with grace we have not.

Caste-less company of foolish and wise,
elusive and tireless, always impend:
fleet, ever positioned to criticize.

Noiselessly waiting at each journey's end
watching and judging, without acquittal,
deeds that we're proud of, and some to defend.

Their aloofness lessens us, belittles
as around all they swoop, dread silent crows,
and yet are scattered like children's skittles

when darkness descends with one immense blow,
for night is queen of secrets and shadows.

A person I've met before

You are a person i've met before.
The man who stands knocking at my door.
I remember you from my dreams,
Your eyes sparkle and your smile gleams.

You held the door open as I ran in for shelter from the cold weather & rain.
You are the man I stood next to in line.
You are the man I passed by
I danced as you sang the songs chorus.
I pushed my way through...
the sea of people and stopped next to you.
Amidst the crowd we stood, searching for a way out
I looked around, I glanced in your direction, I looked past you
I found my way out, I hurried my way through.
I walked away having not met you.

A second glance, I did not take,
unaware that our meeting was fate.

You are a person i've met before,
Sometime ago on a night like tonight,
The air was warm, the stars shining bright
The night that we met,
I danced that night, I danced and danced until the morning light
I sat to lay my feet to rest, you came to me no different from the rest
You asked me for a cigarette.
An open chance to conversate
knowing this interaction would not lead to a date
We shared thoughts and ideas of similar interests.
such as music and poetry, art and astrology.
At the time I thought nothing of it, a casual meeting of the mind.
Little did I know, I would continue to meet you throughout my lifetime.

You are a person i've met before,
I've read your book of poetry at the local book store.
you write of life, love and family.
You are a person i've met before,
I've seen your paintings, they are hard to ignore
You are the artist I dream of meeting
You are a person i've met before.

You are the man in my dreams,
Your eyes sparkle and your smile gleams.
I've met you 100 times before,
You are the man who stands knocking at my door.

The kings of the night

The seemingly tranquil sky
blooming with stars soon
pierced by a distant cry
that seems to swoon.

Beneath dense trees standing tall
to touch dark canvas painted
after dusk, prowls the epiphany of all
mother nature’s tainted.

The wise are often alone
and the dangerous hated,
but they express in moan
their solitude, once more grated.

Gradually their voices unite
in a song across the valley,
seeming to smite
all of innocence’s nest.

The moon in her splendour moves
to comfort the carnivores that commence,
and yet her beam soothes
not the beasts’ sense.

Torn between wrong and right
the moon spreads her swanlike wings amidst
the howls of her lovers, the kings of the night…
among the wolves in the mist.

Fear

Written June 25, 2012

Dim the lights
No one knows
Silhouetted indisposed

Can you hear
Children's fears
The darkness will be here

By the time
You can see
The light that buries me

You will know
All that's glitters
Is not gold

Walk the path
Satan's wrath
Will enter through the back

Door is closed
Think you know
Why the Lord has brought is here

Are you telling me lies
Through your eyes
On and on I'll tell you're wrong
Until the day is done

The Canvas of Night

The Canvas of Night

Stars like sprinkled sugar,
lay strewn across the canvas of night,

enthralled by the wonder of the cosmos,
my dreams take to the heavens in effervescent flight,

I bathe in the beauty, soaked in sublime delight,
absorbed in moments of bliss, transfixed by the serene sight.

Stars like sprinkled sugar,
lay strewn across the canvas of night,

and my being is infused with feelings of hope,

for even in darkness I find the sprinkled sugar of hope's light.

note: special thanks to one of my heroes, the late Dr. Carl Sagan, for making science accessible to younger me, many, many moons ago.

silence rules the night

 silence rules the night
 shadows move about

 rain falls like tears
 weeping wind bows to
 no one

 yesterday has been packed away
 tiny boxes and envelopes

 stored in the unsuspecting minds
of the lost between you and i

finding it hard to find my way home
 overtook the moving day

 cluttered thoughts of you
is stored in this fog escaping the end

 more shadows become new
 separating the gifts of life

 who's ?

in this darkness i can see
over come by the dense fog i can feel

the fact that nothing is said is my fear
i want to declare my innocence

silence is the night that hold the deafening
 screams of death of yesterday

snugged away in there rightful places
 counted and numbered perfectly composed

file cabinet, rolodex eyes finding it's part
who's part or what part is mine?

 silence rules the night

Beckoning Beckoning is The Night

Beckoning … beckoning is the night
In its ice blue grey and snow gold light

Beckoning … beckoning is the night

The swallow has long since whispered away
the cardinal and so too …blue jay

have strayed but now in the beckoning light
the beckoning …beckoning of the night

comes the sweeping and keeping
comes sweeping and keeping
in the night

The sky is still ….but wild edged with light
Bluish... high... tight ...grey
but the branches swirl and deeply breigh

beckoning…. they are beckoning
the night into night

Come wild and courageous into fading light
Tis just the beckoning beckoning…. of night

the sky dark blue does and does not ....betray
the coming… coming of end of day

and still it comes the end of day
with the beckoning ...comes beckoning

the…beckoning of night
The light is waning and so day’s might

beckoning as we bridge to night

the wild things move on stealthy flight
beckoning beckoning into night

The beckoning beckoning of the light
wild things shudder and take quick flight

The beckoning beckoning of the night
the wild things move and take to flight

When tomorrow's dawn will cast

first light!

Breathless

Cloaked in the heavy mood of a whisper,
I am enrapture tossing myself freely to the breeze.
Traveling, risking time and space; darkness proves sinister
And the thought of morning a solidary tease;
I am breathless…

Mouthing the words ‘I love you’ as morning drifts in like pollution,
Uninvited entering my utopian dreamscape.
Permeating and clouding my vision’s resolution,
I drift into the desire of the day, my dreams raped;
I am breathless…

As if I had been running, running, running,
My heart pounding to the pitter-patter of my feet.
Subconsciousness, a state deliciously cunning,
I am left awakened with the memory of only your heartbeat;
I am breathless…

Caffeine Rush

Heartbeat fast
Nerves so high
Senses tense
Mind trembling
Darkness surrounded
I’m turning
From side to side

Blood veins jumping
Thoughts in chaos
Brain running
Stars falling
I’m still turning
From side to side

Time is still
Clocks have turned
Against me
And my mind
Outsmarting time
I’m turning
From side to side

Eyelids falling
Heartbeat fast
Nerves so high
Mind is tense
I’m still turning
From side to side

Another Night of Dread

It is dark and night outside my window,
and in the soundless, lit confines of my
room I sit at my old, ivory desk

cheerless

and anxious with dread for what the rest
of another night may bring.

My ostomy bag, an abhorrent creature that
hugs precariously on one side of my abdomen,
covers my raw and fleshy stoma underneath.

Against my desire, the stoma continually oozes
feces and waste

like a sewer into the ostomy bag, which,
every seven days or so ruptures its seal
and transforms into

a stinking and rancid cabbage

whose fetid odor refuses to stop emanating
until the entire, offensive beast is immediately
uprooted from my body.

So, I sit at my ancient, ivory desk, writing
these cherry-picked words to express

the anxiety and the doldrums
of another night;

and the lonely, isolating, embarrassing, humiliating,
ego-wiping, self-esteem killing, mind-numbing,
soul-shattering, universal, all-embracing,
omni-present

stench

that weekly offends my nostrils and fills my lungs
because of a thoroughly used-up ostomy bag that
needs to be removed immediately

like an old, decaying vegetable
that has outlived its
freshness--

It is another cheerless night in the same, old
cheerless space:

the nose-blistering smell, however, is only for
another night...

Night Flight

Silver dollar orbits full,
illuminates a slumbered trail.
Like tidal rhythms I feel the pull.
Subconsciousness now sets sail.

I'm floating, flying viewing all
as my mind stays on the ground.
And suddenly I'm very small,
no conflict can be found.

The daily worries, stress and fears
seem to vanish with the night.
And loneliness just disappears
in dreams when I take flight.

yet even this nirvana state
finds abrupt dissolution.
Eagerly my mind awaits
it's nocturnal resolution.

Fall

The blood of nature
seeps from branches as it falls
carried by wind’s laugh
in a journey through time’s bid
onto man-trodden concrete.

Thunder bellows rage
while clouds shroud themselves in tears
and lightning shreds night
carving glimpses of shadows
into dusk’s timeless glory.

Grey skies petrified
look over earthen colors
encompassing cold
winds of change in the seasons
as was done in years of old.

Doubting the Stars

Everyone sees something different when they look up into the stars. Somewhere there’s a young boy dreaming of becoming the first astronaut to meet new life, on a distant planet. Far away, or maybe just down the street there is an old woman hoping that once her bones meet Earth’s hallowed chamber; her soul will soar into the heavens and her life will become a part of the light that breaks the void between life and death. Her journey, finally becoming as eternal as she always hoped it could be. Some just look up and feel infinitesimal, a speck of dust in a vast and obscure reality. Others simply feel a sense of calm as their distant glow sends tides of vague understanding into their pondering souls, unable to fully grasp the endearing mystery of their presence. I’ve always felt the latter, when I gazed up into the night sky I always knew somewhere deep inside that I wasn’t alone. That something was looking down; not aliens, not a burning celestial knot of souls, but something beyond human understanding..something that tonight seems unfathomable and out of reach. When I was young, I had a form of recklessly unbreakable faith that at the time I thought could not be torn by anything. I had a soul, and a pure heart that would break for anyone, as long as someone was there to mend it, at day’s end. I was sure that there would always be someone. Sure that this world was built by grace and endured by love. But tonight, no hope radiates down, I feel nothing, no presence, no understanding, vague or otherwise. Tonight I am simply biology’s cause and effect. The swelling of impure neurons tossed around in the fatty tissue of a confused brain casts doubt of any sort of happy ending. I am sure that someday gravity will take its toll and do its work. Maybe we will get it right next time.
