Indian Ink

“Indian Accent”

Hear the whispers inside

Chanting from long ago
Echoes come and go
Losing time in a soft eternal glow

A beautiful and delicate autumn mountain scene
Dry blue eyes enchanting melodies!
Voices falling from the sky
Rising hymns release ancient demons that cling to the soul

The darkness dwells under gentle moonlight
Ancestors of the Spirit World,
Exposing Indian hands that weave native smoke into the air
Their spirits taunting burrows from the muddy Earth
Moccasin makers rise from underneath
Guardians of dream catchers
Smooth thread from the outer edge, bowing heads.
Luminous gems of ivory,
Chasing a florid kiss.

Through the winds of enchanted drums, voices cry out for rain.
The hollow chimes mesmerize
An ancient rage begins to flare
Stale madness,
The spears of the perfumed buffalo skin pierced my senses
Removing the veils that cover my eyes
The hands that cover my ears
Washing the scalp that bleeds on my face
They collect tears from memories of the past.

KINDRED IN EVERY WAY!

Raven silk braids, feathers fall from my hair.
Dancing in a horrid hallucination of Peyote,
Waking up from the “American Dream.”
Holding out my arms, I am free, I can fly.

I AM A BIRD!

Dementia

He was always so happy
strong and bold.
He'd give you the shirt off of his back.
Tough.
Independent.
He had a rough life
growing up through the depression,
but like he always does,
he got through it.
He has two boys, of whom he is so proud.
Moved from Regina, to Victoria.
He had the best life anyone his age could have wanted.
But ever since his wife died,
he has not been the same.
Sad
Lonely
Empty.
But like he has always done,
he got through it.
Mind slipping,
just a little forgetful.
That's how it always starts out...
But like always, he powered through it,
until now...
He is not the same person that I used to know.
He been sentenced to the prison in his own mind.
Possessed by the thoughts of his dogs ashes.
He likes to play the blame game,
but we know he doesn't remember that it was him.
He wakes up in the night
shaking with pain,
tears streaming down his face.
There is nothing we can do,
Oh well...
Two more tylenol.
Hold on to hope
for as long as you can,
It's only a matter of time now.
He gets vocal, a very loud tone.
He'll block you in your room
and make false accusations
But we know that it's the pain induced monster in him.
Tick tock, tick tock...
You can't handle the stress anymore
you have to leave.
Just hope for the best,
maybe it will get better.
Surprise, it doesn't.
Your denial is foolish, everyone knows
what happens next.
Sedation
Medication
Anger
Hurt
All results of

Moments In Time

The sweetest sounds of burning trees
A gentle stroking in the breeze
The calm has lasted past the storm
Cloudy visions, Satan’s roar
Too many sights have passed my way
A time found only in the haze
The softest screams are running bare
My aching bones creak as I stare

You walk a distance towards me
The fall’s eternal, can’t you see?
I’m a memory in your heart
I whisper to you in the dark

The battle’s started at the end
No one is coming to repent
The sinners grab their wine from prey
No judgment calling here to stay
The sport is reckless to be told
The one is laughing at his souls
It falters nowhere to be sure
The power grows forevermore
Like a spirit in the wind
I have no say in where you’ve been
But cross the line to come to me
And pay the price for ecstasy

You walk a distance towards me
The fall’s eternal, can’t you see?
I’m a memory in your heart
I whisper to you in the dark.

Twigs

Twigs

Flowers bloom
And flowers wilt.
Flowers blush
And flowers fade.
The eternity is only in me-
The twig that bears the flowers.

Sparrows are born
And sparrows die.
Sparrows fly
And brighten the sky.
That who nurtures sparrows is me-
A cozy make of a twig upon a twig.

The sun fades
And moon is born.
The twilight blurs
And moonlight spreads.
All the soothing moonlight beams are me-
A crisscross of unfathomed twigs.

Whether in its birth
Or in its death;
In the heart
Of its heart;
The entire beauty is none but one-
A design of mysterious twigs.

Groundswell Girl - Named by JB

Enter a storybook tale
Where I can be
The heroine you hail
Lucid dreams of soft reflection
A touch heated with lust and desired protection
A breathe a gasp as we succeed
Join the fairytale with me
Valiant night within dark eyes
the right movement and I make them shine
like moonlight on the steamy hot spring
care to follow for a little dip with me
Trailing like the water at my fingertips
Grasp me around my hips
As close as the breeze on my skin
Whisper lies as I let you in
Lips mumbling up my thighs
bare heart exposed to the sky
fire burning in my veins
Am I a mistress of this lust or simply a slave
Trembling with desire
Take me till we've lost count of the hours
enter this storybook tale
Where I can be the heroine you hail

If you never return

Dedicated to a friend who needed this from fresh eyes…

Good

I won’t miss you much.

My 5 fingertips of serenity
Will help me climb to undiscovered atmospheres

Above the cumulonimbus

Your irrelevancy will fester within your bubbling swamp.

I will conquer with copious smiles
Laced in satin bows gifted by the menagerie

My ascension on blissful asphalt
Will rain awakenings on condescension’s superhighway
To 8th circle

No lettered signs
To direct my paths

I wax stringent lyrical apropos
Upon their chiseled onyx dialects

Degraded translations scribbled within
Drops of filtered turpentine

I walk on resilient inkblots to write my rights.

Across sapphire skies
Saying goodbye to crimson lies
I watch faceless hemophiliacs bleed each other dry

Silhouetted scabs, never an obstacle
Specks of dust, decelerated particles

I dare you to crumble my pages
When you have no prologue of your own

I wish for you to become a hailstorm upon my scars,
Because they need a good laugh

I insist you let it rain
Let it reign

For I’ve seen the fire
Seen the rain
Seen sunny days
Thought they’d never end

Seen lonely times when I could not find a friend

But, I found MYSELF!

Rainbow affirmations that I
Will see you again
From distant mountaintop
Struggling on corroded foot

You may be the eye of a hurricane
But, I am your glaucoma

Unless you open wide

Generic Minds

generic minds listen to generic music
have generic thoughts that are unknowingly abusive
watch generic things talk about generic things
gee this generic *****is spreading like a disease
better get your flu shot
thats what they said to me
a suicidal vaccine
a subliminal killing spree
its contagious and the outrageous
thing about it is that the people are blind in an eye
that they didn't even know they had
it's sickening to watch these clueless civilians
inside the looking glass
with nightmares of being free
without a key to their mind
for it is trapped in the frequency
in the illusion of time
bathed in our universe
killing all that refuse to see
those that admit to hypocracy
or see the message in hip hop
how cant you see
the message in the lyrics that
bring adolescents to their knees
from bullet wounds conflicting their flesh
contradicting that they're the best
but the songs keep telling them that they dont need no rest
that they dont wanna go home
that they should ride alone
with the gat as their only companion
and so the only path they choose is the one that they're told
until they grow old and hope turns to a window pane
inside a window pane, until all they feel is pain
they realize that the music itself is ashamed
so whats to look up to
when you cant even speak when you cant even walk because you look so bleak
your eyes are sunken from the tv you're infested with the dee zees
now its too late to turn around and live for your conscious
so when youre screaming oh please
close your eyes and bring your mind to life
open your eyes for the first time
and never wonder why
since the answer this entire time
has been inside
and you better find it before you die
you dont want your soul to be in a pool with all the others
a buncha brothers missing their mothers
but only seeing strangers
only feeling the haters
wishing they would have used their minds when they had them
and now its too late,
now it's time for another new born fate to grab them

Alone In The Dark

I opened my eyes,under.
A bleak atmosphere-
deserted I beheld.
Sinuous channels flowing.
Whimpering
Sounds escaped,
As I walked on vast layer
Of permafrost.
Beyond the horizon,the
World lay bare.
With my heart in my
Hand,I passed thru
Argyle And Hellas,amid
eerie Sounds echoing as
dust
Storms circled,forming
Shadowy figures.
Storms etching
The terrain,light
Coloured dust particles
Created shifting light
And dark patterns.
How came I into this
Voiceless world?
Three thousand miles,
Across is chasm;beneath
Lay the throne of Hades
I thought.
Drawing near,I jolted
As I heard a voice.
In the ship, this voice
Echoed in my ears-
"Welcome to earth!"

Broken Dreams

Do you believe in the things that you've always known,
Can you understand the things you've been shown.
Is it the visions you see that make you believe,
Or is the feelings you get when you've been deceived.
The pain you feel a never ending ache ,
Tearing your heart and soul from you every day.
Time ticks slowly pounding away at you,
Throbbing heart breaking and there's you can do,
Must I settle for these lost and broken dreams,
Because it has all the signs that what it seems.
How much should a man endure to find his way,
It cant possibly be like this hard for me every day.
There is nothing so frustrating as being so confused,
Especially when you've discovered that you've been used.
I will get through this lonely phase I have no doubts,
But I'm sure there will come a day I'll figure it all out.
Cautiously I walk the path that's been laid before me,
In faith I will continue for I know he will let me see.
Life will be thrown at you in so many different ways,
I will be prepared for these things for the rest of my days.
Broken dreams will be the learning tree for me to grow ,
Living my life with Joy Happiness is what I'll always Know.

The Beach of Promises

The Beach of Promises

1.

Fingers entwined, barely touching,
turquoise waters teasing your dancing toes,

strolling along that serene deserted beach,
our promised dreams within aching reach.

2.

Hands clasped, holding on,
sea-breezes tickling the nape of your neck,

walking together, alone, vowing to never breach,
the dreams dreamed on that faraway velvet beach.

3.

Hands in my pockets, alone,
traces of you linger, teasing,

lost in my scribbles, your memory fading out of reach,

my thoughts ablaze, now and then,
catching a whiff of your fragrance,

wafting through alleyways of nostalgia,
your hand in mine on our pristine beach.

World War - Benita Margaronis

RED DOOR (collaboration)

by~ Benita Margaronis

War Of The World Death, pain, blood,
Shell-shocked men, suffering and darkness.
It's all they ever saw.
Soldiers thinking about their lives.
Rotting flesh and the whimper of dying men with their bodies half blown off.
Other soldiers shooting them in the head to end their pain.
The shattering sound of an explosive destroying life and more ground.
Blood and body parts spray through the air and spread throughout the ground.
Total emptiness and nothingness.
Mounds and mounds of biting bodies and horses.
Scattered planes, tanks, trucks and others.
Burning guns and oil.
Because the world went to war so much was lost for so little gain.
The war of the world shall never be forgotten.

by~ Poet Destroyer

War of the world Sacrifice.
Doors tainted red, tragedies never forgotten.
Mediterranean swept the soul of combatants without a word to say.
A war so defiant both sides lost more than humanity to each other.
Prisoners, white flag surrendering, shot in the head with no remorse.
Brave soldiers wiping off the blood of their face like a tear.
Men in fetal positions crying hard like the day they were born for*mom-MA.
Soldiers pocket full of notes and dog-tags for a loved one.
Achievements that followed death without a mother's hand to hold.
Chaotic news and telegrams traveled without a moment to spare.
A flag brought to the door painted black.
Mothers falling to the floor broken hearted.
Because no one can mend the courage one gave to us today.
The war of the world shall never be forgotten.

The Landscape of a Soul

The landscape of a soul is
A valley of uncertainty
Beneath a mountain of woes,
A river of doubt
Carving a path between
A desert of despair
And a forest laden with shortcomings.
This is the trek of a lifetime.
A journey laced with
A sense of impending doom,
With nothing but the path ahead
To supply a glimmer of hope.
But we,
The dreamers,
Delve into these trenches of mystery
And despair,
Knowing that we
May discover riches beyond compare,
But just as well meet our end
Along the way.
For we know how remarkable it is,
That one can miss so much
With our feet set forward
Our eyes to the ground
And our mind lost in the clouds.
When all along,
The answer we sought
Was nestled among the insecurities
And imperfections
Of the landscape of our soul.

The Storm

And the storm calls to me in ways you'll never understand
A gentle call that urges my soul forth
The lighting guiding a path for my feet to walk
Between the stones and ash of all that once was
I stand in the echoing silence of the rain
It drops down upon my skin like the blessing waters of heaven
Soothing me, lifting the weight from my body
I feel at once as if I am home
Standing amid two dimensions
Caught between two skies - here and there
The night wraping around me in warmth
The gentle wind lifting me off my feet
Drops from the clouded moon washing away my body
and I am left just a soul, an essence
The storm calls me forth from beneath my roof
Beckoning me into its depth
I stand among the reeds in the basin
They dance and sway as if welcoming me
And I sway with them back
Caught up in the power that charges the air
That threatens to sweep me away
If the ground will just loosen its hold
The thunder rumbles a low welcoming growl
And I get pleasently lost within it
I am so small compared to its vastness
I close my eyes and succumb to the skies wishes
Rising higher until my feet no longer touch the ground
My fingertips touch the liquid color of the stars
A sigh drifts from my lips
There is no need of thought to stay afloat
There is no demand to breathe in air
No crushing weight upon my chest
As my lungs struggle to survive
There are no struggles here
I make my bed on blackened clouds
And give in to the call
The storm has claimed me as its own
It was such a struggle to stay upon the ground
When the storm would call me home

Sea And Space

I see outer space
As the place
To retrace the roots
Of the human race.

I see under the sea
Is where our bodily
Cells first came to be.

Man's heart is in the stars,
Holding onto the dream to reach Mars.
Man's history,
Written in the stars as destiny.

I am but a child,
Born onto this planet turned wild.
I am but a soul
Sent here to alleviate the toll.

I see a sea of stars,
A healing ocean for our scars.
I see an empty crater
As void as our love for our Creator.

Man's fate has
Always been to create.
Man's destiny is to face
The sailing of the vastness of sea and space.

Butterfly

I once was like a catipiller young, naive, and new
Always living from my heart not knowing what
else to do.Easy to take advantage of, that is
just the case, people would walk over me
like I was their dirty used up suitcase.
Now I feel a newness coming, like a light
shining from the sky, colors fill my world
and I know I am blooming into a butterfly.
Purple,Pink, Blue and Green I can feel them
flowing through. Colors of the rainbow raising
me into full bloom. Wise and strong I am becoming
My faith leads me where I need to go giving me
insight and wiseness for only me to know.
I have not done this on my own you see
I have been guided by God and Angels
on this Earth. Wise words the wisdom at
it's best comes from a wise lady who
seems to know me best. Lucky, I am
to have her in my life, she always shoots
it straight and tells me like it is, knowing
her words touch my heart and gives me tons of faith..
I feel like flying through the sky or climbing
a tree way up high. I feel like observing the
world just like a brand new butterfly so as I
Bloom I become Anew something unlike the past
Smart and wise beautiful on the inside and outside
a touch of color here a touch of color there
makes me glow and become a beautiful blooming butterfly...

Conspiracy: Who Killed The Easter Bunny

A crowded table, all suspended in shock
The sound of the shot dimming to a ‘knock’
Only silence, except for the marching clock
The weapon still smoking; an anonymous glock
WHO KILLED THE EASTER BUNNY?

Loud cries arise from the elongated table,
Jack Frost is shocked, the Tooth Fairy unable
To speak whilst Santa is checking the stable
For clues on the erstwhile maidservant Mable
WHO KILLED THE EASTER BUNNY?

They searched for hours, called in C.S.I,
Panic set in, would the children all cry?
Sandman confirmed the bunny had died
Batman suspected somebody had lied
WHO KILLED THE EASTER BUNNY?

Guests were quizzed, interrogations began
The mystery unfolded when Santa Claus ran,
Grabbing the pies, he tried escaping in a van
But was stopped in his tracks by superman
SANTA KILLED THE EASTER BUNNY!

Only in You

Through the lonely woods, I may head,

Upon the autumn leaves, I may tread,

At the secluded horizon, I may stare,

And only you, I may see,

In those symphonies of silence,

In those melodies of calmness,

In those euphonies of quietness.

By the silent lake, I may lay,

Till the twilight fades, I may stay,

Then in reclusive silence, I may walk,

And only to you, I may talk,

Through those toungueless emotions,

Through those wordless attachments,

Through those voiceless sentiments.

In the lone meadow, I may wander,

Along the untrodden paths, I may waver,

In companionless seclusion, I may hide,

And only in you, I may find,

The depths of oneness,

The bonds of togetherness,

The cozy feel of coalescence.

In the wilderness of emotions, I may die,

At the merciless daggering, I may sigh,

Through a million wounds, I may bleed,

And only in you, I may seek,

The balm of love,

The warmth of affection,

The heal of inseparability.

Daybreak

I wake on the sand
Right near the beach
You have yet to awake
Far out of reach
And Daybreak has arrived
A beauty unlike any other
Comparable only to us, girl
And how we love each other

So I gaze up alone
Marveling up at the sky
The warmth of the sun
Drying my eyes
I'm reflecting on us
Oh how each other we trust
I'm just so happy we're together
And I think to myself,
Just as this sun, we'll last forever

Then returning to be with you
I lay again now
Place my hand gently
On your warm tender shoulder
While I think of our lives today, love
And how they'll be when we're older...
I know there'd be no other way
So "I Love You" I make sure I say
To you, each and everyday

The Glass Goddess

All around me
Great cities made of sand.
Green sky scrapers poke through the ground
To thrive in life’s strict conditions
And melt away with the tide…

Great houses made of cards
Form lines, and tightrope walk existence,
Knowing that any moment, the wrong brick may fall
And buckle our world to its knees
As Mother Earth shouts Jenga! from the sidelines.

So while were here
We dance with the Glass Goddess
Poised miles above reality,
Leaping over the heavens on our domino stilts-

We floor it in the sky
Living death in the fast lane,
Seizing the day
Because any moment
We could disappear

Miles

I write
my late night revelations
paint an image so clear-
so precise-
as if fine-tuned with a microscope.
I see the truth.
I now realize that what I need-
I want-
is YOU.
I don't know how I am going to make you see,
make you feel...
I need to make you know.
A simple touch is all I need
to delve into your mind and infect you.
But how to reach you?
You are hidden far away
within your own mind,
in maze of your own design.
Between us locked doors and endless traps,
mountains,
valleys,
rivers, lakes, oceans,
miles and miles of
impassible terrain that keeps me apart,
keeps me from you!
We are two universes set to collide-
not to be destroyed,
but merge into one.
Set to collide, but keep missing our mark.
This is unbeknownst to you.
I keep the secrets within me.
How much longer can I wait-
how much longer until my silence
consumes me?
Until you break me?
I am deserted, alone,
left in desolation.
You are the answer to the questions,
the key to my freedom.
But you cannot reach me.
And you do not know what you are.
How much longer til my time runs out?

Inevitable Bear

Oh lonely Inevitable Bear,
Padding claws, death in white
Sorrow in recurring nightmare
Instinct’s test; fight or flight?

Camouflage against the fence,
A challenge; my subconscious fear
Ominous slowly moving silence,
“Let me in, there’s a bear out here!”

My Wishes are Simple

My Wishes are Simple

My wishes are simple,
my desires few,

to gaze upon an ocean,
and marvel at a solitary drop of dew.

My wishes are simple,
my dreams not too grand,

to feel the waves teasing my tired feet,
with no footprints left in the cool, wet sand.

My wishes are simple,
my thoughts serenely gentle, calm,

my heart resting beneath a swaying palm,

healing my being, caressed by nature's soothing balm.

Word Dynamic by Weston Gregory

The strength is often of things
that's spoken
and word sound renews our hope.
There are direct relation to
paths that's taken
when we all heed what's discuss.

So, open your mind to a cosmic
connection,
communicating and being determine
there is where you will always endear
unique qualities of your yearning,
Transmitting symbiotically while
helping other to find there footing.

What hasn't, isn't necessary never to be.
What dwell on us most though,
are the regrets of our past; misdeeds.
Where opportunity floss and love lost
find us grieving our doubted abilities,
but, natural gifts not sparing hits
hold the place of not just an optimist;
in its rebirth a phoenix is more dynamic...

Philosophical Poetry Week: Transient Tuesday

I am a misprint,
Ink blot on love,
I remain a maybe
Longing for fact,
No speck of lint,
A hand in glove.
Thunder; a baby
Will only react

When you etch
Parallel clouds,
Whistling on cue
To a dead town.
Dream a sketch
Of silent crowds
Becoming you,
This boiling crown

Chews thought
Into flagellation.
Holes in the walls
To spy through,
Seeking a sort
Of bricked-up sun.
A heaven of halls,
All leaving you.

A person I've met before

You are a person i've met before.
The man who stands knocking at my door.
I remember you from my dreams,
Your eyes sparkle and your smile gleams.

You held the door open as I ran in for shelter from the cold weather & rain.
You are the man I stood next to in line.
You are the man I passed by
I danced as you sang the songs chorus.
I pushed my way through...
the sea of people and stopped next to you.
Amidst the crowd we stood, searching for a way out
I looked around, I glanced in your direction, I looked past you
I found my way out, I hurried my way through.
I walked away having not met you.

A second glance, I did not take,
unaware that our meeting was fate.

You are a person i've met before,
Sometime ago on a night like tonight,
The air was warm, the stars shining bright
The night that we met,
I danced that night, I danced and danced until the morning light
I sat to lay my feet to rest, you came to me no different from the rest
You asked me for a cigarette.
An open chance to conversate
knowing this interaction would not lead to a date
We shared thoughts and ideas of similar interests.
such as music and poetry, art and astrology.
At the time I thought nothing of it, a casual meeting of the mind.
Little did I know, I would continue to meet you throughout my lifetime.

You are a person i've met before,
I've read your book of poetry at the local book store.
you write of life, love and family.
You are a person i've met before,
I've seen your paintings, they are hard to ignore
You are the artist I dream of meeting
You are a person i've met before.

You are the man in my dreams,
Your eyes sparkle and your smile gleams.
I've met you 100 times before,
You are the man who stands knocking at my door.

Tomorrow is Ours

Tomorrow is Ours.

Suffocating beneath the weight of historical fear,
asphyxiated by the legacy of traumatised yesteryear,

the festering wounds of enslavement still remain,
juggling euphemisms in a crisp sound-bitten refrain,

spewing out neo-liberal economic charades,
doling out charity in strips of plastic band-aids,

but,

tomorrow shall be ours,

casting away subservient mind-sets that shackle,
no longer the weakened prey of the insatiable jackal,

tomorrow shall be ours,

we shall reclaim our plundered mindspaces,
we shall shed our chains, leaving behind the traces,

of past injustice, of the hurt and pain of our ancestors' sorrows,

we are here, now, alive with hope,

we shall rightfully claim our own tomorrows.

When He Breaks You

When He breaks you

It is to re-make you.

If given the choice

To give destiny your voice

You would undoubtedly have picked this state

Such is the irony of fate

He breaks you now

So you later see the how -

How the pieces of your journey come to be

A slow but eventual solving of this mystery

He makes you work work work – then fail

So that you realize your means are of no avail

Without His will -

But feel His mercy fill -

Even through the aches still

He punctures your bubble of hope

To teach you the meaning of struggling to cope

To avoid you saying ‘this was all from me’

Which you might say if it always did come so easy

He lets you fall

So that when you stand

It’s straight and tall

Your past sorrows

Not letting you drown

Without your ego

Weighing you down

Even while the road appears smooth

He lets you trip and trip again

So that you might stumble upon hidden treasures

From the dirt, which you may otherwise not gain

In essence,

He knows Best

The perfect Teacher

Who puts the perfect test

-

Truly,

He breaks you

To re-make you…

Better.

The Petty Posh-WahZee - Liberation and Ostentation

The Petty Posh-Wahzee - Liberation & Ostentation

The Not-So Distant Past:

The fallen fighters for freedom, are unable to turn in their graves,
their battered, fragmented bones, mixed with a handful of torn rags,
are all that remain, a mute reminder of their selfless valiant sacrifice.

They endured brutal Apartheid harassment, detentions without trial,
torture in the cells, and mental anguish when loved ones disappeared,
they left their homeland, to continue the struggle against racial bigotry,
while countless others fought the scourge of white-minority rule at home.

Nelson Mandela and many, many others, spent their lives imprisoned,
on islands of stone, and on islands of the cruellest torture, yet they stood,
never bowing, never scraping, they stood, firm for ideals for which they were prepared to die,

and many, many comrades did die, at the hands of the callous oppressor,
and many, many comrades perished in distant lands, torn from their homes,
while the struggle continued, for decades, soaked in blood, in tears, in pain.

The Present:

19 years have passed, since freedom was secured at the highest of prices,
delivering unto us, this present, a gift of emancipation from servitude,

a freedom to walk this land, head held high, no longer second-class citizens,
in the land of our ancestors, whose voices we hear and need to heed today.

I do not care much for fashion, Lewis-Fit-On and Sleeves unSt.-Moron,
yet the ostentation that I witness baffles even my unsophisticated palate,

our ancestors' plaintive whispers are being dismissed, left unheeded, as
we browse the aisles for more and more, always for more and yet more.

Asphyxiated by the excess of the Petty Posh-Wahzee, we find ourselves,
perched precariously on the edge, of a dissolution of all that is humane,

babies go hungry, wives are battered, our elders left in hospitals for hours,
I cringe as I scribble these words, perhaps too sanctimonious and preachy,

yet I know, deep in the marrow of my brittle bones, I know, I know, I know,
this tree of freedom planted by the nameless daughters and sons of Africa,

needs to be shielded, nurtured, protected from our very own baser impulses,
so that the precious tree of freedom, may bear the fruit that may feed us all,

for if not, then we are doomed, to tip over, and into the yawning abyss, we shall fall.

This City Inspires Me

The Chicago skyline.
You symbolize home.
You are me and I am you.

There you are Sears Tower!
Just like you I will stand tall and strong
Even through life's toughest winds,
I might sway back and forth,
But to the ground which I was built on,
I'll remain.
Even when people try to change my name,
I'll just reply "Watchya talkin bout Willis?!"
Yeah, you'll always be Sears to me.
And I'll always be Joe to you.

Thank You Chicago.

I promise I will get as fast as
The trains and planes that transport your people
And when I get caught up in life's traffic,
I promise to keep my cool and my destination in mind.
I promise to get as strong as your culture is.
I promise to always be filled with as much vigor as
Your raging college students are.
I promise to stay as passionate as
The struggling musicians that serenade your "L" subways are.
I promise I will work as hard as
Your workers that are just trying to pay their bills do.
I promise I'll always stay as hungry
As the poor that beg on your streets are.

And I promise I'll make you proud of me.
For I am proud of you!
Chicago, don't you know?
You will always put the "O" in Joe.

The Canvas of Night

The Canvas of Night

Stars like sprinkled sugar,
lay strewn across the canvas of night,

enthralled by the wonder of the cosmos,
my dreams take to the heavens in effervescent flight,

I bathe in the beauty, soaked in sublime delight,
absorbed in moments of bliss, transfixed by the serene sight.

Stars like sprinkled sugar,
lay strewn across the canvas of night,

and my being is infused with feelings of hope,

for even in darkness I find the sprinkled sugar of hope's light.

note: special thanks to one of my heroes, the late Dr. Carl Sagan, for making science accessible to younger me, many, many moons ago.

Where Wild Violets Grow

Scribbling these verses,
caressing your bare back,
simple rhymes,
flowing from my fingertips.

Scribbling verses,
sprinkling odes to fragrant promises,
your smile lightens the burdens,
off my heavy heart.

Scribbling verses,
soaked in countless kisses,
the moonlight waltzing on your skin.

Scribbling verses,
feeling you,
your love never ceases to flow,

through the streams of my mind,
to a place of our own,

The Tragedy of the Banished Revolutionaries

The Tragedy of the Banished Revolutionaries.

Epochs apart, yet,
bound by conscience,

Buddha,
Jesus,
Moses,
Muhammad,
Ram.

Enduring the whispers of time,
through creeds professed,
sermons preached,
and a million sins confessed.

Though,

the essence,
of these banished revolutionaries,
is ceremonially muted by ritual,
and gleefully crushed under,
grandiose edifices,
that serve Religion Inc.

"And the meek shall inherit the earth",
an incendiary thought,
conveniently discarded,
for the pie in the sky that must be sought.

The tragedy of the banished revolutionaries,
stings.
stabs,
whispers still,
for us to hear,
through the din of the cacophony of prayer.

Buddha,
Jesus,
Moses,
Muhammad,
Ram.

The tragedy of the banished revolutionaries,
persists,
each day that we choose,
to shun the meek,
and mouth conscience-salving prayers,

for yet more silver,
and yet more silk.

Drifting Mainly

You belong to me mate ( Intro )
And that be that!
Get on board
And grab your hat!

The ship was aghast at its new passenger	( Verse )
Like disdain for the lives that they now left behind,
Newcomers were scarce
And they never would last
But I held up my chin nice and high.

The bloke who took me screamed	( Pre-chorus )
“Mop up the deck we’ve got things to do!”
But I said sir,
I’m just a boy and don’t know what’s to do.

And he said ( Chorus )
“Drifting mainly
Sailin the shores
Taking what’s mine
And leaving what’s yours
Cause you know, we ain’t dead yet.”

Taking the seas for more than eight moons
We found islands and loot
That was bigger than most.
The taste of sea air
With its wind in my hair
Took me away to this new life I lead.

After mopping the deck
He grabbed my hand and screamed
 “Steer this ship boy!”
But I said sir,
I’m just a lad and don’t know where to go.

So the crew yelled	( Chorus )
“Drifting mainly
Sailin the shore
Taking what’s mine
And leaving what’s yours
Cause you know, we ain’t dead yet.”

Surprising to me
Was my unshaven face
The captain looked on
And smiled with grace,
We stopped at a place
Where the women were loose and didn’t mind
If we took a peak.

He said “Now you’re a man so let’s get on that boat,
We got places to be and some people to rope,
So grab that sword and drop that mop
Cause you’re no longer a boy in my eyes.”

I practiced the duel with the men in the crew
The captain took eye to my devilish pride,
And he took me aside and said
“Even in death I’m gonna miss you boy
But don’t let it strike you
Or kill your spirits
Cause even time can beat out the Grim.”

Then in the darkness came fire and screams,
Our vessel had stopped after fourteen years,
The crew fought hard and beat most of the men
But now, my Captain was dead.

We took the new ship watching ours sink deep
Saying goodbye to our drowning escape,
The crew turned towards me and asked
“What do we do?” and I smiled,
And they did to.

And we yelled ( Chorus )
“Drifting mainly
Sailin the shores
Takin what’s mine
And leaving what’s yours
Cause you know, we ain’t dead yet.”

My Love

my love...

my love blossoms amidst the thunder

across the oceans and the beyond the seas

my love reaches out and touches

the moments of bliss as the loneliness flees

my love is simple
with profound feelings of yearning desire

my love rages within
the furnace of this aching heart's unquenchable fire

my love basks in the warmth of the knowledge

that in the spring it takes root and it will flower

my love breathes in the light fragrance

of her hair after her warm and delicate shower

my love remembers drowning in her eyes

of those ethereal moments frozen forever more

my love recalls the fleeting ticking of the clock

each minute apart stabbing at my very core

my love she knows I need her so

for she needs me just as much

my love she sprinkles light flourishes of her sensual touch

as my love for her continues to ceaselessly grow

my love reaches down into the crevasses of my of being

my love for her is held onto deep inside

for in the coming of the cold ache of seperation

my love settles between the folds of her heart, for 'tis there that my love for will reside

my love like an eternal dream caresses me in wakefulness and in sleep

and that is the feeling that I shall cherish

a feeling of love that has settled in me

a feeling so pure and a feeling so very deep...

Pledge Not The Allegiance

It's the third verse,
I got the urge to purge
All the curt words I've splurged,
I've submerged in sin,
I'll go to church repent,
Then go curse again,
Lets reverse this trend
We nurse tolerance,
When it might offend,
If I white wash my fence,
So try to not get tense,
When I do not defend,
Those who chose to be dense
And not use their two cents,
To show kids the reverence,
For the pledge of allegiance.

Aging Heart

Time runs fast when we are young,
As fast as human eyes can blink.
Turn away and there it goes,
What youth we have will slowly sink.

It runs with legs that won’t tire
So that your aging heart may sleep.
Close your eyes and let it fall,
The fruits you’ve reaped are yours to keep.

Does the river dry when you
Have passed the rapids of this ride?
Open your eyes so you may see
The world you’re bound to on this tide.

For Bruce Springsteen

for bruce springsteen...

it was a rain-swept monsoon day

way back then, so many moons away

when i felt the music strumming in my veins

setting me free like a runaway horse without any reins

you sang of simple truths,

your verse spoke to people just like me

in my lonely, wasted, and desolately quiet night

as you screamed out tragic human wrongs, and of everyone's plight

'bobby jean' spoke to me

of that girl down the street

glimpses of whom, we as innocents would furtively meet

and 'the river' that flowed through my ever-barren heart

led me down further roads of thunder

when slowly i finally learnt that the hardest part was fighting on

and never to surrender

to the hard-luck dreams that were born to run

while i danced in the dark

with memories vivid and stark

even as i whined like that dog who for forever lost his howling bark

and then a 'human touch' came along

and 'better days' seemed real, not just words in a song

and still you sang and swayed and spoke straight into my unseeing eyes

as gardens of secrets were opened, and as your fist punched the skies

in an anger that i too felt and in whose cauldron i too burned

as we saw murder get incorporated, while on its wobbly axis, our fragile world apathetically turned

and then suddenly i was told that i was all grown up

working on a highway of scattered ideals

and absolving myself by sprinkling some coins in a waiting cup

well, after all these years of walking along so many a thorny road

with an armour of your verse covering me, even as i hear them taunt me and even as they continue to goad

but now i can feel myself fading away, into the bleakness of this coming night

just like the ghost of that old tom joad...

Conviction

Innocents is purity, which evil preys.
To endure such beings may leave one in decay.
Anger and hate will fill your mind, weakness seeping down your spine.
Fear gives in, you can not breathe and can not stand.
Darkness overwhelming with the end at hand.

A reaper comes to collect your spirit.
But on this day you need not fear it.
A helping hand he comes to give, he sees purity and light deep with in.
Pick yourself up young lad and breathe deep, your life has meaning if you seek.
Your mind is poisoned and your heart frail.
Stay steadfast your light will prevail.

Your conviction is strong, it never falters.
Take your pain and build alters.
Around your heart to ward off the dark.
Your almost there, protect your spark.
From the evil that dwells in your mind,
Leave it there and don't be blind.

Enjoy the beautiful things in life.
So you may better understand your strife.
For the road to glory is long and treacherous.
Do not fear because you are dangerous.
Armor thick forged in pain, spear of light leaving blood stains.

Do not fear the beast with in, control it and give it name.
Listen to the vibrations, now take aim.
He is your spear, your love is the light.
Protect the innocent and fight.

Glory comes, but does not wait.
To seek it out is to seek my fate.
Innocents cries, evil feeds.
A spear of light is what I will be.
Piercing the darkness of evil deep,
Until glory comes so that I may sleep.

Oh Walker's Will and Lander's Way

Oh walker’s will and lander’s way…
Did not we grow in love’s dismay?
while wandering by the garden path
that led us to “the grapes of Wrath”
but also by the Lake of Tow ....and woe
still... on we wandered … did farther go
to where the wake of Willing’s way
slammed us like the tides…to our final days
against the side of Trivial’s Pass
no easy going, unto the last

So Now! Away my love!... turn now away!
The sky is dark... tis end of day

no more to walk hand and hand
no circle to be broken
no promise in sands
of time...ticking time ...that has now stopped
the boom has struck... love's hammer dropped

Let us land …in this peaceful place
in this subjective joy… in an objective space

we journeyed long unto the bend
of bow and break...relent and lend
but even we must greet our circle's end

The Bird that is Loved and Loathed

It burns and it stings.
It hurts.
More than drowning beneath
the ice.
More than remaining in a
kindled flame
She hits and I no longer cry.
Why mother, why?

It burned and it stung.
The markings remained,
returned, and were relived
Looking, loving, and little
known loathing were the known
ways of living.
Never was their pity for the
child that cried
Never was their relief for the
child that tried

You were that lovely bird that
understood the complications of
felicity
Nothing looked the same in
those dewy browns of yours.
My everbeating would cry tears
of joy.
The others-they were yet to
appear.
Caring Mother, o' so fair
 You were that beautiful bird
filled with care.

The others came and were not
alone. Their two suitors sat on
the throne.
Rampage and rage why did you
come?
I began to wither and wither
slumping along. So very soon I-
the child of fines- became a
human raceme.
The droops of the Lily of the
Valley became the slumping of
my heart.
My lovely bird the enemy had
taken you and the person you
were is far from near.
For that divine nature left its
intricate self and you became
irretrievable my big bird.
All of your fairness died.
With that went my pride.

Mother, Mother what moved
you so?
Your intense spirt vanished only
to supplement a monster.
Mother, Monster and your tar
filled lungs.
How did I kill that liver that was
so, so strong?
The lesson of pain was one you
came to learn.
My darling bird why did you
turn?

My lovely bird and your big
brown eyes
I'll tell you once, but never
twice.
Pain is only a flower for it
blooms and dies
And a mistake can be killed as
quickly as lice.
You dear bird hurt me well.
Though, haven't you heard?
Weakness is a souls greatest
strength.
You brought me up, then you
brought me down.
You haved helped, hurt, and
hindered my blazing spirit.
A hero in my heart-I left you
down in your deep black
slumber.
Escaping those terrible nights
To go for the town of delights.

MONEY BANK 2

Let the stream of cash in, flood-gate
Like the Casino, I'll keep chips in your plate
Big-ballin', throw it in the pot, high stakes
Don't sleep, keep watch for fakes and snakes
So much dead pres' to burn, it's a crime
Surprised I ain't in the Feds, doing hard time

Making all this cash, you could say I invented it

Moving fast, speeding, put up a road-block, no preventin' it

I'm on a roll, pull out the spikes, can't flatten my tire

Gettin' this money on the low, but it takes me higher

Selling Mary J, Molly, and that white girl, no prostitution

Moving X and D, in the middle of finding a solution

I ain't doing algebra, money plus problems equals murder

Money talks, and all I hear from you is a murmur?

You poor, but I ain't talking 'bout serving drinks

I'm Balling, my chain's like a fence, got a lot of links

Back then, they locked me out, cash was the key to the door

I started from the bottom, got it from the floor

Dirty money, let it accumulate, sweep it with a broom

Wipe-out the marks with a mop, keep a clean room

Money keeps me ahead of the game, avoid defeat

I'm on the road to success, it's a one-way street

Love Endures

Love floats by,

reaching,
tantalising,
meandering,

tip-toeing past pain,

leaping through walls,
weakening the barricades,

of the most private heart.

Love settles in,

trusting,
searching,
dissolving,

quietly beyond anguish,

erasing the desolation,
soothing a battered spirit,
enveloping the shivering soul.

Love stays, it is true,

love endures, as do you

You and I.

You.

Your heart blazed,
with a warmth of spirit,

soothing,

alluring,

soaked in truth.

Your smile burned,
branding me permanently,

gentle,

tender,

enveloping my being.

Your love was complete,
from the depths of your soul,

unsaid,

yet fierce,

bathed in silent knowing.

Your dreams were poetic,
fluttering in the afternoon breeze,
infused with the distilled essence of rhyme.

I.

I squandered your generosity of spirit.

I vainly discarded your priceless poems.

Now I stand,

alone,

empty,

desolate,

wasting away,

rotting inside, day by day.

A Simple Wish

a simple wish...

no fancy words
no more clever rhymes
no more slickly crafted verse

just a simple wish
to cherish the moments
in-between the hue and cry of this life

no more the dull-edged jab
no more the anger and the strife

a simple wish
beyond the wasted hours and the days and the blurry fears

a simple wish
of a simpler life

after all the bitterness of the passing years

and so

to retire from the hustle
to flee from the hollow wasted breaths that have been breathed

to bid the emptiness farewell

while

ushering in the new tomorrow

bathed in the soft glow of hope

and kissing adieu to all the hurt and all the doleful sorrow...

Break Me Wide Open

Go ahead!
Break me wide open
spread me out thin
Thin...as the dough beneath the well dusted rolling pin

Slender my edges and refine my rounded shape
push me away from you with each forceful roll
extend me
in our mutual exertion to define it

Yes...do straighten me slowly carefully gently lovingly...this time
as the white page spread beneath the 17th century palm in hopeful contemplation
Indeed serious intent born of the preciousness of the white page alone
Can you feel the writer catching his breath with which to begin
Yes I FEEL YOU catching yours just now
In brave... bravest planned intent

So... this time break me wide
But also.... then true

The confession after the lie that has lain between us for years in good stead

As the little perfect pale egg in your bowl on any given Saturday morning
with a single sudden tap
just a brisk strike
...spoken from bowed head and with averted eyes
that you will insist on bringing round to meet mine
Lest I find weakness in your delivery and once more deny you this

Go ahead...try to write out the final passages of this our tall and long tale
You may use an ink well if you wish and a quill
If it will add romance...ambiance
nuance
But first you will need to erase...the expression on your face when you last saw me for the first
Your face filled with the sudden sunlight of your own unencumbered sunrise breaking wide open
across your tired sky
at the first crest of my visage embrace
With pupils dilating and grin spread vista wide across yours only breathtaking gorgeous lined face
Go ahead mine truest love
Break me wide open for the sky
that I can love the world in perfection
Before I die

Burnin' Knuckles

Your lookin over burnin' knuckles into the road,
There it goes,
But you don't even know your destination so,
With a shake of your head,
On goes the trip,
And a whispered three words,
This isn't it.

  Guided by a light,
Of thirty or fourty feet,
But your being driven by a heart,
That has forgotten how to beat.

   Oh No,
Here we go,
Another mile turns into another night,
Another day to drive right outta sight,
Ohhh it's a rollercoaster horror ride.
When looking over burning knuckles into the road,

Oh it's a roller coaster horror ride,
Lookin over burnin' knuckles into the road,
Your lookin over burnin' knuckles into the road,
An' there it goes,
But you don't even know destination so,
With a shake of your head,
On goes the trip,
And a whispered three words,
This isn't it.

On it goes_ this isn't it,
On it goes_ this isn't it,
Your trip_ Into the unknown,
While lookin over burnin' knuckles into the road,
And guided by a light,
An' a heart_ that has forgotten how to beat.

Your lookin over burnin' knuckles into the road,
Strainin eye's on a light that guides,
Our way through what we dont know.

Ohh it's a rollercoaster horror ride,
Being guided by the lonely nights,
While lookin over,
Burnin' knuckles,
Into the road.

Scratching for my truths,
peeling away the veneer,

Winter Winds

Winter winds blow all around.
I’m astonished by the sounds of Jingle Bells and reindeer stomps.
All of this should never stop.
Snow lies on the ground, if only that weren't too profound.
Time only leads to decay, but not on Christmas, not today.
You should see the angels pray.
Toy trains, and rag dolls are the things kids used to want.
But time has changed, yes so have children…
Santa seems as if a villain.
So much fighting, so much crying, it sounds as if the kids are dying.
“I want money, I want fame, and these toys are just so lame.”
But that’s the product we provided.
Second chances are no more, Santa’s plot we wait for.
He’s sick of this, he doesn't care, it’s as if he’s not wanted here.
He gets ready to take it all back….
WAIT!
There’s still one toy left in his sack, it’s for a little girl, half a world away.
Now how could he have missed this, on the perfect Christmas day?
He turns around, not time for war.
This toy, the girl is waiting for… It’s not a toy like you’d expect.
She didn't ask for electronics, or stupid games such as Sonic.
She just wanted one small thing…
She’s waiting for something EXTRA special this gloomy day.
In a bed she sits and stares, at the window near a chair.
She’s so weak, and all alone.
She doesn't even have a real home, not where there are bright lights anyways.
They've decorated a weeping willow, the only tree around the “home”.
So she has lights to see.
It’s Christmas after all, but there’s no way to calm the raging sea.
She’s dying, it won’t take much longer, and she doesn't care about the tree.
She needs a new heart extra bad.
So, Santa’s bringing her the one thing, that will stop her parents from being sad.
He rushes to the hospital in his golden sleigh, and climbs right down the vent,
He’s saving Christmas today.
Santa rushes in just in time, finds a doctor, the girl is dying.
It’s not what he usually does, but he stays and watches as they save her life.
He waits for her to wake up.
“Santa, you saved my life, oh thank you so much! I needed my heart to be touched.”
He just smiles, and kisses her hand. He’s so glad he didn't destroy the land.
Christmas is still a special day.
There’s no more sorrow, no, not today. Santa smiles though some are still ungrateful.
There’s that one child, standing in the snow, her life can now be started in the evening glow. That’s life for the grateful, loving, caring, and the thankful. Most of the time Santa just gives toys. For all the good girls and boys. But not today, and not tomorrow, once a year he gets rid of sorrow. So sleep tight and say your prayers, Christmas time is but once a year.

Where We,
Had Made Plans To Meet ... "

And I Waited & Waited
For You To Come
I Waited Until
The Morning Sun
And Then I Could
Wait No More ...
For The Rains
Had Started To Pour ...

Alas, My Soul
My Love, My Heart
My Happiness, My Hope
Once Bright
... Now Dark
Drenched & Merged
On That Muddied Path
& In Puddles In The Grass

... there Splashed The Plans
That We Had Made
To Meet-Right There
and Run Away
and Escape
Into The Night
With A Brand New Start
In Sight ...

But Now I Pace
This Path Alone
With Footsteps Faced
Towards The Unknown
But Wait - Tho' Late
& Past The Storm
... I Run Into
Trustworthy Arms ! ...

" In The Pathway Of Light
We Have Seen
Our Starry Dreams
and Mist-Moonbeams
In The Garden,
They Fall At Our Feet
Where We Dance
To Love's Heartbeats "

Children with Masks

Broken in your shadow
And lost within your light
The child who chooses ego
And the man who wants to fly

Embracing every sanctum
Which enshrines your dying cause
To be the one to save you
And forget those scars and sores

The love you now desire
The only good you've known
Will end with how it started
In the pain that you have grown

With loneliness now clinging
Your memory rotting out
You chase the same old reasons
That will make you scream and shout

Your heart now lacks forgiveness
For what you have become
The spiral-end of nothing
Mistaking blindness for the sun

A visage of perfection
This man is just a mask
It reflects your hate on others
As the child selfishly attacks

The Sieve of Time

The Sieve of Time

Cast ashore,
along the banks of time,

whirling through the passing years,
clinging to my futile scribbles set in rhyme,

Cast ashore,
thrust into an unrehearsed pantomime,

clenching slivers of joy as weariness descends,
lulled into a peaceful slumber exhilaratingly sublime.

Cast ashore,
hazily adrift, a dandelion seed on the wings of time,

trapped in the sieve of spiralling memories,
caught between pristine bliss, and reeking slime.

Cast ashore,
flung aside for no discernible crime,

my human heart thuds with elusive hope,
though battered, bruised, and covered in grime,

I stagger ashore,

alone,

embracing each moment of detached, oblivious time.

Distant African Nights

Those Distant African Nights...

1.

The shadows swayed in your candlelit room,

a cool breeze teasing your bare back,

streaks of lightning forked in the Johannesburg night,

as my hands stroked your hair,

kissing your soft mouth,

holding you,

ever so tight.

2.

You whispered that you loved me,

and I kept silent,

the rain fell,
shadows danced,
thunder rolled,

the breeze teased your naked back,

you whispered that you loved me,
as my lips found yours,

the rain washed over our tender nights,

lightning and candlelight,

etching poems on your burnished skin,

yet,

a fear gnawed at me,

deep within.

3.

We parted ways,
and you could never forgive me, you said,

now, after numberless thunderstorms,

the rain that falls,

echo the countless tears that I have shed.

4.

You are long gone,

far away,

happy, I pray,

yet the memories persist,

those precious moments shall never,
ever,

like the Jo'burg rains,
trickle away,

and I wish you well,
for loving me as you did,

for it was I who was not worthy,

then,

and it is I who is not worthy,

now...

5.

You were always true,

it was I who always,

always,

refused to,

to give myself,

completely to you.

The Horizon of Perception

If you stare at the sun long enough,

your eyes will become the desert

they’ve always failed to see;

Just beyond the limits of their

perception. Empty, dry and tragic.

If you stare into a pool of water

long enough, you’ll see the vivid

reflection of years meant to wade

through relevance, yet stopped short,

trapped in the irises you’ve held

in a skull destined to become part

of an ocean’s reef; another story

lodged in the coral of ironic distraction.

If you read these words, and look into

yourself

                 …just long enough

You’ll see a life meant to be defined

not by the elements around you,

but by the intention in which you

choose to see, and be seen.

The ripples in the water,

made by your stroke could

drown you, or push you further

toward a destiny written in the

eyes of elements curated by a

glow not of the sun, but of your own.

You are at the helm,

twaddling notes, denoting

the curious expectations of

a young drifting sum of celestial

coordination. Where you go is

up to you. What you see, feel,

what you hear, taste,

What you change…

is in the heart of each moment

you continue to turn the cogs

of understanding, and breathe in

the truth of why the wind pushes

you toward a horizon that continues

to stray.

The Fire and the Warrior

Out of the fire,
Life grows.
The flames burn strong,
Bold,
And sear my soul.
My heart grows faint,
Weary.
The pain,
The intolerable pain,
Burning.

Yea, though I walk through the valley
Of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
I will fear no evil in the flames,
Searing,
Searching,
To cleanse my soul;
To release the Light
In the dark night
of my soul.

In the fire,
Love brings forth life
Out of pain;
Darkness exposed;
Evil released;
My heart cleansed
Set free;
Life grows.

Shall I endure
For lessons to be learned
And freedom to obtain?
Shall I wait upon the Lord
To be set free?
Will I persevere?

The Warrior rises up;
To fight;
To endure;
For victory is sought.
Out of fire
New life grows.

The journey long
And narrow is the way.
The day becomes night
My heart weary
Loses might;
Becoming faint;
Despair.

The Warrior,
Champion of my soul
Rises up,
To fight,
To endure;
To persevere;
For victory to claim.
Out of the fire
New life grows
Giving rise to hope.

A Chipped Heart

A Chipped Heart...

Dreaming, my heart brittle as glass,
my solitary facade a pitiful farce,

shards tearing out of my skin,
seeking release, from cages within,

I am lost, in the dream,
bellowing out a silent scream,

torn from reality, drowning in the now,
yet I refuse,
I refuse to succumb,

I refuse to bow.

My chipped heart, may be wounded,
wreathed in pain,

still,

I believe, love, truth, belonging,

will take my hand,

again...

Within Me

Within Me

Flowing through the rivulets of my everyday thoughts,
memories of you surface, gasping for air, breathing in,
permeating, absorbed by the pores of my ageing skin.

Famished, greedily gulping mouthfuls of fractured life,
awash in distant yesteryear, when your feathery kisses,
banished the vacuum, dispelling my anguish and strife.

You are eternally carved, and embroidered into my soul,
I wash ashore, smashing against the boulders of the now,
seeking solace, begging for absolution with my empty bowl.

The book of fate is sealed shut, the tea-leaves have been read,
nothing remains within me, the burden of smiling has been shed.

Now I am stranded, between dreams and the empty years ahead,
searching for forgiveness, in the miles I have yet to wearily tread.

Passion in D-Major

Passion in D-Major

Feeling, the sensuous brush-
strokes on a canvas,

swirling,

to a symphonic crescendo,

of our shared heartbeats,

fading between the notes,

feeling your soft body entwined
with mine,

your form bathed in my infinite
kisses,

our orchestral desire rising,

conducting a shared fusing of
passion,

... the music echoing ...

over the precipice,

on the brink of dazzling rainbow
hues,

lost in the void,
of an eternal instant,

plunging through the depths of
rhyme,

pleading,
forever pleading,

for a prolonged,

bouquet of shared time.

Blasphemy

Blasphemy

The caustic tongues of the evangelists,
Across all creeds and faiths,
Seem as brittle as an old bone.

For they promise heaven and they spew forth threats of hell
While neglecting the words of that man who walked in Galilee

'let him who is without sin, cast the first stone'

the caustic tongues of the evangelists...

across all religions
new-age and the ones of old
baffle me even as I hear
a single simplistic sermon

for they really do, view us all
as blind imbeciles
scurrying around like faithless vermin

the caustic tongues of the evangelists...

wag on and dazzle us with visions of an eternal paradise
while here and now
their hypocrisy festers
within their earnest
well-meaning eyes...

'...dil mein hai khwaaish-e-hoor-o-jannat
aur zaahir mein shauk-e-ibaadat
bas hamen sheikh-ji aap jaise
allah-waalon se allah bachaaye...'

'...in your heart you desire the maidens of heaven
yet in the now you practice the rituals of piety
o' sheikh, may allah protect me
from the people of allah like yourself...'

is my tongue as caustic as the tongues I write about?
if so, then glad am I
for they shouldn't be the only ones
who preach and rant and continually shout

from their pulpits ever so high in the sky
from their hubris of comfort in possessing the 'truth'

from their 'knowing' that heaven or hell
awaits both the strong as well as the meek

while oblivious to the reeking foul smell
that encourages prejudice and hate
and visions not of peace
but of endless chants and prayers

which they, in their opium haze
rattle on and on
as they never seem to cease to speak

and though I’m sure that all this bile that I have spewed
will threaten
hurt
and offend

friend and
unfriend and
acquaintance alike

but...

take pity on me instead
for it'll surely be I
who'll burn eternally
impaled by a benevolent god
on a slightly warmer than normal day in hell

on a crude wooden spike.

Illegitimi non Carborundum

Illegitimi non carborundum ;-)

...Staggering, my vision cloudy,

I fall to the hard ground.

when life’s sharp left-jab leaves my face bloody,

and all that surrounds me, is the desolation of loss I feel all around.

I see myself slipping,

down the abyss to where nothingness exists,

still, I cling on, groping for a foothold,

for my will to stay persists.

I clamber up, I stand my ground, though battered and bruised I may be,

my curtain is not falling yet, I have some fight still left in me.

It is then, in the pit of despair, when all seems bleak and painful and dull,

I summon the strength from deep within,

I rise, slowly, to face the day,

I refuse to sink,

to wallow, to surrender, to throw in the towel,

to drown,

for I am stronger now,

indeed I am, after all the years, and all the battles,

I stand, bruised and bloody,

still,

I stand,

I refuse, to sink, to drown,

for they can try, to punish me some more,

but I shall not allow them to grind me down…

She

She

She smiled, gently,
her warmth infusing me,
with a serene stillness of time.

She settled, slowly,
in my waking thoughts,
a soothing balm of simple joy.

She remains, scribbled,
on the walls of my fractured heart,
memories of happiness that once breathed...

Sand Storm

Waking from the starry illusion of my own shadowed reality
Bending towards the wings
Rearing to take flight
Though the delight will be sweetened with the bitter taste of the wait
Wait I shall

Best foot forward so they claim
Until you’ve come to realize through this thick haze
That it “twas only a mere miss take of footing”
Out the gate

Return to me thine keys
Gracefully place them upon my stake
Look back no more
For there weren’t no mistakes to have been made
Only serrated sightseeing taking up valuable space

Filling the void if it’s mound
Inward wasn’t so bound outward
There could be no cries found
Only casted cradles gauged in sound
Again waiting to be found

After all I must assume some parish to my find
For in simplest terms
My own reality is rather blankly missing its own reality in kind
Unjustified by the creator
I’ve yet to combine with the agitated truth that awaits my mindful mind
Blustering to the rind

MLK - 1929 - 1968

MLK...
(January 15, 1929 – April 4, 1968)

they shot you down
all those years ago

but

your dream lives on
and always will

for though much has been
gained since you dreamed
your dream

there is much to fight for
and much more to struggle for

and much, much more
to fight for still

so
your dream resounds in
our hearts and we pledge
this to you today
for though they shot you down
all those years ago on a memphis day
we shall overcome
this we do believe
deep in our hearts
that
we shall overcome
someday...

A Step In Front

Dawn Collette Mclaughlin

future is a journey
The steps we walk forward
Every now and then
A crack in our path
Making a obstacle
Swerve in a broken track
Just keep walking
With your head up high
Missing the ground of faults
With a smile stroll tall
Fate is all in front
Since the minute we are born
So leave the negative
Infuse positive breath it

Lost

Hands stir sand,
pluck dead skin.
 Eyes endeavor to reach
the end of the horizon,
fight the blur of woe.
Throats cough against
stale lips that can no longer
harbor tasting tongues.
Dizzy bones linger inside
unkempt sacks of wonder,
hoping to find rain in a
place where there is none.
The sun beckons the lost forward.
The first blush,
and the last scowl of day
taunts their souls…
Feet leave their mark
in a place soon to be
entombed.

Passengers on the Train

A train that’s ridden from birth to death
Picking up passengers along the way
Some people there as short as a breath
Others that are there almost every day

I watch as some people keep their distance
Tending to their personal needs
Attempts to connect, met with resistance
And so without them life proceeds

Family and friends add comfort to the ride
Sharing the adventure for a while
Friends depart, from the group they divide
Some with regret, others hostile

Passing from one train to another
Changing their chosen path
Taking the memories with each other
Connecting as though a telepath

Family leaves like they've been derailed
Their journey ends at their final stop
Their purpose is now completely unveiled
Remembered with every tear drop

The train picks up speed as time passes
Hurriedly approaching the destination
Achievement and loss slowly amasses
Working to live through compensation

It reaches the end, the train clears out
All your loose ends are tied up
Now the unknown fills you with doubt
As the end of the line creeps up

Through the mist

alone in the midst of hugest white clouds
chilly cold creeps in like thieves in the night
unfeeling ears numbed by frost for all shouts
crippled eyes gaze at a view without sight
floating feet cleave the white ghost which enshrouds
tiny tentacles with snowy white light
conquering on the sly all and sundry
lost ways in the mist's toughest cross country

Road Trip

...Just because the road got a little bumpy,
That didn't mean I was going to pull over,
                 get out,
and sit on the side of the road and give up.
                                            I kept going.
And at the end of the road, there was a dead end sign...
                 but did that stop me?
                           No.
I parked the car,
     got out,
and continued on foot.
Eventually I came to the brink of a huge mountain
and looked up
and thought it was impossible to climb.
           But did that stop me?
                       No.
I tried anyway and started climbing.
Once I got to the top,
I turned around and looked over the mountain
and I could see the smooth road
     that turned into bumpy gravel
that came to a dead end
that came to the bottom of this mountain...
everything that has tried to stop me.
And suddenly, I realized
that I now stood higher...
       above it all...
and now look how little it looks...

Port of Call

Port of Call

Barefoot on a talcum beach,

alone, not lonely,

with the breath of the ocean a caressing balm,
soothing pained memories away,
to the swaying of a solitary palm.

Barefoot on a talcum beach,

alone, not lonely,

feeling the brushing away of all past turmoil,
on a quest for solace, ever so hard to find,
yet comforted by the crashing of the waves,
as the tide cleanses all pain,
and leaves despair far, far behind.

Barefoot on a talcum beach,

alone, not lonely,

drenched in a sea-breeze of mist,
that hushes the ache of bygone moons,
tasting the salty tang on my lips,
as the burnished sun,
over the distant horizon,
swoons,

and dips.

Barefoot on a talcum beach,

alone, not lonely,

searching, ever searching,
for a slice of solitude,
as memory bids a final adieu,
reaching under the sea so vast,
and seeking comfort in the depths,
while embracing,
the tomorrows to come,
wishing that they be true.

Barefoot on a talcum beach,

alone, not lonely,

seeing my truths drown,
as they slip beneath the turquoise waters,

feeling my heart ablaze,
with a passion that rarely falters.

Barefoot on a talcum beach,

alone, not lonely,

yet knowing that I am home at long last,
wishing the waves would wash away,
the defences that once stood,
like an impregnable wall.

Barefoot on a talcum beach,

alone, not lonely,

I have found, at long last,

my final port of call.

For Bob Dylan

Ramblin' Bob Dylan Blues
(For Bob Dylan)

Why does the sun dry up so many scattered tears

slipping down the coarse cheek of a million hushed fears

where no one is scalded though the searing fog clears

while prayers are mutely spoken even as the end nears

We shatter and scrape on demented knees

Blindly begging for mercy as it silently flees

Searching listlessly for salvation drowned in the breeze

That spits at the soft rose suffocated by a wheeze

I know now what I need never have known

Of hope that was trampled before it had flown

Into a wasted sky filled with hate that could drown

The giggling of the crowd and the crying of the clown

A hope so fragile that its wings were of brittle glass

Ripping the veneer off the sewers of class

Twisting the fabric of the weighed and costed mass

Who numbly waited hoping that it too may pass

For when shards of that hope in all hearts scurries away

To a darkness where crowded night is emptied off the heaving tray

'Tis then when sewn eyes shall behold that doleful day

When all shall tear at each other while on demented knees we still shall pray

For a lifting of the veil of that wilful deceit

That's wrapped up in a flag swollen with conceit

While the limbs splinter in the claw of a winner's defeat

Yet still the drums roll for the ill-fated souls chose never to retreat

From that drenched battle-ground where blood flows through a sieve

And love's lost song plaintively begs for a reprieve

From eternal loss which into raw emotion does cleave

Only to slip through the fingers and like grains of sand, leave.

Saturday Rain in Johannesburg

Saturday Rain in Johannesburg…

…With sighs of torrential passion,
the heavens shower teardrops,

weeping with me,
as memories of you come cascading back,

skin on skin, ablaze,
moist kisses, fiery,
gentle whispers of undying love, murmured,

in another life, another time,

far removed from my present, a desolate state of despair,
wallowing in the grime.

…

The rain keeps falling,
each teardrop stinging my face,

tasting the salt on my lips,

I wonder, do you still remember the caresses of my fingertips,

between breathy confessions, and vows of eternal love,

before you left me, stranded on an island of solitude,

wounded as a wingless dove,

bereft of life,
stripped of all traces of fortitude

Yet despite my facial mask of age the clubs won’t let me in

STATE OF DISARRAY

In an age
Where souls are pawned
For fame and wealth

A time when
Good and evil
Cease to war

A period where
Men passed, and
Weaklings arose

A place which
Breaks my heart
yet fuels my limbs

A land whose
Stain I loathe
But name I bear

A people who
Curse the stench
Yet eat the feces
Here, I’m to call home
Home or desert?

My path is vast
So I call it home
But journey it is

I hope to sleep
And wake in a time
Where men are men.

Love's Call to Surrender

Love’s call to surrender within;
Heed Love’s voice to win
     healing in the end
     will not offend.
My blind eyes caution,
Sensing danger often;
Alerting vigilance to what lurks behind in darkness.
But Love’s call offers hardened hearts to soften
     and set the captives free
from what my blind eyes see.

My heart cries out
     with fear and doubt,
“Will Love save from poison darts
     aimed at this heart?”
“Will Love save?
Remove barriers within
     to let Love in?”
The journey begins,
With faith as mustard seed,
When Love’s call I heed.

metaphorically speaking

Imagine if for once I could smile at my storm
Or that by some chance I could be accepted by the norm
What if I really did find the pot at the end of the rainbow
What if all my hurts and pains I could finally just let go

Maybe the grass is greener on the other side
Or that from past mistakes and guilt I didn't have to hide
What if my life started to turn out how I planned
And no longer made to feel like a man that is damned

If by chance all that glitters is really gold
Could my pride allow me to speak of things untold
Or even better if I found the needle in the haystack
Would that then stop the straw that broke the camels back

The grass is green and we accept the sky is blue
Can I accept that I am really loved too
Could I be me for just a 24 hour slot
if I had a magic wand all my fears I could blot

If I went and travelled over the hills and far away
There I would take my troubles and on the ground gently lay
I then wouldn't have to travel back in my sea of grief
Instead I would search high and low so that time is no longer a thief

There's a lot I would do different and things I would do the same
But perhaps I'd try harder not to be the loser in the game
They say that it never rains but it pours
Would I ever be able to beat my high score

Its often been said that I'm as cold as ice
But I've learnt that once bitten it will not happen twice
Or what if every little makes a mukkle
Then under the strain of life I wouldn't have to buckle

What if I have counted my chickens before they did hatch
Maybe then I wouldn't be in this 24 of a catch
Perhaps, what ifs, maybe's or suppose
My life has been planned and that path only God knows

She has no idea

She wrote it on his skin,
and he hoped that
it would sink in.
It was just a phone number,
but he thought of it as coordinates,
that once he left the bar,
the darkness,
he would find something,
something worth leaving for.
He remembered the way she
smiled as she wrote,
the way her nails carved into
his hate of that place;
That the fact that she was there,
made up for the dirty glasses
and watered down drinks,
the stale smoke,
and the crooked toothed lounge singer.
He got to his car,
and warmed up
the heart of a new journey.
Lit a cigarette with the lighter
she left, before kissing the
neck of his shadow,
whispering to the wounds
he was so used to drowning in.
As he exhaled the first puff,
he watched his tachometer
steadily rise, red, angry
revolutions, memories,
nightmares...regret
swelled against the
windshield, blurry.

In Absence

Through the journeys
I have foreseen,
Not an answer
To be found.

And through the times
I have waited through,
Not besides itself
Had phased me.

Along the roads
One shall travel
Through trials
Unresolved.

As mortality with
Sickle and stone
Shall take those
Beside me

Its horse in reigns
Ever comforting
To those
Without mercy

As soon
Absence shall arise
From what had once
Been time of suffering

Yet afar
One believes to run
To avoid
Such destiny

War had been waged
Against the inevitable;
A force ever
Threatening

How polite of it
To resume after myself,

As its realm continues,

In absence.

A Hollow Shell

a hollow shell
of tangled synapses
sparked into gradual madness
which drowns out the truths of the day
as the mind reeks of the rotten sad moments
that swirl in the rancid soup of forgotten dreams
dreams that once traced a gentle path of innocence
dreams that reached for pure love’s tender touch
dreams now paralysed but once vivaciously alive
what became of those fresh dreams and hopes
as they lie mustily on dusty bookshelves
torn into shreds by time’s fine scimitar
devoid of the touch of raw passion
when all that remains of love is
a hollow shell

Gibbs Free Energy

I am teetering at the brim of progress
The self I spend to be of worth
Is the same self that I had to earn

And to what end?
I ask,
At what fee?
The ones that stand down do so for free

And all that’s left is work for me
(Fr ,

         PdV)

I hauled up, masochistic Sisyphus
All they did was balk
Scatter, Jack and Jill
Emptily talk
About how hard, how far
Never
I could not

And then for an instant I was on top

[King parenthetical]

They stood with their calculators
Screaming

But negative RTlnKeq ???
Kb T times ln W ???
Enthalpy minus T entropy,
Gives us the standard energy ???

I saw the people finally sap
It was halfway forward to halfway back

I felt something snap

And I fell unfathomably far
To a different bottom
A different problem

I stood intermediate at the foot of the unknown
Before a taller peak to dethrone

--
Note: Gibbs Free Energy (delta G) is a thermodynamic parameter used to describe reactions and stability in chemistry. It is common to see a diagram of delta G vs. reaction progress. These free energy diagrams consist of continuous curves with peaks and troughs. The lower the energy, the more stable.

Unfortunately you have to have significant background knowledge in chemistry to understand every reference.

The Dinosaur

Hide,
Scorched like gauze
Moving slowely and surefooted

A path no longer blazed yet
Bridges behind still burn

An opening,
A thousand eyes turn to stare
Fruitless in its search,
Faces no longer there

Disgruntled and aged
Grown shorter in its decline

The Dinosaur walks out of the
forest,
Onto the edge of time.

Wanderer

I, the wanderer, set out;
A journey
to overcome life’s oppression.
Fear crouches;
Always ready to attach depression.
Lurking,
life so unfair;
Monster in my dreams,
Waiting to unleash despair.

So many thoughts,
I hold desperately to hope,
To persevere and overcome
On this journey for which I’ve come.
Dare I trust while darkness enfolds?
Tired and often overwhelmed,
 To hope I hold.
Trusting peace will come again
When darkness disappears
Because love will triumph
And light dispels my fears.

I, the wanderer, set out;
A journey to overcome;
To see how far I’ve come;
Trust elusive as fear encroaches,
Peace reproaches;
But darkness stays the course
With no remorse.

with thanks to Don Henley

with thanks to Don Henley...

...an echo of her laugh

whispers past

a simple joy, a gentle breeze

of quiet reflection that can never last

the fleeting innocence once drifting along

then disappearing into the notes of that Don Henley song

the end, he sang, of the innocence once felt

of days and of nights of serene peace

gone forever now,

for into the night's void everything must eventually melt

though the memories and the thoughts

and the echoes of her whispers

settled this gypsy heart, putting it at ease

but that's all long gone now

even though the echoes of her whispers

seem never to cease...

The Tears of the Clown

The Tears of the Clown

A veil of smiles,
worn effortlessly.

Tuning out the blurring din,
alone in the cackling throng,

never hoping to belong,
though pining to fit-in.

Peeling off the thin facade,
feeling the pained charade,
melting into the dim parade.

Trickling effortlessly down,
over the strained contours,

of a spurious laugh,

the tears of the clown,

rehearsed, rehashed,

form an unending cold stream,
dissolving the lingering traces,

of this simple boy's dream

NOMAD OF LOVE

I am a nomad of love…
Wandering through deserts of despair
Camping in oasis that fade away
Hunting on land full of swift souls
And still I forge on.
I am a warrior of love…
Planning the best defense to protect
My heart standing knee deep in false hope
Fighting for a prize I have yet to find
And still I solider on.
I am an artist of love…
Molding my burning desires into shapes
Writing a song that dares to be sung
Painting a picture only I can see
And still I dream on.
I am a believer of love…
Preaching on theories that have no validity
Teaching a vision of both folk and faith
Praying for something I know must be
And always I move on.
Onward to the final destination.
That I know, that I feel, that I need
called love.

For Joni Mitchell

for joni mitchell...

wistful strands slipping by

of grounded dreams

that i once believed would fly...

strewn around this emptiness

where once there soared,
dreams, not of riches

but of simple happiness...

'both sides now' you sang,
from within

and from a feeling of being without

you moved me so, i cried, i laughed

i wanted to run into the falling rain and shout...

'its life's illusions that i recall' your voice soared and dipped and with life breathed

as every one of those words you sang

tore into me, as my very core seethed...

not with bitterness or loss or with feelings even vaguely sad

your words seethed and burned through me

igniting memories of this life i've shared...

with those who aren't illusions

of those who've embraced me

each time i've slipped and taken yet another fall...

for like you...

'i really don't know life at all'

In Between

There’s a moment when, crossing between two streetlamps, a double shadow appears,
arching from your fears, a body projected through years onto cracked concrete.
So, stopping, you watch it split in separate directions, no fixed perfections,
all later corrections point from now dividing as forces pull one into two,
coloured red or blue at different ends of the spectrum, matter is best left some space,
life isn’t a race in the traditional sense, but against the perception of yourself.
Worrying is bad for your health, because as much as television may scream in your ear,
grinding each individual gear, you need not wealth,
but a hand to pick you up and dust you off when you fall,
no problem at all, giving pats on the back, setting the wheels back on the track,
in motion again you walk on from staring at your shadow, standing won’t help you grow.
And I know it says not to walk towards the light, but this time it’s alright,
because looking back won’t help either. As a fighter, neither Rocky nor Rambo,
you face the night ahead, spit to clear your mouth of lead, and strut on son,
because you are only born once, and you only die once,
but it’s what you do between the two that makes you awesome.

Searching

Searching

Searching,
in the debris of the past,
scraps of casually discarded emotion.

Searching,
in hastily trashed yesterdays,
an inkling of moments flung away.

Searching,
in heaps of rubbished words,
that tiresome sigh of defeated thought.

Searching,
in the layers of moulted skin
the wilting self that once was true.

Searching,
in the reflections between the ripples,
for the whispered pangs of roaring desire.

Searching,
in the blank eyes streaming endlessly,
an echo of the faintest sigh of new life.

Searching.

Rain in the City

as the rain falls on the city

all words

seem drenched

running like worthless ink off meaningless paper

yet

the rain falls incessantly on

in sheets of glassy vehemence

tearing my thoughts apart

splintering the fragile truce of this night

words, just worthless words

floating by

wrestling me to the ground

worthless words

devoid of all feeling, and of everything that should be true

disjointed and hollow

as my thoughts in melancholic comfort wallow

wrapping me in a shroud of accepted gloom

a vain cloak of indulgence,
while revelling in the impending doom

and still the rain keeps pouring

clipping the wings of my dreams

that are no longer intent on soaring

but why do i subject you

to all this idle and quite bitter chatter

for when all is said and done and scribbled

will any of this matter?

so i take leave of you, yet again

as i surrender

to the lunacy of the sane

and to the whipping

of the cold, biting harrowing rain...

The Sire's Journey

Off to mountains he climbs
Whilst staying in his mind.
Off to battles he goes
Defeating many foes.

The nature of his quest
Unruly as it may be,
Sings noiselessly in the air.
It cries and screams,
Yet pride smirks on his face.
It wriggles and squeals,
Yet his begotten one he will not yield.

His words speak kindly to it,
Soft like the wind,
Yet harsh they become
Like leaves rushing through the mountains’ wrath,
To those who may bring it harm.

Invisible string links them no matter the distance,
And at the beckoning call it grows taller than trees,
And has become stronger than the foundation of the earth.

Off to mountains it climbs
Whilst staying in its mind.
Off to battles it goes
Defeating many foes.

SSRI's and I

SSRI's and I ...

... the sounds of thoughts clattering, my neurones sparking,
like Dylan said, my morning recedes jingling and a-jangling,

worn down by this leaden knot, tearing my insides out,
the cacophony drowned in a whisper, lost in a silent shout,

dreams and screams scratching the back of my dry throat,
caged in, liberation hovering like a mirage beyond the moat.

I claw my way, slowly, through a thicket of solitude,
feeling my emotions peeling, stung by unseen nettles,

crawling to an open field, to rest, beneath a sky ablaze with stars,
as my mind glides, brushing the soft grass as it peacefully settles ...

Ludwig and Vincent

Ludwig & Vincent...

‘They said that you were mad, Vincent’, whispered Ludwig to a silent Vincent.

‘I still am, quite insane’, replied Vincent, ‘but you, dear Ludwig, you were deaf, and mad, I hear’.

‘I listened with my soul, Vincent, I heard it all without hearing a sound. Yes, mad and deaf indeed I too, still am’, Ludwig said, smiling at Vincent.

‘just look at them now’, Vincent replied, smiling with Ludwig, ‘look at them now, as they hawk sunflowers, blissfully oblivious of exquisite starry nights’.

‘yes’, smiled Ludwig, ‘look at them now, they crave joy, yet they cannot hear an ode, dear Vincent, they cannot hear it! They do not care enough to hear’.

‘Yes, dear Ludwig’, Vincent sighed, ‘they do not care enough to hear’.

Ludwig and Vincent smiled, each tugging an ear.

As I awoke this morning the strangest feeling came upon me
The air was thick yet clean

The water surrounding me though murky
Holds clarity of the visions I'm to see

Suddenly unwittingly aware
Yet I don’t want to be

It’s all so bitter sweet
Tangy although a treat
To be a piece of the puzzle so neatly incomplete
Yet the pieces fit so perfectly

Clearly my mind’s eye has been plagued
Yet not blind to the scrutiny in which it’s survived

Charmingly divine is the denial we’ve so cautiously danced around
Yet no elephant roams in home

Lingering is the question I’ve so cautiously avoided
Yet its answer I’ve owned all along

Wants and needs do differ in deed
Yet there personal importance is frowned upon
When standing tall and walking strong…

Night

night falls
wounded by the days' plight

night consumes
all the hopeful fractured splinters of light

night recedes
into its desolate lair

night extinguishes
the roaring furnace of despair

night hides
from a bubbling desire reaching out to feel

night flees
leaving the jilted to bow down and kneel

night soars
breaking the chains of isolation

night rots
in the cellars of time's vacuum of desolation

night devours
the travails of the day that has past

night mends
the wounds that once were doomed to last

night returns
faithfully as the day must retire

night settles
the doomed voices that mutter and conspire
night consoles
the weary mind and the restless heart so torn
night placates
knowing that night itself is darkest just before a new dawn

so

night freezes
all snapshots of the passing day

as

night embraces
the new while the old simply fades away

The Deluge

The Deluge.

finally the deluge

skipping in rhythmic heartbeats
the softly sprinkling rain

hums and lulls and cajoles and comforts
the weary evening

glistening leaves
on beaming trees

blades of grass shimmer
like rough diamonds strewn about

and settling in my heart
is the softly lilting touch
of peace
of truth

of the rain clearing away
the debris of this passing day

A Broken Blade of Grass

the broken blade of grass
trampled by random fate
lies shattered on the cold
ground

the oblivious slayer of hearts
saunters away nonchalantly
to a destination never to be found

where can I stumble to in this crazy beautiful vivid insane ugly real place that once was mine

when all that's left behind
is the cacophony of merciless
sound and while for silence I achingly pine

but in the end...

it all adds up to nought while that bitter taste persIsts and lingers

while we allow the magical moments to slip through our blistered fingers

until we awake one day from our innured dream that we cling onto while we sleep

finally conceding that beyond mere words, we were hardly ever, that deep

on the contrary, rather shallow we have been as we continue to shovel emptiness into that space so hollow

while lulling ourselves with the promise of the past, and ignoring the freshness of the morrow

a tomorrow filled with peace

a tomorrow once captive, but now on the brink of release

a tomorrow not consumed by the wasted time of the bygone past

but a tomorrow brimming with a gentleness meant to forever last...

Home

Home

Squirming through my skin,
moulting once again.

Roots flailing like rotting driftwood,
bashed upon the merciless shore.

Home awaits the weary traveller,
to comfort and offer solace.
No home awaits me,
mere bricks and scattered memories.

Lost in the folds of memory,
a withered identity beyond recall.

Home.

Long misplaced by the wayside,
forever gone, vanished in time.

Home.

As skin moults with dreary repetition.

No home, no place of solace.

For I left myself in a half-forgotten alley,

While I forever trawl for the way home.

Now

A collection of valiant philosophies fornicate my cranium
Philosophies that mere earthlings fail to fathom

This desire to birth from such a complex asylum
A power not of the world of which you and I speak

Neither comparison nor ability can be measured
One can try but his efforts shall equate to nothingness

Man may take from it what he wants if he must
Although the return will be of a much lesser degree

Patience is but a fallacy
Now is a gift that shan’t compose contrition

Love, Mania, and Verse

Love, Mania, and Verse

The pendulum swings,
while the mania in my head,
strips me bare and yanks me,
into the cauldron of love.

Once again,
never divining the tea leaves,
knowing, always knowing,
the gnawing knots of unease,
that curl into a fist.

My isolation is a shield,
a suit of armour,
tightly clad around my self,
once worn,
then discarded,
taking its place,
on my barren shelf.

Love, mania and verse,
coalesce, beseeching me,
with timeous forewarning,
not to tread into the quicksand,
that slippery bog of promise.

Yet,
in times past,
in moments present,
tis' that very promise,
that I cling to.

At times I lose,
myself in the crowd,
rebelling in the solitude found there,

at times I claw,
my way back to the now,
aching for the pain that stings,

the buried voice that sings,
dirges to forgotten emotions,

scribbled verse that flings,
the toys out of my cot,

while I wait,
for the mania to stop,

knowing,
always knowing,
that it shall be,

merely a matter of time,
before the other shoe,
must, as always,
drop.

Awake at Midnight

Awake at Midnight

sleep retreats
into tunnels of dewy thoughts

teasing the worn mind

awake at midnight
dreams recede

into caverns of mist
to brew their hazy potions

awake at midnight
weariness seduces the being

seeking to slip away
thirsting for solace in
the numbness of slumber
awake at midnight

still.

WARNING: Soppy Love Scribble

Walk with me,
in this lonely world,

where hearts are casually broken,
and kind words rarely spoken.

Take my hand,
on this highway of brittle glass,

where love is traded like blue-chip shares,
and bank-balances are coveted as priceless wares.

Smile with me,
as we walk hand in hand,

as the ocean tickles our toes on the cool beach sand.

Smile with me,
and I shall smile too,

we may not have much,

but you will have all of me,

and I will have all of you.

Vacuum

Callously discarding,

talismans of heart and soul,

hastily scorching all bridges,

in a supernova burying me whole,

retreating into emptiness,

no salvation to be found,

sins too many to absolve,

drowning, in a freshly
dug hole in the cold ground.

Hollow, empty, barren desolation closes in,

asphyxiating me,

within the walls of my dismal room,

sinking into the abyss,

disappearing, fading, lost forever,

inside an emotionless,

vacuum

We Shall Always be Many More

We Shall Always be Many More
(For the dispossessed of this world)

we shall always be many more
we who roast in your designer factories
our brows dripping with our salty sweat
we who may forgive but shall never forget

we shall always be many more
we who reek of cheap moonshine
we who stagger and often stumble
we whose stomachs never cease to rumble

we shall always be many more
we who polish your fine bone china
we whose pay gets docked if one cup is chipped
we who fight your wars, and off to battle get shipped

we shall always be many more
we who clean up after your pretty children
we whose kids are hungry, naked and get swept
into the bowels of desolation, as mothers’ tears are wept

we shall always be many more
we who do your dirty work each day
we who you treat like vermin, foul and rotten
we whose trampled dignity is always forgotten

we shall always be many more
we who will rise up and seize the light of hope
and reclaim what is ours for our daughters and sons
though we will always be in the cross-hairs of your guns

we shall always be many more
and there shall be many more of us still to come
to rid you of your smug arrogance and endless greed
for we too have children whom we have to feed

we shall always be many more
‘and the meek shall inherit the earth’
or something like that though we no longer care
for we shall rise up one day to demand our rightful share

we shall always be many more...

Masks

Masks.

Fingers,
clawing at my face,
slipping beneath the facade,

tugging, tearing, flailing,

stripping off the veneer,
exposing the fragmented decay,
cloaked,
under this mask I wear today.

Hands,
groping for another layer,
embroidered on my thin skin,

peeling, rotting, searing,

shaving away the truths,
entwined in a jagged kiss,
revealing,
the vacuum of an emotional abyss.

Fleeing,
from myself yet again,
bound for nothingness,

desolate, cold, empty,

lost on barren pathways,
bruising my heart as I tread,
shuddering,
at the horrors that lie ahead.

They Do Not See Me at All

They Do Not See Me at All

they do not see me at all...

as I walk through these desecrated avenues

of soul-deadening frenzy

I see them all rushing past me

and no matter how hard I try to holler and to call

they do not see me at all

it seems at times, that invisible am I

for when I reach out, and shriek out, and when on my knees I crawl

they rush past me

for they do not see me at all

I have tried to raise their ire, I have taunted and goaded them, till exhausted and fatigued, to the cold damp ground I fall

still they rush past me

for they do not see me at all

I stand mutely then and wave my hands all around while scribbling verses in my unintelligible scrawl

and yet they rush past me

for they do not see me at all

they rush past me, knocking me over without ever looking back

and then trampling over my fallen form, they look past my limp crumpled shadow, as they whine on in their monotonous drawl

for they do not see me at all

and when at last I see them look my way, and as a flicker of recognition crosses their faces

I wish to crawl back into my nothingness

where they cannot see me at all

Untitled 3

walking down trodden paths
craving peace
diluted, tepid, watered-down peace

etched lines on weather-beaten faces
craving release
final, open, unfettered release

crawling through today
seeking simple moments of silence
quiet, hushed, un-spoken silence

where will this road lead?
a dungeon of momentary respite
a hovel of worn-down exhaustion
where will this road lead?
from yesterday's torment
to today's promise
from past regrets
to tomorrow's solace
where will this road lead?
away from fear of regret of guilt
of grief of wrath of needling stabbing truth
where will this road lead?
now embarked upon with halting steps
gently treading between the thorns
to that transient place
not a destination
a caravan-serai of hope
a place of encompassing ease
of shackles broken
of hope released

to that abode
that elusive abode of peace
