Life is a Dance

Sometimes life is such a bore we run on automatic;
Then it’s time to tango for a dash of the dramatic.
Or when things are dull and only gusto will suffice,
We cha-cha or calypso to inject a dose of spice.

We hustle off to work each morning, foxtrot through the day
And hope that time’s electric slide just melts the hours away.
At clock-out time we say goodbye and jitterbug on out;
We hokey-pokey home because that’s what it’s all about.

Some easy days we waltz on by; we’re caught up in the swing
And lindy-hop or tap our way through all that life can bring.
We may go round in circles or, to deal with our despair,
Find someone we can partner with and do-so-do with flair.

For life is like a dance and we are held within its sway;
We dip and twirl and fake the steps, from polka to ballet.
The music of the atmosphere imbues us with its beat
And if we choose to hear it, we just follow with our feet.

We Danced Through Life

We danced amongst the stars that night
when joy had fallen far from sight

We danced under the sun so bright
And when all seemed lost, we held on tight

We danced to the music of hummingbirds
And we danced in the silence when there were no words.

We danced in the shadows of fear and doubt
And we danced when we questioned what life’s about

We danced amongst the evergreens
That posed for painters winter scenes.

We danced in the winters bitter chill
And when we danced our world stood still.

For that’s what love was meant to be
To find the dance when we cannot see.

To write a new song when the music stops
With lyrics that caress every tear that drops.

For when the rhythm changes and tempo slowed
We’re called to dance with the seeds we sowed.

For life is hard, there is no doubt
But Dancing through it, is what life’s about.

Life Is a Dance

Life is a dance we were all born to do. The styles to choose from are more than a few! Some choose simple two-step; some move with flair. Some slow dance; some break dance, devil-may-care! Some free style, while others just dance on cue. Some tango with zest; some shuffle soft-shoe. Others glide easily, waltzing on through. Some change their partners; some stay one pair. Life is a dance. You start with the styles in your own milieu, then grow as you add on new moves you view. You’ll stumble, but sometimes dance on sweet air! Just keep the beat; try new steps if you dare, for where you end up is all up to you. . . Life is a dance! For the Life Poetry Contest of Janis Thompson

Goodbye, My Child

Where cradled canyons sing
Of ebony wood in the forest
There lies a gurgling spring
Where cockcrows sing their chorus
To the melody of singsong birds
There I’ve concealed my sensuous words
Filled with befitted signs
The saccharine whiff of my designs

Come to me my mortal youth
To the wild realm of your truth
Where nymphs and gnomes abound
For the earth is filled with weeping
And only your tears be found

Where the fogs of night are fountains
Spills of glistened moon ignite
By distant silhouette mountains
We dance with passion of fight
Entwining ancient stance
Mingling hand in hand we dance
Till the mountains smile on high
Near and far we spring
To pursue the realest of dreams
While the world cries at its seams
Anxious in trouble to cling

Come to me my mortal youth
To the wild realm of your truth
Where nymphs and gnomes abound
For the earth is filled with weeping
And only your tears be found

To where the ridges merry make
From the beaks of wooden bright
In sparkly pools the ghouls awake
That scarce to stir our night
We watch for seekers down under
Muttering secrets in their soul
We bid them lucks of shivers
Dipping gently in
From reeds that hide a tear of a foal
Under the gentle rivers

Come to me my mortal youth
To the wild realm of your truth
Where nymphs and gnomes abound
For the earth is filled with weeping
And only your tears be found

Far away she shall ever churn
The taciturn eyed
She’ll listen no more to turn
To the working mills beside
Or the scrubbing of the barn
May peace weave in her song
She shall wave in the yarn
To a haven known as Belong

Come to me my mortal youth
To the wild realm of your truth
Where nymphs and gnomes abound
For the earth is filled with weeping
And only your tears be found

For she comes, the mortal youth
To the wild realm of her truth
Where nymphs and gnomes abound
For the earth is filled with weeping
And only her tears be found

Elegy for Michael Jackson (4)

Refrain
You shimmering waves on the ocean blue
Dance not again, he cannot dance with you
You weeping forests where the winds wail too
Let your bright tears fall in the pool of dew
The world of pop will never be the same again
The king is dead, and life is a dream so vain.

Do you ask me why does my sorrow flow so
Endlessly for him? Is he not gone the way
Of men that many went before? O I do know
My time may not be long, and lessons delay.
Who do think was the man in the mirror? did
You see us there, did you know it oppressed him
When like wanton dogs drugged and rabid
Went heedless along the callous way being dim.

Look at the dance videos again, tell me
You see the what he begs to beat it. Off the wall
Are shadows falling like an inner expose
Where he internalized the world, and yet did call
In many songs - his troubled world was us
But now the king's sun set to dust, and we
Remain to heed and weep the vanity of lust
The tangled truths of out tentacled history!

Michael was God's gift to our season, and how I
Wish he would dance for me across the tribal plains
Of Africa again, where warriors ride in the sky
Through the fire make us brothers without chains
A global oneness where dreams deny the child
Nothing again. O death, what oneness beyond this
Can we find? Treat him kindly there, be mild
To him who in this troubled life knew no bliss.

Michael I miss you; O genius, sleep now in peace
The storms of life are over, the lightning ends
And droughts will come again, but I'll never cease
To proclaim your virtues to foes and friends;
Sleep beloved. Your glory stream in summer's eye
And Harlem's street are filled, old men remember
And old women interrupt their planning to cry
Farewell, Michael ... the grandest star is but an ember.

Gypsy Dance

Climb up the hill where gypsies hide,
And breathe on the wind of a restless tide;
Where notes of sorrow from a violin,
Cry out to the night from a heart within.

The day is dim and night is alive,
And gypsies dance like bees in a hive;
They spin and turn while the fire burns bright,
And sparks fly up to kiss the night.

Old men sit while weaving a tale,
While young men sit drinking their ale;
And fires of night flicker and glow,
While the winds of night moan and blow.

They dance too fast, they dance too far;
They follow the light of a fallen star;
But there in the sky a sickle shaped moon,
Dances with gypsies in the fires of June.

Unspoken Words

Unspoken words, whispers on the waves of the ocean,
Time memories create a world for our friendship to live in.
You always heard the echos of my soul,
The dance within the shadows.
Friendship wears many a face.
Bonds of time, an era long gone by, an imprint of a lifetime
What the heart does, the soul follows, it remembers.
Words are merely a cue sheet,
The stroke of the ink becomes the drumbeat of a song called life.
I remember you, the essence in the weave of life.
Across the distance of time, I wish I could have said what I wanted to you,
Though your life burned shortly in the sky, I remember.
These are the unspoken words,
There are so many unanswered questions, yet I know what happened.
I followed you in the years to come in your footsteps never knowing,
Your art would become the edit of words.
We all have our path.
You may have chosen to end your life with secrets.
The power and essence of you were will live in the fabric of my soul.
I shall remember the woman that made me laugh.
The dance that was once our friendship.
The era that was once your life.

Conciliate

.
                Who says the broken
won’t still dance in the rain?
From the sky spills sweet champagne…

                  Arms wide spread
             Warm drops on your face
                    Laugh out loud …
               and dash the puddles!
Put on your boots and splash them!
Like a child, just crash them!

                   Excise the tears….
               embrace the out pour
Feel the sting on your skin
          (more alive than ever before)

       Gambol in a silver shimmer
Fits of giggles in the drizzle

         Misty showers springing flowers
as the spate will hide the pain
        Guileless merriment like a child
           ingenuous ballet in the rain…

               Prisms of light
                           shaded pink
                Glimmers in the water
     Reflecting physiognomies of the past
                 Incandescent spirits
          Luminescent white essence
                Elan Vitals replenish
             Inside of Mother Earth

                In a cycle of recycle

                 Beneath the canopy
                 of celestial powers
             Sway with the
                                 W
                                  I
                                     N
                                  D

              Undulate with the
                             T
                               R
                              E
                                E
                               S

                 Hearken…the chime
                  of natures breeze

           Soul enlightened
                       Senses heightened
                               Anew and brightened

From the sky falls sweet champagne….
Embrace your life and just dance in the rain....

A STEP HALF MADE

As lightening shone and thunder blew
I danced the dance that dancers do

They danced it back and asked if I
Would mind them dancing through the night

I thought no harm could come of this
Besides, such company I’ve missed

Thus, on we danced so unaware
That torrent rains beyond compare

Fell down in floods on higher ground
And like a wall came crashing down

Then somewhere in a step half made
The dance I danced was washed away

Now all that’s left for you to see:
Remains of the catastrophe

Oh, hopefully from this you’ll know
Don’t ever dance when thunder blows

Sometimes I Feel Beautiful

Sometimes I Feel Beautiful
Driving along thinking about what I’m about to do brings a smile to my face. Without a doubt my hair and nails make a big difference in the way I feel about myself! When I look pretty; I feel pretty.
Today my nails will be done in pink and white, oh yes, perfect they shall be. Nothing short of looking delicate and refined I tell myself. I am so excited; the anticipation brings joy into my heart and laughter to my lips!
My hair appointment is closing in. High lights and shaping adds a playful and fun demeanor. Beautiful is how it’s going to look and beautiful is how I’ll feel. I almost need to pinch myself for I wonder is this really happening to me! Tears sting my eyes and giggles flow forth. Yes; this is my life and this is happening to me!
Thinking of my new makeup and how youthful I’m going to look brings joy into this heart of mine. I can hardly wait to put it on as the excitement builds; I dance around and giggle. I feel so beautiful thinking how perfect I’ll look with everything finished.
At times I tell myself, “I know he loves me, I can tell”. The glowing in his eyes seems to sparkle with love and passion. My Heart beats a little faster as excitement and wonder fills my entire being! Yes, this is how it should always be, a life filled with joy and laughter.
Finding ways to look beautiful helps me feel beautiful. It’s this that causes me to giggle and dance about. The unbridled excitement loosened, flowing through my veins fills me with love and wanting. Tomorrow just maybe this joy will add new meaning and direction causing me to continue feeling beautiful..
                                                                                           Debbie Knapp

I've Scribbled This Song For You

I've Scribbled This Song For You...

I'm wasting my days,
my empty nights too,

I should have held on,
but I simply lost you,

now I stagger along,

wearing broken smiles,
in between hell and you,
there's a million miles,

yes, I should have kept,
you close to my skin,

soaking your warmth,
but you were laughing,

at my foolish grin...

now I'm all broken,
and torn apart,

but what the hell,
I was always late,
for the tolling of the bell,

and now...

now I stagger along,

wearing broken smiles,
in between hell and you,
there's a million miles,

so kiss me now like you once did,
I'm tired of being so carefully hid,

la laa laa la laa laa laa...

(repeat to fade)

Groundswell Girl - Named by JB

Enter a storybook tale
Where I can be
The heroine you hail
Lucid dreams of soft reflection
A touch heated with lust and desired protection
A breathe a gasp as we succeed
Join the fairytale with me
Valiant night within dark eyes
the right movement and I make them shine
like moonlight on the steamy hot spring
care to follow for a little dip with me
Trailing like the water at my fingertips
Grasp me around my hips
As close as the breeze on my skin
Whisper lies as I let you in
Lips mumbling up my thighs
bare heart exposed to the sky
fire burning in my veins
Am I a mistress of this lust or simply a slave
Trembling with desire
Take me till we've lost count of the hours
enter this storybook tale
Where I can be the heroine you hail

Moving on

The din of cheers will die to dusk, in life
the dance will end; we take the bow
from this tall tale - goodbye to strife
at end of day- our story’s done now
we say, we had our chance, we had our dance.
Shall I now say you had me in a twirl-
locked in your embrace I felt my once
shy moves – slow waltz in time; but now that girl
you knew, to your final tune will dance no more,
will dance no more – for life is calling- the sequel
must begin; who knows where it will lead, what store
of dreams will unfold the applause we crave, or quell
the tide of hope that’s bubbling, in spring awaiting
that season of reaping to glorious sunshine, minds mating.

Dance Of The Butterflies

I had received lots of love in years past I have felt all joys and pitfalls of it No pain seems to enter my simple life Love entertains me, that wonderful hit I know my life floats above tender hearts That which brings love, but sometimes avoids me I move quickly this way and that in air I have “dance of the butterflies” simply My life moves in all respects here and there Highs and lows of dance are of gratitude Love escapes my lips to my gracious love My eyes have passion that brings attitude

A Season's Dance

She wanted me to dance, to dance away It was the spring, within the month of May Still to this day I can see her movements We went around in circles, made statements Sun was filtered down from heaven above Warming the ground and flowers with a shove Letting things bloom is the dance we both shared Gorgeous moment, as one showing we cared Then we slipped into the summer’s proud dance Heat masterfully expresses the prance Around I spin you, and you delve in me I feel a piece of you in summer breeze Here again flowers run abundantly They enjoy the storms as those flow freely We danced throughout the summer with some sweat Proudly showing we danced, best as of yet And now the dance blows quickly into dusk Colors shows beauty like our dance-like musk Leaves shower down onto our very steps We dance into the warmth of the doorsteps Glowing around from the cool sunsets here Things slow down and don’t burn up like with fear She showed me her dancing moves with romance Awesome feelings come from our swinging dance I spin her around in the winter’s grace I clasp her tight as the snow falls in place Whiteness covers the ground and life ceases Leaving beauty from death and its pieces The air looks stale and stagnant with a bite Showing blossoms of winter blooms alright We danced with a deep feeling in this time Frozen was our breath, but warm our sublime She steps it off, and returns back to spring Feeling the warmth back onto her gold ring After a year of seasons we return To the start of real beauty to discern

Lights in the Distance

    Sitting here in my apartment
listening to the Mets game on the radio
   Looking out my window
seeing the lights from a
  nearby building
   How many lives are being
acted out
      Here in the vast metropolis
How many romances, how many
   dreams
Are taking place behind
   the lights
Imagination can go only so far
Reality can out pace it anytime
City Dwellers feel the
    excitement(and the angst)
           which the asphalt
homeland is famous for
  Life is a funny thing
Our concerns are a small
     thing in the vastness
of the cosmos
But millions of city lives
    create indelible patterns
Which become the soul
of the city
The young, the old, the male, the female
   all participate
   In the dance of the
masses
   This dance of civilization
   Which continues
despite sorrow and regret
    This dance cof urban life
revives the many hope-filled
dwellersw
  In the concrete
canyons of New York City

Dance around the fire

I was singed from the fire to the point of burning couldn't escape from the heat 'til I reached my time of learning that the way to stay safe was just to back away now here at a distance is where I must stay and while the others dance around the flames I'll watch from here where the pain they choose to suffer will just slowly disappear back into the burning fire they feed with their anger, and their suffering and greed and I must stand apart and heal where peace and joy are mine and I can feel a simple moment full of grace that no ones words or deeds need take it's place. I danced around the fire until I learned for me it was no longer time to burn.

a Snowflake passed this way re write

Fragile is the mind
That has lost a friend
Fragile too is the snowflake
Seeking sanctuary on my window sill
Both are anonymous to the world

Fragile is the dreamer
Who knows the snowflake well?
Pure as an angels tear
Complex as the heavens above

For Within its crystal, there is a mirror
Where footprints lead me down
A snowy lover’s lane
To that first kiss

Oblivious to winter’s chill
She held my dreams
Warmed my passion
And whispered the words
That only lovers can hear.

And in the virgin snow
I proclaimed to the night
I love you
As the snow melted into tears upon her face

Fragile was the time we were given
And fragile is the youth
That remembers the girl
That loved him so tender
in the cold of yesterday

Fragile are the Angels
 that dance for love
In snowflake dresses
Swirling their magic
Ever knowing that spring
Would chase their dance away

Fragile is the life
Searching for answers
Sharing a snowflakes fate
Brothers of nature
Beautiful and Unique

Born to melt away
In the heat of time
For it is an honour to know a life that others did not
A memory born special to me

Fragile too are we who love this life
Whose lives are touched by those we meet
Who gather the things that make us complete
Friends and Snowflake memories
My happiness in this fragile life

Goblins' Dance

Solid cover of morn's damp dew
Looks frosty 'pon mown grass
Jets have traversed the eastern sky
Leaving white streaks where passed

The rising sun has cast some pink
There's sand 'pon the low clouds
A mysterious fog hides the hills
Where goblins gather in crowds

They roast marshmallows in the night
Play, sing, and dance with glee
Dare the owls to sing who, who, who
At the rising sun flee

TEN CENTS A DANCE

She worked at a boozy ballroom, dancing for 10 cents a dance
Barely enough to eat and pay her rent in a rundown seedy hotel
So young, so alone raised by no one but herself
Oh, she had parents, but they didn’t see her, didn’t know or love her
She married the first guy who came along just to get away from home
But he abused her - used her, then left her all alone

Twenty two years old-
Alone, with two small children to care for
She needed someone…
Someone who would hold her - touch her tenderly with his heart
Someone to love her- love her children
Her brown eyes wishing, hoping - looking for love in stranger’s faces
Dancing for 10 cents a dance under shimmering ballroom lights
Swaying to and fro through dreamed filled hopes
With her closed eyes, she pretended as she danced
Fantasizing that he might be the one to save her- love her

When the music started she was in another world
Wishing he’d sweep her off her feet, take her away
So she could live like a lady and die like a flowering rose when her last petals fell
In the arms of one she imagines will be hers once and for all
To whisper velvet words of comfort as their feet grazed the floor
Under the melodic grace of the violins she pretended…
Hoping to find her hero, someone who’ll give her a chance
Just...for 10 cents a dance

The Boatmans Song 2

The Boatman’s Song 2/ Many

Urvashi’s heart was aching to hear and to see the elegance
Of the boatman, while he sing those melodies on earth
A great longing started sprouting in her bosom
To visit the earth and to listen those heart touching songs
Which like a powerful magnet were pulling her towards earth
Where flows the Ganges and lives her unseen love

To control her ever increasing desire of hearing those songs
And to see that unique boatman, who lives on earth
Urveshi tried to engage her more and more
In the courtly dances and engagements for Indra
But the more she wanted to escape, more she became enchanted
By the echoes of boatman’s songs
Which were tearing her heart and
Making her mind almost intoxicated,
By the melodies of those heavenly songs

The pleasures and comforts of heaven began to pinch her
Like the piercing thorns
Even the dance and music, which were her pride and passion
Became dull and charm less in the wake of those songs
For which she was hailed
As the best among all the Apsaras in the entire universe

Heaven seems to bring no joy and rejoicing for her any more
Her dancing steps, which were the symbols of perfection and beauty
Even started betraying her
As her own heart was no longer in her possession any more
And she found that her mind and heart
Were swept away by that unseen boatman
Sailing his boat somewhere on earth

Apsara Urveshi after finishing her dance that day
Told the God of heaven, Indra
That she perhaps can no longer perform any dance
Owing to agonies of her heart and restlessness of her mind
And her legs were not in tune with her mind to perform
A flawless dance and song by which she had captured the
Hearts of all Gods and Goddess, what to say of humans on earth

She thought and thought and found that she can only normalize
If she can hear the songs of the boatman
Singing in full throated ease on earth
The echo’s of which were hovering in her mind like clouds
And twisting her heart to see that singer sublime

Musings , Wishes and Life

Musings , Wishes and Life

The Fire burneth while our world turneth
yet the rose still holds it's red bloom

The mighty Oaks stand majestic and tall
while man's glory hardly rates a call

The cold Wind bloweth so surely we know
angels bleach the whiteness in the snow

The Forest lives to give beauty and art
wildlife and earthly souls stand far apart

The Sky singeth and the sweet earth reflects
Natures beauty opposite man's many defects

The Soul endures and stays the greatest test
that prove kindness and love serve us best

The Boatman's Song 3/ Many

The Boatman’s Song 3/ Many

Indra was aware that Apsaras Urveshi
Was the incarnation of heavenly beauty
And her restlessness and impatience can spoil
The very beauty of her body and dance
Which was the pride and embodiment of perfection

He also knew that without Urveshi
Even the heaven would look lifeless, without any beauty
Everyone in heaven had thrown their hearts
To get only one glance of Urveshi’s adorable loving eyes
During her dancing sessions, the junior Gods of Indra used to remain glued
Sometimes forgetting even their breathing

Such was the magic of her beauty, dance and songs
Even Indra often found himself lost in beholding
The flawless figure of her body and her lovely dance forms
And such was her dancing skills that even Apsaras
Used to get lost in the sweetness of her voice
And the thrilling and joy of her skillful dance

Lord Indra’s realization of Urveshi’s feelings

Indra was thinking, whether to allow her to visit the earth
To hear the melodies of the boatman or
Not to allow her, as it could be risky for a woman like Urveshi

Urveshi may get tempted and may fall in love
With that earthly voiced singer, whose songs
Are echoing beyond the horizons of earth
And have reached even in the sphere of heaven

Indra was aware that Urveshi was the most beautiful
Among all the Apsaras of heaven and of the entire universe
And if she keep on worrying about the boatman’s songs
At the cost of her dances, joys and pleasures
It was going to spoil her lavishly bestowed beauty
Which glitters and glow or get pale on a woman
As per the love or longings blows in her heart and reflects on her face

After The Dance

elbow to elbow no room to breathe
in this place i once thought an escape
missing her more each day
and each passing moment
brown children with vaseline
greased scalps peer expectantly
at this strange newcomer
vampire handsome and strange intellect
my weakness must be apparent
fore they trust me
dancing with the devil isn't a tango
it's a tangle
our innocence ensnared
like a scared fragile rabbit
pulse racing
silken brown fur clamped
between iron rusty jaws
moving like the blood of the hare
between each strand of hair
i avoid their queries of life
after the dance

The Dance of the Dead

Upon the cold stone I sit A shaded graveyard, not even light can split Wandering, I walk across this ghostly land The fog and rain command Slowly the light begins to die, The night awaking to the lone wolf’s cry Hidden figures dance under the moon But the fun ends all too soon A lonely girl weeps by a stream The life she once had is all but a dream Her mangled, twisted frame lies beside her The crying waters murmur and stir… Us corpses gather ‘round, mourn the newcomer Her hair more golden than wheat in summer Fade to the color of dull clay She turns a transparent grey We invite her over, to dance and sing Before the sun exposes her unfurled wings Her muffled screams are caught in between The death and reality seam Again I sit upon my rock and ponder ‘Who shall see our dance’ I wonder Our special dance under the moon that lead To the dance now known as ‘The dance of the Dead’

Remembering Tagore the Bard

It is our bard's day The eighth of May Nay, actually The world’s day for the second bard For the subtle web of light and shade Blades of grass for our mind’s eyes The boundless sky of our psyche Sort of haikus from the sparks Of pains and pleasure Of the everyday life In amity and strife That Rabindranath Tagore served In a tremendous verve Through his lyrics and libretto Are intense and touching to any sensitive mind The coloured bubbles made everlasting The supple music enchanting And all dappled in cultured sentiments Of sorrows and merriment Of rain and sun Of tales done and undone Of days begun and gone Every nuance finding aesthetic expression In rhythmic dance of words and phrases From the blue water To our dear ledges To be enjoyed by all perceptive intellect And in effect Regardless of nation and culture Loving freedom from bondage of habits and beliefs Relief from boredom into what is handsome With its sun-lit door Always open towards the river And from there Leading you back to the shore

I REMEMBER

I remember as a young man dreaming of falling in love
my dreams were for a special girl made in heaven above
the kind of girl you come by only once in a while
then she walked into my life with her precious smile.

I remember when I first saw her in the middle of the room
next to the dance hall, where we’d dance our love tune
and when we became friends how it was never enough
as I had already fallen in love.

I remember how she smiled when she danced a certain way
and when we became a couple, one September day
I had at last got something in my life so right
I could hold her in my arms, not just in my dreams at night.

I remember when we were married, how it rained and rained all day
but we did not let it spoil our very special day,
I looked back down the aisle, as she came to me dressed in white
and was greeted by her smile, shining through her veil so bright.

I remember how much I loved her, so glad that she was mine,
I remember I gave a promise to love her for all time.
I remember and I will, for no one could love her more
and I’ll hold her in this heart of mine, for now and evermore.
