Trees of the Lord

The trees of the Lord
Full of sap and evergreen
Planted by waters,

Spreading out their roots
Even when drought comes with heat,
Still, will yield their fruit.

Amazed, flutters to the skies
Contained. Settles and sighs.

questionku one

                                                        my soldier son
                                                  deployed this morning --
                                                   will this war ever end?

LITTLE ONE

To what may I most worthily compare
The tinier, fatter fingers of this newborn?
To breathe of softness his delicate fingers
Which by one definition one is able
To swallow one by one like cherry-flower snow!

Nor does anyone deserve
Yet He died for you

Pure Soul

Effortlessly bright
Child, dear and sweet as dew
Innocent as doe
Gentle yet daring
Caring not for tomorrow
Life for this day alone
Quiet in spirit
Voice like a lion at hunt
Innocent in love
Ever full of joy
Though crying from a lost toy
Still so full of joy
Inspirational
In pleasure found in your heart
Pure soul within you

Child With a Sword

Immaculate Son
Sent for division, not peace
Giving His sentence,

He is not guilty.
But as blood drips from his blade,
He cries out for life.

Stick Fencing

Two sticks by the oak
Trimmed and prepared for battle
On a grassy knoll

On the playing field
With one hand behind our backs
Sticks cross left to right

In the round we dance
The fields sway, trees clap their hands
We duel and laugh

(Caleb and I playing in the front yard when he was 4 years old. Now we duel with
wooden and plastic swords.)

Quiver of Sons

Hand polished shafts
Drawn toward contentious gates-
Sharpened straight arrows...
