Submitted to the "Gone Fishin" contest
Trollin’ the islands at Texoma,
It was April, 1964.
New rod and reel in hand,
I’d NEVER been fishing before.
A Garcia 2510T casting rod.
The reel, a Mitchell 301,
Plus hand-selected worms and lures…
I was ready to have some fun.
My teacher, a master fisherman,
Had fished all over the earth...
From trout in Austrian mountain streams
To sea bass just west of Perth.
He showed me all the basics,
Including how to tie a lure.
“No snaps. They’re no good.
Tie’em on…just to be sure.”
He made me practice casting.
“Take aim with your rod’s tip
Take her back - ten, eleven, twelve, one;
Smoothly return to ten… with just a little flip.”
While I practiced the casting motion,
He said, “Large Mouths will be jumpin’ bugs.
Water’s bubblin’ with Sand Bass spawnin’.
You’ll know the difference if one gives you a tug.”
As we drifted around the islands,
He said, “I think you’re ready.”
So, I picked a lure, a pretty Heddon;
And tied her on. My hands were steady.
Yellow with black dots and a weed guard.
A streamer tail and double treble hooks.
Who knew if she would do the job,
But I liked the way she looked.
As I tied her on, I looked around
For a likely place for my first cast.
Magazine pictures always showed weeds
In the background of a striking Bass.
So, I picked a reed bed in the shallows;
Threw my first cast, watched her fly.
What happened next was the stuff of dreams.
We couldn’t believe our eyes.
About eighteen inches before she lit,
A monstrous Large Mouth erupted from the water.
My teacher screamed, “Holy Mary, Mother of God!
Kiss O’Reilly’s Ugly Daughter!”
When the Bass broke water, it scared me.
My whole body jerked and shook.
So sudden, so silent, it seemed like slow motion.
Until I heard him screaming, “Set the hook! Set the hook!”
When the big Bass scared me,
I must have set the hook.
The tussle was on, long and hard.
This fish didn’t want to be cooked.
My lack of skills prevailed, however,
As I finally reeled him in;
I grabbed him by the lower lip,
Like I’d seen Don Wallace do, time and time again.
“Oh, my God”, he murmured as he weighed the Bass;
“Jeez. Over thirteen pounds....Thirteen pounds, two.”
He took out his Polaroid and laughed,
“I’ll take a picture of this fish... holdin' you.”
He snapped the picture of me holding the Bass;
On the back wrote the date, the length and weight.
As he turned to put the camera away……
Get ready. This is the part that’s great.
I’d watched Don Wallace ‘catch and release’.
He always did that on his show.
“This fish put up a good fight.” he’d say;
“Now it’s time to let him go.”
Yes, as my teacher put away the camera,
I held the big Bass by the lower lip and tail
And ‘swished’ him in the water,
Making sure his gills would not fail.
My teacher turned and saw what I was doing
Just as I let the big Bass go.
This, too, was like slow motion
As I heard him screaming, “NOOOOOOO!”
“Why would you do that, Lad?
Do ya know nothin’ at all?
A fish like that... on your very first cast?
Well...Lad, that fish goes on the wall.”
“Well…he’ll be here next year.” I said with a smile,
“And even bigger, I’ll bet.”
He said, ”You’ll make a fisherman, Lad.
It’s not for the fish that we fish…
but for the great stories we get.”
I still have that lure…and the rod and reel.
Still in their bags and boxes, just like new.
I thought about selling them on eBay,
But 50 years later, they have sentimental value.
You see…I’ve been invited to go fishin’ several times
By golfin’ buddies and other friends;
But for some reason…I really don’t know why…
I’ve never gone fishin’ again.
They say, “Truth is stranger than fiction.”
And I believe that is a fact.
I hope you enjoyed this bit of truth and,
In the meantime…..”Ya’ll come back!”

Long miles of tedious journey,
Missing my darling honey.
Travelling impatiently, spend thousands of
Hope god will bless me with ma lucky soul
at this season.
Equatorial island exploring its amazed
beauty, glittering with immersed grasses.
Wrapped by queens necklaced small lake
aside, at the outskirts of dalhousie.
My heart dwelled into its god gifted
When the night lime lighted,
Millions of stars scattered around
As if its was a wondering boon.
Lucky enough for landing with my next
Eagerly waiting for my heart chaser,
Girl passed near by, few seconds later.
Flaming beauty mould my soul.
Topped with innocence, ready for my
Her chic appearance,
Her innocent appeal.
Strucking heart raised with high beats..
Awaited for our romantic date in ma
Frequency of our nature matched.
Stolen Eyes of each other were catched.
Strings of our heart whistled
Everything had happened miraclelously.
I rebelled the three precious words of
Accepting my red rose, She blushed.
At event of recreation, campfire were
Nobody around us, private moments
between we two spotlighted.
Playing guitar, she sinked with every beat,
That's the coincidence our eyes again
Hand in hand danced with the soothing
Sparkling smile on her face beamed.
Getting closer to her, because of her
Expecting the light around us to be dim.
The romantic moment again came,
Flaps of my soul opened for the grand
She looked too pretty in her gold lame
My heart awarded her an order of chivalry.
Don't know who are you, but baby you are
the one, I am in love.
You live in me, You are my love
I feel you in my heart,
You are my world, I just cant stay apart!
Please don't hesitate, please don't lie,
Whatever you feel, my heart can buy!
Angel of life, Its just you.
Completeness in life can't be without you.
Wanna Carry journey happily together.
Tickling nose, Queenly beauty of my white
Hold my senses, its caught by you.
Don't let be just memories, wanna feel
ecstasy of love towards you forever.
Promising to hold your hand throughout
life in this lovely weather.
Will be your shadow, because your pain
will be mine.
Its destiny that our heart clicked a
snapshot of each other's soul.
Stopping by my question, Will you marry
me, my Kindred Soul?

My daddy played a trick on me
When I was just a tike
Asleep; I was in dreamland town
A 'riding on my bike
And suddenly! I hear a noise
A clanging sound it seems
It was my dad with pots in hand
He's banging on the beams
He's shouting out "wake up, wake up"
We're getting in the ride
It's time to go, no time to waste
We've got to get outside!
There's bees in here, they're everywhere
They're stinging all they see
Get in those clothes, hitch up your boots
It's time for us to flee!
So up I jump, still in a daze
What happened to my bike?
Where are my clothes, can't find my boots
Oh my, this I don't like
We run outside, hey - where's the car
Dad woke us up you know
Those bees in there will sting for sure
It's time for us to go!
My dad's outside with teary eyes
From laughing all the way
He turns to us and with a grin
"It's April Fools today!"

Is tomorrow the end of March or the beginning of April April one or March 32 the
way to approach the online scenario is to make it seem to be true. Associated
Press AP: The Government in a brief memo enacted a new presidential law
bringing the March 32 a new day into the light of day. The President of the United
States declared leap year over null and voided. Here is the words of the transcript
from the Whitehouse: This is President Bush talking "Eye am certain all we ever
had to do was add a day on the end of a month when we need to in the year they
used to all call leap year year. March now has the end of the month the April
starts after the March 32 has come." End of quotation. The Democrats in Georgia
have declared WAR upon the United States "we believe it to be wrong to take
away leap year is bad enough but to add a day to MARCH is madness." The
press corp at the Whitehouse is for once speechless. The day of the end of
March will be celebrated all over the nation with the observnace of the Marching
Bands of America. Send money via PayPal to Box 666 Mountain Verne
Washingtonia, D.C. For the hearing impaired we have prepared a phonetic
version of this message. March 32. Mahrrch Thirtee Twuu. In DRY counties of
Arkansas this day will fall on April 1, 2008. The subdivisions housing in the
Indian Reservations in Oklahoma will be left out. No one in Central Asia may
observe it. Lets go LIVE to the White house to ask a question of Mrs. Bush. What
will you do Barbara? The First Lady is unavaliable for comment. This is highly
unusual. We remain speechless. The new day falls on a Tuesday this year and
April 1, 2008 is on this Wednesday. All of you are April fools.

You don't want to be
Looks can kill
Stab in the back
Don't look away
You might miss me
I'm your enemy
So just be aware
I'm hunting you
I'll find you
Count on it because
It's April Fool's Day! ;-)

hello little school girl
how do you do
travis says he loves you
think I could love you too
you look very healthy
all sobered up
maybe you need an older man
in your troubled life
you and your firm legs
and everything above
but I wonder and I wonder
can perversion go on like this
I wish and I pray
that you were closer to twenty-six
but for now
this will have to do
maybe I can get my chance
with Pocahontas, me and you

A storm's revving up in the Gulf
somewhere. The screen door
slaps in a security lapse. Back yard
furies (from the pen of The Bard)
strike up the band with a caveat
that's seldom been heard. A small
lake turtle lifts his garden hose
head to a once-tranquil surface
transformed into dread, and I, Dona
Quixote, go to fence with an owl
Who-who's out of his element
on a neighboring dock, but closer
inspection reveals no college professor,
just an owly imposter, a quasi-
transgressor chiseled from rock

O it's April there
When the mango blossoms turn to seed
And budding pear
Call the honey bee from flowery weed
And the maypole dancers are preparing
For May day fairs, and youth wild cheering.
O it's April there
And lapis lazuli dance upon the seas
And maidens fair
Like butterflies frolic in the balmy breeze.
And all my heart is under the tree waiting
For you to come, funny face, and smiling.
O it's April there
When Don and I turn our hearts to the reef
Diving corals where
Beauty is a panorama of colors beyond belief
But O my heart is under the tree waiting
For you to come, funny face, and smiling.
