Home schooling

Home schooling

My Grandson Jakob lives with me
He’s quite intelligent
Now he’s a ‘one of’ kind of lad
He’s deep and he’s intense
He used to go to the local school
Where bullies did abound
And though he’s such a peaceful lad
No peace for him was found.

So we took him out of school
And his mum, she teaches him
He’s showed since she has started this
That he’s anything but dim
His grades have shot up very high
Since he left that school
And no one bullies him no more
Or treats him like a fool.

And yet I hear so many say
Home schooling is real bad
So I do say to all these folk
‘Well you should see our lad’
He’s happiness just shines on through
He’s getting brighter ever day
I think home schooling is the best
In every kind of way.

Silver strands

Tuppy Silver strands silver bands and the rings on her hands, Her hair was the colour of grey, Eyes far away, with the thoughts of her day, As her grandson an audience sought, I was there that day, with an empty head thought, just a boy, but loved this I say. As I looked at her troubled eyes, A Catholic she’d once been married, To a Church of England, man called John, so now she was surely harried, Excommunicated by a priest on that day, So she caught up a rifle, pulled off a few shots, Bounced bullets, as he was running away. The only pleasure to be got, Anyway. With polio born she couldn’t stand, But dragged herself onto a pony, She did eventually walk, But she walked in the path of the lonely.

LET US ALL SAVE PEACE

I woke watching television news
The jet plane is soaring high note
Operation Sulu is launched forth
Until the intruders to get out
Malaysia always chose to peace
Come and let us all save peace

Philippines is wanting peace
For Sulu Archipelago is its part to ease
Sulu Royal Army chose to enter because of peace
They call homeland in the book pages
They decide to stay and die never ended
Many see this is not a good choice
But for them this is a pride to hold and take
Come and let us all save peace

For Malaysia also has to protect its state
Its sovereignty whether lives at stake
It has chosen the space to negotiate
And has given the time to withdraw in peace
But the “intruders” is hard to take the leave
Come and let us all save peace

Many children cried
Much wives shed tears
Every Mothers weep
Their love ones died but with pride
Our prayers to put ahead their faith
Come and let us all save peace

The eyes of the world where are you?
The humanitarian aid you have to do
Don’t you see the lives are here waiting?
The civilians need your helping
Do not wait until the time lapse to nothing
Come and let us all save peace and do something.

Come and let us all save peace
Take part and let us all save peace
Pray and let us all save peace
Where are you peace activists?
Come and let us all save peace
Let us all save peace!

If Only

Dark clouds loomed overhead... White flowers lay there on her grave, Raindrops started falling and people scurried, I just stood still and tried to be brave. For the tears they were welling up inside, Like a dam about to give way; My hands were quivering, my lips were dry, The colour from my face was drained. I walked up to the mound of wreaths, A single tear rolled down my cheek. I set myself down on one knee... The dam burst, I began to weep. If only I had told her how much I loved her! If only I hadn’t fought with her every day! I just wanted to tell her I was sorry... I just wanted to make it all okay. She had worked so hard to keep me happy, She used to toil all day When I was hurting she would smile and kiss me, And make the pain go away. When there was no money for me to go to college, She had sold her car and paid the fees; When I failed in my exams and had given up hope, She had helped me get back on my feet. All my life she was the one person Who believed in me when no one else did; I don’t know why I used to fight with her, If only I hadn't screamed and shouted. All these years she faced such hardships, Just to make sure I had everything I wanted, Yet instead of being grateful to my mother, All I had shown her was anger and hatred. Now I knelt on a dark cold rainy day, Struggling to find words to say... If only I could tell her I was sorry If only I could make it all okay.

Don't make a monkey out of me

Don’t make a Monkey out of me

I didn’t come out of the ocean
I didn’t fly in the air
My family tree has no Monkeys
So don’t you even dare

I’m not a monkey’s uncle
The Bibles very clear
I’m from the Son of God
On this I have no fear

I didn’t crawl on my belly
Laid no eggs in the sand
Divine heavenly creation
Produced this son of man

               Chorus

So don’t make a monkey out of me
We never went swinging on the trees
I never, ever ran on all fours
So don’t make a Monkey out of me

We didn’t come from Aliens
No super powerful race
They didn’t come and see us
From far out in space

The earth was made by Almighty
The angels watched and sang
It wasn’t a sudden combustion
The Idiots call Big Bang

There is no Earthly proof to see
Through out all of the years
The only missing link you’ll find
Is the one between your ears

Our Jakob

Our Jakob

I’ll tell you a little story
About a little boy, I know
He has a mind at ten years old
That has a kind of glow
That says, “this boy’s intelligent”
He’s got something to say
He glows with curiosity
And learns more every day.

He has this sense of fairness
He’ll never let you down
And with his sense of humour
Each time he sees you frown
He’ll put a smile back on your face
We love him oh, so much
This boy, he has a way with him
A kind of magic touch.

He be my one time only friend
He’s only ten years old
And yet he has a heart so big
And made of purest gold
No matter where this boy goes to
My heart, it will go with him
I guess I’ll love my grandson Jake
Until my light grows dim.

PICCANINNY DAWN

The old man and his grandson viewed
A barren bladeless ground.
When to his left the young lad's eye
Saw bleached bones scattered 'round.
'Twas more than one beast's bones that lay
There exposed to the sun.
It seemed more like a battlefield
Where only death had won.

The old man saw the young lad wince,
He reined in close behind.
As memories of what took place
Came flooding through his mind.
A century turned, but not his luck,
For rains had failed again.
He slowly watched the dams dry up
While cattle died in pain.

A little water still remained
Though sought by feral stock.
Some brumbies which came down at dawn
Still often used the block.
In good times no one cared that much,
But not so any more.
The young lad's dad and this old man
Both knew what lay in store.

A high log fence closed off the dam,
The timber they had sawn.
Suspended gate it lay in wait
For piccaninny dawn.
Then as the last mare ambled through
Wood gate it dropped like lead.
A wood rail race seemed their escape,
But death lurked there instead. Their capital had all dried up,
No cash for lead and gun.
To execute the feral stock
Took knife and old man's son.
With legs astride the wood rail race
Son grimaced as he drew
That blade of death 'cross jug'lar vein,
Then slapped the victim through.

Each fleet foot spirit faltered there
A hundred yards away,
While blazing eyes showed fear of death,
Mouths gave a weakened neigh.
Then one by one their weak frames fell
Onto the dusty ground.
The racing hearts of those poor beasts
Then gave their final pound.

The slaughter did not save the stock
For all the dams went dry.
It fin'ly broke the old man's son,
He watched the grown man cry.
All this the old man told the lad,
The picture was now drawn.
On why his dad then took his life
One piccaninny dawn.

The young lad then took from his head
his father's sweat stained hat
And as he wiped the tears away
He said, Gramps thanks for that."
I'd always had my doubts you see
About the way Dad died,
But now I know the truth at last
I'll wear this hat with pride.

Magical School

When I enrolled in magical school
Ma said good luck
Dad called me a fool

He always thought with my IQ
I’d fix people up,
Not saw them in two.

But I had a vision
And my self esteem
Hung on the balance
Of this simple dream

So I packed my bag
Gave Ma a hug
Reached out to pop
Who said with a shrug

Watch each one of your steps
Cause each one of them matters
When you walk without looking
You’re sure to splatter
So take my advice
It may save your life
You can’t step twice
On thin ice.

I’ll show that man who I can be
With a B.A.
In alchemy

I have no doubt that he’ll be glad
Because my plan
Was ironclad

I bought all my books
Most second hand
I was so ready
To beat the band

But where was my room
Did it disappear?
I’m such a buffoon
Then dad’s words appeared.

If you can’t find your way
Don’t lose your nerve
It’s all a small part
Of the learning curve
So take my advice
It may save your life
Rolling the dice
Is a vice

I tried running down the empty halls
But all the doors
Turned into walls

I shouted a chant, before weeping
‘Allah-Kazow-ee’
To get me sleeping

I dreamed about A’s
The prodigal son
The star of my class
Magic 101

But soon my visions
Became nightmares
I woke and screamed
And if pop was there

He’d say, when in a jam
Take an afternoon nap
Cause a grumpy head
Ain’t worth a crap
So take my advice
It may save your life
To make nice
Sleep twice

At last, I made it to classes
But that first day
I lost my glasses

Teacher assumed I was a jerk
Rewarding me
A week of homework

Then my trick cards turned red
The hare’s sick in bed
The bouquet looked dead
So I called home, and said,

“I’m failing Hocus Pocus
Gotta D in smoke in mirrors
It’s so hard to focus
When all I make is errors

Then dad said with much calm
First give yourself a hand
Before counting on others
And soon you’ll understand
So take my advice
It may save your life
Give yourself a high-five
To survive

So I practiced day and night
‘Till each ‘Abra’
Came out right

And my Presto-Digi-ture
Was more than
Amateur

Then all those D’s
Turned into A’s
Without tricks
I was amazed

Hard work after all
Was a giant step for me
But with dad’s advice
I learned the mystery

Each day is irreplaceable
And comes with a caveat
If you waste its offerings
You deserve just what you get
So take my advice
It may save your life
Being wise
Is the prize
