The Last Rose Of Summer

The last rose of summer is rapidly fading on the vine.

'Twas once as brilliant as a splendid claret Bordeaux wine.

Alas, autumn frosts hath wrought their deadly sting.

Thankfully, another will bring me pleasure come next spring!

One February Day

Driving to my job one February day,
Watching how the sky made everything seem gray.

I felt a little glum and uninspired.
Sunshine and verdant springtime I desired.

A shaft of light appeared from overhead.
It was as if my thoughts were being read!

Mesmerized, I gazed at the brilliant white.
Tinged with gold, it flooded sky with light.

I drove on, but a new thought filled my mind.
My happy spring would not be far behind.

SEPTEMBER SWANS

The ashen wind fills wafts of day that hides the sun, then drops away into the early Autumn sky, perhaps to dream, or just to die like one leaf falling from a pear, it stirs a final dream so fair, a dream turning bleak reason’s flow, it knows not which byway to go through wrapped fields of taunting rain it wanders, then comes back again like beats winging the Autumn air, so wondrously beyond compare. The swans of life stir ever on, and when the breaths of day is gone they tumble through her mist- filled night, as late dusk's jaws begin to bite. The crying of a lonely night, pine's branches drooping moonlit white as sighing winds touch heaven’s gate, without the need to stand and wait for every roaming rainclouds' stare, she needs to ask the why or where in moments when pain veils her face so sullen, yet so full of grace; as her swan wings clutch twilight's hues dripping tears from September's dues yet, eyes open their crystal plumes with hopes of flowers' newborn blooms © ------------ Contest: Joyce Johnson's The Rhyming Game By: nette onclaud

Loony Tunes

< Cascading lakes and streams
The loon stands out it seems

                                           Minnesota's state bird
I know it must sound absurd

                                           Adopted in nineteen sixty one
Wails and yodels heard under the sun

Black and white bearing red eyes
Wingspans five feet can make one cry

Body lengths up to three feet
Yet clumsy on lands and moss peat

                                          They are high speed flyers
                                          And great underwater divers

They can dive up to ninety feet
In pursuit of fish they want to eat

They are even on our license plates
An critical habitat drawn on metal slates

Twelve thousand of these unique birds
God that has to be a lot of turds

But for now I'll enjoy it's captured views
Of this beautiful loon and it's most colorful hues

FROSTY NIGHT STROLL

When twilight hangs on the silver of trees In ways the boughs are draped with frost's release, My tempo of whistling strides and feet unfurl Beneath the dome of clouds, set in misty pearl. Lilacs pose with sheen in a crystal dress On branches gracing a season's finesse, The nightingales coo of winter's refrain Along roads where love finds sweet comfort gained. In solace, I marvel at this jeweled hour As lanterns guide my stroll through night's tower!

Amour

.
Summer had her delights
With sunny days, warm nights.

Fall brings a little chill
Cool nights, frost on high hills.

Colors change upon trees
This for most surely please.

Now is time for amour
Adoration galore.

Did view you from afar
Now will learn who you are.

Long to ride upon your back
Hold your mane, feel your tack..

YEARNING FOR SPRING

nature sings softly her lively recital
everything is glorious and looks vital
the swans exhibit courtship behavior
their dances visual pieces for their spring-paviour

thrushes chitter their earliest symphony
birdseed germinates and outspreads spring widely
two newts show a beautiful mating dance
strawberry plants use their early spring chance

a show of new born green just above the ground
alders pollen causing sneezing peoples' sound
few snowdrops, celandine, white dead nettle
and hazel trees show leaves and huge mettle

appetite dictates this walk with our dog
a craved annual entry in our blog
at length awaited while walking and watching
dozens of reasons for thinking and talking

the artificial Christmas tree just packed
the baubles and the glass peak safely wrapped
a large cup of hot chocolate a good mate
served forthwith stale Christmas cookies on a plate

Autumn's Breeze

Crisp Autumn seeps through the day
Dew balances a fresh cut blade

Tangerine skies seethe God's Grace
Summer's vehment blaze...replaced

Slipping sweetness around my pillow
Cool winds dance with weeping willow

Stars twinkle down through thick dense trees
As spirits dance in fresh Autumn's breeze

Autumn

Immersed in the sound of the low rustling wind
Memories and places they haunt yet again
Passed by so quickly as each falling leaf
Drifting and flowing on an unyielding stream
A current to carry from birth right on through
Filling our moments with cares which ensue
A mind lost in remnants of lovers and friends
Babies and children and time long since spent
Familiar, intangible, just out of reach
Longing for ghosts that my heart doth beseech
Winter is looming and summer is past
A time for remembrance the years gone so fast
Beauty is captured in my last breath of life
The sparkling colors in the warm golden light
Do mimic the glory and wonder be told
In those bright days of autumn and a life to behold

This Time of Year

The air is fresh, mornings crisp and clear
God I do love this time of year
Vibrant colors abound on the trees
Gracefully falling with the breeze
The workday runs from sun to sun
Until the "Bringing in of the crops" is done
I am a lucky man to live this life
Respect of my community and loving wife
Sometimes in life the land yields plenty
The blessings throughout the day are many
As I watch the sunrise to the east
It gives my soul a spiritual feast
For all my friends everywhere
To my Lord a silent prayer
To the north her majesty appears
For all to see beautiful and clear
Forever snowcapped and standing tall
Lady Shasta watches over all
To the south another blessing to see
The Sutter Buttes clouded in mystery
It was the Lord that gave them their birth
The shortest mountain range on earth
The coastal mountains to the west
Offers the sun a place to rest
Followed shortly for all to see
The "Harvest Moon" clear as can be
Then comes a moment that is hard
As I head my "Cat" off to the yard
My final ride of this year
My face accepts a single tear
My heart becomes full of sorrow
I inject myself with poison tomorrow
Thats the price that a junkie must pay
Years after he has changed his way
The reason is very clear to see
I put myself "At risk" to hepatitis C
I can't stop the fear from flooding in
What will it be like to hold a rig again
Through all the loss and all the gain
I reckon that moment will bring me pain
But through the pain I'm able to see
God has his angels covering me

Spring Morning

Slowly the light comes into my eyes.
The morning is here and that's no surprise.

Thin lines of the sun's rays shine through.
An open curtain from across my bedroom.

My eyelids are heavy and feel so dry.
Trying to wipe the long sleep from my eye.

The tiniest particles of dust float softly from my bed.
Splatter across thin lines of light just above my head.

I wonder to myself, should I get up or just stay.
The covers so warm and wishing to remain this way.

The smell of fresh coffee is permeating the air.
Who could it be making hot coffee out there?

A bright new day has started for all of us, not just me.
Come into my dream with me and see how great it can be.

The Seasons

Feather to feather on a branch, this early winter morning,
Are they planning outings for the day or of grave dangers warning?

A predator comes swooping by, a red-tailed hawk in plunder.
As of one mind they fly away, not one is pulled asunder.

These are the winter birds that stay, to face the stormy weather.
They mind the rules of Nature and no one asks why or whether.

The ice and snow, the winds that blow, they do not stop to measure.
For what could be one bird's nothing, could be another's treasure.

The springtime finds them once again, assembled in large groupings.
They know a single bird can be endangered by hawk's swoopings.

The over-powering scents of spring, assault them from the orchard.
The butterflies and bumblebees are courting in the courtyard.

The apple tree is leafing out and showing her pink buddings.
The robin is digging in the mud and making her worm puddings.

My own body is a tingle at the sounds and smells and scents.
A bunny with his ears attuned, keeps watching through the fence.

When summer comes, life has progressed. Among the leaves, nests hidden.
Many a chastened crow has learned that to rob one is forbidden.

Mama and Papa Swallow have filled the needs of their first hatch.
They're teaching them to fly now, to make room for another batch.

The summer flowers are in full bloom, each vying with another
To tell the nectar searching bees, they're better than the other.

The bright red of tall lilies and my roses of red hues
Urge me to plant my gardens with some yellows, greens and blues.

At last in fall, time to relax and talk about the summer.
That Robin's eggs refused to hatch, they agree was a real bummer.

They're gathered now, in larger groups, to leave for other places.
The birds that stay, send them away with wonder on their faces.

A riotous bloom of dahlias grow where other flowers have faded.
The last blooms of summer roses are looking quite outdated.

The snow of winter soon will come to cover up my garden,
But hardy plants will live through snow, fall gave them chance to harden.

Under Saltire Skies

I recall the very day, in every male teenagers wish It's to lie with one's first love and entering loves bliss Well for me it was so beautiful, below Saltire blue skies We lay in a field of Barley, looking into each others eyes To the heavens we looked for guidance, but it was there all the time It's the feeling of sensual adventure, two hearts in wanting find Counting her buttons I remember, whilst my heart beats so fast Seeing her heavenly beauties, left this Highlander in gasp It's when she teased me in it's removal, her breasts now fancy free Gravity in young never spoke, it simply mesmerised me My hands in hers now taken, her denim shorts now slide Down bronzed Summer skin, simply captures my eyes Her body excited, so pert, there's a hunger in wanting desire The craving to join as one, under Saltire skies in perspire Hands become clenched tight, with a promise of released in flow How wonderful it is, to be united where nature grows I recall this very day, in every male teenagers heart The excitement that delivers us, where many a lifetime starts http://www.thehighlanderspoems.com/love-20.php

WINTER'S BLANKET

Winter is the last and the coolest season of the year
Where people love to play with snow everywhere

Wearing jackets, mittens, socks, and boots
Walking on winter’s blanket on the roads

Love to see the snowflakes cascading from the sky
Like tiny bits of diamond that caress my face so dry

Feels good to watch the snow and its beauty
Showing elegance that I close my eyes peacefully

Relax, feel the world full of whiteness on the ground
Breathtaking scenery that happiness I finally found

My Spring Garden

My garden is unfolding before my startled eyes.
Each blossom as it opens is a welcome, glad surprise.

The daffodils are blooming and spread sunshiny cheer,
While the tulips are struggling to hold up their heads this year.

The plum trees are in blossom, their branches snowy white,
Others playing possum keep their new buds closed up tight.

Rhododendrons showing color, camellias in full bloom,
The scene is ever changing in my outdoor living room.

Crocuses and small snowdrops are already past their prime.
Anemones and pansies are expected anytime.

A bunny in my garden is looking for a deal.
And eagle in my birch tree, eyes the bunny for a meal.

Oh my garden in the springtime is an optical delight,
While predators of every kind are looking for a bite.

I must find a way to thwart them without poisoning the land..
I will share with the less greedy, slugs and aphids must be banned.

FIRST SHADE OF RED

` `````` ` Arriving regally on a chariot of red mold January spills on dawn that grows bold, petals reeling their flesh to a rabid sky in breaths of passion while she strolls by. She graces the mist in rare velvet cape her gems of crimson scatter from her nape, rolling on warmth’s burning and wild mirth A First Fairy, like me, giving earth a new birth Then sprays of carnations rise in russet to glow declaring affection as all stars waltz for a flow. Lo, for her touch is crystal fire, gentle yet tough lusty through night’s fold, softening at noon’s puff. Yet radiant is her joy like the flowers she wears, as tumble of stillness beams on hushed prayers. And her limbs linger on, then turning her face, she leaves serenely as I feed on her dream’s grace © ` ```````` ` Russel Sivey's Contest: The Colors Have It By nette onclaud

My hand holds your hand

My hand holds your hand and that`s enough.
In the green`s intervals, the weather is rough;
The blue wind freed its own ghost’s chain
Following the rhythm of the crystalline rain;
With the leaf`s thrill and embrace`s embers
Patient ruby hidden in alabaster chambers,
Far from the desert of mirrors, standing aloof
As vulnerable as the surge`s serenity`s proof;
Simple surmise falling down with the mist,
Suspension bridge above the yellow East;
Looking from the season `s round roof,
Solitude seems hit by a rueful cold hoof.
Like the violet dawns date with the pale moon,
Chapel`s morning joined the emerald afternoon;
Air angels with white wings are our mates;
Trees beg for heaven to let open the gates;
We listen to inner chansons sung by Edith Piaf
My hand holds your hand and that`s enough.

Late-Flowering Love

Under molten autumn's tumbling umber we walk,
fingers clinging, hours disappearing as we talk.

Love gifts drift from kaleidoscope canopy trees -
gentle showers of confetti-colourful leaves.

Heart-scarlet berries glow hotly in hedgerows,
passion-flame petals burn on a late-blooming rose.

Susurrous russet whisperings as leaves cascade;
secrets shared in soft, sequestered shade.

Reaping this harvest of hopes and dreams
in the late golden gleam of sunbeams.

Melding as day gives way to mauve-mellow twilight;
communing with the misted murmurings of night.

Picture This!

In the Silence of the morn
my picture window does a splendid scene adorn.

Reflections of red, yellow, and gold
the suns jewel like glory does unfold.

Admiring rays shine toward the west
with accepting gratitude the trees do not protest.

Rolling hills grab the early light, which allows
fall’s magnificence to rise and take flight.

Feeling rich, as the richest King
this wondrous display catapults my heart to sing.

Wispy Fluff

Heavy grey clouds have finally passed.
Spring is coming at last, at last.

Blue sky full of wispy fluff
Says to winter 'enough, enough'.

Fluffy white clouds in sky of blue.
This kind of day ... long overdue.

Enough of winter, enough of cold.
It's pristine beauty did quickly grow old.

Spring, oh Spring, is on it's way
As the fluffy clouds come out to play.

Autumn's Air

Autumn I love you color and splendor
Plump sweet grapes filling me with ardor

A patchwork quilt......velvet soft leafs
For you I wear my heart on my sleeve

A wisp of cool breath blows upon my face
A balmy soft touch of your calm and grace

Brides last chance of an outdoor wedding
Flowers bow heads giving up their bedding

Photographs taken a memorable moment
Dressed in an exquisite multi-color garment

Snow Storming Us

Sky greyed with sudden snow, cars slithered serpentine roads -
a screech-slide of tyres on obsidian ice. Traffic slowed;

indicators blinking against the driving white squall,
engines' hot oiled throats throttled to standstill.

Bitter winds whipped us raw; ice shrapnel's rip and tear
piercing our lungs. Snatching gasps of spiked air,

our stung skin numb from the blizzard's bite.
Tempestuous snow smothered hematite night;

gusting and mounding, turning black to white.
By dawn, drifts dazzled with diamante light;

air was achromatic, blanketed fields blanked,
hills bleached to silence; the landscape blanched.

White Knuckle Winter- Weather Forecast

Finishing up the last notes from my work day, I’m really late, Looking out my window, my drive tonight, I’m going to hate. I grab my briefcase and walk to my car, on a sheet of ice. Slipping and sliding left and right, this is not going to be nice. Takes twenty minutes to clear the snow from my car window, If I can hardly move, how will my car drive, I just don’t know. Hitting the windshield, the snowflakes are big, puffy and white, They fly at you almost hypnotizing, you completely lose sight. Once you reach country roads the white knuckles truly begin, If you can keep between the hydro poles, you may just win. Hold on tight, keep your wheel straight, put your lights on low, Pray your defrost keeps working as you make through the snow. A blanket of whiteness envelopes you, no sounds or lights to see, Alone in this blizzard, you drive, terrifying, yet a strange tranquility. Once home, after a good night’s sleep, you arise from bed at seven, Trees iced in froth, the ground painted white, looks a bit like heaven. Sun comes up, temperatures rise and once again green appears, Nature makes the world safe again, slowly melts away your fears. To think that I could have easily been killed driving home last night, You consider the beauty of country living and soon forget the fright.

Falling for the Beast

Playing cat and mouse were Beauty and the Beast
Right up to the moment the harvest moon ceased

To shine, that is, autumn winds ushered dark clouds
Even amber leaves were cloaked by misty shrouds

Alone on the terrace, Beast’s hand reached to her
Unfamiliar feelings in Beauty did stir

The masquerade party on All Hallows Eve
Beauty caught in his web, seeking no reprieve

Clouds now cast aside, moonbeams danced in the skies
Pulling his mask, Beauty unveiled Beast’s disguise

The Pleasure Has Been All Mine

< I have dipped my pen in the sublime, it's my gift to you
Now use it wisely and write about some captioned caught views

thus that of an snow-capped mountain with an eagle that soars
or white sandy beaches where ribbed tides rolls back to it's shores

maybe stars and moon dance reflecting off stilled bay's port
in ones head you must determine choice of words to now sort

from beautiful to just pleasure does not hit it's mark
beneath recant memory that caused the ignited spark

observer of denial you can not destroy ones voice
within pens stroke there comes a poet with another choice

seize the day and come bow to the chosen word of the day
dont let an overpowering object just get away

THE SEPTEMBER WIND

September ushers in Autumn, hence the Autumn wind.
Squirrels and rabbits dig their burrows, rush to snuggle in.

The wind races merrily across the ground,
Blowing the Autumn leaves all around;

Skimming over the rocks and nooks,
And chasing along the fast flowing brook.

Blowing the clouds across the sky,
It whispers and laughs with a gentle sigh,

As it playfully wraps my coat 'round my legs,
And I hurry inside for some bacon and eggs.

This morning the wind is a rascal for certain,
As it rushes right past me to ruffle the curtains.

Summer is gone and Winter draws near,
And the September wind means Fall is here.

Christmas Bliss

I cherish the Christmas time of the year.
People are in the streets grinning ear to ear.

Children faces light up with joy.
Pondering on their favorite toy.

This the season we remember to give and share.
It is a way to let others know we really care.

We are told wise men came to a manger to seek
Later wise men would hear this child speak.

If I had but one Christmas wish,
It would be for you to know a Christmas bliss.

Falling Leaves

Like golden treasure they flutter down On autumn winds they float to the ground Carpeting the earth without a sound Today's little miracle I have happily found....
We have a bit of a wind today and the maple leaves are falling like rain. Its beautiful.

Autumn Colors

Autumn is a tapestry, in shades of red and maize!
The distant hills, breathtaking, in a lovely purple haze!

Trees and grass are dressed in green, a vision to behold.
Fields and meadows, overflow, with Autumns harvest gold!

A potpourri of natures beauty, scenes to be adored,
Mother Nature gets the credit, but the artist is, Our Lord!

A Bouquet For All Seasons

Seems appropriate in January, when the snow has yet to stop That the flower of the month would be a lovely white Snowdrop Then when February comes, we've still frost on our nose But not so much that we can't smell the fragrance of Primrose In March we're all waiting to hear the spring birds trill And up through the snow there pops the Yellow Daffodil Next April showers welcome spring and we begin to see New life out in the garden with the delicate Sweet Pea The Lilly of the Valley represents the month of May With tiny little blossoms, like white pearls on display The summers now upon us and in June the garden grows The princess of all flowers, the beautiful Cream Rose July, full of sunshine, warms the waters of the ponds Smiling on the Waterlily's, with their graceful fronds In August as in Flanders fields, we see the Poppies grow Showing off their colors, letting their beauty show Mine is the Deep Blue Aster, in September I arrived And though the days are cooler now, it's blossoms have survived Cosmos are for October, harbingers of fall But with their fragrant blossoms, warmer days recall And what would be November without the hardy Mum Unlike the other flowers, to winter won't succumb And finally in December with shiny leaves of green Holly brightens up our days, hail to winters queen

MUMBAI WEATHER FORECAST

Good morning Mumbai, its weather forecast time
As we all can feel today, rains tomorrow will be sublime

Rains are in full swing, heavy drops falling down
Some of us love the rain, some simply frown

No sign of sun there’ll be, only dark clouds around
The sound you’ll hear is of traffic and football on the ground

Lightening is expected, thunder storms too
But how massive it might be, I don’t have a clue

The clouds are pacing here, fast and countless
I hope it doesn’t rain like 26/7 boundless…

***in Mumbai, India there were massive floods on 26th July 2005. I hope that doesn’t happen again…

Remember Spring

When the snow begins to fall and its chilled outside
Our spirits begin to fade like a misty tide

It's hard to keep our head and chests up high
We want to lay in beds and do naught but cry

But we should remember what comes after the snow
The sprouting hope of the rose petals show

That happiness can be found inside a soul so cold
One that has found that it feels way too old

So smile today, and smile tomorrow
On memories of spring, we borrow

Lazy afternoons

A visit to my village in the month of june,
all that it offers you is a very short day and a lazy afternoon.

Soft whirring of the fan making heavy the eyelids,
trying in futile to stay open over a paragraph in a book.

With the little ones all wide awake,
chattering over games of carrom and chess
sending about a crazy cacophony of voices.

But with the red and green sherbets making up
for the tormenting heat outside.

Competing over how many mangoes one can eat,
a one..a two..and there's no count how many more.

The otherwise chirpy fruit orchard wears
a graveyard like eerie mood of it's own in the hot summer noon.

With not too many birds in sight,
yet you can sometimes spot a dog sulking in the grove hiding from the hot sunlight.

While I continue to crib and cry waiting impatiently for the monsoons
a sibling in a faraway land keeps fond memories of his Indian summer afternoons.

Into The Valley

To listen to our elders, and experience, the experience
All it takes in Tornado Alley, in sky view believe it

This is where we see the gloom in cobalt steel blues
Has a colour ever been acclaimed so much on the news

It's changes in shade, even whilst the minutes lapse
Once darker becomes her wrath, in touch within her clasp

She even takes our images, with these flashes of captured view
Alluring us in invitation, then allowing her strength to spew

I see nothing different to the decades of years I've been
Maybe it's now in view, to this modern human circus theme

I can still recall the past, when giants roamed the earth
And yet they have still to complain, in the country of their birth

I'm an entity of being out there, do I apologise and feel my course
For this I'm unable to answer for which I'll never feel remorse

Upon rising from the shelter, storm damage explodes my view
Upturned monsters of the highway, skeletal trees stand untrue

Picket fences penetrate tree trunks that have withstood so many years
Assassinated by she called nature, guaranteed there are no tears

School buses in dented show, but allowing it's kids to be safe
But her anger still continues to flow, neighbour hoods safety depraved

I see nothing different to the decades of years I've been
Maybe it's now in view, to this modern human circus theme

I can still recall the past, when giants roamed the earth
And yet they have still to complain, in the country of their birth

I'm an entity of being out there, do I apologise and feel my course
For this I'm unable to answer for which I'll never feel remorse

Into the valley we have ventured, amidst the land of the free
Being here we were but strangers, for we culled the ones that could see

the Weather Forecast Today

The weatherman said sunny today.
All the dark clouds have blown away.
Yes, the sun is shining in sky so blue.
Most of what he said seems to be true
but he didn't mention the wind from the north.
How it blows and blows and now brings forth
a chill that burrows deep inside.
I'm sure the weatherman's filled with pride
because, yes, it's sunny we have to admit
but the cold north wind stings a bit.
It seems like summer from behind the window,
just step outside though and feel it blow.

First Snowfall

The snow swirled around our feet.
We raised our faces, there to greet
feathery snowflakes in the air,
on our tongues and in our hair.

The moon behind clouds, a shimmer.
A bare slice glowing, all a-glimmer.
No stars to be seen in the night,
snow-clouds have them hidden from sight.

The deer leave tracks in the snow
showing us which way they go.
To the trees and cover there.
This snowy sight they chose not to share.

Still our gaze upward goes,
watching this first of winter's shows.
Enjoy the snowflakes while we may.
Tomorrow they will melt away.

A TIME TO EVERY PURPOSE

l ... l l ...
when seasons fade to autumn then bloom to spring and in between a tick gives birth or dies to a winter sun, life’s seasons change from laughter to tears like a wing accepting; just as one begins, its ritual is almost done. Then back around again and again with one more swing as the hands of years’ journeys are fast-forward spun. Whether crimson trees , snowflakes , ruby fire or rain, each cycle has a timely walk through breath span’s lane. A time to mourn, a time to dance: there is a season; embracing the heaven's compass itself without reason.

Fall Affair

Fall’s fire is written on every deciduous tree, A chorus of harmony displayed for all to see. The first frost paints lace on the window pane, Patterns and designs are never quite the same, The smell of burning wood floats in the chilled air, Signs that everything’s in place for a great love affair. Come together and cuddle close by the roaring fire, Sipping at hot cocoa, looking at your heart’s desire. It’s time to settle down with that special someone, Beachboys and parties of the summer are all done. The spark burns brightly on this lovely autumn day, Hoping this new simmering love beyond fall, will stay. Written October 1, 2011 By Lee Ramage For Michael J. Autumns rich mellow flavoured air
Unmasked, the trees are now bare.

Seldom do we hear the birds sing
When the Autumn leaves are falling.

Smoke trails from the burning leaves
Carried on the light cool breeze.

The scent of spiced apple days
In the suns golden haze.

The Pine towering heavenly high
Dropping fragrances on passers by.

Smell the crisp refreshing air
Wind is blowing everywhere.

The leaves they scatter without sound
Gently cascading to the ground..

Winter arrives upon the wind,
bringing arctic climate to mind.

Flora loses petals and leaves;
fauna secures food from thieves.

even if the actions are bland.

Soon, I need to seal my window,

Summer's End

Potpourri of seasonal change drifts in the air.
Summer wanders near the clouds and everywhere.

Beach's pride of blazing sands is growing dim.
Soon the painted landscape wakes upon a whim.

Seeds are sown of Autumn's riches nearly here.
Summer wanes; we say hello to Autumn's cheer.

Leaves will change from sparkling green to golden blaze.
Now a bit of crispness lingers in our days.

Summer has it's wealth of fun and lovely weather.
Yet I adore the Fall when folks are drawn together.

Beauty all around and holidays I love.
Surely Autumn's sent to us from up above!

WINTER SCENERY

Beautiful celestial crystals grip the earth by the neck
And all servants of shiver on the skin pore deck.
A Tit in elegance flaps her leathery wings
And sings all blessings that winter brings.
Nude trees coated by soft pile of snow
Stand in awe and worship the silvery glow.
The Robins can never be left out,
The sweethearts of the very cold sprout
Dressed in orange-red and glittering brown feathers
And offer adoration to the cold weather.
No charmer like the winter's silvery gown
That carpets the dull face of every town.

Summer Fun---grammer school days

The day was hot as red rose sunny
We gathered eggs from holes like a bunny

Down to the grocer’s store we went
Sold our eggs funds on candies spent

With grandma abed off comes the coat
On goes the sneakers shaped like a boat

Big brother goes racing up to the gate
The youngest trying to be quiet shout wait

Round the corner comes the show truck
Reels of movies in boxes securely tuck

Hercules Ben Hur High Noon Dracula and such
We saw them o’er and o’er he hadn’t much

Big brother hops on the truck going up the hill
The youngest and I ran behind we know the drill

Hopping onto trucks is a skill perfected by boys
We girls had to be content playing with toys

Inside the show house the movie starts
Everyone must hear our throbbing hearts

On Brighton Beach

Tents of various colours in parade across the sands
It's summer time in Brighton as the sun beams down so grand

Families too many to mention, on blanketed abound
Whilst laughter resonates from the children all around

Even nature has her say as the waves caress the shore
Just like yesterday, and so many years before

Gliding terns and seagulls grace the thermal flow
As they anticipate the pickings that present them down below

Rock pools gather attraction, a learning call for the young
Explained by thoughtful parents, of how we all began

Sails of shapes and sizes appear against the blues
Boats and ships aplenty in sailing tacking cruise

My day now nears it's end, on this wonderful Brighton Beach
So many joys surround me, I'm so thankful their in my reach

As Summer Moves On

The colors are turning
The leaves are now burning

As summer moves on
It's soon to be gone

And fall moves on in
To throw in it's spin

To turn leaves to red
And fall to the bed

That covers the ground
Under trees all around

A natural quilt
That nature has built

A patchwork of color
That go with each other

A beautiful sight
Before falling white

The days pass along
As summer moves on

Sleighride

The frightful winter storm is o'er, now all is so serene.
Mellow moonbeams now flood the wondrous wintry scene!

The gaily-festooned sleigh glides silently o'er the pristine snow,
Laden with festive revelers, their ruddy faces all aglow!

The two svelte steeds trot rhythmically o'er snowy hill and dell.
Sweet melodic tunes chime merrily from each tiny harness bell!

Mom keeps hot cider flowing to fill each empty mug.
Recalling days of yore, Dad slyly steals a kiss and hug!

The kids urge Dad to make the horses go a little faster.
"No" says he, "With drifts ahead we'd surely court disaster!"

Candlight welcomes them to Grandma's house just beyond the bend!
Boundless love and a roaring fire await them, on that they can depend!

The Cold Of Winter

The cold of Winter makes me shake
Oh no! Here comes the first snowflake
I watch it as it falls and floats
I wish I'd worn a bigger coat
It falls upon the frozen ground
Landing there without a sound
Others come to join there fare
I tell you now, it's just not fair
Here comes more from up above
"Dang it!! Where'd I put my gloves?"
The chilly air brings ruthless bite
The falling snow makes all things white
I shiver at the seasons change
I'm not prepared for this exchange
Forget the reason I'm outside
I guess I'll just go back inside

Winter Magic

There's something truly magic, when snowflakes start to fly.
A fairyland of wonderous white, beneath a clear, cold sky.

I enjoy looking at the leafless trees, standing there so bare.
I also love the evergreens, which are also standing there.

The world is white and silent, draped in pure white snow.
It's a lovely winter wonderland, everywhere you go!

A mild north wind is blowing, snow comes swirling down.
It creates a feathery blanket, which covers up the ground.

Walkers footsteps are quickly hidden, by the freshly fallen snow.
Kids are out with friends on sleds, their faces all aglow.

Sounds of the season all seem new, with the crunch of boots on the ground.
There's so much to see in the great outdoors, when winter comes around.

The Seduction of January contest

The first month of the year is like a thrilling new bond
It’s as if someone has waved a magic wand
Seeking new dreams, desires and goals
January seduces like two yearning souls
Vigilant and eager, while daring to do what hasn’t been done
Just like the early stages in a relationship, this month seems to be all fun
Suddenly you’re inspired, motivated and alive
Throughout each new day you discover your vivacious drive
But just like any fast pace fling
By the end of 31 days most lose their zing
Reality sets in and you become more aware
You question if in the next 334 days you will still be committed and care.

Why the Rose Always Cries

Night after night, she sits down and contemplates
In her mind she knows her loss, but still she sits and waits

He, her husband, another statistic he has become
Killed in a far away land, another soldiers blood has run

Day after day she's taken back, to moments they had shared
Carving their names on a tree, showing teenagers cared

Through green fields of pastures new, season after season
At fourteen years old they clicked, love was a reason

Whilst she paces their family home, his steps gone forever
Killed in a far away land, another life now severed

In her time their kids will be told, daddy's never coming home
For the angels have asked him to stay, just to let him roam

Memories of their pasts resonate within her mind
For she knows she'll find no other, for he was one of a kind

Outside the window where she stares, under many seasons skies
She sits down and contemplates, why the Rose always cries

Falling In Love In The Fall

Falling In Love In Autumn (Couplets)

Autumn Love is mature and warm
Surviving Spring and Summer’s Storms

First love blooms in Spring’s first kiss
Young hearts lost in natures bliss

The Bird of Youth flies high and strong
Spring is when we hear his song

Summer sun brings reality
And no assurance of constancy

The Rose is Queen in Summer’s Sun
But falls to earth when season’s done

Winter is lonely, dark and cold
Without Autumns love, as we grow old.

FIRST SUNBEAM

 FIRST SUNBEAM

  Ray of clear sun shows
   Across the heaps of snows

   The whiteness's rival,
   Announcing the soon arrival

Of a host of its fellows -
   Welcome yellows,

   Not yet melting -
   Calling distantly to spring.

   A simple beam of light
   Warning the winter’s white:

Our time is now, brother -
You must move over for another

Note:

Canadian winters can be long and severe, and the
first hint of an ending is when the sun breaks through,
even though it is still freezing weather.

Autumn Lingers

Autumn leaves whirl in one last dance The earth receives old winter's glance Change is coming with morning frost Against the gate the branches tossed A quiet dream of autumn lingers on One last robin hops across the lawn Soon Ill be dusting off my winter self And put this golden season on the shelf....

Tactless Travel

Let’s travel to the edge of the earth

With sunshine in our veins

Let’s see how much this life is worth

As we leave out all our pains

We’ll go for miles, and we won’t stop

The sun will soon attack

Our lives we’ll trade, our hearts we’ll swap

We’re never coming back

A whole new start, a second chance

Floats softly into June

We’ll wade our time in cheap romance

As we howl at a transient moon

An ice cold flood of independence

Forms our own wicked sense of style

Our world needs more transcendence

This world just needs to smile

The ringing in our ears is no longer just a sound

The image of freedom is no longer just a dream

Because this limitless world is just a playground

Or so it may seem

A Kiss of Sunshine

Beautiful light that lasted for long
Your lightening shine suppress the cloud

Brilliant Beauty from coast to coast
Your brighter shine rule my world

My lovely kids love painting in your midst
Cos your presence add meaning to their paint

Myself as well stock under your bountiful
Likewise my firm, my wife roam through you

Your fins and flippers eat the sea
But your dominant serve the plant

That is why I love to kiss you
Cos you never demand without supply

My sunshine, you are the haven
That shine my home and my coats.

THE HANGED MAN'S GHOST

Listen my children and ye shall hear,
A tale to make ye quake with fear.

'Tis a scarey tale I tell ye no lie,
Of a man who was told he had to die,

For a crime he committed in the dead of night,
And on each Hallow's Eve he returns to the site,

Where his body was hung on an old oak tree.
Steer clear of the place or he'll come after thee.

He searches for them who hung him there,
'Thout proof save the voice of the golden hair.

'Twas she who belied his where-abouts,
So he searches for her within and without;

So if ye be fair with hair of gold,
He'll carry ye off where it's dark and cold.

Keep ye by the hearth on All Hallow's Eve,
Now I've said my piece and be taken' my leave.

Madam Winter

Lady in white you sparkle so
wearing an elegant gown of snow.

Crisping the air in chill of night
you frost our breath in sweet daylight.

Children's laughter singing out
while seasonal holly is strewn about.

Toasty toes in woolen socks;
gifts of love in every box.

A new year bringing promise anmd hope
and skiers gliding down every slope.

You bring us shorter daylight hours
for February's hearts and flowers.

Soon we'll begin the trek to Spring;
for now we'll treasure the joy you bring.

In Search Of Jacob

Winter Scenery

Angels' trumpets in full bloom
visible from living room.

Datura's lend their royal hue
complimenting high church's view

of advent colors. Speaking of Advent
it's strange, but this year I've had more comments

on my Christmas Cactus's promising swell.
Usually people don't notice 'till in full bloom, well,

we're on the verge of twenty twelve
and who knows what we'll find on each others' shelves?

Potted poinsettias outside in shade quite neglected all year
don't pout, they come inside now to fancy up and lend cheer.

A playful angel with his bow

These flowers, days and feelings if I take,
You rest without my dear green mistake;
A playful angel with his bow can partake
Of our friend azure with few clouds`steak;
If sweet and shy, young roses bravely bake,
Red will escape from heaven, for my sake.
So, other blond and gold attempt I make:
Sweet water lily, please don`t break
Serenity of inner blue with your rake;
Yet, yellow smiles happily asleep by lake.

Seasons Last Leaf

Seasons Last Leaf
Purged atop a lofty Popular
A singular leaf all that holds
Like in drowning - gasping for last breath
A life once was – now clinging to the past
The season of spring brought forth its life
Love to blossom to bear fruit and green
The wonders- all newly felt and viewed
The leaf smiled among the young it knew
In summer time the heat did soar
The leaf grew as rains did pour
By trials of wind water thunder and drought
The leaf endured each tribulation and grew proud
At first frost many shivered and fell
But most became brilliant chrisom red- do tell
A gathering of color painted by the creator’s finger
As the leaf among the many waited its time
Now the last- singularly purged atop the lofty popular
The life given it wavers to left than right
Until the leaf rest among the assembled piles afoot
In winter time a blanket comes
Upon the leaf the piles the ground
Nature cocoons to repair once more
The hope that comes after winter’s storms

September Rewards

Is there anything more splendid than a garden in the fall,
When your work has brought in treasure and it’s time to reap it all?

There are bounties beyond endless, all you need and so much more.
It is offered with such largesse; some to eat and much to store.

The old pear tree is so loaded, it will be hard to pick it all.
Is there anything so lovely as a pear tree in the fall?

Oh a garden in the springtime is a place of hope and cheer.
It’s perfection in September when the harvest time is here.

I remember Daddy bringing all the produce, with a grin,
And my mama bravely canning the profusion he brought in.

The cellar is overloaded and the bright jars line the wall.
Nothing is so satisfying as the harvest in the fall.

Spring

The sun touches me and the cold leaves from within.
I smell the good clean earth beneath my feet again.
The ground isn’t frozen. It feels so fertile once more.
The wind kisses my skin with warmth I want to store.
It’s still very chilly around here late at night.
But the beauty of the sun has begun to be just right.
I see the tips of new growth, springing up everywhere.
At last I leave my winter lair, for I have much to prepare.
A shower is coming tomorrow. I must hurry to set my plants.
But first I must rake the old leaves, left from winter’s rants.
My dogs stay close beside me to sniff the new tilled earth.
Even the smallest animals, rejoice in spring’s rebirth.
The images that beseech me as I leave this old house…
Are young, fresh, and with their colors I’ll soon be doused.
As the heavens begin to open and again bless this land…
My mind opens to see, the touch of God’s own hand.

As Pisces seeks the rivers fun

Taurus charges like a thundering bull
As Gemini blooms in meadows full

Scorpio's venom brings a sting to the wind
As Aries sings a song of Spring

Searching for Summer

#ONE#

The region that makes my blood grow green
Where are you in this pastoral's den?

Your vivid eyes is now poor like muddy hut
What has really come over you?

Behold our pebbles of gold and our planting grown
Ona, What is next to god you want?

#TWO#

Your nerve is forgotten so soon
Our share of roses and dine in the garden

It seem so soon, it is drying out from your memory
Our share of chopper and run for grasshopper

Honey, can't you call those days back
Our lone under the forest trees

Have you forgot our prayer for success
And our collective effort for your journey abroad...

...My lady, I will wait for many time
Because only you can complete me

My Summer, if to remain a pole with no hold
So long as you will return, I will not mind.

For your Light is my strength in the field
And brilliant kisses around natures are memories unforgotten.

Let someone please find me my summer
And tell her to come back home.

My Thougts of Summer

This is my absolute favorite time of year,
For summer swim is almost here.
Going to the beach to swim with my friends,
Then riding bike till the day's end.
Having picnics in the park,
Playing manhunt until dark.'
Camping with Channy, so much fun,
Sleepover at my house be the first one.
Making up stories all day long,
Sitting 'round a bonfire singing songs.
Fishing with Dad and you won't believe,
The big one I caught, got a chance to leave.
So, may the winter air please, go away,
Because Summer needs to be on its way!!

Autumn Down Our Road

Driving down our country lane yields
sweet fragrant orchards and vast pumpkin fields…

The bustling sounds of autumn are heard here and there
with early signs of harvest, and a rustle in the air

A tractor is billowing dust up through the trees
frightening the birds, and disturbing the bees

Tall wheat has been harvested and raked in high stacks
Into neat hills and mounds, alongside the old railroad tracks

From the high reaching branches, the ripened fruit has smiled
with mountains of bushel baskets teetering in piles

Wagons are loaded with round pumpkin faces
Displaying fall’s bounty so proudly, in warm sunny places

Her Virginal Lie

The first snowfall has arrived, carpeting natures grounds
Her pure virgin lay blows me away in total abound

The winters colours now hidden, no more ashen dulls and greys
For a marvel appears before me, I'm smiling on a winters day

Skeletal trees show promise, shadowed by topside white
In turn it allows the nighttime to show an element of bright

Rooftops now show like tiles amidst a background of black
Streetlights sharpen it's glow, for it's white shall never lack

I awaken the following morning to find her virginal lie now scathed
Footsteps of natures creatures criss-crossing their mental pave

Having witnessed the first snows of winter, shows another seasons here
Her tomorrows I look so forward to, to me she so endears

Gourds

One of autumn’s great rewards
Is seeing farm stands, stacked with gourds.
Orange pumpkins take their places,
Waiting for their scary faces.

Other gourds have shapes bizarre –
Who knows what the heck they are?
Speckled, stripy, curved and green,
Strangest veggies I have seen.

But my favorites at the stall
Are the tiniest of all.
They’re like pumpkins, only mini –
Seeing them, I get all grinny.

Imagine if all elves and gnomes
Have mini pumpkins at their homes.
If so, I’ll bet their mini-swords
Make jack-o-lanterns of those gourds!

To my left it stands weathered by seasons of time Memories so many, absorbed in it's walls Even a fire could not deny us of it's history Ones thinks of the efforts to save this once fine structure Now ram shackled to ruin, it brings tears to ones eyes Built just before the Civil War, it hid many a lost soul Many a storm caressed her wooden frame Whilst sheltering beasts remained safe from nature's anger Summertime's were so joyous with barn dances Even weddings were celebrated within these walls Sadly economics became it's downfall My great grandfathers red barn, a shadow of it's former As you travel through the mid west There are many eyes like mine, viewing and sharing similar memories

No Basketball

The playing starts each October in the fall.
But alas, this year there is no basketball.

Another season should have started for the NBA.
However, fans will not see their teams play.

From the Knickerbockers in New York, to the Lakers in LA,
will this competition start? Nobody can say.

As we approach winter, there is increasing doubt.
The owners have gotten together and locked the players out.

We will not see free throws or slam dunks today.
It appears there will be no playoffs in May.

With no basketball to see, where shall we go?
Perhaps a blizzard will come, and we will shovel snow.

Falling Like The Autumn Leaves

Through the rustling leaves we take a walk.
In wisps of breath we whisper and talk.

We're making plans and falling in love
as cascading hues are painted above

As we slip inside, the passion surrounds us.
The crackling fire glows warm around us.

You take my hands and our fingers entwine.
As you wrap me up,I know you're mine.

Your body fits mine like a glove.
We're falling so deeply in love.

We'll be with each other this holiday season.
My happiness soars and you are the reason!

The dog days of summer come whetherwe want them or not.
Laying in a pool is better than being hot.

The dog days of summer are here from dusk til dawn.
We're all wishing for rain to water the lawn.

The dog days of summer are for swimming and fun.
Fishing or baseball even tanning in the sun.

The dog days of summer are hot enough to fry an egg.
Wishing the days were cooler so I wouldn't have to beg.

Crossing the Yellow Lines

Pavers of life worn down with ware
Solid blocks built upon, set with care
October years spent mending the cracks
that Septembers years most surely lacked

Crossing the yellow lines
with a quivering spine
as November draws nearer
December years decline

Autumns harvest of memory troves
feels winters cold remembrance slow
Golden nostalgia, like falling leaves,
too briskly escapes in winters breeze

December Night Snowfall

Drifting snow, so sweet, so silent- but echos in the dark blue sky
The trees, so dark, are now bright with the snow's lullaby

They sway to the whisper of the sweet wintry wind
While the animals hide and huddle, feeling cold and chagrined

The snow stops falling, and there is hardly a sound
Save the wind making the trees push the snow on the ground

The sparkle of the snow reflects the light from the moon
and the trees eat it up with a light silver spoon

No footprints exist in the pure land of sparkly white
but the prints of a doe who passes too quickly for sight

The clouds come back in- slowly, they creep in
Whispering to the trees that another snowfall will begin

Holidays are Here

The holidays are here, they feel so warm
Even if outside the snow is causing so much harm

My Christmas tree is glowing
With little lights and decorations, so lively and flowing

There, I sit and enjoy the glowing essence
Of the festive season which makes me reminiscence

With eagerness and zeal, I anticipate,
The golden surprises Santa shall leave for me and my cellmate

Yes, the jail is my home,
Not a house but one with love and care, yes, my home

Here, I spend with my brothers of deed
This Christmas holidays, even if the aroma is one of bitterweed

It's Bittersweet

I have determined to age with grace
To show off each wrinkle on my face.
I now accept there is more of me
Much more than there was at twenty three.
There’s a sprinkling of the salt in my hair
That mixes well with the pepper there.
The spring of my life has given way
To vibrant colors that will turn grey.
I know that Summer must bow to Fall
And then Fall will answer Winter’s call
Every age has beauty I've been told
There’s bitter sweet pain in growing old.

Sprung

I step outside the house this morning
And notice a change that's come without warning
Yesterday the air I breathed was bitter
So much so that it made me chitter

Today there seems to be a hint
Of the warmth coming after winter's stint
The atmosphere seems different too;
The sky, a slightly brighter blue

There's also a scent that I remember
Disappeared completely around last September
It seems to be returning now
And is that a shoot on that high bough?

I, myself, feel different as well
There's a certain optimism casting it's spell
Over my usual gloomy bent
Changing my mood to one of content

Looking around at the once bare earth
I see the signs of brand new birth
I smile at the world, it's new life still young
It seems, that finally, Spring has sprung

Musical Fruit

It is the seasonal time for gas.
It’s usually gentle on pass.
Favorite when weather gets cold.
Age old recipes prepared so bold.
Tis natural things, we all do.
Some may try, though there is a clue.
Cannot mistake the odor it shares.
Indeed it is made with natures cares.
Warms the body, soul so very well,
Though it has a historic story to tell,
Tis the season for many more things,
Truly it has a musical tone that rings.

SERENITY RESPONSE

SERENITY RESPONSE

The winds of autumn blow
Creating change

The crux of the matter
Do I bend or do I break?

Willow knows the truth
She may weep besides waters deep

But she drinks in courage to face the future
And bends when winds do blow

And in her serenity - she survives
'She accepts the things she cannot change'

The Serenity prayer by Reinhold Niebuhr

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference Amen

What Did I Ever Do To You

There are many things that are caught by the naked eye
They could be weird or strange or even crazy things that'll make you cry

Think my strangest encounter thus far
Was a little skunk caught in a snare from my car

In underbrush and weeds so high
Heard it's whimpers then saw it's final sigh

Razor edges wrapped around its head
For sure I thought it was dead

As I moved in closer to take a peek
Its hind back arched and sprayed oh how it reeked

Poor little guy I could do nothing for
Except call D.N.R and cry once more

As they placed it in a steel cage
Heard the officer say it was that of young age

When do you think one will learn
Gods creatures did nothing in return

Rolling Hills In Winter

It is cold this morning, my breath a cloud of white
No snow yet, although it rained a bit last night

My path today meanders around the quiet lagoon
Enjoying the white of last nights winter moon

Far away mountain peaks are iced with snow
Faint sunshine gives them an aerie glow

Almost every leaf is gone from the old apple tree
But there is beauty in the gnarled skeleton I see

Coyotes cry from behind the oak topped hill
Perhaps they know harder times are coming still

There is a stark beauty in this winter face
I find a certain kind of peace in this quiet place

A winter walk....

Equinox Love

Her presence as cool as autumn breeze,
Her grey color eyes do faithfully tease.

Her kiss as soft and gentle as floating leaves,
Her caress as warm as the one she receives.

Autumn colors perfect her body’s movements.
With precious curves, needing no improvements,

Her curious laugh that sparkles like the morning dew,
Certain words she speaks that deliver clever queue.

Even her slight anger intensifies my love so deep.
Falling in love in the fall places all issues asleep.

Autumn romance sets a warm tone before cold arrives.
Truly in this time of year, love endures and survives.

Barefoot Child

I remember summer fun as a child
Going barefoot, running wild
Catching fireflies in a jar
Making a wish on a shooting star

Skinny dipping in the creek
Playing kick the can and hide-n-seek
Riding a stick pony, with an old straw hat
Major league ball with a broom stick bat

Making pinkie promises with my friend
Hoping summer would never end
But all too soon the summer was gone
And before I knew it, the years had flown

Sometimes I wish I could have one day
When all the years just melt away
So I could go back then
And be that barefoot child of ten

Season Circle

When leaves have fallen to the ground,
The time for winter is around.

It's time for birds to fly away
To warmer lands where they will stay,

'Til gone is winter's icy blast,
And spring is here again at last.

In springtime all the flowers bloom,
And people spring-clean with a broom.

Fawns are born and bears awake,
And rain again fills up the lake.

The smell of the air is fresh and sweet,
And the baby birds give a small "tweet, tweet."

When summer's come and spring is gone,
The skies are clear at morning's dawn.

The days are hot, the lake is cold,
Yet swimming each day never does grow old.

As fireflies light up the night,
The starry sky is quite a sight.

The leaves are now red, orange and brown,
As to the ground they soon fall down.

This is a sign that fall is here,
But yet the weather is not drear.

A chill tell bears it's time to sleep,
As farmers finish their harvest reap.

The Season Circle is now complete,
As winter once again we greet.

I chose to take my only chance
to see the world,

pure happiness ,
the flight I took,
and as my day draws to an end,
I'd choose to do it all again!

A Study in Equinoxes

Beautiful Venus smiled upon her Mars
Diving through time and space, falling from stars

With hooded eyes she moved to entice him
Green hips waving about, a flower stem

When Spring revealed her kingdom to his awe
At last Jack Frost's cold heart began to thaw

They slowly sway together, building trust
and into the virile clay he did thrust

Sweet succulent nectar she did siphon
In full sun, the fruit began to ripen

He grew much stronger, harvesting the field
Took such pride in the bounty it did yield

But time caught up to him and he grew old
Autumn leaves mourned his light that now shone cold

Venus held him close and they danced once more
his body weakened and her waters tore

Taking one last gasping breathe, another
The wailing son now proclaims her mother

Not necessarily mythologically accurate...but a cute little story about the seasons.

Scenes I've Seen

A rifle is not the weapon of choice this year
I am not here to try to shoot a deer
My eyes, my ears, my camera are the tools I take
My desire is to discover incredible shots to make

Sunrise's yellows, blues, and pinks burst into view
Spiderwebs, intricately woven, outlined by dew
Hoar frost's icy fingers grasping clumps of weeds
Sumac is naked except for russet heads of seeds

Tall pines in the wind, glistening in the sun
Chipmunk crossing the road fast as he could run
Mushrooms with bright orange domes by the road
Autumn in all her glory, her fiery finery I do behold

Berries-purple, red and black in the forest bright
Quartz crystals shimmering pinks and white
I watch a hawk soar easily on the updrafting wind
The most amazing sight of all comes at day's end

To camp we go as the sun sinks slowly in the west
My camera catches scenes of the view I like best
Sunset changes her attire as we make our way
Crimson blazes to twilight hazes ends this day

Full Circle

The blue burst forth upon the trees
with the kind of glow heat lightning leaves
The paper wasps and moths agree
to incense dust the coral seas
As the velvet wonders drowsy yawn
the nightingale begins her song
They all perform this grand charade
to quell the summer's heat tirade
The fascination of the breeze
leaves rings of kohl on all the trees
and autumn exhales all it's zest
to bring the earth to her winter rest.

Woke up to winter contest

I woke to a blustery, windy, chill,
Rushing through my windowsill,
The room was dark, I lit a candle to find my way,
I was far from home on a frozen covered bay,
As the light switch went on to my surprise,
The world as I knew it was polished and winterized,
From inside it seemed marvelous and surreal,
Until I opened the door and had a quick feel,
The trees shimmered and sparkled, the ground was like fine glass,
This moment of glory, was an image I could not pass,
Though outside was like the artic, its beauty was a wonderland,
The wind consumed with ice pellets hit the house like grains of sand,
The porch was filled with crystals a shiny mirror for my feet,
I put on my boots and allowed the ice and I too meet,
The smoke that floated from my lips was as if I had just put a fire out,
I only lasted a few moments before the warmth in me made my insides want to shout,
I spent the rest of the day by the wooden stove with hot chocolate on demand,
Taking in this piece of art work, an original, from the master’s hands.

Sugar Gift of Autumn's Hips

The sun persuaded the earth to move

and slip,
                slip,
                       slip from her summer groove

as we climbed to the top of the autumn trees

and swayed with the sway of the orange breeze

He held in his hand a bouquet of leaves

all crackled in crimson he gave them to me

Their scent lingers still on nostalgia's page

for I laid them to rest, as the season's sage...

Nostalgic Love

Chrysanthemums bloom, heralding in fall,
Pumpkins bring delight to one and all.

The air is filled with fragrances so sweet.
Colors of the leaves an artist’s treat.

Memories of walks along cool lanes,
Weather maps show paths of hurricanes.

Snuggles in the park watching a game.
Hand in hand, each yesterday, the same.

Squelching summer heat will soon be quenched.
Autumn breezes in my heart entrenched.

Chilling winter sneezes, wearing gloves.
Nostalgic love: fall and turtledoves.

AN EARLY STROLL

Clear sky above, crisp breeze of dawn
gently blowing on our sun-tanned skin.

Lost in the autumnal beauty before us,
we hear the leaves crackle as fire logs.

No bird songs to greet the golden-colored sunrise,
only two lonely souls walking as it grows and shines.

Many distant thoughts of Yule and gifts
escape from us with only joy to embrace.

The sunshine feels warm as the morning advances,
a few clouds appear and cast a shadow on the waves.

This path leads to a rolling hill which we ardently seek,
from here dreams never flee to disarm love's heartbeat.

FLY UP AND GLIDE

A risk taker is an adventurer, a taster of the fresh dew;
never satisfied until he has found that something so new.

Celestial bodies are clearly seen on a starless and mild night,
when the grayish sky invites a painter to invent his own light.

So fly up and glide over your extraordinary planet, and finally discover
what poets and dreamers only imagine to exist in their passionate gesture.

The unmitigated impudence of this season has already brought its first, despised pang;
changing emerald leaves to dull auburn, reminding me of the briefness of life's span.

Can't find any excitement in the boring ways that spoil your day and make you sluggish?
Try flying up and glide over this planet's panorama that can grant the spectator's wish.

Earth-bound with that satiated feeling, departing from a glorious view and a gibbous moon;
glad to land on a snowless ground, too anxious to send up, on drifting winds, my red balloon.

Money

With muse in hand
How do I make one understand

I love colors of shaded green
Does not make me nasty or mean

For it's in our lakes
And even in things that we bake

It 's canvass for our trees
Even sometimes stains on our knees

There's hues of bladed grass
Where we have all plop our ass

Even passing clouds
Looking purified and aloud

So here I'll stand and raise a toast
To the color green on money who everyone loves the most

Mild August temps bring about to mind,
Memories of summer that have gone behind;
Fleeting days that lead to autumn are here at last,
Summer's solace has left, weeping in the grass;
Few girls care to show their smooth toned midriffs,
Gorgeous eyes reappear, out from dark sunglasses;
The autumnal, brisk winds that have a chilling feel,
Makes you want to slow down and begin to congeal;
The bleakness and gloom of winter follow suit,
Rendering the sun's heat moot.

WELCOMING WINTER

WELCOMING WINTER

In mid-winter we will be wed:
Oh, that the cool whiteness could be sped !
How my heart waits for her cool embrace
And the feel of snow flakes on my face,
Running warm through her frosted trees,
Watching the river’s fastness slow to freeze,
And the warmth that follows a ski-run,
And the snowshoe races full of fun.
Waiting so long is a weary task,
Till I’m crumping her white damask
Into pearl-grey hollows ,
And shaping shallow billows.
Then our hands touch in warmth and we know
There’s only a few weeks to go :
A smile from each diamond encrusted branch
Shows my face all a-blanch.
As my love walks close by me in a hush
My heart overflows at her special blush.
On sunlit silver snow no cold-eyed tear.
Oh my heart yearns for wintry land soon this year !

Rain

I could tell it was raining before I even heard
The pitter patter of little drops

Because it was hard for my body to get out of bed again
But what am I saying!? It's always hard for me

To escape the colored covers and my dreams
It's hard enough to exist in reality

Let alone be forced into it by the bring of an alarm.
It was always easy to make someone laugh

It's like this life has been one long headache
And my days are one Advil after another

I close my eyes hard enough to escape
And i can't close my ears or ignore the sound of the clock

Telling me to wake up.
Telling me to wake up.

They say after the rain there's a thousand
Poetry submissions titled "the rain"

So this will go un-submitted
Just like a thousand others

Ring out the old, ring in the new
Wipe out the tears that fell like dew
Put on a smile, walk an extra mile
Clean out the gut of all the bile
Shake off the dust, polish off the rust
Hold out your hand in deeper trust
Fight out the loss, take up a cause
Rid your self of all the floss
Take a chance, try out a dance
If you want, go to France.
Drop the work , take a perk
Tell the boss no more to shirk
Pick a tale, spin it round
Till all your foes fall to the ground
Ring out the old, ring in the new
Here’s wishing you adieu !!

That Time Before Winter

It's that time before Winter and all through the yard
run pathways of petals all beautifully charred.
An assortment of heartwarming hues can be seen:
deep reds and bright yellows and shades in between.
How my innocent heart beats with hummingbird pleasure
at the sight of these wonderful bundles of treasure!
So I say to myself while my heart is a thumping,
"No time shall be wasted, these leaves are for jumping!"
To the largest collection of colors I race,
with laughter aplenty, the wind in my face
and the sun at my back, pushing me with its rays,
as I spring into Fall without looking both ways.
I land soft in the pile that the season provides,
as if leaping in laundry just recently dried,
and upon my resurfacing what should I see
but the base of what seems like a beanstalk to me.
I look up at the plant and think Jack would be proud
to descend such a towering tree from the clouds.
Though it's lacking its leaves, looking lonely and bare,
I just can't help but smile as I harmlessly stare
at what once was full green, so I shout out "hooray,"
giving thanks to the trees on this cool autumn day.
To you children at play, be your yards big or small,
Happy Leaf Leaping, friends, and to all a good Fall!

High Timber Autumn

Myriads of golden flickering leaves dance,
Glinting reminders of coming circumstance.

Stately spruces preside as they have done before
with certain reserve, they know what’s in-store.

A hearty clear stream, shares stories from on high
with any who will listen, as it babbles by.

Stands of birch trees closely huddled together,
Warmly blanket their feet, determined to weather.

Mossy damp scents with forest aromas convey
An urgent message to all that snow is on its way.

Succulent cranberries and wild blueberries abound,
Last minute snacks for hungry bears around.

Still there are a great many bare larders to fill,
Burrows to protect; from the coming hard chill.

Indeed, there is much work so much to prepare,
As night prompts morning with moist brisk air.

And at full moonrise, in a deep cobalt sky,
Wolves will once again recite lonely cries.

Hang In There No Matter What

People do anything for money and that's truthfully so.
Money may be green but it doesn't in the trees grow.
And now we wonder if we're living in the last days too
It is time for you to seek God's face repent and pray.
I worship and glorify His holy name every single day.
When I don't read His Word I'm really feel bad and sad.
So many things and situations make me in fact mad.
And now we wonder if we're living in the last days too.

The economy is awful and the mighty dollar gyrates downhill.
Unemployment is at its worst and my heart is truly ill.
Winter is bitter cold and frosty snow plummets from the sky.
Good times come and go and friends will betray one day too.
So many people believe they're very smart.
Some rise early and some make a late start.
Many watch and hear but they don't listen with their heart.
Sometimes I feel fine but now and then I want to cry.
I try so hard to understand some many things or hence I try.
And some of us wonder if we're living in the last days.
It is time for you to seek God's face repent and just pray.

You want all your problems and mistakes to go away.
You wish you have more time in your hands to play.
Money may be green but it doesn't in the trees grow.
People do anything for money and that's truthfully so.
Good times come and go and friends will betray you one day too.
There's too much on my plate but there isn't much to do to say.
I worry about my future as you make about your way.
But in my heart I love you so and always will think of you.
I bow my head and pray hard that we can stay alive this day.
Winter is bitter cold and frosty snow plummets from the sky.
It is time for you to seek God's face repent and just pray.

Ones Own Dream

Whispering tinkles speak to my soul so clear.
Curving styles go past as I watch so sincere.
Restful unbroken missions set my spirit free.
Rolling scents accentuate emotions in me.

Scenes such as these are my haven from pains.
Emerging sprays from graceful heavenly rains.
Pouring down gently they separate the current,
In such a stylish way this halts any kind of torrent.

This stream that I call natures blessing these days,
Has a sanctification of its own in so many ways.
As if God has given consent for a miracle of peace.
To which has been shared with me in special release.

In dedication of the honor that I have to share with you,
Praising nature that he gave to me and everyone else too,
I write about my precious secret stream for all to know.
Revealing its location is to allow one and all to go.

Though there is not any one location that you can find.
There are many secret places where one may go to unwind.
All the wonders of nature drift along any brook or stream.
Anyone just has to take the time to find their own dream.

Weed And Feed

On my day's journey
Think going to a basketball tourney

Stopped by sisters house
It was as quiet as a mouse

Out in her garden she sits
Hoe claw and gloves of misfits

Peddle pushers to kaboot
Gotta love her for she's a hoot

She kept digging at those weeds
And filling the holes with new seeds

I asked if she was tired of this
She replyed no as she turned and twist

See hoeing your garden
Is like a life's pardon

You might say it's like losing weight
Shedding unwanted pounds you hate

The hurries and worries
Even if their some kind of snow flurries

As we laughed and cried
I felt more pride

For my sister did it to me once again
Helped me weed out my own garden from within

And I like to bask in sun and be just a little lazy

Yellow is my domain
Don't it want to drive you just a little insane

I am a world traveler
Dressed in many coated furs

I love to lounge by valleys and creeks
Even mountain tops at their highest peaks

Don't mind my matted hair
May be parted but its still has golden flare

Been stepped on one to many times
But I bounce back every time

Members of family had heads chopped off
By farmers who want to lower their crops

I love to play splish splash with the rain
Makes my fragrance drive one insane

I can even tell if you like butter
By holding me under chin like there's no other

So stop by and just pluck me up
For I just want to be somebody's butter cup

Stewards of the Land

From the window, I can see
Snowy blooms on the dogwood tree

Cows grazing on pastures green
Baby calves, such a lovely scene

In my country heart, I seek
Words that describe, words to speak

So that others may read these lines
And find a deeper peace at times

God has filled our world with beauty
To care for it is our only duty

Stewards of the land are we
Keeping it beautiful for all to see

Mountain Road Trip

Dogwood branch extending, end of summer's bloom
Shadows on our windshield, blinking from the gloom
The sunny skies are peeking, brightness with a glare
Reveals a changing forest, the trees becoming bare

Pines are shedding cones, we see them in the road
Soon with weighted snow, limbs fall from heavy load
Squirrels are storing larder, prepare for future's need
Nature getting ready, is planting winter's seed

Wisdom Of The Last Leaf

How can you ever reap my sweetest fruit
When you cut me entirely from the root?
A root sage as the last leaf of autumn
Descending downward to its unknown tomb
With its words of wisdom of which I sing
In vibrant voice but you hear me nothing!

Autumn Cowboy

The cowboy in cascading leaves has lingered much too long,
As he sings amid red and gold, summer’s last dying song.
The sky is clear and blue this day, but change is in the air—
Far mountains shine with crisp, white caps and blow cold wind through hair.

He softly spurs dreams into a stampede of falling leaves—
Wishing that the best of worlds would bring bad men to their knees.
He turns his horse to the north and heads for that old line shack—
Hoping that the larder’s full and come spring he’ll be riding back.

He trails sweet salmon sunset as brass leaves rustle the breeze—
Far sky melts to shining white as snow is held back by trees.
He knows hard winter’s coming, its cold silver slides in fast—
For a time he savors summer, knowing good things don’t last.

The cowboy in cascading leaves has lingered much too long,
As he sings amid red and gold, summer’s last dying song.

Mighty Oak

We start out life as blossoms. Then we turn to hues of green.
Our resting place is on the wise and mighty oak tree.

The oak displays us ever so proudly, way up high.
Where we can almost touch the heavens. The sky.

We dance in the soft breeze, for all to admire and see.
Our purpose is to make air, so others can breath.

As we grow old, we’ll shelter the squirrels. The birds.
We silently sit. We need no introductions. No words.

When our time is nearly finished; we’ll fade and turn brown.
The mighty oak will then set us free.

We’ll gracefully float to the ground.
For our grand finale, we’ll slowly vanish into the soil.

We’ll nourish the oak. Return next season.
We’re its’ servants. We are loyal.

We’ll begin again as blossoms, and then change to hues of green.
Our resting place will be back on the wise and mighty oak tree.

And the Whole World's Sweet...

In a burst of fellow feeling from the sunshine to the earth
ripened blooms to be revealing soundless voices yet unheard
as they seep into my windows with the sugar scented air
set to spark imagination with a certain savoir faire
I'm entranced beyond all vision thought to signify the spring
and I wake to comprehension and the stature that it brings
for I know the movement of the earth relates to every being
and I feel the warmth upon rebirth in saplings to be seeing
In a burst of live sensations from the sunshine straight to me
theres the marked deliberation to be floating, to be free
As the scent of passing flowers find their way into my room
thus the sunshine overpowers and desires every bloom.

Summer Love

Summer is a beautiful time of the year.
Flowers are blooming lovely, and can be seen so clear.
Summer is about fashion, food and fun, it can also be the perfect time to run.
I love summer because you see a lot of green, and this is when I break out my
sewing machine.
Summer is a time when you should look your best, so I sew clothes that I think
look better than the rest.
Dresses, skirts, and pretty blouses, I have even made a pair of adorable
trousers.
Summer is warm and summer is sweet, and this is when people really feel like
a treat.
Ice cream, candy, maybe a piece of pie, I love summer so much I hate telling it
goodbye!!!

No Big Deal

The new is always a novelty,
the old just a page in history.

Yet nothing is really changing,
just this tired world spinning.

Life is one monotonous grind,
a drag on this restless mind.

My Sister's Complaint

As I sit and watch the seasons change
Through my dirty window pane
I think how my life is so boring
The dog is barking and my husband is snoring
My son bounces around like a jumping bean
He's the most hyper kid I've ever seen
If I had wings, I'd fly away
Even if for only a day
I'd soar through the air so free and light
Then go to a casino and play the slots all night
But it does no good to wish or complain
Guess I'll just go wash that damn window pane

Catharsis of the Spray

I shall write an ode one day,
To my lord of the eternal spray,
When I can no longer walk the shore,
When I cannot endure the heat,
Of children starving in the street,
And I can no longer bear to hear,
The screams of spirits, loved ones dear,
And in my ode, I shall ask,
What workman could have forged the glass to block the darkest light from fright,
Maligning my air, my stars, my night?
What engineer could be so skilled,
To devise a foam so potent in form,
Clearing waste of human storm,
The day comes, the sea and I shall be one,
And I sing my ode as devoted son,
Waiting with kindred until child prays,
For our cartharsis of the spray.

Summer Days

Sweet summer days of yesterday I long to see your sun
The tanning skin, the smell of flowers, and all of the beach fun

The winter has made me an enemy of the days that remain cold
In fact the season’s dragging on that it’s just getting old

Through springtime and its new rebirths, I long to witness you
The sunshine of the summer sky and the many things to do

So, summer days of yesterday, t’is my intention to let you know
I count the days to your return, as these winter winds do blow

Queen Anne's Lace

Queen Anne's Lace, brittled brown
donned in snow instead of a crown
off the side of the tar, where the deer still roam
bent toward the wind on their freeway home
From their bird's eye view the cars blur air
They bend in a bow with elegant flair
Although they be broken, no speck of green
They know their own legacy, royalty preen
And once in a while, their subjects take note
as I did on last Sunday while using their road
As a passenger in one of the whooshing cars
Fogging up windows, under their stars
I noticed their caps and their grace and their strength
I swallowed my voice and gave pause at length
They've brushed by my legs in summer, bright green
Jeweled earrings of bees, crowing lace between
Royal Queen Anne's, brittled brown
wears fitting white ice as a noble crown.

Seasons

In the Spring of my life
I fell in love and took a wife
The children came with so much joy
First a girl and then a boy

In the Summer of my life
Things were good, there was no strife
We built a house and bought a new car
Everything was great-so far

In the Autumn of my life
Trouble began with my wife
Things got totally out of hand
And she ran away with another man

In the Winter of my life
I'm just trying to forget my wife
I don't know what tomorrow will bring
I just sit alone and think of Spring

Glitter Lake

Sunken to the bottom in the snap of blue delight
to simply bathe in glittering and crystal slushing ice
Silt and streaks of sunlight blowing through the gills of fish
sneak their skin upon my lips to usher in a kiss
Winter wilts and stutters as I shine my surface eyes
bubbles slipping upward toward the warmth of summer skies
Hold my breath to silver while I listen to the flow
Giltter lake alive my pulse until I start to glow

Song of the Fall

  I wrested Autumn

from the trees

to make a melody of leaves,

cacophony of yellowed reds,

reverberating in our heads,

Some crispy brown

and olive notes,

captured

on a breeze that floats,

straight to you

and through your door,

collage of colors

on your floor.

Haven Sublime

Cinnamon smiles and sleepy cut glass
a blur, flowing colors through windows and passed
Coffee beans crunched into steam in the air
The wind blowing winter through strands of your hair
Mountains in slumber and valleys in hush
Peppermint warmth from the moment we touch
Rest of the world falls in gridlock and twine
but we have found peace in our haven sublime.
Winter is welcome with smores by the fire
We now see the sky, fluid clear with desire
The stars reflect frost on the lawn, in our eyes
With blankets and thermos we head for the skies
Cider and cinnamon, mica cut streams
Breathing in pure like the stuff made of dreams
We polish our souls, unraveling time
for we have found peace in our haven sublime.

Shells of Winter

She feels to be broken, cast out and unkempt
to be left unwoken cocoon-like and bent
The egg shell of winter in powdered dust air
like fingers, like tendrils of wilt in her hair
Honesty in the room, blue and stiff beaten
like egg whites of snow crystallizing horizons
Just bury her too early sundown confessions
for she's lost in the shells of her pastime possessions

Autumn Ambrosia

Oak and maple trees turn to wines
As summer's final sumac twines
To autumn's cool amaretto scent
Among the season's soft lament.

The lattices of amber rose
Turn skeletal with fall's repose.

The final phase of new moon's chill
Brushes autumn upon the hill,
While fall's ambrosia soothes our fears
Of winter's cool crystal chandeliers.

Celebrating Rainbows

After a healthy downpour of rain,
Side by side, always the same
Today or tomorrow, a simple bow
The signal of hope, sunshine must follow
A destined bond, family tied
Silhouette of unity, predesigned
A joyous echo, long established norm
Classical collision, ensured, conformed

If each color grew tired of the next
Would independence leave us perplexed
Lava lamp like, these morphing beams
The stuff that’s only seen in dreams
Nature’s fireworks, marvel at the sights
Curse the sun’s interference despite
the churning clouds that bring the scent
of awaited drops that must descent

Which would you then celebrate more
Winter, long nights and stars galore
and rainy days, bountiful displays
or summer beaches and butterfly ways
The future may one day demonstrate
Impacts of change from the current state
For now, uplifting, shoulder to shoulder
Beauty, simplified, in the eye of the beholder

The Four Winds

COLD, blows the North wind
Chilling us to the bones

WARM, blows the South wind
Up from the temperate zones

GENTLE, blows the East wind
Stirring leaves with a sigh

STRONG, blows the West wind
Scattering clouds across the sky

Whom I Did Not Love?

Greetings to you, O, lovely sky
Show me my precious butterfly

Here I am before your majesty
Let us live tomorrow in purity

Like we were together yesterday
Watching the sun faded into gray

Time quickly passes
Age, suddenly, increases

Yet still, I am all alone
Sitting on your marble throne

Can’t you see me from above?
As I pronounce to you my love

In my own song of soft falsetto
Oh, remain to me, not in incognito

So, tell me Athena, my love
Whom I did not love?

SUMMER SCENES

Lazy days meld into one,
summer siestas just begun;

Busy bees morn 'til late,
honeycombs proliferate.

Speckled starlings sing with delight
on July swarms in nuptial flight.

Swallows circle in storm clouds low,
a foraging airshow ,to and fro.

Cricket willow on fields green,
traditional pastimes in England seen.

Gardens parasol bedecked,
where picknicing wasps wander unchecked.

Basil spreading six feet tall
 by freshwater trickling small.

Tidelines explored on a rockpool beach,
driftwood ,stranded,bleached.

Hammock sleeping 'neath a halo'ed sun,
a signal of September rain to come.

WINTER '47

Snow banked high against the gate
Walking to school,never late

Milk left solid on the cill
Ears well muffled,against the chill

Rationed coal,eked ,bit by bit
Fire grates, so rarely lit.

Nights of cold,run into weeks
'Til grass through iron soil,peeked.
