The Maid of Orleans

Reflecting in her garden sits a winsome little maid;
She holds a purple flower like the circlet that she made
And wrapped about her braids to grace her forehead like a crown;
Her thick and shining braids that are the shade of chestnut brown.
A soft and dreamy smile lifts her lips of cherry rose
As she so elegantly lifts the flower to her nose
To smell the rich and heady fragrance rising from its soul-
Upon this day in early May, her heart with joy is full.
But look! The heavens open wide, and joy is changed to fear,
For Michael the Archangel in the garden does appear,
And with him stand Saint Margaret and Saint Catharine, sent to seek
This girl of twelve, and in her frightened youthful ears to speak
Words form the Lord, of how someday, somehow, she'll have to save
Her native land, her land of France, from lying in the grave.
When in their bright angelic garb these saints to heav'n returned,
She knew they had been sent from God, her heart within her burned
With strong desire, with heaven's fire, to do her Father's will;
Her heart beats hard, while all around is silent, calm and still.

The years pass by, now seventeen, her hour is fully come,
And what is now but distant fancy, dull and throbbing hum
Will be her life, her joy, her pain; her darkness or her light:
For God and country, king and freedom, must, she must needs fight.
The chains of England must be broken, young prince Charles crowned:
A source of hope, of inspiration must for France be found;
For civil war rakes raging claws through weary, hopeless men,
Who fight and die, and sacrifice, and lose their homes again;
Their gardens, flocks and herds, and treasures, all are swept away:
With nothing left but life itself, and naught to do but pray.

God heard their prayer and sent her there for their deliverance,
To lead them on to victory through every circumstance
Of treachery or deviltry that loomed on every side.
Urged on by all the saints above and martyrs who had died,
She bound her armor to her body, helmet to her head;
A troop of eager soldiers to the Orleans siege she led.
Without a fear she faced the battle, banner held up high;
It filled each fainting heart with spirit, waving in the sky:
Unfailing, never falling, always standing at the fore,
And filling every weary soul with courage to the core.
Though wounded by an arrow striking close beside her heart,
She still pressed on to victory, she played her vital part.
The Maid of Orleans did her best, she held back not at all,
But risked her life at every turn to heed her heav'nly call;
She fought and bled and braved the beast until her king was crowned,
And even then she carried on, she traveled all around:
Each city gained broke off the chains of power-hungry kings,
Who killed to gain another's land, his citizens and things.

Alas! She met her fate at hands that should have helped her cause;
The countrymen she battled sold her to be judged by laws
And men that all disfavored her, yet still she firmly stood,
Proud head held high, two gleaming eyes; she answered best she could
Each twisted question meant to trap her clear but simple mind:
With wit and art she answered each; they really could not find
A cause for death, but death must be for such an enemy
The fate; who sees such visions full of vile heresy,
Of saints and angels revelating mortals with God's plan.
They also charged her with the sin of dressing like a man,
But it was of necessity she donned a soldier's guise;
For all throughout the war-torn realm roamed pairs of hateful eyes
Who did not heed a woman's cries, but did what pleased them best:
They killed or maimed or stained for life from eastern France to west.

So thus it is, not twenty years, they chain her to a stake-
The final chain that no amount of bravery can break.
Within her dress, hugged to her chest, she tucks a wooden cross;
The symbol of the Son of God, who faced such early loss
Of life, and like her was betrayed and mocked and led to die
Without a cause, without a crime, without a reason why.
Ten thousand people press around; she feels the burning heat,
As flames grow hotter, ever hotter- licking at her feet:
But on one thing and one thing only both her eyes are fixed;
Upon the figure held before her- on the crucifix.
And she is thinking of a time that seems so long ago,
When as a girl she used to sit and watch her garden grow;
She'd pick the purple petaled flowers, braid them in her hair;
Her life was simple, pure, and sweet, she hadn't any care
Until Saint Michael gave her calling to her way back then.
But if she had another life, she'd do it all again,
For God and country, king and freedom she could die this death;
And so it was that thus she died, and with her final breath
Her soul and body parted ways, and while her body burned,
Her soul went on to realms unknown, her soul to heav'n returned
Into the hands of He who made her, to the arms of Christ the Lord;
Who made for her a better body, more than just restored.
Here ends the troubles of this maiden, gone are jail cells dark:
Forever live the Maid of Orleans, known as Joan of Arc.

Let Go Of The Rope

Let go of the rope my tethered friend
Your holding on to a futile end.

For if you fall what’s the consequence?
But if never tried life won’t make sense.

And if you try and don’t succeed
You just may find its all you need.

See God is in the nothingness
Where pain resides along with bliss.

Its up to us to find the strength
And see what all this life is meant.

So take a fall, get up again
And leave that world of bogeymen.

We Dream In Pink

In moments of silence, we dream in pink tranquility,
a blushing sunrise draped in rays of hope. The ability
to stand tall and then rise, soaring over the beast, shaded
below. Our memories of sickness and sorrow faded
until our tomorrows are crowned in wreaths of laurel.
We are survivors! The beast cannot shred our blooming floral
spirits - our beauty, strength, resolve comes from our mother’s fight
in this long battle. We, who once walked alone, take flight
together on our promise to triumph in pink. We will leave
a legacy of unity to our daughters. We will not grieve
for the days before the noise in our heads became deafening.
We will seize the pink skyline and savor the silencing
of our fears. Prayers of hope will be heard across time and space
as the angels shout in Heaven. This is our fight! This is our race!
The finish line waits, in our sight, on the blazing pink horizon…

Sheltered Dreams Above The Clouds

Flying oh so high above the silhouetted trees
in stark of night salvation comes and floats me on the breeze.

I've sipped the sweet nectar of grace and laid forth all my dreams.
I'll likely fall but I won't fail,I'm nourished by moonbeams.

The light begins to filter through as dawn now beckons in.
The weary stars fade fast away and let the sun begin.

So goes the dance of sheltered wishes, destiny unspoken.
A painted sky will heal my soul and fix whatever's broken.

Tenderly I hold these dreams and see them to fruition.
Above the clouds are where they live awaiting love's nutrition.

Now every breath I draw will be succinctly mine to keep.
Eyes that see such dreams of beauty surely cannot weep.

Death of a Knight

Blood surges through the deep gash in his armor
while the brave knight writhes in pain and cries in anguish.

The battle is over now and the knight drops hard to the ground
knowing that his life force is ebbing and his strength is waning.

With the battle finished the knight begins his final fight
with Death in his inevitable glory and result.

The knight’s blood now slows to a quiet trickle like blood tears
while key moments in his life flash before him lightening quick.

The knight finds his comfort in love of family and country;
this is a moment of solace as his body tightens in Death’s grip.

His blood now seeps into the ground itself and his breathing grows shallow,
and twilight moves to darkness in the knight’s final conscious thought.

The knight murmurs: fighting, war, and duty to my king have been my life,
but now I must take leave of this mortal coil.

With that Death takes the Knight’s mortal body and the hand of God carries
his heavenly soul to everlasting eternity.

A soldier's friend

Slowly breathing with a steady beat
Boots are crunching you feel the heat

You inch on closer, looking around
Watching your friends make not a sound

You have been told to kill this man
A threat he is to freedoms plan

Hold up your rifle, take careful aim
Let go of the guilt your not to blame

Orders you follow a good soldier you are
Try not to think the size of the scar

That this order will bring deep in your soul
We raise the flag on top of this soldier's hole

I will give support, I will lend my hand
So you can brother, continue to stand

To fight for the freedoms of people everywhere
Down your rifle I, with you, shall stare

Unknown

Who am I?
Am I defined by what is near in sight?
Am I defined by what I have done,
Or am I defined by what I could become?

Perhaps I'm of no use.
To him, or her, or I, nor you.
Or perhaps I'm too misunderstood to be defined,
And it is something like understanding that comes in time.

And if to the world I'm never shown,
Yet in my own light I've grown and grown,
And so I can know no happiness but my own--
The reason for my smile, to you, will forever be unknown.

I do not pray for the world to know my name.
For it and verse; the letters are the same.
And if a man should find his sorrow in what he reads,
I pray his pain my words to keep.

Should his eyes rain on my page,
Better tears than storms of rage.
And if a man should find his sorrow in what he reads.
I pray his pain my words to keep.

And if to the world you're never shown,
Yet in your own light you've grown and grown,
And so you know no happiness but your own.
Let the reason for your smile, to you, only be known.

DON'T WORRY - YOU'RE COVERED

Copyright © 2013

Politicians' greed seems to hover
Over our lives, a simmering cover

Separation of Church and State?
  Satan planned mankind's fate

As in the days of Noah, sin did hover
Over their land like locusts do cover

The faithful do not fret what is hovering
By HIS Blood, the Lord is still covering

Our leaders refuse to make a deal
  When enthralled by Satan's Will

Politics, and selfish greed
  Failing our Nation's need

Obama-Care, a change that's fair
  Or, struggling against Satan's lair?

But, ye faithful remember the heavens hover
Till horns blow clearing clouds that do cover.

Mythology of Fire

In the beginning thus Prometheus who loved mankind
Stealing fire from the Gods of Mt Olympus
Then to Earth he did resign
Man marveled at fire’s glowing light
Finding comfort from its warmth at night
Rocks which surrounded the campfire pit
Melted their metals into the ashy spit
Man’s observant brilliant idea dawned
A forge a hammer a chisel and a spear
Once ferocious King of the beast who roared death
 Learned to tremble with fear
Bellows of goat skins did man blow across the red hot coals
The white hot warmth thus saturated the metal into hammer and fold
Pound the copper beat the tin-
So man did master the fire therein
Shields and weapons- tools and blades
Due the love of Prometheus made friend
We the man did gratefully accept
To Prometheus we are in his debt
And for his trouble did Zeus make plain
To steal from a God is unforgivable and disdain

A Girls Night Out

On a girls night out, without any guys
She dressed real sexy, showing off her thighs

I couldn't stop looking, I must confess
Admiring her form, enhanced by that dress

Dancing with friends, she exuded comely grace
If she was shy, she revealed not a trace

Passionate moves, made my temperature rise
Hers the embodiment, of bedroom eyes

Gathering my courage, I took a chance
Making my way over, I asked her to dance

She said "So sorry, I'm here with my friends
perhaps a coffee, when the evening ends."

I gave her my number and walked away
Wishing in that moment that I could stay

When the girls night ended, our night began
That sexy woman, made me feel like a man

Given It All

The match is approaching for time has now passed;
He eats a quick meal – knowing it to be last.

The field it is awaiting within thick fog and lights –
He knows that tonight is sure to be a fight.

He gets on a knee and says a quick prayer;
He does it so swiftly – this occasion not rare.

The field now approaches, ominous yet serene –
He sees his team waiting, their strength to be seen.

The ball is kicked and soars like a hawk;
And bodies collide with a thud and a shock.

A fight it turns out – their opponent of great size,
But his team presses forward with a fearless disguise.

Hard hits are given and he takes a few;
But he presses on, for his brothers do to.

Win or loss, fallen or tall,
He walks off the field having given it all.

Maybe it's too soon

We speak words of wonder
We speak words of doom

We wonder why we fight again
Maybe it's too soon

We have thoughts of beauty
We have thoughts of technology

Our thoughts are disrupted by the constant technological barrage
Ironically the ideas that created this technology were applied in a garage

Not in a fancy office with a worlds worth of knowledge just a click away
The thought was that this technology would help us evolve as a race

It has in many ways however it's stagnated many lives
With the ease of technology today the general public have closed their eyes

To the corruption that runs rampant in so many forms
To the possibility that we can rise above the norm

The situation isn't hopeless
Just start to think about this

THE REVITALIZATION OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN

Abstrusely they spoke about things unknown. They figured she understood because she responded within knowledge given by the Lord. Never could she state what was meant. She countered innately. She rejoined her past. Her findings were that someone, other than herself, revamped yesterday. How does history repeat? Atrocious is this cruelty. What went before is not to be. However, a reality has formed from yesteryear. The future is a seed, which has matured profusely. Seething a lost is she who faces a breach in her memory. Neurological resources are their tool. The mind willingly enters this superlative institute. Reconsider what has been done because tomorrow has come. Reflect to divert to revitalize a city’s self-worth. ___________________________________________ Penned on September 06, 2014!

The Boy Pilot-

Reporters waiting at the blocked off air- strip,
to get photos of the boy wonder at the end of his trip.
Around the world in his hot air balloon,
from Anchorage to Cameroon.
Picking up treasures from every land,
grizzly bear claws, and feathered bands.
The air ship lands while the crowd cheers,
The door opens , and the boy pilot nears.
“Will you make a statement?”, they want to know,
“What have you seen , and where did you go?”
I travelled wherever the wind blew me to,
met people , went places, that I never knew.
So, I have many tales to tell ,
of the wonders I have seen,
many stories to be written,
And I am but fifteen.

Candle's Single Shaft of Light

Erie sounds cry from the blackness of night
Dark clouds casting shadows over tonight's moonlight

Stumbling down an unfamiliar path I wind
Among obstacles challenging both body and mind

A wrong path taken, will I find home?
Or spend a night among nothingness alone

Then in the distance I see a single shaft of light
A candle in the window, everything's all right!

(A Purpose So Clear)

Like children we fear
  In secret a somber tear

Like learning to walk
 Babies listen to talk

And reach for a hand
  To help them stand

This too, we all must do
  By HIS Hand made anew

A Shaft of Light

There, within the sinister forest of despair he stood
Numb, lost as to what next to do

Before him lay a pathway to where…so unclear
As an empty feeling grasped his psyche, instead

Being a man, in subtle silence he bled
And in solitude made plans his heart held

Many boulders, stones lined the way
Soon became craggy mountains meant to stay

With blind faith, his gradual steps moved him to find
A future yet unseen, yet vivid in his mind

Soon, his eyes widen as he watched the fading night
As slicing through dense thicket arose a shaft of light

This Is The Life These Eyes Have Seen

Always swimming against the current, traveling a path that wasn't clean
A Pandora's Box of past experiences...This Is The Life These Eyes Have Seen
I remember when in grade school/sad at home/and fewer friends
In the throes of a shattered childhood...into the abyss this youth descends
Reading, Writing, and some Arithmetic, it was The Three R'S which kept me sane
Yet, in my psyche a storm was raging; nimbostratus and soaking rain...
By junior high much more than wretched/abuse endured would set the tone
Dark Midtown blocks, a hustler's playground...those streets of pain I walked alone
Things were done, it's called survival, deeds mostly wrong but, sometimes right
Only God above could Love me, a desperate child who sought The Light
I knew boys who sold their "manhood", a tragic fate, they sold their soul
Forty Second the eighties quicksand, and many kids were swallowed whole
Ingest these words of tribulation/I freebased when just sixteen
By nineteen on crack and fiending...This Is The Life These Eyes Have Seen
Chasing the cloud, yes, on a mission, losing sleep to find the drugs
Looking for hits, but, finding nothing/a thousand specks on darkened rugs
Then came prison/another nightmare/just twenty six/a second bid
Introspection/ineffable loneliness to pay for all the things I did
Striving hard to avoid all conflict, encountering things that made men fear
I went so deep within my spirit; no one could ever hurt me there
Adult years of daily suffering/teenage times that weren't serene
Still, several Blessings amongst the hardships....This Is The Life These Eyes Have Seen

I PURSUE MY BLESSINGS

I PURSUE MY BLESSINGS On this voyage that I travel, I seek. Treasure is to be found by me. Many miles away I must go to fulfill my soul. This journey I have chosen will end soon. I will treasure the memory the knowledge found. Many miles away I must go to fulfill souls. I am not tripping because I am expeditious. The crossing I chance is for riches. Many miles away I must go ambiance call. I have trek in South Africa. I roamed in the West Indies, etc... Many miles away I must go to prefect. I wandered far and wide. I found a life fortified. To flaunt the blessings I have found. Equipped to conquer more, I am satisfied, thus far. Many miles away I ponder. My rewards are humongous. The world knows. Wealth is shown. Many miles away I treasure hunt. A job well done! _________________________________/ Sponsor: Roger Horsch Contest Name: Many Miles Away Entry Date: March 29, 2014 Date Written: March 29. 2014 Motif: Many miles away

Admiral Lord Nelson

Blessed with ingenuity, he fought advancing tyranny
That stormed the sea in twenty-three great warships sailing furiously.

That day, October twenty-first, saw Admiral Nelson at his worst,
As cannons roared, while gunners cursed. The times were changed, the tides reversed.

Lord Nelson, as an admiral brave with all his fleet defied the grave,
His native land and king to save:-- his life for freedom's cause he gave.

In but a half a dozen hours he humbled Europe's finest pow'rs,
And toppled Tyranny's highest tow'rs; yet Vict'ry found him crowned with flow'rs,

And not a place the crown to lay, on him, nor all who died that day
In sending Britain's foes away, across the stormy seas of grey.

Windmill Cried

As I sit here, on a rectangular cake
Drawn and tied from Earth's oil, not fake

I wonder how to, in deuce, enunciate
of the state, wherein, I participate

Past tense, was I; island dwelling to hide
The thing that tied; and bound the path to dive

Terrific honey, which sleep required
Flowed wild with purpose; and never lied

Stuck to the ground; with entertainment quite boring
A guitar hero accomplished; nihilism recurring

With goods hands, in a happy place
The scenery dull, time for a break

On they came, or I to them
For me, really? Hesitation

They asked questions, quite leading, and when it was done
A train ride, to happy town, check in and tune down

The halls were quite clean, and the watchers quite ordered
The meals were on time, distracting and forward

Powders prescribed to keep time flowing even
Day and night cycle; Swiss bread repeating

As I arrived to despise the box I was in
The windows and doors that shuttered absent sin

And stuck as I was; with the ties to comply
My reply was a nod with a wink; and pity implied

Good fortune was kind to supply and find time
To use you and your keys to fly; surprise

The gears they did grind and mill for the bread
The water was lifted and carried far ahead

The story is now short, the sun breaks with news
Get out of bed, hair mend, speed spin, with trues

The modern super hero

Made up super heroes we're taught to love
Made up archetypes we watch get rough

We cheer on as they dispense justice
We've stopped questioning why we idolize this

As our heroes have become more brutal and more violent
We've become more detached and less present

We're passing our degradation of what it means to be a hero to the next generation
They won't be impressed until it's more violent, bloodier, the next super brutal sensation

STRONG WILLED

I've been held back for far to long,
now it's time that I just move on.

I will try to make it on my own,
right now my future is still unknown.

I live every day in constant fear,
of what lies in store or troubles are near.

I have to be strong and hold my head high,
because so far in life all I want is to die.

It's not going to be easy but just wait and see,
just what I become and who I will be.

How Many Times

How many times does God forgive,
Again and again, please just live,
How many times, can you fall down,
Over and over, you’ll be found,
How many times will I just pray,
For all your pain to go away,

For you were once my dearest friend,
In my heart your presence ends.

How many days go quickly bye,
How many birds sing when they cry,
How many cherubs fight for you,
How many angels dance the blues,

How many demons tried to take,
How many stripes for our mistakes,
How many times could I confess,
I never loved you any less
I never loved you any less.

How many times does God forgive,
Again and again, please just live,
How many times, can you fall down
Over and over, you’ll be found’
how many times will I just pray,
for all your pain to go away,

For you were once my dearest friend,
In my heart your presence ends.

Falling Apart

Sometimes it doesn’t go the way
You thought it would at all

Sometimes the pieces all line up
Though randomly they fall

Sometimes I guess you’re better off
Just following your heart

Cuz sometimes it can still work out
Though you’re falling apart

When Forever Comes

My Dear One,

If our time dwindles down, to a single day...only hours, left to have
To spend it weighted down by tears, such a waste of time that is

I would want to share the simple things, and thank my God above
that I can hold you close, here by my side, and be glad that we've known love

To pull down shades, in a lonely room, and grieve of fate's demands
are not for us, we will smile and pray, assured of something planned

The choice is mine, to spend this time, where your heartbeat sings for me
My head might spin, but my heart would lend itself to such belief

No need to hide or to run away, there's a time for everyone
We are meant to have, our miracle, this moment in the sun

We would spend a while looking all around, in the place we call our own
The rolling hills, all the daffodils, the mountains we call home

In the evening's tide, by fireside, we will have our love to share
I will hold your hand, in the soft moon light, to music of the stars

All the friendly hills, that are standing by, they will miss us, you and I
But when sun has set, with a sad regret, there'll be rainbows in the sky

The stars will bend, above our heads, and will whisper soft and low
With a quiet peace, in the lovely breeze, those silent words we know

When our time is spent, what they do not know, is that love will never end
If the truth be known, we are not alone, we will walk, still, hand in hand

SILENCE BESTILLS THE NIGHT

written 20th may 2013

As the world shuts down
lavish ladies put on their gown

Rest comes, as they comb their hair
while others, fight the midnight air

All living lives, they had exactly detailed
not a thought goes out, to those who failed

Homeless man...where was his fall?
can any of you see or care, that no one heard his call

One moment...one tiny second, it's lost
the next one to fall....could be anyone's cost

Be wise, and look to the skies
for he is the one, you need to recognise!

Amused and Unbuttoned

Our cards are on the table,
All my Aces are face down,
My Poker Face practised, perfect,
In for a penny or a pound?

Now the sweat beads at my temple,
I've misused my Aces High,
By sneaking one off the table,
And pressing it to my thigh.

I am not a cheat by nature,
I would win if I showed my hand,
But unveiling what's deliciously hidden,
Was always part of my plan.

You've got me where you want me,
I unbutton and strip without pause,
'A game well played' you whisper,
'I'll show you mine, since you showed me yours'

goodbye bad memmories

No more feeling torn apart,
No more useless Shitty art,
And no more aching in my heart.
You and me,
We have a thing.
It lifts me up and makes me sing.
My heart was broken,
Now together,
Hoping this will last forever.
No more crying empty tears
That have built up from the past.
Bad, old memories should never last.
Empty promisses are gone too,
And I now know that I can pull through.

True Love indeed

To Love someone with all your hear is one thing
To love someone with all you have is another thing
To love some with all you could be is so sweat
But to Love each other to the point you can't live
without one another it is true love indeed.

Two Badges For Courage

Millions of people about the world gazed at their televisions mesmerized,

As Nik Wallenda crossed the Grand Canyon with consummate skill as advertised!

People held their collective breaths as he performed this outstanding feat!

It was a dream he had since boyhood and he wouldn't countenance defeat!

It took GREAT COURAGE to take the walk as about him fearful winds swirled.

It took GREATER COURAGE to express his faith in God before the entire world!

Rising Again

Rising again, furnished with a bright dream
That led me to a noble path, graced with loving memories

So, i'm moving away from moment of despair
Looking to continue loving my purpose in life

For I refused to give up my treasured dream
Find meaning from every trial, with hope in my pocket

So, I had faith to keep going on, rising again and again-
-And planting seeds of hope with devoted heart

Making me a sailor with triumphant dream
Ready to move on, withstand other storms

While listening to melodies from deep waters
Charming my spirit, and making me embrace new sense of being

So, I keep rising, and rising again, love waiting on my new path
To carry me through a fulfilling journey

For I always believed, happines is forever in the midst of everything
Anytime, everywhere, it will always come to free me

I WILL GAMBLE

If I am to be, I must become.
This is because I am strong.

If my life is meaningless, why do I strive for more?
The highs and lows of life keep me focus.

If I am discontent, I must define eradication.
The fight against social injustice removes this procrastination.

If when it rain it pours, I must assure I am secure.
The way to riches, I must discover.

If frustration is visible, femininity forms.
The world tries to suppress a real woman.

If a beautiful person is said to be, why is this negative?
The quality or nature of me brings a green-eyed monster looming.

If it is time for my swan song, I am not singing.
You old in mind before you are in body.

If is a big word,
I will gamble.

Tomorrow

What will tomorrow bring
current crises must be a dream.

ISIS gaining desert steam
  like a locomotive they seem.

Putin's Russia returning COLD
last Cold War not that old.

Whole town of Ferguson up in smoke
illegal shooting for an ounce of dope and
  militarized police even destroying hope.

Fallen Angels and GOD'S Promise
End of Time events now upon us.

So, what will tomorrow bring
  current crises got us dreaming.

Prophesied, a war against Satan's Allies
defeated by a shout from the skies.

Some say it is Biblical, and must come
an in-bound missile, or an Angel's hum,
or maybe that asteroid they could avoid
but by HIS Word, our Savior, and Lord.

Voices of Liberty sought a better destiny
so shall by HIS Power the faithful to be.

Many refused to admit there was a climate change
now our planet's system permanently rearranged.

So, what will tomorrow bring
current crises must be a dream.

These crises of 2014 - 2019
might not be what they seem.

THE BIRTH OF DEMOCRACY

1.
Once upon a very long time in the eleventh century B.C.
There was a king in, Athens, who ruled both land and sea

2.
To all was known as king Codrus*, a mighty warrior was he
His enemies were much afraid in his kingdom once to be

3.
Yet, the Spartans** war declared and marched into Codrus’s land
Wishing all Athens to burn down, nothing vertical to stand

4.
Codrus, saw the Spartans coming and his army he prepared
To defend the holiest ground thus his city to be spared

5.
First he sent to ask the oracle of God Apollo at Delphi***
To reveal to the king, Codrus, who the winner would be

6.
God at once the answer gave: “The victor of war would be
The city of which the King is slain" that’s the way to be free

7.
Codrus, was much determined his beloved Athens, he to save
Thus his kingly clothes took off, went the enemy to brave

8.
To Spartans the oracle was known, to their soldiers gave orders
No one to hurt king Codrus, else they had to leave the borders

9.
Codrus, as a peasant soon was dressed, ax in hand was he holding
As he approached the Spartans’ camp, his fury was fast unfolding

10
Spartans, him, didn’t recognize and with a sword they cut him down
But then saw that the king was he, wrapped inside that filthy gown

11.
Instantly their camp the Spartans broke and left that same day
To return to Sparta their city and found themselves at bay

12.
The Athenians then decided, by no means, a new King them to find
For none would love his land As Codrus did, with all his heart and mind

13.
This the way democracy**** was born, some thirty-one centuries ago
When Athenians, the King’s powers passed to people, by only a single law

*Codrus (in Greek, Kodros) was the last of the semi-mythical Kings of Athens that ruled between 1089-1068 B.C. He is considered the finest example of patriotism and self-sacrifice. This is his story!
**The most powerful states in ancient Greece was Sparta and Athens..
During the time of the Spartan invasion of Athens territory in 1068 B.C. the Spartans consulted the Delphic Oracle, who prophesied that their invasion would succeed as long as the king of Athens was not harmed.
***At Delphi was the temple of Apollo, son of Zeus! One of Apollo’s duties was
To reveal to humans his father’s Will. The Greeks of old were doing nothing
unless they were consulting Apollo who was the prophet par excellence. Once
Apollo was giving his reply the Greeks obeyed it to the letter!
****Democracy is the combination of two words: Demos and Cratos . Demos means the People and Cratos means Power so Democracy means Power to the People.

Humble for my own sake

I do not turn the other cheek,
so you can boast in my defeat,
I do not love my enemies
with but a smile, but earnestly,
I humble my once proud heart
in hopes to reach maturity.
Ive had my share of battles fought,
and scars to show for lesson taught
still no reason conceit
will ever I pursue or seek.

I do bless when others curse
to show my weakness with remorse
but I becomes a broken horse.
Following my master's righteous course.
I find no joy in any pain
but I pursue knowledge to gain
an ever steadfast path in life
not dictated by my strife,
so I do none of these for you
but for my certain peace of mind
that when I'm struck down by another
my heart still knows how to be kind.

Confessions of a souper

The day before yesterday was laced with dismay in every possible way,
Yesterday was better but has into the backdrop faded away.

But today is another day,
New stuff to think, do and say.

Today I will brave the world all alone,
And enjoy my freedom full blown.

I will live life with zest,
Try to do things, never second best.

I will live to be sensitive,
Towards others be more receptive.

I will live to be forgiving,
Be more tolerant and caring.

I will speak to all who walk my path,
Make peace with all and unnecessarily not unleash quaint wrath.

I will correct all my wrongs,
And tell this to all by making them my songs.

I will proudly write notes about the new me,
And publish and upload them for all to see.

I will work to be creative,
And learn to open my mind’s eye and not be obstructive.

I will always proudly wear my own neoteric attitude,
To succeed, master the skill of gratitude.

The day before yesterday was laced with dismay in every possible way,
Yesterday was better but has into the backdrop faded away.

And today is the right day,
To commence these fresh new things that I write and say

Nightwaves

Reflections of the day traverse
the thought patterns that could be worse.

A sleep that carries strange new dreams
or no sleep now's fated it seems.

Yet in the silent chill of night
you just may find some wise insight.

Of broken paths and reckless wants
the righteous one is that which haunts.

It takes away the need to feel
exacting pain which does reveal.

The message written on the wind
the only one you can rescind.

And when your destiny is clear
stand up erect and show no fear.

Go soft into the early light
and live this day with all your might.

Another Everest

Icy flowers and the old door...
My school with one floor,
27 steps of stairway, eroded,
About 4 times daily loaded,
Forty years with the snowman`s rhymes,
On the top of the world, how many times
He separated the day from the night,
His dewy good smile breathing the light?

In Need

Living just to die is just too sad,
let us fight for the good and keep at bay all the bad.

Alone you are not, for friends you have my dear,
fighting together, right past and through the fear.

Time changes, indeed it does so,
so we must change with it and keep up the go.

Do not stand still, do not wait for a second,
time changes all and we are all at its beckon.

So fear not the marching on of time,
for you have a friend to be there at the drop of a dime.

You'll Do

I realized long ago,
There are no huge plans for me
There will be no fanfare as I pass through
My meat pie destiny.
There are no Nobel Prizes,
To proclaim my importance by,
No Academy Awards,
No private jet from which I fly.
The world did not get curious
Nor ponder what I would become
Turns out I'm just a plain Jane girl
With a slightly enlarged bum.
And there you are my husband,
With equally echoed dreams,
Reverberating behind you,
With all you could have been.
There are no sun filled yacht trips,
Through the Caribbean sea,
No cocktails in the parlour,
For the likes of you and me.
We haven't burnt our bridges,
For they were never put there at the start,
So it looks like we'll be bored to death,
Until the day we part.
Romance is really not my thing
Just between me and you,
But it's with a heartfelt up and down
That I look at ya and think 'You'll do'

What I LOVE

my son was born with a disconnected mind
he catches on if you give him time

i love that he carries on a normal life
i hate that he will never have a wife

he loves animals and building things
i hate to tell him that he can not sing : )

his appetite so big and around the clock
you will find him from time to time with only the one sock

he gets so excited about just the little things
oh what joy he brings

he talks to everyone that passes through
why some people are mean i have no clue

i ask God to please keep him near if i am called home before him
he never liked just being called 'jim'

his sisters and brothers treat him well and give him no slack
...and his love for them does not lack

my dear son mommy loves you so
you are special in my heart i want you to know

and if I could tell the world to stop treating as if you have a disease
this would make mommy so very pleased

Immortal Spirit

Competition to me is a waste of time,
the clock and the calendar commit no crime.
Look into my eyes, I am the sparkling sun
looming up above to share the fluid of fun.
We are immortal spirits, immortal spirits.

Stand and stare, look here I am the moon,
the twilight bow; I am thy celestial boon.
Hear the splatter my dear, I am the rain.
Pouring down to drain the heat of your pain.
We are immortal spirits, immortal spirits.

I am the star swirling in swift brightness,
I shine the light for the one who lives in darkness;
And even if they come to pull me down,
A thousand more will take the courteous crown.
We are immortal spirits, immortal spirits.

Speak the truth; I will not bow to thraldom,
I sing aloud of the ancestors’ wisdom,
And even if they try to put me out
A million more will clear their doubt.
We are immortal spirits, immortal spirits.

The Battle

Here we go men! Into the valiant fight!
Where men become men and cowards flee our sight!

Iron will clang and feet will race;
As bullets are thrown at a frightening pace!

Men will be thrown and cries will be heard –
As we fly our way through the smoke like a bird.

But in the end we shall acquire our victory;
And together we’ll go down in the great epic of history!

White-Knuckled Courage

I've reached the other side you know.
Daily my cheeks are aglow.

White-knuckled courage is my pride.
I paid my dues and took the ride.

The fog has lifted from my heart.
I've been given a brand new start.

I fought my demons-took them down.
A smile's replaced that lowly frown.

When times are rough and hope is lost
I'll not forget what doom has cost.

White-knuckled courage is my pride.
Brought me through to the other side.

The pale white moon glows on this earth.
Finally I'm happy about my birth.

Laughter and love shall follow me.
I'm blessed and fortunate as can be!

Sibling Rivalry: Hitting

Sibling Rivalry: Hitting
     By Dane Smith-Johnsen

Time after time my brother hit me.
Rather than fight, I would quickly flee.
Too many days, I ran into mom.
Sometimes she'd explode just like a bomb!

One day she looked me straight in the eye.
You must fight back. You must at least try.
Don't come crying, if you haven't hit back.
I will spank you. You'll feel the switch crack.

How I could do it, I did not know.
Smack my brother so courage would grow?
For several days, he left me alone.
Then, it happened, a hit then a moan.

Down on the ground, he was in a flash.
I, on his chest, his face I did bash.
Over and over my fist hit face.
One last slug and to mom I did race.

Right behind me, steadily crying.
To hear him, you'd think he was dying.
She started to scold; I did remind.
You said, “Hit him… “ Or trouble was mine.

That was the day I stood for myself.
And put some fear to rest on a shelf.
The day I learned, through my brother's moan.
Thanks goes to Mom, my courage had grown.

Confidence

Every day I will excel,
Where I end up,
Only time will tell,
I hope to succeed in life’s hardest times,
And keep my problems inside these rhymes,
Every missed moment is the shutting of a door,
Luckily I know that will open plenty more,
The chances I’ve gotten in the past,
They don’t tend to stay,
They don’t tend to last,
The future ahead can be very bright,
So much of course I may lose my sight,
But only of course if I stare too long,
I need to take action,
I can’t go about it wrong,
The goal is to focus on the task at hand,
My attitude will not turn bad,
I will take a stand…

War-Born Lullaby

I hear a mother softly cry
As she sings a war-born lullaby.

The song of a father who went away,
To give freedom one more day.

He promised that he would return,
Return from watching evil burn.

It was a promise he could not keep,
As now he sleeps an eternal sleep.

He gave his life so his child could see,
A land of freedom and liberty.

His body now rests beneath green grass,
His medals and picture behind clear glass.

His soul, however, is not gone.
His ideas and dreams are carried on.

She sings the song of war’s high cost.
She sings the song of freedom not lost.

She sings of a father’s sacrifice,
For his country and family he gave his life.

Strife taught me well

How I fought to justify myself,
my actions and my words
trying to prove that I had reason
to seek vengeance for my hurt.
I felt owed for what was taken,
I felt wronged, broken, forsaken
I seemed forgotten in the course of life
a castaway in slow decay
no certain trail, no destination
going wherever,coming what may.

My battles only wearied me,
scarred my bruised and battered bones,
like victim and offender divided
the war within the enemy

I had to learn to let down my gaurd
to fight the fear that froze my heart,
not to bury myself holding on
to everything that did me me wrong.
To uncover forgiveness and leave behind,
to take not what I would not give,
and everyday to keep in mind
our struggles teach us how to live. .

Learning Country

My sister said, "Let's go dancing.""Not a chance."
"I don't know how. I don't know how to dance."

"They give beginner's lessons at The Yellow Rose.”
"They'll have a live band to keep you on your toes."

I gave in to her begging and gathered up my spunk.
Those at the Rose were probably already drunk.

So I said, "What the heck; how hard's it gonna be?
Those guys are too busy to watch the likes of me."

In most of my endeavors, it's always been my fate,
there's some hidden truth that I didn't anticipate.

Every song had a different dance, no two were the same.
I stood with eyes popping, thinking this was insane.

"What kind of style is this?" I muttered, watching the dancing.
They were clapping and yelling,, twirling and prancing;

with thumbs hooked in pockets and fancy boots on their feet,
they shuffled, hitched and swayed to a crazy country beat.

Not dancing with one another, they formed a perfect line,
turning and bumping hips and stomping in double time.

They even did a Cha Cha,, a Charleston step or two,
Cheater's Waltz and Black Velvet, twining through.

Sister said, "Come on, let's go!" Well, it's do or die,
maybe I'll flop, maybe not. I'll never know, unless I try.

I wound up teaching beginners at West Side Senior Center,
and at local "Silver Games," became a gold medal winner!

I performed with the gang at nearby nursing homes,
in matching western costumes and sequins in our combs.

Adversity

I feel so tired, so wasted, so tough;
But what I’m doing is good for me, although it can be rough.

Its times like these when morale collapses,
And emotion flows out from tucked away stashes.

I feel so beaten, so lonesome, so loved;
My soul is near complete, but I am missing one dove.

For a volley of birds is what keeps me on high,
And with missing just one, I will sink from the sky.

To pull myself back up to the clouds however,
I must give up more energy, and expel more than ever.

For with great courage comes great reward,
Now I shall rise from my knee and look up to the lord.

The Wayward Pilgrim

Wayward pilgrims scattered and lost
Frightened beings, low on rations, slowed by frost

Searching for the holy land they wandered astray
Despite prayers for help, they can't but doubt that they'll see another day

They left with so much zeal and hope, so much faith
They felt passion and mirth, they were convinced the lord would keep them safe

They no longer know where they are and the path to travel
Their spirits are tested, their sanity slowly begins to unravel

Some are lost to the thought that God is everything, nothing else exists
Others give in to base survival instincts as it becomes harder to resist

Crisis of the faithful, the beautiful and the damned
It's the answer to challenge that truly reveals every woman and man

Let my antenatal ignorance yield thrall-
Underneath this soil with loam so fertile
(No inanimate rock may remain sterile)
Seeds let me sow; toil mutely endure...
Insipid morn to rupture with new verdure!

**Masava is pun for Mashava; meaning soil in Shangaan.

Be

As I sit quietly on my bed,
The voices still swirl in my head,
What they are saying,
Keeps replaying,
No matter how hard I try,
 They just wont die,
My destiny is calling,
Time out, no more over hauling,
My ancestors are telling me,
Go forward and Be!

Working in the Dark

I feel like I've dug a hole so deep it's better to distract myself from the fact that
I'm dwelling in it
I create while I live underground, buried but not dead. I slowly dig tunnels,
looking for a way out, I won't quit

I contract from fear too often and I'm starting to understand why. I'm afraid of
failure and success, which freezes me in limbo
I expand in short moments of grandeur, not long enough to take a stand but
long enough to reassure that I should not go

I've learned that passion is worth fighting for, beneath the crushing weight, the
misguided hate, I know I have the potential to be great
I've learned that life is worth dying for, as I stagger through the darkness, finding
my way; I must help myself and elevate

Forgone conclusions and new beginnings

Keep inventing, strive for more
Create past the point of boredom, it's all from the core

The great wall, a human invention, can be seen from space
An ancient civilization made that impact, why stop striving for the stars if that's the case?

A message to the mad, a message to the sane
We must work together to continue, that much is plain

Wonder why? Wonder Why not?
Stay in that place, stay there to rot

Indecision claims too many lives
Indecision nullifies what it means to be alive

Think about how to grow
Think about the right way to go

Act upon it before it becomes surreal
Trust your heart, truly listen to how you feel

MAUNDY THURSDAY

Maundy Thursday, we know clearly,
The Christ did say: "Remember me..."

The ritual tale of the Master,
Washed feet availed, fond kiss rendered.

How humble then, that sacred act
Of loving grand in precious pact.

The supper room where The Christ held
A meal to groom those love would weld.

All twelve round a Master bold;
Shared bread to ground pain's sure threshold.

That deep dark night when light and dark
Arose to fight in clashing sparks.

That certain stay of heaven's sway
Upon the play of man's sure say.

That fateful time for love's sure say
To conquer chimes for Eden's pay.

The Master speaks with loving voice,
That love must peak in gracious choice.

They gather round, these edgy men;
Fear spreads the ground in gloomy span.

The Christ knows well how things will end;
Discerns and dwells on this frail band.

Changed bread and wine with miracle
To life divine for the table.

This mystery we cannot see;
Faith and hope see eternally.

Fear floods the room at supper spread;
In certain gloom, this band afraid.

Knowing the way, The Christ gestures
That all dismay will bring closure.

The path is set, the way is shown;
All pain is met with love well-known.

No need to run, no need to hide;
Just brave each sun with love's joy ride.

Yeshua, The Christ prayed for mankind:
"May love your prize fill heart and mind."

"A new command I give to you:
As I have done, Love facts from you."

Supper over, the garden tryst;
Christ at prayer, sleepers amiss.

Bloody sweat ooze from troubled Christ;
As three men snooze in sleepy splice.

Then traitor comes with cohort strong;
Fatal kiss sums Christ in the throng.

How vain the ways of power then:
Judas betrays the Son of Man.

The cause sets loose the final act;
A hangman's noose for condemned fact.

False trial to show a flawed mindset;
To kill love's glow in a set trap.

Perjury knows vain power lust;
A tainted show that condemns trust.

So history records the scam
Of misery in hostile camp.

Justice is blind, faith is tested;
Love now aligns firm soul jestered.

That old empire where Romans ruled,
Collapsed in fire with crazy fools.

Yet here this day, we sense the same
Old antics play in satire's name.

Traitors, we each betray the truth;
Seek to scratch itch with cynic proof.

With solemn hearts, we chant mantras;
Mimic old parts, new agendas!

The world had changed with changing times;
Yet evil range sparks cause for rhymes!

So on and on, we seem to stage
Here and beyond, hurl devious rage.

Storms

Fascination of lightening and thunder,
His irresistible thoughts to my mind plunder,

Strong winds uproot and rains precipitate,
To strength of my heart can never equate,

Tornadoes engulf and whirlwinds make swirl,
As storm bound ship in middle of sea I lay still,

A violent quake shakes the earth so well,
I am forced to come out of my bodily dwell,

And as the oceans with the waters swell,
Restless mind vivid thoughts can put me to hell,

Like gigantic sea waves taken by storm ,
I rise and fall on my own horn !

NOBODY

Silly folly
Looking jolly

Sparkling eyes tell
A blinding spell

A lovely sight
In the clear light

Nobody knows
Your hidden glow

I see clearly
Your bright beauty

Nobody cares
If you stand there

I sense profound
Your haloed grounds

Nobody sees
Your sure beauty

I listen now
Feel sacred now

Nobody minds
This precious find

I feel you here
Find form that cheers

Oh silly me
My fantasy

Years ago I
Came to know why

Age has come round
These ancient grounds

Soon sighs and I
Will ply the skies

I Soon Became

I Soon Became

Had been by myself with me and mind
Subject for next poem was trying to find;
Which will be my next venture to take?
Always have too start out when wide awake.

Select words and with each other compare
Might be difficult and not getting anywhere
Suddenly words started to drop out of the sky;
Why, of course, on gracious God I should rely.

With temptation trembled and back it fought
And from that moment started praying a lot
Not only did I end up with fortune and fame
A pleasant poet laureate I soon became.

How Loud Can a Curtain Call

How Loud Can a Curtain Call

Why do some people prefer to discourage
When what they should do is encourage
Others to write poems and subjects to choose.
Like one which was about a perfect excuse.

I wrote a poem and became the laughing stock
After everyone ended up in a state of shock
Either it was in Oregon or perhaps Washington
Where the actual emphatic story had begun.

We here are called an incredible West coaster
Left behind on east one each bragger and boaster
While we feast on fashion here in the West
And antics are known for pulling the best.

Everyone on West Coast seems to panic
When we will end up doing a frantic antic
And after we see your faces all aglow
We turn it into a great, terrific TV show.

This is our dream always expressed precisely
For part in play we had done so nicely
There is only one way out and an escape
Jump under before they pull curtain and drape.

How about: It was certainly curtains for your show.

Sons And Daughters Of Zion

Copyright © 2014
12.13,2014

These sons and daughters of Zion
bears the songs and trails of triumph.

Before the coffins are shipped
  and their bags are zipped.

These sons and daughters of Zion
bears the songs and trails of triumph.

So, let not their Nation regret
  for their blood and sweat.

These sons and daughters of Zion
bears the songs and trails of triumph.

But, represent them with pride
not racism as most try to hide.

These sons and daughters of Zion
bears the songs and trails of triumph.

So, please receive them with cheer
it's only their enemies you fear.

These sons and daughters of Zion
bears the songs and trails of triumph.

America, America, GOD gave this land to thee
purge thyself from what we all now see
for these sons and daughters of Zion
who bears the songs and trails of triumph.
