December Magic

December Magic
Waltzing with the wind, in crocheted gowns of white lace… flurries of snowflakes sway to sweet divine music... that only angels can hear.

ivory trees

dressed by winter's hand
glistening within sunlight
trees of ivory
swaying branches in the wind
whispers of white cascade down

Blizzard

High winds churl, howling
calling forth their minions
open wide the gates
the battle will be long, fierce!
through the mountains, hills and vales

First Frost

Feathered friends flee frost
as first flurries flip and flop.
Floating, flying flock
of fair geese transform fading
fall days in fixed formation.

Cold Winter Is Here

 Cold winter is here

 Radiant snow covered ground

 Desiccated air

 Candy cane fragrant aroma

 Winter bringing out the best

HOUSEBOUND

H0USEBOUND

my god! i‘m housebound
another sip of coffee
outside? Imagine
it’s fourteen below zero
I’m tiptoeing through the snow

squirrels are watching me
birds with feathers all fluffed out
barefooted i sink,
touch feet on the icy ground
god no! rather be housebound

Early Winter Snow 2

TANKA (American Style)

white powdery flakes
flutter down like fairy wings
early winter snow
softer than a feather's touch
kiss the grass then fade away

(Japanese Style)

downy snowflakes
feathery touches
trace my eyelids brush my lips
fairy kisses on my hair
winter delight

Note: Rules require no punctuation, no title. I am a beginner in writing Haiku and/or Tanka in the Japanese style.

The Snow is Gone

 The sun rises up
and melts the favored snow sheets
 children's cries burst out
 wishing it wouldn't leave yet
but soon it will come once more

On the Edge of a Dream

scent of virgin snow
bathing the night in silence
     my daughter’s footsteps
          echoing on dream’s frayed edge
a yearning heart constricting

I dedicate this to my daughter who is working and living in the UK. Snow scenes always remind me of her and I long to see and hold her again.

Tanka of Solitude

Alienation --
Alpine permafrost of an
Emergent expanse.
Crisp solitude, winter's friend,
Blankets the arctic spirit.

Antagonistic,
The lichen creeps through the cracks
Of a barren world.
The gloom of obscurity
Clutches with icy disdain.

The psyche shivers,
Stranded in endless twilight.
A dormant wasteland,
An unrelenting blizzard,
The frigid embrace of night.

Snowballs

I dont know about this poem but here it is:

When snow falls softly
You can make some cold snowballs
Try making some snowballs
Snowballs can be delicate
Sometimes they can be quite cold.

Please post with ideas to fix it..

Winter tanka

Snow falling slowly
Covering the earth in white
Snowflakes thus whirling
Gracefully encouraging
Veiling and dancing in light

Winter

                          Heavenly snowfall,

                  after dark harsh hiemal night,

                   breaths to warmth embrace,

                      youthful lovers led astray,

as cold winter blizzards chill !

Chilled Leaves

My bones are exposed

As winds undress the texture

Clinging to wool skin

I find no haven at morn,

When fall buries my ribs deep

in the chilly morn

. . . there is a chirping in the leafless frozen woods I hold out my hand and cold icy feathers land there is both a fear and awe ____________________ March 18, 2015 Tanka For the contest, Tanka 2, sponsor, Andrea Dietrich 6th Place
