She Had Wings

A tribute to a wonderful friend who was taken from us by cancer.

She Had Wings
 11-24-07
Dave Stinnett

SHE HAD WINGS, SHE COULD LIFT US UP
WHEN OUR WORLD SEEMED TOO HEAVY
WINGS OF LOVE, ALWAYS OPEN WIDE
TO SOOTHE A WOUNDED SOUL

THOUGH SORROW FILLS OUR HEARTS, REJOICE THAT
GOD HAS FILLED HIS PROMISE
AND ANGELS HAVE A ROOM NEXT TO HIS THRONE
YOU SEE, SHE WAS NEVER OURS TO CALL OUR OWN

SHE HAD WINGS, AND NOW SHE’S FLYING HOME

A GIFT TO THEE

My belly of thoughts clings to my backbone
Never hungry, always starving of poetry
Which can not exactly capture your spotlessness
Mama learned me this knowledge of nature:
A full stomach of ideas suffocates the mind of reasons
And hypocritical bellies are full of garbage ideologies
Since them, couldn't set my vision on hypocritical niceties
'Cos the feast of my soul is set on your poetic face of grace
Capturing poetic elegance in your anatomy on the cross
From your delicate hot bruised features
The geometrical contours of your thorn crowned head
Down to the neat flow of double curve network of blood
Concave and convex, across each ripe cheek
Flowing down into a pool at the foot of Golgotha
Scholars may wear poetic finery to capture your imagery
Though learned, am not versed in the cult of literature
As for me, I petition my soul to impress you most
When I shade clothing of poetic religio-fanatical complexity
And paint your elegance without haste or delay
With the brush of my artistic nagging thoughts
As sweet as the spray of frankincense on your tender skin
I have fallen in love with your words like art
And I have nothing else to offer save these silly words
Which I know is not good enough for a Heavenly Prince
'Cos I thought of you as an Immortal Prince come to life
And myself as a lousy, clumsy mortal being
Unaccountably granted the gift of your notice
Am determined to woo you with all my soul's poetry
And determined to wash my soul with thy tidal waves of devotion
And as I again have nothing else worthwhile to offer
I make a gift to thee of my Zaccheaus heart

judas's justification

amongst every twelve
there shall a Judas exist,
Judas's nature, as embedded in the christian creed,
of betrayal and the feat of greed,
and on thirty pieces of silver insist,
for the head of the savior to shelve.

"Judas, do what you have to do"
Christ did charge, at the upper
chamber, after the last supper,
hour to hour,in the council corner
a transaction to save humanity,
an intertwining between vanity and eternity.

what is Judas's position?
a betrayer or the gateway to salvation?
if the silver hadn't clattered,
would the salvation have pattered?

a justification for Judas
for to Calvary, his bid took Christ,
and for each stripe
our sicknesses did wipe,
sympathy for Judas
hanging on the rope, with much grotesque,
eyes popping in a sad check
"do Christians recognize the part i did play?"

O Muslim

Muslim who influenced by westernize,
Lost name and Identity, drowned in Occidentalize,
Got accuse of terror and blame of activist,
Oh the Muslim, thou lost thy illuminant,

Thou turn away face from lessons of Quran,
Ever thou remembered the moral of surah Aal-e-Imran,
Betrayed thy self through curse deed,
The Almighty bondman what’s thee need,

Lead thou self toward astray,
Turned attention to infidel way,
Forgotten the worry of last abode,
Repent thy sins by viewing this ode,

Eager thyself of virtue, thirst of hay,
Inertial thought turns thou rough and clay,
Vivify thy self, You the Muslim and still alive,
Strong enough as the pillar of five,
Worldly life is not more than amusement and joy,
Be prepare for hereafter, as you have to die.
