Words of a Ghost

When did I die for you? When was the moment I ceased to exist Becoming no more than a shadowy memory Another conquest amongst so many others Another notch on your belt and a heart thrust away Shattered into kaleidoscope fragments What was it that turned me into a ghost? A phantom that haunts you in the glittering night Gazing at you with mournful eyes Like the wave-pounded pebbles of the ocean floor What makes you impervious to my love? To me it feels so strong A torrent I can’t hold back It overflows – gushing scarlet – from every pore From my eyes and lips It pulsates around me in a shimmering crimson halo And yet you fail to see it Your eyes meet mine but look right through Scything through my flesh and bone like a bolt of lightning Leaving me weak-kneed and trembling Yet not even quickening your pulse It beggars belief how simply you thrust me aside As if I were a pair of jeans that no longer fit Or a shoe with the broken sole flapping loosely in the wind And now I am dead to you A mere wraith standing on the balcony Watching you with troubled eyes Faded - pearly and translucent in the wake of your ravages I am truly dead to you now You dance on my grave You spit on my crucifix But my immolating love for you burns on Undying…perpetual… Immortal
