Words

The greatest gift of god above Is sewn with sonant strands of love That takes a half and makes a whole, Whose kingdom lies within a soul. No heralds cry or trumpets blare Are grander than the stir of air Moved by whispered words of love The greatest gift of god above. *God's two greatest gifts to mankind - speech and the opposable thumb. While the thumb is lovely for opening jars it is speech that enables love.

Thank you so much for the welcome and the kind words. I've only had time to read a few of your poems so far but particularly enjoyed "Skeletons". Much too chew on. A quick question of advice; is it ever appropriate to add commentary after the poem to supply context? My poem "My mothers cat" was inspired by the D. H. Lawrence short story "The Rocking Horse Winner" whose main character describes his relationship with his mother as "when her children were present she felt the center of her heart go hard". Should I provide context? Thanks again!
