Wonder
He always wonders why she
doesn't want to leave the old house,
its floor filled with mosses,
and the walls coated with vines.
"I always have to sugar-coat my replies
to our friends out there, if they ask
how we live," he says.
She smells her wine gently round her nose,
and smiles. "This house is like this wine,
my love," she says. "It is filled with magic
each day, if you only stop and see".
He is not the countryside type. He hates
the traffic stop signs and queues. Motion
is the motto he lives by. Motion is the reason
why he can't see the photographs
of past occupants, fairies,
on the wall,
or see his wife getting younger each day....
