Without Words
If I couldn’t speak, what would be the purpose of breathing,
For then I could not stop you, as you were leaving.
No words of love would I utter to make you stay,
Only silent tears as I am forced to watch you walk away.
There would be no reason for me to belong
To try and persuade you that both of us were wrong.
To make you see sense when there is truly none
To plead for you to stay, before you had gone.
Even now as I speak, my words get lost
And knowing myself I cannot bear the thought
Of losing you to something which should have stayed unspoken
For now a true friendship, through a thoughtless act, is broken.
Without words I am not complete
Without words I admit defeat
Trying hard to explain what I need to say to you
But how can you answer when what you feel isn’t true.
