Winter Dream
Like wolf winter howls with fury
With the wind and snow at front door
Ice grips not only river and lakes
But hearts and souls
Icicles hang from every roof
Snowstorm grows dense
But somehow in this uncertain time
When dark hand could easily rise
And upon the world cast its shadow
Something else shines like a beacon of hope
This is time of birth of a God
And time when bounds of family love grow strong
Time when children wish upon a star
Star with ocean of fire that warms the spirit
Love that melts the ice
And frees hearts and souls
Time when presents are given
And St. Nicolas has many faces
Today we remember him with a hat like elf
But long time ago
He wore a hood
This for snowstorm more practical would be
And not only did he have presents in a bag
And long pole with which to walk
In many folds of his robe
Hidden was a wand of lapis lazuli
This was allowed him to number the abstract
And gift of this magic he could bestow
