Wine-O

Wine –O Pete and Peggy They nursed their bottles Like a mom nurses her newborn Magic was inside their bottles of wine A drink or two washed away their storms Their lovers were, Ripple, Thunderbird and other Bum wines that were picked from a vine Pete and Peggy were drinking friends Not a “he or she is mine” They’d sit on the bus stop bench With their wines in a paper bag They’d take a sip Cherishing every taste they had They’d twist their bottle caps slowly and precise And it always opened so they never twisted their caps twice The liquor store was on the corner And they went in and out that liquor store door At least three times a day “Hey Pete and Peggy where are you two going” To the store is the only thing they’d say One day on the bus bench Peggy was sitting by her self Someone asked her “Where’s Pete?” She answered “He found someone else Pete came around the corner looking tired and beat When Peggy saw him She jumped to her feet Pete handed her a bottle and she said “O Pete, O Pete” They embraced, and that day they shared something That was really sweet

You describe your experience perfectly and it takes shape in my mind’s eye. You imagery is top notch and brings life to the character’s profile. A very human touch to this poem with an easily understandable story. Emile. #7

This is so intimate and shows the human side of addiction. Addiction is an illness not a weakness and all addicts have my sincerest sympathies, I wish I could do more to help them. Kind regards, Ian
