Why Are We Moved To Write Poetry

Why are we moved to write poetry To empty our souls for all to see To find solace in sharing our pain So that we can find peace once again? To inspire with words of hope and care To assure our friends, we’re always there When you need a shoulder to cry on With words of love, the pain is gone. A personal tale with words that rhyme Their special meaning, makes spirits climb To live our lives through paper and pen Some look forward, some way back when… We shared ourselves, we opened our soul With poetry, we made our lives whole!

I ask this in my head frequently and have since a preteen. Where comes this urge? Why is it so? I hope to know when I make my transition. You are more sure than I, your poem is confident of the gifts your poetry brings and I applaud that. A most enjoyable, contemplative and resonating write, Betty ... CayCay

I wrote my first poem in Nov 2013 when my hubby was undergoing cancer surgery - writing poetry become my lifeline helping me through the most traumatic period of my life. I now adore writing and have learned so so much since joining soup and met some wonderful people during my short poetic journey:-) hugs Jan xx

Thanks Jan, I too am new to poetry. I wrote my first poem in May 2015 and was completely taken with it. I have learned so much and made so many friends both here and on a few other sites. It has opened up my world and brought me so much understanding of others. Thank you so much for your comments dear friend. Betty
