Where We Hide

Were that another was to blame for this, but polished glass reveals the truth to me: Nobody deceived my heart with a phantom kiss; I, myself, have ruined my destiny. For lo! She was everything, and yet I was so blind. I watched but could not see her brave attempt, to reveal herself to me as more than I could find. Now I stride in shadows, awash in self-contempt. How strange to forget that even as one quests, for the company of another deep inside ... It might well be that as one rests, another seeks the fortress where they hide. 8 January 2017
