Welcome Home Franey Or I Will Never See You Again

She came in a fancy car on the dirt track lane where there have been many donkey races, marble competitions and a lot more exciting games. It has been fourteen years since we’ve seen Franey, we sure didn’t know what to expect. Ma was always sad because Franey wasn’t there but she would put on a brave face for Jessie-ray, pa and me and when we weren’t around she would cry and that troubled me. Franey was the kind of girl who wanted to grow up real fast. By the time she was eighteen she ran as fast as she could from Jamaica to the land of opportunity where she lived. She use to write to us and promise to come visit but those were just empty promises for a lonely soul. Finally that visit came, too bad it had to be fourteen years, and too bad Papa had to die first. I for one will never forgive her because his dying wish was to see her. She was her favorite and when she left he tried to find her in me but he couldn’t. She stepped from the car and walked up our lane Ma and Jessie-ray ran to meet her, she hugged and kissed them. Then she walked up to the porch “Hi Mary-Jane you going to sit there or are you going to welcome me.” I forced myself to answer her “hi Franey” I watched as she walked into the room. It pained my heart to see Ma and Jessie-ray falling for her sad display of grief. I peeped through the window and saw them I couldn’t stand it so I ran to my hiding spot at the lake just to avoid her. In the dusk of evening I returned home only to see my Ma crying, I realized that the beautiful Franey had left because she couldn’t handle the lost of Papa but I knew better. Franey is a runner everybody knew it but they were just too scared to admit it lucky for me I am not afraid. It looks as if she came with the wind and left with it. It’s not welcome home Franey it’s I’ll never see you again.
