Congratulations, Jan on your win in Charlotte's contest, " Another Bite At The Cherry ". It 's sad to see a graveyard with so many crosses, it induces deep sorrow. Your poem is a great tribute to the veterans who fought for our country and our freedom. Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones. Hugs, Andrew.

Thanks Michael I never know if I have written a real haiku - I have had 2 others published by prolific press - they accepted this poem under the '3 line poetry' banner - I am delighted it was placed in Charlotte's contest she is one of my favourite sponsors for her unbiased judging style:-) hugs Jan xx

Made me think of something. Your selection of the verse to use was great. Old war poetry can be so beautiful. Miss British, have you ever hear Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address? It's not a poem, but it might as well be. HE was a deeply funny and deeply wise man. AMerica wouldn't be here today without him.

Without them, where would we all be. It scares me to think what the world would have been like. I've written some similar poems Jan - 'White Marble Angels' - 'White Marble at Attention' - Marble in Columns on Green - if you find time, I'd love you to read them - hugs always//James xxxx

Says it all, Jan. The last line is perfect. The color of poppies is the same as the blood that was shed by all of those buried there. Your haiku really captures it. Goodluck for the contest! hugs!
