We Are Not As Poor As Some People Say

We are not as poor as some people say Our land is our source of food and our home We work on our land almost every day Selling coffee beans is our main income In remote lands, where tourists find welcome An old aid post is sixty miles away Our land is our source of food and our home Since there are no roads to town from our home We carry coffee bags most of the way Selling coffee beans is our main income We don’t just wait for services to come While struggling to survive another day Our land is our source of food and our home Enjoy some coffee when your tour is done That cup or two of brew gives our days pay Selling coffee beans is our main income We own our land and work it, unlike some We are not as poor as some people say Our land is our source of food and our home Selling coffee beans is our main income. *Life in a developing country has many challenges. One of these is getting the right kind of development!

It's much more commendable to start your way up from the lowest of the low... makes you appreciate the little things much more! A very different sorta tale, but definitely an enjoyable one.

this is really interesting to read. I enjoy learning about my fellow poets here. Which country are you in? (or are you just writing from the point of view of someone in a country like this?) I think in many ways, people of so called poorer countries are richer in happiness than they are in the USA.

Hi Andrea, my home country is Papua New Guinea, terribly wealthy in resources - but like everywhere else, some people are richer than others. Happiness? No comment suffices.

Very effective, this tells a lot even about the USA, we ain't broke and those who say we are broke are lying to us. I like how you break up the form into sections easily read. Coffee beans, could represent lots of other things. It is your last name that attracted me to this, Dom. I created a vampyre living in Dresden, Germany in 1945 , but the Allies bombed poor HERR DOM (his name) out of Dresden and he moved to Poitiers France and changed his name to MONSIEUR L'VAMPYRE.Lots of poetry about him.
