We are told that Franklin would have preferred The scrumptious turkey as our nations' bird Though old Ben's advice was scrapped A turkey might have been apt Since Washington's 'turkeys' are so absurd Robert L. Hinshaw, CMSgt, USAF, Retired © All Rights Reserved

A great Limerick dear poet ! And I'd like to add; Mr. Loving is part right(write) here Robert. Franklin wrote his daughter a letter, six years after the Bald Eagle was chosen...he wrote to her that; I'll be curt here...he wrote that he felt that the Eagle was a theif, stealing other birds and animals catch, and that the Turkey was native to America. He wote that; 1784, and they shared that in social studies in the schools. I don't know where the Phoenix came from. Have a great day sir !, james

How ironic Robert, Franklin, assimilated the Bald Eagle to the political rif raf of his day...still holds true to this day and age! (LOL) Later my friend !

Ah, great take on the feud among Franklin, Adams and Jefferson, Bob!! Very funny poem and sooo true. Jefferson wanted the dove, but Adams was adament about the eagle and no one could win an argument with him. He would have fit in well with today's Congress. Love, Carolyn

NOT! Franklin a free mason wanted the national bird to be the Phoenix. sometimes seen as a two headed bird. that was a myth they taught in grade school.

"Gobble, gobble, gobble;" that's what they do: gobble up everyone's money, then cry "More."
