Wangari Muta Maathai

Mother of the forest green Across a complicated boundary Of loyalties I bring you esteem for life Surging through the forest heart You are a shade The brains of it, the blood That bled from the umbilical movement Of its urge to be I heard Kilmanjaro thunder Rain was about to fall I saw the pregnant cloud Black and strong Bountiful with the juice of wind Wangari Muta Maathai, the mother Of the green revolution I saw the new morning Forbidding the rape Of a beautiful body kindling desire From the first fire Of creation The thunder broke sweat Like a river from the sky Pouring your veins Content in a movement Protecting the innocence of the trees It was a beginning That marked The end of Arap Moi footsteps Up the mountain of power O you made so Beautiful hour Your courage after the blow That's the moment I loved you The martyr for the trees.
