Waiting

I try to listen to my breathing But something has gone wrong This cannot be me that is breathing, I do not take this long. I have a mission I do not know, And yet, listen to what I speak, I hear people downstairs talking, Their voices are very weak. I cannot hear of what they say, Only the low grumble The air kicks in And their grumble is now a mumble. In, out, in, out, Trying to keep steady, Trying to see if I'm okay To see if I am ready. Everything that I have done, I've done for only me, I do not help the others, I just try to get free. Around me lives are taken, Below the laughter grows. Above is nothing but silent still Causing tingles to my toes. I try to listen to my breathing, But something has gone wrong, This cannot be me that is breathing, I do not take this long.
