Vagrant Promises
Per chance, Madame, you will be kind
Please, can you spare me, but a pence?
I wish to eat and, too, I thirst.
I must now pay my rent.
Per chance, dear sir, you will be kind
Please, can you spare me, but a shilling?
I promise not to drink it down
Nor, at the track, a killing.
Can someone please assist me now
For I’ve seen to have lost my way?
I promise, if you help me now
I’ll return the deeds someday.
