Urban Sprawl

A lone tree Used to stand proud and free In a meadow its shelter we sought But now bends its old branches in a parking lot In the bridge between city, country it got caught Its now part of the newly built mall Growth, no way to forestall Urban sprawl

i always feel sorry for those "city trees" occupying a three by five block of earth leaning into the sunlight that creeps around the buildings. Nice take on the theme Congrats. John

Very nicely done. Poignant! Having a degree in horticulure, I feel sorry to see trees surrounded by asphalt, having their roots constantly compressed by cars.

The vision of the tree in the meadow is so lovely, but then reality sets in and you convey inevitability with a visceral veracity. It is sure to do well in the contest. Please forgive the message sent to you that was for Deb. I thought sure I had it in the right box. Oh well. I tried to remove it but couldn't.
