Two Moons

'No?!' They thought Hopeless romantics! A full moon Then another? Their glow ever brighter Never receding Two moons low on the horizon One sinking The other imitating On a clear African night sky The landscape takes a strange form The mountain peaks and morphs Two moons revolve around the campfire Flaring like shooting stars Celestial twins on a merry-go-round Occasionally disappearing behind the shifting mountain Only to reappear behind a boulder One leading the way The other on its shoulder Almost racing, but never colliding Then a sudden stop They glow even brighter Closer and closer Threatening to outshine the campfire Blinding our curiosity The fire succumbs To the moons' strange weather And the roar like thunder Finally, surrounded by mist Rising A total eclipse Our minds blank Our hearts sank The two moons...
