Twas the Day Before Summer
Twas the night before summer
and all through the house
all the kids were jumping
even my spouse!
The bikes were pumped
and the lawns were mowed
the chalk was opened
to write hopscotch code.
My house was a disaster
with mud in every nook
all the shoes in disaray
not a coat on a hook
Try as I might I just
could not get my kids
to pick up anything
not even toy lids!
Then a commotion met my ear,
little Rachel had fallen down
She had tried to copy Jason
Who was being a big clown.
The crying stopped everyones
big summer rush
poor little Jason, soon his tears
started to gush.
I picked up little Rachel
I held her closely tight
I dried her little tears
and made everything right.
Amidst all the summer glee
I learned that the mess
was not that important
but to be childlike was blessed.
Twas the night before summer
and all through the house
All the kids were jumping
even my husbands spouse.
