Too Much Love Can Hurt

Caged Unable to be free Longing for liberty Dying for their individuality Aggressive parentage creates drones Deadened by the force Of parental ambition That knows no bounds And where pride is king Secrets and ambitions Are encased deeply In a psyche that aches From the push to Always improve and be Better than other kids Manners must be impeccable Grades must be exemplary Even into adulthood The grip of excessive control Shows no lessening Letting go is hard to do When your kid’s lives must Revolve around you Some pay the ultimate price And spitefully take paths They may not have wanted to Suicides Drugs The wrong crowd A dismal job All taken up to frustrates Those that must forever be The centre of another’s world

Very thought-provoking write! I watched a baby chick struggling in the egg trying to break through the shell to free itself. I was tempted to break off the shell to help the struggling chick but I did not. I had read somewhere that the chick needs to make the required effort to free itself since the struggle helps to get its vital organs like the heart and lungs functioning properly for life outside the shell. Parents can learn a valuable lesson from this. It can be an idea for your next poem.

Thanks..my inspiration can come from just a word..i built my poem INSULTS around the word contumatious....I liked the sound of the word...this poem was written on the bus to the supermarket after reading of yet another middle class kid killing themselves through use of drugs...it seemed to me as if they went beserk as soon as they away from their parents
